Some of the old smartphones will not have the world’s most popular messaging platform running on their smartphones after December 31, 2018
The Facebook-owned messaging platform has announced that WhatsApp support would end for some mobile OS today, December 31. The company regularly announces the list of operating systems for which it will soon end its support.

In 2017, WhatsApp support for Windows Phone 8.0, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 was discontinued on December 31, 2017, and now going forward the messaging platform will be withdrawing support for Nokia S40 series phones in 2019, and some older Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread smartphones and iPhones running iOS 7 in 2020.

“The decision was taken because we will no longer be actively developing for these platforms and some features might stop functioning at any time. When we look ahead to our next seven years, we are looking to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms that a vast majority of people use. These platforms/phones don’t offer the kind of capabilities WhatsApp needs to expand its features in the future,” said WhatsApp in a statement.

Starting with Nokia’s S40 series, WhatsApp will stop running on these old Nokia phones after December 31. However, the devices running Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread and older version will be ending WhatsApp support after February 1, 2020. It won’t impact many users as only 0.3 percent of the Android smartphones are running Android Gingerbread platform.

Additionally, in February 2020, some old iPhones running iOS 7 and older versions will not be able to run WhatsApp. Apple had provided update to most devices with iOS 7 to higher version, so in case you still want to use it, you will be required to update your phone in order to continue using the messaging platform.

The developers at WhatsApp company have undoubtedly had a busy year as the company has launched a number of new features for the platform. These features have ranged from small useful additions to the apps to larger new feature add-ons to improve the experience for users.

The company also introduced some features to combat the menace of misinformation and fake news on the platform. However, before we begin a new year, we are revisiting the top five amazing features that the developers added to the app this year, 2018.

1. WHATSAPP STICKER:
WhatsApp stickers is probably the marquee feature that the company introduced for its users. WhatsApp finally introduced sticker support on its platform, a feature that was already present on other messaging platforms like Telegram and Hike. This new feature captured the imagination of users as it introduced a new way for users to interact with their contacts. The feature also turned out to be significant for Android and iOS app makers because of the way WhatsApp implemented along with its app.

2. WHATSAPP GROUP CALLING:
The company also finally introduced group calling for its users allowing them to add more users to a call. Though the total number of users in a group call can’t exceed beyond four, this feature has turned out to be a good replacement for the cellular conference feature that most users have used. At the end of the year, the company also introduced a new group calling shortcut that makes the process of initiating a group call much easier.

3. FORWARD LIMIT ON MESSAGES:
The platform faced a lot of flak this year from the government because of the role it played in the fake news problem. Malicious players have been using the platform to spread disinformation which simply adds to the problem. The problem grew to such proportion that it eventually led to multiple lynching across the country. To combat this, the company introduced a limit on the number of messages that users could forward to their contact list at any given time. Globally, the limit is 20 chat. In India, it is 5 chats because Indian has this huge problem of misinformation (more than Nigeria) spreading through the platform.

4. DETECTING SUSPICIOUS LINKS:
In addition to the limit on the number of messages that any user could send to their contact list, the company also introduced a new feature that would warn users in case they are forwarding messages from suspicious websites. This feature is meant to focus on making users aware of what they are sharing and sending to their friends and family on WhatsApp. In case the app detects a suspicious link, it gives users two options, either to visit the link or to go back.

5. PICTURE-IN-PICTURE MODE:
The last on our list, developers working at WhatsApp also introduced a new feature that finally allows users to watch videos without leaving the app. This means that they can simply tap on the video preview link if they receive a link for a Facebook, YouTube or Instagram video and tapping that will open a small window in the app. Users can also tap to make the video full screen, and don’t need to open a new app or open the browser to watch the video.

SPACING BETWEEN PEOPLE: yeah, yeah, yeah. I know you'll begin to wonder the oxymoron here comparing the advantages of SM to this point. It is worthy to note that, the relationship with different people varies depending on how close we are or more interaction we engage in. The cold truth is most times we replace SM with giving people a phonecall, visiting them or even texting them via their mobile line. You may not totally subscribe to this opinion but chats can't fully replace these things with the exception of video call to some extent.

Even if you communicate regularly via chats, calling them at a frequency that is determined by your closeness is very germane just like visiting as the same reason above. Quite a number of people at least the little that I know rely basically on SM to send a good number of their messages and even the important ones like anniversary, birthday, wedding, and a variety of congratulatory messages only via SM. Also, like I said, this may be a function of how close we are to the person in question.

Now I can read your mind trying to weigh yourself on this, I wish you ease as you try to adjust.


MASKING WITH EMOJIS: oh I know what's coming to your mind right away. The favourite emoji you use to either ignore, engage, or show your mood. I also have my favourite ones too but I'll keep that for now. You know what?, Emojis can be deceiving in some cases. The kind of emoji used by people may not necessarily display their mood in reality. Just like in communication, verbal and nonverbal expression needs to be connected to a large extent.

Even with depression affecting a quite number of people these days, they tend to use some of this for cover up which may worsen matters except people see and relate with them often to know what they are going through and help them out. However, there are times when the usage is genuine.


FAKING CONFIDENCE: Do you remember the..., well I'd say quite popular Maclean's advert with the mantra "I got my confidence back". A number of people may show confidence via SM with the way they text but in reality they are as timid as a snail (but wait, is a snail actually timid?) Now the question is whose fault is it? They have seen SM as a new world which is virtual and forgotten the actual one they live in which is the real. This kind of people are referred to as textrovert. Fine, some are naturally shy which is a good character and doesn't mean they are not confident. Those kind of people also exhibit it to a large extent on SM because it's their nature.

Also some individuals are garrulous on SM. They say almost anything, using the opportunity of not seeing the other person except in a video call. However in reality, they can't even near bit of their acrobatic texts, comments or posts on SM in speech. It sometimes gives people the opportunity to say things (positive/negative) to people they can't ordinarily tell when they see. So, If you have been speaking confidently on SM, don't end it there, take it to the real world too.


PRIVACY UNBOXED: there are quite a number of people that their entire life is a function of SM. Every single moment of their life will be captioned there even if they just met with their spouses (and this is not based on assumption). This no doubt must have been seen or observed in some of our friends, celebrities amongst other categories. Our whole life should not be a national news that should be read like punch newspaper where people know every now and then, actions and inactions, success and failures about us amongst others.

Don't get this twisted, I am a fan of you celebrating yourself when you achieve a feat but my point here is making the SM a full glimpse into every part of our lives. In case you forgot, according to my faith, there are evil eyes which are real and one's life may be in jeopardy by their actions, so hold tight to what ever you believe in. I am not trying to be fetish here but the reality of life.


TIME FUNERAL: Whether we accept it or not, there is quite number if minutes to hours we spend in SM everyday for various things depending on individual and what we do. This is particularly a problem for those that are not disciplined. However there are some whose daily work demands their presence on SM almost every time and in return, they make money from it as well. For some, they use it to add value to others, improving their lives amongst other positive things. But for those who do not fall into this category, we need to be conscious about our time spent on SM depending on our personal schedule.


As much as one can get involved with reasonable discussion and trends, one can also get entwined with those that are obnoxious.

It certainly won’t be an exaggeration to say that Nokia 9 PureView has generated a considerable amount of hype in the past couple of months. The alleged Nokia flagship has been a regular to the rumor mill town with a number of leaks surfacing on the internet. Though HMD Global recently acknowledged (sort of) that a smartphone called Nokia 9 is in the works but the Finnish company has not given any timeframe or any additional details about the upcoming device.

As reported, the rumors in the past have given us a brief idea of what to expect in terms of specifications when HMD Global plans to launch its top-tier smartphone in the coming months. Regardless of the fact that it will be one of the first flagship smartphones that HMD Global will launch after resurrecting the Nokia brand, one highlight that everyone is excited to see it the camera capabilities of the device.

According to rumors, the Nokia 9 PureView is likely to come with a Penta-lens camera set up on the back along with ZEISS optics. A number of leaks over the past few weeks seem to have confirmed this fact. The reason everyone is almost confident is due to the fact that the leaks are coming from smartphone case makers. Smartphone case makers are one of the first in the market to get access to the design of any upcoming device so that they can keep the accessories ready for the launch. Spending too much money while I earn little

In August of this year, Infinix had launched the Smart 2 running on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. Almost five months later after the it was launched, the smartphone has started receiving the latest Android 9.0 Pie update. The company took to its official Facebook page to announce the roll out of the latest OS update.

The announcement, first spotted by XDA-Developers, doesn’t really reveal what new features Infinix Smart 2 device users will be getting. Instead, it only teases the new OS update. Having said that, Android Pie does come with a bunch of new features including Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, App Actions, Slices, and more.
