@rman You are listing Federal roads, do you expect Aregbe to be repairing those roads, please tell FERMA to wake up to their responsibility, by the way the roads you listed are just two, the road goes from Ibadan to Ilesha via Gbongan and branches off to Oshogbo at Gbongan and from Ibadan to Oshogbo via Iwo, why have you broken two roads down to almost 9 roads. |
@tpia, Fulanis invaded Yorubaland a long time ago ( I know you are insinuating that I am a fulani), @Negro, I might have got the word civilization wrong, I am talking about learning from others, I am not aware our "technologies" were as advanced as those of the Arabs (17th to 19th century). |
@Kilode Maybe civilization was a harsh word, more like they had access to things we were not privy to, the discussion has been nice. @Negro, you do know that the Arabs at that point in time were quite ahead of us, it follows that people who are exposed to the arabs early enough will be ahead of those who were still warring within themselves, I should say this relates to Oyo and the Ekiti people more, the Egbas, Ekos and Ijebus might have had early exposure to portuguese sha, I am not demeaning our tribe, we were organised, very organised, but, we learnt a lot from the fulanis, can not say its the same in reverse. |
Seems I am in a minority here, can we have records of when the europeans came and when we had contact with the fulani and Arabs. Anyway that is my opinion sha, its been a nice and cultured debate. |
@all They had access to Arabian civilization, we (yoruba interior) did not, I am talking of the fulanis not the hausas o, we do not need to deny this now and it was not even meant to be in a negative light, it is a testament to our fore fathers that before the end of their time, they were able to relate as equals. |
@Negro We are talking about 17th - 19th Century Yoruba, we learnt a lot from them, we were not inferior but they were more enlightened. |
@Ufe You people should have chilled now, you distracted us from our main aim, we could have given you free hand to plunder the yorubas in Kogi . |
@Kats and Kilode The interior was more concerned about moving northwards than coast wards, we had been having contacts with the fulanis and other tribes northward than before the portugi, when I say civilization (maybe I should have used early modern civilization), we all know that the fulanis were more advanced than us because of their contact with the arabs who were more advanced than them, they brought some of those enlightenment to us, abi that one no be civilization, I do not mean it in a perjorative manner sha, of course after our contact with the "white man" modern civilization now came from the coasts. |
@Kats Yeah I believe it could be so, though, the Ibadans, Egbas and Ijebus had been known to come to agreements even during those wars, the Egbas gave up a village to the Ibadans because of treachery on the Egba's side, I am sure the politicians used the civil war to stir up some emotions in the people, also remember that a lot of Ijebus make up Ibadan, though that could be ascribed to Ibadan being the center of modern Yoruba leadership as at then. |
The british kicked their behind and the Ibadans were not too interested in that area as the overriding objective was to get Ilorin and to push the Fulanis back, civilisation initially came from the North before the arrival of the British. The Ijebus were good warriors sha but there were quite a few wars and battles with the Ibadans that were usually settled no victor no vanquished. |
Jmaine is Yoruba? |
@Ufe See you, of course everyone will tell stories from their perspective, by the way the Ajeles were the guys situated in your land to collect royalties and instead of you guys to just pay your 20% pere, you guys came with stubborness, after all we needed money to fight the Ilorins nau, it is all good sha, where will I get my well pounded yam from if not from an Ekiti wife and an Ijesha mum. @ekt We (The Ibadans) were troublemakers, of course you guys got your independence and in return Ogedengbe tormented you guys after the war . |
@Ufe You guys did not win, it ended in a stalemate, Ekiti people too stubborn sha. The civil war should be taught in all SW states in a way that shows that our forefathers were warriors. |
@Eko Ile We know why that got you rolling, always baiting these guys. @Sauron Na so una be, stubborn beyond belief, I get una for house . The Ekitis and Ijeshas could not even hold the Ibadans, they had to call Fulani to help them, do not overrate your warriors, you guys were easy pickings, if not for those Egbas and especially the Ijebus who blockaded Ibadan, remember we are landlocked (that is why I laugh at these Biafra people), we would have used you guys for tooth pick, do you also know that the Ibadan warriors did not want to give victory so easily to their Baale so they were lackadaisical in their fights only fighting seriously when the camp was threatened, the Ijeshas and Ekitis should thank the British for coming in, we would have eventually settled with the Ijebus and Egbas and arms would have flowed freely to be used on you guys.@ACM At either the Kiriji wars or the one before that, the Ibadans only had few rifles and had to use swords and cutlasses to fight the ekiti and Ijeshas, they would allow the Parapos to discharge their load (modern rifle supplied to christians fighting on behalf of the parapos) before getting close and laying waste to them, do not call such people cowards again in your life. |
@Kats Yes I know she was an Egba woman living in Ibadan, me sef I don tire, na 12 am for naija make I go sleep. I will be on the look out for your posts. |
@ACM I hope you are aware that the bulk of the Fulani army was made up of Yoruba Generals who agreed to serve under those guys, please read up more on history before you open ur mouth. |
@Sauron The long term target was the Ilorins, but you pesky Ekitis and Ijeshas had to start something, maybe it was because of your mountains and hills that you thought you were super mario, we were more interested in the Fulanis who had taken Oyo and would have defeated them if you guys had not started all those wars, what is 20% to pay to those who will guarantee your safety, we should have even asked for 50% sef. @Dede First time I will agree with you, do not mind Sauron jare, he would have been called Mallam Salisu if not for the Ibadans. |
@Kilode Defeated who, you won some battles but not the war, of course Ibadans were born to fight, the city took in all sorts of people such that the only way to keep order was to war. @DK Abeg tell them o, we taught their warrior all he knew about fighting, I highlighted it in one of my posts, imagine these guys o. |
@Sauron Apparently you do not know the role of an Iyalode and how important it was in Ibadan history, you also do not know that Ibadan was originally an Egba town with Oyos, Ifes, Ijebus and Egbas living together, you do not know how Oyos came to dominate the town and what enmity it caused, Efunsetan was of course important but not that important that she could not be tamed, most of the chiefs would have made short work of her if she had threatened them. I hope you are aware that ogedengbe was trained in Ibadan as a warrior and swore not to go against his mentor? It was said that the Ekitis and Ijeshas were so docile that once captured, all you had to do was tell them to tell others who come by that they are your slave and you can go and come back to still meet them at the same spot, your people formed alliance with the Ilorins, we kicked their behind, you think it is easy to deal with the Fulanis? Abeg we no go start now as you guys are my inlaws and maternal relations. |
@Sauron You can not compare the Ibadans to Nazis and you guys did not win, Ogedengbe was a legend because he fought bravely and won many battles but not the war, he was feared because he was notorious, his boys were not giving to being gentle on civilians. Some of the wars fought by the Ibadans were through arrogance but some were brought upon them due to circumstance, remember the Ibadans were the last defenders of the yorubas and if they are sent by the Alaafin to fight they go willingly, the Ekitis, Ijeshas and Ife had an alliance with the mortal enemies of the yorubas the Fulanis, what did you expect the Ibadans to do, also remember that you had oyo towns that were loyal to Ibadan within enemy territories, did you expect Ibadan to leave them to their fate? As per the Egbas and Ijebus, the Egbas were trouble makers who wanted to teach the Ibadans a lesson, especially after they begged for the life of Efunsetan Aniwura and she was still killed, there were battles fought by Ibadans defending even brothers against brothers, according to the oyinbo that watched some of the battles, he was of the belief that the Ibadan maneuvering was superior to that of the others and would have won the war if left to fight it out, anyway, it is all good, my mum is Ijesha and my wife Ekiti, I have mad love for them people. |
They did not win anything, we actually fought them more than once, the British got involved in the second one, that was the one that ended in a deadlock. The Ibadans must be praised for they were fighting on three fronts and still managed to hold out due to superior tactics despite the fact that the Egbas and Ijebus had access to the seas and the Ijeshas had access to modern weaponry and some people will come online to say Yorubas are cowards. |
@Kats Ti Ibadan Ogunmola ba gba e mun, we go use you tayin, you know say Ogunmola was another Benjamin Adekunle, he shoots anything that moves, including his own; do not mind those Egbas, they had support of the Ijebus who had access to the seas, of course we defeated them and would have beaten them sillier if not for the pesky Ekitis and the wily Ilorins that were fighting us at the same time, they should have waited their turn. The wars of those days were fought by real men, they recognized courage whenever they saw it. There was a battle that was fought by the Ibadans against the Egbas and Ijebus defending an Ijebu town, infact, that contributed in no small way to the mutiny of the Ijebu Chiefs against their Awujale. As per Dede's statement, the guy no dey serious, if his people had dared to teach the Ibadans anything, their heads would have been off their necks, you will presume to teach hardened Generals the act of war? |
@Kats Ibadan will still kick all of una behind, you know we captured your general Ogendengbe several times (very brave and honorable man), kai, if not for the british, we would have dealt with all these small villages calling themselves towns, imagine the Ijeshas and Ekitis talking where Ibadans are (Ifes are nonentities, Modakeke dey kampe). Warring was a past time, heck, whenever a new Baale was chosen in Ibadan, the next thing is to declare war even for flimsy reasons. The Ilorins were cunning sha, but, the burning desire in the heart of all yorubas was to get Ilorin back (infighting no let them achieve am sha). |
@Katsumoto The Ibadans had the Modakeke's back because they were originally Oyos though the modakekes were warriors afterall they had fought the Fulanis (no be beans to fight cavalry) and practically had nowhere to go, funny thing is present day modakeke was not the original modakeke. @ufe Of course we were fighting one another, though, we fought with honor and knew when to negotiate. @Dayo The Ibadans and their Oyo guys will kick the Ekiti and Ijesha parapo, na today? |
@OP Look for a book titled the History of the Yorubas, you will find it compelling, Ife could not have sacked Modakeke as the Modakekes were on Ife Land, the Modakekes sacked the Ifes several times (remember the modakekes had fought the fulanis and were battle hardened). |
I believe Buhari rejected PTF's pay when he was appointed saying he was already being paid by the government, I do not know if he is only drawing his General's pay or the two. There is a need to reduce all these payments, we are a poor country and these monies can be used to provide infrastructure or even scholarships to deserving students. |
The owners of Nigeria do not want any kind of sovereign national conference, the owners are PDP guys, I suggest we start thinking of changing the bloody constitution into a federal one instead of a unitary one, that might be easier to do than sovereign national conference. |
@Ngwa Abeg post a link, you are spamming this board with all of this. |
There are Jews in Iran who are Iranians and have refused to emigrate to Israel or other places, they enjoy the same rights as others and are being protected by the Iranian government. There is a war on the horizon and it is coming very soon to Iran, the country is about to be iraqed. @those demonizing Iran, you guys need to understand international politics, everything is not black or white. |
Apparently you do not know what bank MDs go through before they are appointed, there is no way this would have been kept under wraps if it was true, it would have been used to blackmail him, my guy, look for something else to pin on the man, this one is a no no. |
Fani Kayode comes out of no where to mud sling and you guys take it hook line and sinker, Sanusi is locked up and nobody has picked up on it all this while, I am sure Sanusi is not perfect, but to accuse him of murder is an all time low, do you guys think he would have been put in charge of first bank if he was a murderer? |
Sanusi haters gathering again, Fani Kayode suddenly becomes the truth himself, I just shake myself at all of you, I do not even know why the guy did not allow Oceanic and Intercontinental to fail, I am sure you guys will be singing a new song by now. |
