All these Oyedepo agents spreading false stories on Nairaland. |
See desperados, this is what you term as worst governors in Nigeria, you guys had better concentrate on your states going down the drain. |
@Pukkah Work no gree me respond all this while, what I am saying is that resources should be distributed in a fair way that does not reward indolence, I am not particular about oil, the money could come from taxes, it could come from anything, let the FG keep say 25% and the remaining 75% be shared to states that are poor, of course, there should be benchmark, if you do not meet these benchmarks, you lose your status, what will really solve most of these problems will be true federalism, but, you will get better sharing of the resources before you get true federalism. Nigerian governments are rent seekers, the lot of them, I actually think the Northerners should be fighting for true fiscal federalism, they stand to benefit, the SS will be worst hit, once their oil is finished, c'est finis be that. |
Ehen, did not know you guys had previous, oya carry go. |
@Eko Ile Take it easy my man, we can all yab ourselves, he was just playing with you, no need to get defensive, I am one of Fashola's supporter here and I think he has tortoise head as well, we can all yank our chains here. |
The idea will not see the light of day in the house neither will the navy be happy about it, expect it to be quashed, if not, expect the navy to go on bombing exercises for the fun of it. |
@bashr Being involved is different from shutting down regions, of course as many leaders of other regions that can be involved the better, shutting down is just my gripe. |
Weting concern Agbero with overload, most of the SS states do not have Igbos there, the Igbos form a minority and some of them do not look back on the war too fondly. |
I believe the people of that zone will beg to differ, also, the governors of those states might be disinclined to declare a public holiday on that particular day, celebration of your leader should be done voluntarily rather than by coercion. |
He can close down the SE, what concerns him with closing down the SS, the guy should not go beyond his limit. |
Hope this is true and if it is, some squeaky bum time for the sponsors, the guy should be well guarded o. |
@Pukkah Maybe Sanusi sees the Nigerian state as an egalitarian one where resources should be shared equally, I personally do not agree that resources should be shared evenly, I do believe however that the areas that are having BH insurgence can point to economic factors as one of the reasons (even if the little they have is judiciously used), this boils down to lack of resources to cater to the needs of the people, ideally, resources should be shared equally, realistically, the guys on whose land (note land) the resources are should have a greater share, that is only fair. My grouse is with the FG taking 56% of the bloody money, how have they impacted on the lives of people at the local level? States should be given more, especially those struggling, the greatest parasite is the FG. |
@AK He is making sense now abi, if you want to see where he slammed his people just ask Jarus for more or google is your friend. I disagree with him on Yoruba being the problem, but, I understand where he is coming from. |
@Ak Wetin be this one nau? |
This was written a long time ago, he also castigated his tribe and others, why are you guys always bringing out stuff like this, when the yoruba internet warriors tackle you guys now, you will be shouting. |
@Pukkah I can almost swear that it was OBJ that gave them that contract, anyway, I must have mixed things up, with Yar Adua being comatose. |
@Pukkah The road was concessioned during OBJ's time, it is over 5 years, and it will cost over 1.5billion naira per kilometer to build. |
@paddy_lo We are not in a federal structure, it is a unitary one, that is the wahala with this democracy, the khaki boys got some guys together to amend abacha's decrees and made it a constitution of the people, until we sit down to agree on a constitution of the people, we are still practizing unitary sysem. Sanusi is actually talking about resource allocation, it might be from oil today, tomorrow it might be from tax, it will be foolish of Sanusi to say that uneven allocations is the only reason for Boko Haram, there are other factors as well, but we should not now say he is wrong for saying it, the aboki man can work harder but when he tries to shake off the yoke of bad leadership he meets his waterloo at the elections. We are all Nigerians and we are meant to look out for ourselves, why is the SW preaching regional integration? why are the SE states thinking of integrating their economies, nobody does it alone, there should be diffusion of resources, heck even if the SE people get their biafra or the SW their Odua republic, they will need to push some resources to their poor neighbors in order that social disorder does not become the order of the day in their countries. When oil runs out, the SS will be the least prepared for it, as things stand, all of their lives revolve round the oil, the North with prudent leadership might just be able to feed itself, but, we do know that it takes time for these things to manifest (e.g a revamp of education in Nigeria will need at least 16 years to manifest) and they might not even get the prudent leaders. You are comparing Northern Nigeria to countries who have had excellent leadership for centuries, haba, even southern Nigeria with all its intellectual wealth can not be compared to some countries in africa, israel by the way can not survive without aid from the US. |
@Pukkah You are being civil, so I should answer in like manner (take back the sanusi hater thing though some guys on this thread are), he is saying that imbalance in resources allocation could be one of the reasons for boko haram, of course his position is based on the fact that even if all of the allocated amount were to be used by the states for the benefit of their citizens, it will still not be enough to take care of the citizens, leaving some people open to being used for nefarious activities such as Boko haram, in his statement, the indictment of the governors of these states is implied and he has actually written before on their wastefulness (every dog and its manager knows northern governors are totally corrupt as are most governors sha), one thing we need to ask ourselves is how do we allocate resources evenly (taking into consideration we are dealing with people) and yet do not reward indolence on the part of the state governments, one of the things that should be done is to reduce what is given to the FG to say 35% and spread the remaining 21% to the states and LG, the spreading of this might be based on laid down objectives, you know, like they used to do during the cold war between the US and Soviet union, also, fight corruption with all that we have, let us also be frank with ourselves, some areas in the North are just not viable and will always need a big brother, be it Federal or other states. @Paddy_lo As long as we are one Nigeria, the oil does not belong to a particular area, that is what you get in the system we are in (let Jonah call for an SNC), the north is not a parasite, the leaders are, the north consists of hardworking individuals who have found themselves with leaders that can best be described as maggots, those abokis work hard and it is uncharitable to call them parasites (can all southerners be called kidnappers and prostitutes?) |
Congregation of Sanusi haters, you guys need to form an association sha o, what the guy said made sense, it might not be the most prudent thing to say but it makes sense. I hope none of you guys are lawyers, else, the opposition is in trouble, I am also sure there is a thread somewhere that dealt with this. |
They are allowed to protest, they should just make it peaceful and should not obstruct traffic, I will suggest to the leader to engage the state government in dialogue with a view to reducing the tolls, it will be a win win situation for the two parties, the protest leader would have brought some succor to the people living in that area, the government will be seen to be listening to the people and democracy will have been strengthened, they should not back themselves into a corner where it is winner take all. |
The guy should go and sit down jare, he should be fighting for reduction in the tolls not total cancellation. |
@DK I was in Bauchi town, lived at Armored Corp Center (a friend was given a room there), was posted to the polytechnic (the one before you enter bauchi from jos), fashied the posting and just taught university students computer studies at a school beside the secretariat, the Chief Inspector showed me pepper (one edo man like this). Travelled to Azare to fix a computer system, come and see corpers befriending ashewo as gir friends. |
@nagoma Just stop it, al mustapha is not the only one jailed, Bola Ige's murder will be avenged, and the killers brought to book, Ige's wife died from the injustice meted out, this should even be reason for you to support the execution of a man like mustapha who is a convicted murderer. |
Though I served in bauchi in 1999, I was never into all these runs (DK and Rhino), our Igbo brothers are just raising false alarm. |
@all those asking that he should be freed, if he had killed your family members nko? Zakari biu allowed a murderer to escape people were lynching him online, now a murderer has been convicted you people are saying he should be freed, the guy was the one that delayed the trial, he was playing gimmicks, using legal instruments to frustrate the trial, also GEJ has nothing to do with this as this crime was committed in Lagos state, he had better hoped that Fashola is being lenient, he needs to make amends with the families of those killed. @Nagoma, who is Bola Ige's killer, was it not the police that bungled that case, if the killer is found today he will be killed instantly, afterall the co accused with mustapha is a yoruba man. |
Next time, he would have taken a loan with that house as the guarantee, if he defaults, the house will be taken over, people need to learn to do things with wisdom. |
@manny Of course I responded to your reply to alj about earnings, maybe I should have quoted that bit (not good on this quote thing) when I responded with the statement that foreign earnings might be majorly from oil but VAT also contributed, you also agreed with alj that the north contributes 70% of agric GDP, 70% of 47% is already 1/3rd of GDP, are you saying they do not contribute in other areas? |
@Manny You brought foreign exports and earnings in, I have been talking about GDP, I even mentioned somewhere oil makes up bulk of our foreign earnings but it is not the bulk of our GDP, we are talking GDP, agriculture is the biggest and the bulk of it is from the North, that is what my argument is all about, do not twist my words please. Oil is just about 17% of GDP. If you want to talk about budgets, you can open another thread on that, the argument I have had with ekt is about agriculture, percentage to GDP and percentage of that from the north. |
@ekt http://www.fews.net/livelihood/ng/Zone.pdf shows all the food crops grown in the northern part of the country. |
