Doynb:answers in bold. |
Chanbaby:that is a lot of rash for a 3 weeks old. personally, i will stop everything I am using - soap, cream, oil, etc and just take him to see a doctor/paediatrician. |
realdentist:medela swing electric breast pump. i will suggest you make sure you are comfy with the whole idea of expressing before shelling out on a breast pump as these electric breast pumps aint cheap. i personally found the whole experience awkward and dumped the breast pump after using it twice. this has nothing to do with the brand of the breast pump as medela is one of the best in the market.i attended a baby shower recently and some mothers expressed the same reservation/experience with breast pumps. personally, i prefer to just feed 'nippple to mouth', use a breastfeeding cover in public and at other times, give him formula in a bottle. |
AdaBiafra:Seen. Let's continue this convo on PM. check your PM. |
Onaswu:pele dear. i have never had any experience with this. i do remember that alphahandmaiden has discussed extensively on this issue with reference to witch hazel spray, sitz baths, etc. she might be able to provide more detailed suggestion on how to relieve the pain. cc alphahandmaiden |
AdaBiafra:Amen. God bless you too. I know nothing about the cost of renting a shop in owerri. can you spend the next few days going around key locations (popular markets, busy residential areas) and find out how much it costs to rent a shop inclusive of all agency and legal fees? Your findings will determine whether or not you can afford to rent a place from the 200k and still have considerable money left to invest in the business itself. Once you make your findings, post here and quote me and I will try to respond as soon as possible. That said, the problem with renting for a startup business is that if one is not careful, it's very easy to incur huge running expenses (rent, local government taxes, security, electricity bill, generator running costs, association fees/levies,etc) which can just erode whatever profit the business is making. For a business to be successful, there must be a very good profit margin or high volume of sales or both whilst keeping expenses to the barest minimum. I already have some business ideas in mind and how you can do a small business pilot/test run some ideas before you choose the one you think is most suitable for you with the highest profit margin and then concentrate on that. |
AdaBiafra:erm. . . . to provide suitable suggestions, please do you mind answering the following questions? 1)what part of nigeria do you stay? 2)what is your educational background? 3)will you describe yourself as an introvert or extrovert? 4)how many kids have you got and what are their ages? 5)will you be able to sort out childcare arrangements during the day as this will allow you focus on your business? 6)what are your hobbies/interests? 7)are you active on social media (especially instagram, twitter and snapchat) 8 ) can you describe yourself as creative or fashionable? business is not all about buying and selling goods. you can also provide services and make cool cash. for example, organising home lessons for kids is a provision of service. operating a creche is a provision of service. there is cool cash to be made in Nigeria these days if you know how to go about it. i will give you a few examples: 1)there is a lady that charges 30,000 a month, £100 a month and $140 a month for people who want to lose weight. all she does is provide meal plan, coaching, mentoring, exercise routine, etc. these services are provided via WHATSAPP!! if you want a face to face consultation, then she charges more. this lady is based in nigeria but she has clients all over the world and she is making cool cash. her selling point? HERSELF !! she was able to lose weight and she started her business by posting 'before and after pictures' on INSTAGRAM !! from there people started contacting her, she began posting pictures of people on instagram she had successfully coached and lost weight. she is constantly advertising her services on instagram during her FREE instagram account. now just imagine if she has 5 subscribers a month to her weight loss plan. ignore her rates in pounds and dollars. that's a cool 150,000 NAIRA!! meanwhile, a 'new class' starts every week. so just imagine if she has just 2 customers a week. 2)i found my current tailor from a picture posted by bellanaija on INSTAGRAM. the last time she sewed for me, she charged me 20k for skirt and blouse (express service sha). for non-express service she charges nothing less than 10k and trust me she has got lots of customers. you know the funny thing, SHE DOES NOT SEW!!! all she does is sketch a design (or just shows the customer a previously sketched design) and then she passes it on to the girls she recruited to sew for her (she has got a shop). she also supervises them to make sure the dress is sewn properly.once a client wears one of designs, she uploads a picture and quickly tags bellanaija. if she is lucky, bellanaija reposts it. 3)you find people on social media selling bowls of assorted stew, soups, jollof rice, etc. i stumbled on one recently that advertises fried snails, panla, fried offals, etc which she packages and ships to clients in Nigeria and all around the world. starting a business is not always easy. however, if you are good at what you do, versatile and consistent, the business will succeed. |
babythug:hahaha. e se pupo ma. i brought lots of toblerone ![]() |
realsupermum:he will be fine. don't worry. the fact the he walks around whilst holding on to objects is a very positive sign. i really doubt if a baby walker will be of any use at this stage. a 16months old a toddler is keen on exploring and will cry/refuse to stay in the baby walker. what is his diet like? does he take full cream milk at least once a day? if not, introduce full cream milk into his diet. for example, if he takes cereal, be very generous with the quantity of nido or peak milk. you can also prepare a cup of milk and see if he drinks it. if he doesn't, you can sweeten it a bit with honey. even though he is past 12 months, he needs milk because of all the calcium that's found in milk. calcium is essential for strong bones. also look out for/introduce calcium fortified cereals and add fish to his diet. baby yoghurt, vegetables such as broccoli and green peas are also very good sources of calcium. i will also suggest you introduce a vitamin D supplement as vitamin D helps in the proper absorption of calcium. if you are already giving him multivitamin syrup, then there is no need for an extra Vitamin D supplement as the multivitamin syrup should also contain vitamin D (please check the label). if he is not on a daily multivitamin, then you should consider introducing one. 'wellbaby' by vitabiotics is a very good brand. finally, you need to build his confidence. support him while walking. encourage him to stand unsupported for long period and give a big 'yayyyy', clap and cheer him every single thing he stands unsupported (even if its 2 seconds). try not to appear stressed or upset when he wobbles and falls. instead, lift him up, give him a hug, cheer him and then practice the walk again. you can also hold on to a snack and toy and encourage him to come towards you (while cheering him on) to get it. |
valeriechima:you should have introduced bottle feeding few weeks before you resumed at work as it takes some babies time to adjust to a new meal. does he take breast milk direct from the nippple or is he rejecting that as well? if he is, then you might need to take him to the hospital to rule out tonsillitis or any infection. once a baby experiences any discomfort swallowing, they usually reject all meals. if he still breast feeds happily, then you just have to keep trying/experimenting with other meals till he accepts them. for example, you can get someone else to feed him. you can also try more nutritional and better tasting meals like pureed sweet/Irish potatoes mixed with chicken, mixed vegetables like carrots, green peas, etc and see if he accepts. |
Chanbaby:sounds like heat rash. try not to overdress your baby. no need for multiple layer of clothing, thick shawl, woollen hat, etc especially if you live in Nigeria. overdressing a baby encourages breakout of rashes and they are sometimes hard to treat/stop when they start. reduce the various layers of dressing, use a very light shawl to cover her when indoors (or none at all) and apply baby tribotan on the affected areas. it should clear in a week or there about. if you stick to the above and the rashes continue to appear, then you might have to stop the coconut oil and get something else. |
sugah:is it very runny poo ? it must be his diet. stop all pureed FRUITS totally (including fruits combo such as baby rice and apple) and see if there is any improvement. if you notice any improvement, then gradually reintroduce fruits back to his diet but be mindful of the quantity. eg. one slice of apple a day or 3 small slices of banana a day. |
jazzyjazz:i have realised that different doctors/nurses/health visitors give different advice regarding administering paracetamol before immunisation. i guess this is because different hospitals have different vaccine schedule. for mine, paracetamol is a MUST and the vaccines will NOT be administered without confirming that the baby has been given paracetamol and what time/dosage. my son had 5-in-1 vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b) ,Pneumococcal vaccine, Rotavirus vaccine and Men B vaccine at 8 weeks. in a nutshell, if you have been told to give your baby PCM before her vaccination, please do. Fever as a side effect of vaccines can be very stressful for both mum and baby. |
Jazzyjazz Formula feeding and warm water are like 5 and 6. Once you introduce formula, the general advice is to introduce water to prevent constipation. Give water at regular intervals. For example, if your baby has 6 bottles of formula a day, you can give 2 or 3 bottles of water (small sips totalling 10-20ml per feed). As your baby grows older, you can increase the quantity and frequency. Water should never be used as a meal replacement. That is, substituting formula for water when baby is actually hungry. |
Olubankemi Honey for children aged under 12months is a complete NO NO. honey has been known to cause botulism - a condition that kills. I bought a jar of natural honey recently and it was clearly stated that it should not be given to children under 12 months. A mum has shared on this thread how she lost her baby to botulism. Sugar too is a no no at this stage. Not every baby likes pap. There are several other much healthier meals you can feed your baby. This topic has been discussed extensively on this thread and several receipes have been shared. |
Hotmomma Choiiiii. No vex. Love letter loading. ![]() |
Danzak How's your baby? any improvement? I hope he's much better. God will perfect his healing in Jesus name. Amen. I hope you applied the temporal ban to pap too. That might also be the problem. if there's something wrong with the pap, his immune system might be struggling with it now even though he took it well previously. Check my previous posts and that of alphahandmaiden (she also created a blog) for cheap, healthy, nutrient filled, home made meals that actually aid in brain development that you can feed your baby. |
jazzyjazz:1. He's normal. He's just trying to adjust to the bed/sleeping position. Check the bed/cot/bedsheet and make sure it's comfortable for him. 2. People say one breast is always bigger than the other. I do not think there's anything you can do to make them even. As long as they are both producing milk (sometimes one breast produces more than the other),there's really nothing to worry about. |
ginababy:No need for anti malaria drugs for a baby. Instead be proactive and ensure he's safe from mosquito bites. I have never been told to discard paracetamol. That advice only applies to antibiotics. I keep mine in the fridge. Same applies to cough syrup, neurofen, etc. I just keep an eye on the expiry date and check each time before I administer. A mum must always have paracetamol and neurofen at home in case of any unexpected fever. So I can't imagine throwing a whole bottle away every time I administer the odd two doses of 5ml. |
Gosh. It's ALTAR not alter. |
samsilo:Yes. You are right. It's very clear in the sex offenders legislature. Sharing for whatsoever reason (good or bad intention) is a criminal offence and a criminal conviction is 100 percent guaranteed. |
oyb:Most people are naive and do not know that mere sharing such videos even if your heart is clean is a criminal offence. Not only will the person get jail time but the person is made to sign the sex offenders register. A UK nurse got nailed for the offence recently. Even the judge agreed that she was no way a peadophile, he still went ahead and sentenced her "for showing the images to work colleagues and sharing". Such videos if received accidentally such be deleted. If possible, report whoever is sharing such video or if you are sure they are naive, let them know the crime they are committing. Also reminds me of a case where a Shell UK employee sent indecent images of children to his work printer. Apparently he had been working remotely, sent the pictures to a printer only for them to be picked up by an unknown colleague at the office printer. She reported to her superiors, the images were traced to the guy and the police were called. |
DANZAK:Okay. Since hygiene is top notch and you've been to different hospitals then it's time for some root cause analysis. I can only think of his diet/food. I think you should stop the pap totally for now and also stop the current cereal he eating and try another brand. That might be the problem. |
prestige2013:ARM market fund - I remember correctly, minimum amount is 1,000 or 5,000 naira. Please check their website for a copy of their prospectus. No minimum tenor. However, there is a small penalty if you cash out within 30 days of your investment. Treasury bills - 90days, 180 days or 365 days. Minimum investment varies from bank to bank. Averagely it's around 100,000 naira. |
DANZAK:Take him to another hospital ASAP and request to see a pediatrician. That said, is he bottle fed or breast fed or both? Has he started solids? The problem might be with his drinking water/water used in preparing his meals. Switch to nestle water at least till he fully recovers (make sure you boil it) and ensure all his feeding utensils are properly washed and sterilised after each use. Teething is not responsible for stooling (over 7 days). There is an underlying condition that should be treated. In future you can try home made "sugar and salt" solution. Based on my experience (I tried this when my son was 8months old), this method is most effective if the cause of the stooling is down to diet (for example, child has had too much fruits and veg) and it should be used on the very first day (say by the 4th stool). Boil about 50ml of water. Leave to cool (till it's about lukewarm). Add one tea spoon of salt and one and a half tea spoon of sugar. Mix together and taste it (it shouldn't be too salty or too sweet). Pour the mixture in a feeding bottle and give the child to drink. Get the child to drink at least 10-20ml and you can give the child little sips to drink later in the day. If after giving the child this solution and the child stools again, please go to the hospital. Stooling in children should never be taken lightly. I won't even wait till the next day as my threshold is 5 poos. Luckily, the salt and sugar mix has always worked for me after the 4th poo. |
Cation:I agree. The ARM money market fund makes a whole lot of sense. What I like the most is its flexibility. Minimum investment if I remember correctly is 1k. This means I can put into the fund any spare cash I have (the odd 50k here, 200k there, etc) knowing fully well it would yield interest and I do not have to wait for an auction date or "make a bid" as it is the case with treasury bills. As with treasury bills, you can also select the option of reinvesting any accured interest. I can also withdraw the funds anytime I want and withdraw any amount I want. Usually takes them 48hours to action any request. |
Hotmomma. I will send you a PM. ![]() |
bussy2rhymes:I remember you raised this issue some few weeks ago. You've tried sebamed soap, two rounds of antibiotics, hygiene is top notch and you use a disinfectant - yet the boils keeps reoccurring. I think the culprit is shea butter. It's either the shea butter is adulterated (trust me, there are too many adulterated versions in the market) or his skin is reacting to it. Stop using shea butter and go for another body lotion. You can try original coconut oil (cold pressed), original olive oil (not Goya oil and the likes) or good ol' Vaseline (blue seal). |
hotmomma:Please stay away from sniper. It is a highly toxic pesticide that has actually been banned in many countries and it's such a shame that it's been sold and used so brazenly in nigeria. A thread on this sniper issue was created a few years ago and a lot of people shared their terrible experience from the use of this chemical. It should not be used indoors or inhaled by an adult how much more a baby. This is the link for the thread: https://www.nairaland.com/1318973/how-safe-sniper-go-90 You can read more about it's associated dangers on wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichlorvos There are ways to proactively prevent yourself and your baby from mosquito bites. I will share my approach later this week. Finally, mosquitoes can never be totally eradicated. It's just what we have to live with - thanks to the hot climate, poor drainage system, etc.

wittyt98:Word !!!! ![]() Talk about wife material 100 yards. ![]() An excellent way to bond, unwind and relax with hubby. |
this has nothing to do with the brand of the breast pump as medela is one of the best in the market.
?

my DS is now on pureed solids. Initially we battled with constipation but now he poos easily.....But the quantity of poo that comes out from such a tiny body is worrisome

. What do I do. Is there anything i can rub on him to prevent mosquito bites? Abeg mamas put mouth oh...
