Opiosko: Actually, it's the church of Rome that corrupted christainity. Todays Roman catholic church is an image worshipping cult masqurading as a church. Catholics are not christains. Period.

my own bible tells me that ,the earth is the lord's and it's fulness there of and all powers belong to God.
yeah! heaven and earth belong to God but devil rule this world now, God allows him due to the sin of man, He wants to know his own before he finally destroy satan.

Scyllapatron: remember the olden days christianity, it was about missionaries, salvation, love, giving, helping the poor, repentance, forgiveness, etc..
today it's by fire by fire, thunder fire my enemy, holy ghost fire my neighbor, let my enemy die, bind the spirit of ancestor, bla bla bla!!!!
madness!!!
exactly, by cursing and binding, they are causing more harm to the society, christian=christ-like, He preached love, caring, forgiveness, giving, repentance, et al and when He was about to die on the cross He said 'its finish'. But today what do we have, prosperity preaching, tight preaching, church business, dressing provocatively to church, ladies wearing fitted trouser and tops to church, prophesying to politician that he will win this coming election when me n you know him go rig himself into power. e.g this happened in edo state, why? all in the name of seed and tight and mingling with politicians who are blood suckers. I keep saying this, pentecostals brought worldly life to church. Its good that churches are in all corner in nigeria but were is the effect, things are getting worse, crimes, baby factory, boko haram, assassin, looting, et al (business minded pastors everywhere) anybody that can speak in tongue, quote genesis to revelation automatically claiming pastor tag, what happened to making outreach to people, evangelize from houses to houses, nation to nation, must you own a church, God doesnt call this people to be pastor again, they now call HIM. church is now family business, when the husband dies the wife or first son takes over instead of one the elder/assistant pastor...okay.

candidbabe: well said,
I am with you bro.
I wonder why some people think that a man like them is all knowing.
he can only see what God allowed him to see.
God can even reveal some secrets to him but ,will instruct him not to let it out to people.
or it may be that God wants to use this to test his faith.
for those that asked on the previous thread that why did God allow those people to die, the answer is God giveth and he taketh, he is the owner of our lives.
he can allow the whole world to be consumed in a twinkle of an eye and you can't question him.
that is why he is the ALMIGHTY.
God doesnt taketh mr man, read your bible very well, its the devil that rule this world but those that believe in HIM will be saved in the last day.

red101: what do you do on valentine's day? you SHOP flowers, candy etc.on christmas, you SHOP, on thanksgiving, you SHOP. someone needs to manufacture those products in order to buy them. "religious" holidays like christmas in western countries are for SHOPPING. they don't represent anything spiritual anymore. Many western people are secular and no longer religious. those holidays have transformed to being focused on consumption. it is a culture of consumption based on capitalism. hence why economic development is related to culture.

stop talking about natural occurence as if chistmas is a natural occurence like earthquake or rain. it is MAN-MADE and it is always changing. christmas 100 yrs ago is VERY different from christmas today. In fact, jesus wasn't born on christmas day over 2000 yrs ago. it used to be a pagan holiday and the romans adapted it to chrstianity hence paganism also influenced the western christian culture. ALL CULTURES BORROW from others.
even the idea of "whites" is a recent development. categorizing people based on color is something that is a result of cultural change as a result of colonization, immigration etc.

educate yourself pls. I am losing my patience here grin
so you posted my photo because of this dabate angry

red101: where do you see open clothes? do those women look like they are dancing traditional chinese music or westernized music.
what is your definition of culture? you are the one who mentioned "atilongun" or whatever you called it.
Chinese people aren't living in the past. they are very westernized. very plain and simple.
you clearly don't even know what you are talking about. and can't define what culture means.

atilogun involves traditional dressing, drums and music. does your profile pic represent that kind of culture? no.
don't be a hypocrite. your westernized profile pic says it all.
when you change your profile pic to one where you are dancing atilogun like this then I will listen to you tongue

so you expect me to be wearing atilogun dress everywhere when its not time for it, you ehn! I suppose check you grin.
atilogun is a cultural dance in africa/nigeria that requires those dressing costume, so you think those guys in the picture you posted wears those costume everywhere they go, there is a season/time for it, na everyday be church service for ur area.

Chinese people aren't living in the past. they are very westernized. very plain and simple.
move forward or go back to primitive past. choose for yourself.

you clearly don't even know what you are talking about. and can't define what culture means.
ok let me give you example, during JESUS time there was nothing like cars, good clothes, et al now people use cars to go to church, since there is car why didnt people abolish christianity, so you see what op is referring to is different from what you are talking about(devlopment/advancement).What i am trying to correct you of is that Development/advancement makes culture easier, it shouldnt abolish it like you want it.

who is referring to wearing of open clothes here huh, read what op is talking about again, op talks about valentine, christmas, et al now all these are natural occurrence which white people hold on to that doesnt stop them from manufacturing cars, clothes, et al.
Culture › Re: What Has Been The Effect Of Culturing Borrowing On Nigerian Culture? by hensben(m): 8:54am On Sep 17, 2014
red101: you don't know what the definition of culture is.
you think culture is all about "traditional" dancing.

culture is education, food, music, cars, buildings, language, greetings, government, economy (socialism, capitalism etc), religion (islam, christianity etc), technology, media etc etc. everything related to how human beings live their lives. not just stuff you read in history or see in museums. that is extinct culture.

the reason our culture is changing is because we are developing. the opposite of development is regression isn't it? if our culture didn't change, will will probably all still be living in mud huts in primitive societies.

the chinese govt has made it a law for all chinese children to learn english. if you listen to chinese youth music, you will find that it is very westernized. etc google "c-pop" to see what their music looks like.

most people will copy the culture that is the most developed. and so far, western culture is the most developed. hence why you have a picture of yourself posing by a bmw in western clothes etc. If Asia becomes more successful than the west, we will also start copying asia. development and culture are very related.

remember culture is a way of life. and most people want to live a convenient life so they will always choose a culture that gives them a convenient or better life. ex. learning english to get a good job and better life vs native language that will not get you anywhere.
op wasnt talking about all these things you are mentioning now, read his/her post again. you are just diverting culture/tradition to development or advancement.
Culture › Re: What Has Been The Effect Of Culturing Borrowing On Nigerian Culture? by hensben(m): 8:36am On Sep 17, 2014
red101: I don't even know whether to respond to you because you seem completely ignorant of the subject matter.
is a BMW a traditional drum? does it look like you are about to dance in the pic or about to drive?
western clothes. who made those clothes? aren't jobs and careers a way of life? do you spend your day weaving traditional clothes and farming or working in the office?

china has one of the most rapidly westernizing culture in the entire world. Why do you think it is developing so fast and becoming more developed? Have you ever been to China to see how rapidly it is changing?
"Over the last two decades, the Peoples Republic of China has been rapidly adopting western technology and culture in everyday life. This can be seen in their wide acceptance of everything from cell phones to American television shows and fast food. McDonald's has already established 560 of their restaurants in China and soon will be adding 100 more. KFC fried chicken franchises have been even more popular. There are 1000 KFC outlets throughout the country with more than 100 in Beijing alone. Taco Bell, A & W, and Pizza Hut are not far behind. In 2003, the Chinese government made the decision to require all children in their country, beginning with the 3rd grade of elementary school, to learn English. This will very likely accelerate westernization. "
http://anthro.palomar.edu/change/change_1.htm
you are not still getting it, you are mistaking development of a country to culture. Now, my 2nd post was referring to chinese been developed and industrialize yet they still hold on to their culture(culture is a natural thing that occur centuries ago)..well, have a nice day.
Culture › Re: What Has Been The Effect Of Culturing Borrowing On Nigerian Culture? by hensben(m): 8:12am On Sep 17, 2014
red101: look at your profile pic and tell me you're not a hypocrite. A lot of the people on this thread are hypocrites. if you condemn borrowing of culture yet you want a BMW, wear western clothes and want good modern roads.

you are not still making sense, how does culture(way of life in other word, our nature) concerns using material things, all these things you mentioned are secondary aspect of life, how does dancing atilongun and other dance relate to owning bmw, wearing western clothes. chinese that stick to their culture are they not using what you mentioned above huh, its like you didnt get my message...If white men should disown their culture(way of life) like you are insisting now will you see it to copy from?

If africans/nigerians can put things in place, basic amenities from the government, this idea of running from one miracle centre to another will stop rather you pray privately in ur house.

God answers prayer from anybody as far as you believe in Him and do what you are suppose to do in life to cause positive change.

red101: this topic is pointless because ALL cultures borrow. That's how cultures survive. whether in Africa, or Europe or Asia or anywhere. you borrow and then you put your own twist on it.

we will complain till kindgom come but that's the way it is. we should learn to accept change because change is inevitable. older people will always complain about the younger generation and how the culture has changed. the younger folk will grow up and complain about the next generation. and on and on and on....without realizing that a stagnant culture is on its way to extinction. it is change that keeps a culture alive.
your statement is null and void, and also, consist of myopic view ma...thanks

bro u are right but I know people here will oppose ur statement. The issue is that our way of life(culture) looks untidy n dirty in our eyes while everything about western world look neat, tidy and attractive which make it civilize so we easily accept them even when we don't know how they came about but the truth is that everything about white look clean e.g their country(environment).
Everything about us now look primitive in our eyes, I have seen somebody who doesn't eat eba/pounded yam n soup in fast food cos he is ashame.
