You cant group all yorubas together because they arent like easterners who are ALL christian, and hausas who are ALL muslims.

I do not think it was an Igbo coup; I don't think that Igbo people sat around and discussed how to get rid of Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba leaders. Having said that there are several points that must be taken into consideration which might have led certain people to conclude that it was an Igbo coup

1. The composition of the plotters
2. The victims
3. The absence of Zik even when there was a commonwealth conference in Nigeria that January
4. The unconstitutional manner Nwafor Orizu (an Igbo man) handed over power to Ironsi (another Igbo) for the purposes of suppressing the coup even when it was apparent that the coup had failed. Also when you consider that Ironsi did not need to be head of state to suppress the coup. Some argue that this was to prevent another Northerner Dip Charima from being prime minister.
5. The unconfirmed issue of Ifeajuna (the leader of the coup) being a cousin of Azikiwe (who had lost out in a power play to Balewa in 1964)
6. I believe that Nzeogwu and Ademoyega took part for ideological reasons. I also believe that Ifeajuna and other coupists were motivated by ethnic reasons.

This is just my analysis. I am only stating my own opinion. I don't have time to expend further; I will be engaged for the next few hours. Feel free to point out errors without insults and name-calling.
