Nigeria has evacuated all its diplomats from the Ivory Coast and will bring out its other citizens there after its embassy was attacked, the government said on Tuesday. Skip related content Ivory Coast is locked in a dispute after incumbent Laurent Gbagbo claimed victory in the presidential election on November 28 which the outside world says was won by rival Alassane Ouattara. "We had to evacuate all our diplomats because our embassy in Cote d'Ivoire was attacked," Nigerian Foreign Minister Odein Ajumogobia told reporters. "Arrangements are also being made to evacuate Nigerian citizens in that country." Ajumogobia did not say when the attack on the embassy took place or who carried it out. Pro-Gbagbo security forces used live rounds last Thursday to put down street protests by Ouattara supporters but Gbagbo's government has denied using excessive force. Election commission results showed Ouattara won by about 8 percentage points. Gbagbo has claimed victory and is backed by the Constitutional Council, headed by an ally. The Council erased nearly half a million Ouattara votes, alleging fraud. The United Nations, France, the United States, the European Union, the African Union and West African regional bloc ECOWAS have urged Gbagbo to admit defeat and step down. ECOWAS heads of state are due to meet on Friday in the Nigerian capital Abuja to discuss developments in Ivory Coast. Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenikesays he is considering whether or not to play for the Super Eagles. The 23-year-old who plays for Turkish side Karabükspor, has also been approached to play for Turkey. Emenike holds a grudge against the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, after he claims his transfer from South Africa to Turkey was almost scuttled. But his rising profile has caught the attention of new Eagles' coach Samson Siasia who is set to meet the player next week. "Obviously I am aware of the coach's planned visit to Turkey and I look forward to meeting him here." Emenike told BBC Sport. "He [Siasia] has been in touch about the meeting but what was discussed stays between us," he added. Relatively unknown back home, Emenike starred in South Africa for Mpumalanga Black Aces FC and FC Cape Town, before joining Kardemir Karabükspor in the Turkish second division last year. On the back of his 16-goals last season, Karabükspor won promotion to the top flight and his 12 goals in 16 matches this season have triggered interest in the player from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF). "A few of months ago the owner of Karabükspor came to me and asked if I would like to play for Turkey because the federation [TFF] wants me to. "It was an offer too good to refuse because such things only happen once in a lifetime," Emenike continued. Emenike says the NFF held back his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) clearance for six months until football's world governing body Fifa, came to his rescue. "It was when I was with Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa, the club reached out to the NFF but for six months they left my career at a crossroad," the striker lamented. "My life and career was left hanging but Fifa gave me a clearance when the club almost gave up on me and thank God a loan to FC Cape Town led to my transfer to Turkey. "Playing for Nigeria has not crossed my mind after what I went through in the hands of the NFF," Emenike added. Despite his resentment towards the NFF Emenike gave a strong hint that Samson Siasia may be a factor in his decision. "That was three years ago and so much has happened between then and now. I have put the past behind me, I was upset then and I think that was a reasonable reaction," he went on. "I still have a lot of years ahead of me in the game but the scheduled meeting with the coach sounds interesting and promising. "Siasia was a big football name when I was young and to meet him as the coach of the national team will be amazing but I will wait and see what comes out of meeting," Emenike conluded. Nigeria are desperate for a prolific goal scorer and the local media has continued to suggest the names of Emmanuel Emenike and Denmark based Peter Utaka. Bookmark |

Another top rating has emerged in favour of John Mikel Obi (The Catalyst), as the youngster’s crisp passes with Chelsea of England have shot him well ahead of some of the English Premier League’s best midfielder’s in terms of knocking the ball round during key matches. Although many Nigerians often disparage what they call short and escapist passes from the former Lyn Oslo of Norway star, latest data from England put him ahead of Michael Essien, Steven Gerrard and other top rated stars in terms of keeping possession for his team. The report from England states further that Mikel is proving himself the best passer of the ball in England, which also puts him ahead of Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas and Aleixandre Song as well as Manchester United’s Paul Scholes. According to the Opta statistics, Mikel has delivered more successful passes than all others in the EPL, with 587 points tagged to his name, while Essien has 565, Scholes 537, Song 462 and Gerrard 434. http://www.brila-fm.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4806%3Amikel-dusts-essien-song-gerrard&catid=1%3Alatest-news&Itemid=76 |
Pls let's make this clear: Judging which among Awo, Zik and Sardauna as regional premiers achieved most for his people is clearly different from 'Awo has no equal'. If what you said was the thrust of the argument, no Igbo man would claim that Zik did more for the Igbos than Awo or Bello. The reason why Igbos don't venerate Zik like the Yorubas and Hausas venerate Awo and Bello is that while the other two made it clear that they were out to take care of the interest of their people, Zik was more concerned about Nigeria and Africa. Example: When Zik founded Nigeria's first indigenous university, he called it University of Nigeria, Nsukka. When Awo founded his, he called it University of Ife, while Sardauna called his University of Zaria. Zik founded a bank and called it African Continental Bank. Zik founded a neswpaper and called it the West African Pilot. He founded a party and called it NCNC -National Congress of Nigerian Citizens - at a time some others named theirs after their regions, etc Igbos don't see Zik as an Igbo leader. They see him as a Nigerian leader. The people they see as Igbo leaders are Ojukwu, M.I. Okpara. Hausas don't see Balewa as Hausa leader; their eternal leader was/is Sir Ahmadu Bello (Sardauna of Sokoto).
VERY GOOD. |
@ Onlytruth I tot Nnamdi made sure the Igbo held on well @ the central govt. during his time as . He made sure they were heads of federal govt. agencies. I think Zik was concerned about the personal development of the Igboman while Michael Okpara was all about the infrastructural development of the eastern region. Zik cant be a and a premier of the east same time. I need some clarifications on his role @ the center from U. |
this is serious. the girl is somewhat pretty, but i think contestants might have to start representing tribes instead of states. either that or a new competition is needed, since it seems some parts of nigeria have totally abandoned mbgn. whatever happened to the old miss nigeria pageant organized by daily times? even the new miss usa is lebanese, just to show how donald trump organizes this thing.
Nobody has abandoned the mgbn. If U feel u have what it takes to be a beauty queen, nothing stops u from contesting. THE AMAKA:My mom's family is gonna be represented as a tribe. |
