Hello my people!

I give glory to God for his mercies and faithfulness.
After two US denials last year and one Canadian denial in 2018, (all study visas), UK has opened their doors and I'm more than glad to walk through them.

Application Sep 18
Biometrics Sep 28
Decision mail Oct 16
Visa approval/Collection of passport Oct 19
Na travel date I dey plan so.

I want to profusely thank all Nairaland members on this thread, especially those who painstakingly and selflessly answer others' queries and guide them on this journey, (special thanks to Mimilyrics), you guys are the best. You don't know what you do for us. I came in here so dejected and confused but you put me through and now, I'm headed to the next phase of my life at the University of Sussex. May God bless you all.
I have mixed feelings right now especially with what happened to our brothers and sisters in Lagos yesterday. It's sad that we have to leave our country in this sorry state even though temporarily. Please let us continue to pray for Nigeria wherever we are or find ourselves. This is our home.

Goodluck to everyone still applying. Don't let anything discourage you whether age or degree or previous visa denials or whatever, dare to go for your dreams and God will make a way. If you need further assistance, please contact the UKEAS offices. They are very helpful as well.

Hi Guys. For those who are yet to apply or who deferred, please continually check the school's website for updated information.
E.g, Sussex University updates their applicant information page nearly every day. Now, many PG courses have been revised both in names, structure and start dates with January 2021 start dates. So, there's time to apply and meet up.

With my payment, $1020 for IHS and $473 for visa fee. I find out that your circumstance( course start& end date, location of institution etc) will determine how much the system will bring for you to pay. Paid with my dollar card

Okay. But mine shouldn't be up to this oh. It's like you're going for a program of more than 1 year.

The weather of London & Sussex is is almost the same. Brighton is a beautiful place and Tourist area. During summer na for yu to dey waka go the sea to collect fresh air. As a student, is advisable you check for cheaper accommodation in Brighton and if not, you can move to town close to Brighton and commute on bus to your university. If you need 9ja food stuff, buy a London Travelcard and travel on weekends, is about 70mins on train to London.

Okay Nice. Thanks for this. I applied for the University managed accommodation, which is about 160-167 pounds a week. Everything is provided. Just come with your clothes and personal items.
I hope its safe too.

Do you pay online with a debit card?

What exchange rates do they use?

Thanks

Yes but you upload that on the TLS portal after submitting your application on UKVI site.
Based on the discussions here, wait times are roughly 1 month but appointment slots are released daily so you can always get a date closer than your initial appointment date.

Okay. Thanks again Mimi. It's much clearer now.

Whether you state that it's for embassy use or not, statements released by banks on their letter heads and stamped are official except in cases where backdoor deals have been made.

I guess it should be. Then I don't understand why the supposed bank staff will make such a comment. Again, it doesn't hurt to ask. Better to err on the side of caution.

Yes and that’s what you’ll get if you attempt to use fraudulent document to get visa.

Which one is you have to inform your bank before printing statement lol

What’s next? Are you going to inform them before you withdraw too??

He said the bank said it's against their policy to verify unofficial bank statements. So, maybe everyone should check their own bank's policy. It won't cost anyone anything to verify first or to request for bank statement specifying its for embassy. Even without being told, that's what I planned to do. Some people don't like to take chances.

Good evening everyone, Pls before you print out your bank statement make sure the bank is aware oo, for instance now, i used Access bank for my 28days stuff, i went to the bank and requested for 28days bank statement and i told them that I'll be using it for Uk , in other word I'll be submitting it to the Uk embassy, by scanning it.
There i was told that, the platform for that is different from the normal printing of bank statement, that If I'm given the normal one, it won't be attended to, when the embassy wants to verify it, as it is against their policy, that they have to send it via there official mail, so pls before you print out contact your bank ooo

Good advice. Noted. Thanks

1. After submitting your application and paying your visa fee. The biometrics appointment and interview dates are the same.
2. Depends on the dates available. Prior to Covid, you could get next day appointments or within a few days of your submission but there are longer wait times now.

Okay thank you Mimi.

So, my 28-day ready bank statement is going in with my online application right?

How long are the wait times currently for bio-metrics appointment? Do you have an idea?

Hi everyone. How was the weekend? Hope great. May God guide and direct us all in our academic endeavors.

Pls at what stage do I schedule an appointment?

Is the interview date the appointment date too?

What is the time frame between bio-metrics, interview, appointment and online form submission? Let me not get it twisted.

Please can someone break down the time frames for me? I'm still gathering my funds for 28 days and I need to know how to calculate everything.

I'll appreciate it. Mimilyrics. I see you on here. : )

Your school will issue you a new cas showing the last date of entry which in your case is 16th Oct. So you have no problem with UK immigration because a copy of the updated cas will be sent to them as well. I was in that same situation once

Yes thank you. I have confirmed this as well. You said you've been in this situation? Are you in the UK now?

The UK immigration border won't need to check your CAS, your visa is enough. The most important thing is notifying your school and getting your visa.

Cheers

Hi,

There are 2 scenarios, 1. You apply for your visa, UK will issue a vignette on your passport which usually expires in 30days (unless it changes), in that case, if you don't meet up, you can reapply for a new vignette but you have to explain why you didn't resume studies in the first place. (and it has to be compelling not just financials or time), you might also need a new CAS or document showing your school is aware of your late resumption.

2. You don't apply for a visa, then perharps your school will reissue a new CAS with the revised start date or a document of some sort saying your late resumption was accepted. With that you can begin your visa process within the given timeframe

Hopefully your school gives more direction as this process differs

Others can add to this

Cheers

I appreciate your response but I don't quite understand you're saying. I was asking whether the UK immigration at the border will allow entry to the UK when your start date has passed. But I assume that if they approve the visa seeing the start date on the CAS, then it won't be a problem to travel.

I've received tremendous help and clarification here. I wanna say thank you guys. Nairalanders are the best.

Now that I'm clearer on the process, I'm still a bit concerned that I won't be able to make it in time for my welcome week, which is Sep 21 and start of lectures, which is Sep 28.

My school, Sussex University stated on their website that due to the current crisis and the unforeseen delays, they will allow students resume as late as October 16, 2020 and before that time, offer online classes.

My question now is, will UK immigration allow students entry into the country even after our start date has passed? For US, I know they refuse visas when you are applying past your start date and don't like to see students travel after this date. Is it the same for UK?

I should meet up with this Oct 16th date. I've emailed the school also with this question but while I await...

Anyone??

Good afternoon guys,

I have a few questions as per the 28 days statement of account. After print out and subsequent visa application and interview,
1. do they require the money to still be in the account after interview till the period of decision on one’s status?
2. If self-funded, do they request for evidence of source of fund like payslip, investment at the interview stage?

Your response will be highly appreciated

Thanks

I have asked your first question before. So, it's advised that you leave the money in your account until you receive your visa decision.

For your second question, I'm not sure they do but another person who knows better may answer better.

After paying deposits to the school, you'll need to have your maintenance fees and the second half of the fees available in your account for 28days before you can apply for visa. Some schools will issue you CAS immediately you pay the initial deposits while others will want to see your finances are in order to apply for Visa before issuing you the CAS. UKVI confirms your financial standing with the bank, and it's best you let the money sit until you've been given a visa or better yet you're entering the UK

Noted. Thank you Kode.

Career / Re: Do Not Accept A Banking Job - I Refused To Listen by HerMoney: 4:21pm On Aug 04, 2020
I agree with the person who advised you should not be in a hurry. You need to reset your escape, make-it-right-now, short-sighted mentality.

It was this same mindset that landed you in the mess you're in right now. You took the bank job just to make quick money and because it was the fad back then and now, you're looking for the next trending job to hop unto. Take your time and do your research while you also pray for guidance.

Relax and look within not outside yourself. Think of your talents, skills and natural giftings and think of how you can create value by tapping into them. Not saying you can't learn a new skill but let it be aligned with your core gifts this time not just what is trending or what'll bring in money.

You got the money through banking right but you're still dissatisfied. Learn a lesson from your past experiences.

Hello guys.

Does one need to submit bank statement with the total tuition + maintenance for CAS? Does the 28 day rule also apply for CAS?

Also, for Visa, can I withdraw funds from my account as soon as the 28 days are over and I've submitted my application? Do they do verification checks with banks?

Pls help a sister out.

Thanks

Wow! This is mighty helpful Mimilyrics. Thank you so much for taking the time to share these info and links. You're too kind. I appreciate it. May God bless you and grant you a favorable new month.

mimilyrics:
You can get a T4 visa despite your US refusals; just ensure you state them + the reasons (if any) in your application, ensure that all your documents meet UKVI requirements and prepare for your credibility interview (knowledge about your accomodation & transport options, course & school in addition to not giving generic answers during your interview and confidence during your interview are important).

Read the links below for more info and if you have questions, post them here and anyone who's available will answer them:
Nottingham has explained the Tier 4 Visa process in this link and there's a link to the T4 official guidance in the explanation (take note that the maintenance quoted is for outside London): https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/studywithus/international-applicants/visa-help/10-steps.aspx

Information on how to apply is here on UKVI site: https://www.gov.uk/tier-4-general-visa

Cost:
1. Visa fee - £348
2. IHS - £300 per year; goes up to £470 in October. You can use the IHS checker in this link to calculate your IHS fees: https://www.immigration-health-surcharge.service.gov.uk/checker/type
3. TB test N57,800

Required documents / information for your application:
1. Your CAS information from your school; this information will be filled in your visa application form. Your CAS will also show all the documents that you need to submit with your application.
2. TB test certificate.
3. Documents listed in your CAS.
4. Finance: your tuition fee/balance + maintenance )£1015 monthly *9 for outside London and £1,265*9 monthly for London).
If your course is for more than one year, you only need to show your course fees for 1 year and maintenance for 9 months. You'll pay IHS for ¹/² year though since you'll be granted 4-6 extra months after your course end date.

How to show tuition balance and/or maintenance:
A. Your bank statement: This money must be in your account or your parents' for at least 28 days before the day you submit your application online. You will upload your statement to show this.
B. Official financial sponsorship letter from an international company/organisation, the Nigerian govt, the British govt or your T4 sponsor (school). A sponsorship letter will be required except in the case of a scholarship fro. your school; scholarship from your school will be detailed in your CAS.
C. Loan: must be from a bank regulated by the financial regulators in the country in which the money is held. A loan later within the 6 months before the date you submit your online application will be required.

Document submission:
After you submit your online application, you will need to pay your IHS, then visa fee before you can select an appointment.
Once you select an appointment, you can select self-upload which is free or assisted upload which costs N11,700.
If you select self-upload, you must upload clear and legible scans of all your documents (preferably in colour since this will closely look like the original). You can upload documents up till the day of your biometrics appointment. You can scan and save your documents in pdf format using the TinyScanner App
If you select the assisted upload, the VAC staff will take care of the scans + uploads for you.
If I missed out anything in the list above, I'll update as soon as I remember.
You can watch the video by TLS in the link below for a step-by-step explanation on the visa application process:

Rubbish, lengthy post. It's very easy to tell people to be patient, but we often times don't show patience when we are disrespected.

I would like to know what better advice you offered him in your 'sensible brief post'. What results have his impatience yielded for him?

If I don't show patience when I'm disrespected, I am the one who will lose my peace and my grace. And I'll live to learn that lesson another day.

We can't run away from it. The universe makes sure of it. We are in this world to learn, grow and evolve and I'm more interested in this young man's growth and future success than in his momentary pleasure.

Poster let me advice you from a mature standpoint.
Don't listen to all these immature boys telling you to go and fight, threaten your brother and filling your head with stories about your brother and his wife using your glory, this and that. Rubbish! Wrong advice will create more problems for you but wisdom is profitable to direct.

First, I will acknowledge that your in-laws have their own faults and have not handled this problem wisely. They ignored your complaints about your sleep disturbances then leaving your mattress out in the rain was completely heartless of them. Simple communication between all parties would have resolved things BUT it's unfortunate that your brother failed to use his authority as head of the home to instruct his young in-laws by decreeing 'No watching TV until about 9 or 10 in the morning.' At that time, you would have woken up and gone about your business for the day while they have the whole parlor to themselves.

That said, let's focus on you now, who is the ONLY PERSON you can change really. You and no one else!

Many of us fuel problems in our interpersonal relationships with our attitude and reactions because we are not equipped or mature enough to handle conflict and that's your problem here. You've let ANGER and PRIDE control you and in turn, it created more problems for you than you are equipped to handle. And you will never resolve it by running back to the village or getting your own place. You will only be at peace with yourself and your family AFTER you have learned the lessons and grown from this situation. Otherwise, you will meet a bigger test in future that you will likely fail because you didn't learn from this one. What are these lessons?

You were wrong to slap your in-law. You were provoked but that is no justification for assault.
You were wrong to refuse to apologize to her, whether she's your mate or junior, it doesn't matter. I apologize to my younger ones when I hurt them.
You are wrong to insist on going back to the village rather than seeking a resolution that will benefit all parties. I'm not saying you must stay back and serve your brother for life but leaving angrily and prematurely is not the way that you are supposed to part ways with him.

Seeking a resolution NOT running away is the wiser and more mature thing to do as it will benefit all parties and also allow you the peace of mind to make the right decisions for your future. Human beings can be troublesome but sometimes, when they see that you a peace loving person, they tend to calm down and relax around you. How do you exhibit this trait?

Go back and apologize to the girl in front of her sister and your brother and let them know you understand your actions were wrong and have decided to take responsibility for them.
Greet everyone when you wake up in the morning.
Do your chores and relate with everyone normally.
Go out of your way to be nice to them. Treat them like your younger sisters. Girls are emotional beings and usually respond well when they are treated with compassion.
Offer to help them with little chores etc.
Talk to them respectfully and not grudgingly.
Don't resent them in your heart.

It requires humility and grace to do these but with God's help you can do it. It won't feel easy on your flesh or ego but this is key to regaining your peace, freedom, power, dignity and respect that you've LOST in that house.

Do all these for the next two weeks to one month and see whether you won't see a change. Then go on your knees in prayer to God to help make a way for you, whether it's by getting another job, no matter how little or your brother settling you. Other solutions and opportunities may arise, which you never thought because you are now at peace mentally and psychologically and can think clearly. I promise you, you will see a miraculous change if you take my advice. The peace alone you will feel might even make you not want to leave again. BUT if you do all these and they don't change, don't let your heart be troubled for God will be watching and you will get the reward for your obedience.

Remember, God UPLIFTS THE HUMBLE and only humility will save you in this situation. Acting proud and insisting on your rights like so many have advised here will not. I can guarantee you that. I have so many testimonies of God's grace and upliftment when I humbled myself rather than choose to sulk in bitterness.

Going back to the village might turn out to be a huge setback for you as you don't know the temptations and problems that are waiting there for you.

This incident is an opportunity for you to step into the next phase of your destiny but the enemy is also waiting for you to take a wrong step and lose out or be destroyed completely. Open your eyes and be wise. You have more control than you realise.

I will leave you with this saying by Ralph Waldo Emerson - 'A great man is always willing to be little'.

So, stoop to conquer.

All the best.
