A teacher from Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke in the North West in South Africa has been suspended following the outrage over a photo she allegedly took of black pupils seated separately from their white classmates on their first day of school.


The announcement was made by the North West department of education during a meeting at the school following the online outrage and demonstrations by the community and political groups at the school.


According to gathered by IgbereTv reporters, the department confirmed that the teacher had been suspended with immediate effect.

The Rwandan government has announced a ban on cosmetic products used for lightening the skin.


“Love the skin you’re in”, is the message from Rwanda’s government in the fight against skin lightening products, reports IGTV.


Francois Uwinkindi of Rwanda’s Ministry of Health Cancer Unit said, “We are now putting more effort into educating people, going around and seizing those illegal products. We are joining those countries who are also in this fight against the use of those illegal skin-lightening cosmetics”.


Rwandan president, Paul Kagame, had earlier raised concerns about the growing use of skin-lightening products on social media.


On his verified Twitter handle last year, Rwanda had reacted to a call for the banning of the skin lightening products by tweeting;

“Quite unhealthy among other things. Includes use of prohibited chemicals. MoH and RNP need to reign this in very quickly!”


It was reported that police in the country have already started confiscating thousands of products since the closing weeks of 2018.


But many users are not happy with this move. They say they have every right to choose the way they wish to look.


Many African countries have banned skin lightening products, but laws aren’t enforced and skin-whitening creams and soaps flood the markets in several African countries like Ghana, South Africa, Mali, Nigeria, etc.


American model, Blac Chyna was in Nigeria late last year to promote a new skin lightening cream, produced by Dencia.


Both the manufacturer and the ambassador were bashed by Nigerians on social media, that they had to disable comments on their Instagram pages.

Benue State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Godwin Anya, has been attacked by armed robbers, IgbereTv reports.


While he escaped unhurt, his wife was shot.
Anya disclosed this to journalists in a telephone interview to explain his absence at the protest march by the labour on Tuesday.


Anya said he could not lead the protest because of the robbery attack in which his wife was shot.


Narrating his ordeal in the hands of armed robbers, the state labour leader said he had travelled to his village in Ushongo to celebrate Christmas and New Year when they were attacked by robbers.


According to him, at about 12 midnight, the entire family gathered in his house in prayer to usher in the New Year when more than five armed men attacked them.


“They led me to the bedroom and collected over N750,000 meant for my children’s school fees and all our handsets. I have reported the incident to the Ushongo Divisional Police Officer,” Anya said.


Meanwhile, labour leaders in the state marched round the major streets of Makurdi on Tuesday over the minimum wage.


The march terminated at the Government House where the state Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council 1, 2 and 3, Ojotu Ojemu, who represented the NLC boss, urged the governor to ensure that the robbers were apprehended.


He also called for security aides to protect labour leaders in the state, noting that the new minimum wage of N30,000 was lawful.


Speaking on the protest, the National President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, represented by Dr Success Leke, the national auditor of the union, advised Governor Samuel Ortom to prevail on his colleagues to implement the new minimum wage.


Ortom, who sympathised with workers over their plight, said if given the capacity, he would instantly implement the new minimum wage.


He however called on the Federal Government to review the revenue sharing formula.


“For my administration, I am committed to prioritising payment of workers’ salaries and this is exactly what we are doing”, Ortom said.

A man took to a Facebook group to reveal how far he went to clip his independent wife's wings and make her submissive to him, IgbereTv news report.

The man said his wife became too independent after he started a business for her. But he couldn't take the shop or wares back because they were all in her name, so he decided to sabotage her business without her knowing he was responsible.

He said he sent people to steal all his wife's goods from her shop then he set part of the shop on fire. He then compensated the owner of the shop building and asked him to put someone else in the shop because his wife won't be needing it anymore.

I personally opened a shop for her, she sells wears for male and female i stocked the shop and made her a boss, recently all i do hear from her is i can take care of myself, i can stand on my own I am a boss lady and all.

Any slight misunderstanding between us she will quickly remind me that she's capable of taking care of herself.

It got so bad that we had a misunderstanding and she moved in to a hotel for 1week I went and apologized which made her returned home .

So I decided to clip her wings.

I sent people to rob her shop, use trailer to pack everything including the doors and show glass overnight I paid the security people because they know me very well, i set part of the building on fire but controlled it.

The next day she got the news but she almost died and was hospitalized for a week.

I paid the owner of the place and asked him to put another person, i did all that because i rented the shop in her name so I can't take it from her.

Now she's calm back to my wife, take time satisfy me in bed and cook my meal , no more in a hurry to talk when i talk

Now she's so humble, the problem now is that she has become a monitoring spirit following up and down and beating young girls around me .

Is she frustrated? Or depressed?

How do i help her aside from making her independent ?

A Japanese billionaire's tweet has become the most retweeted of all time after he offered to give away £7,000 to 100 randomly selected Twitter users, IgbereTv News report.


Yusaku Maezawa , the founder and CEO of Japan's largest online fashion retailer Zozotown ousted the previous record set by teenager Carter Wilkinson's appeal for free chicken nuggets for a year back in May 2017.


Mr. Yusaku received over four million retweets for his post on January 5, after he offered to give out £7,000 to 100 randomly selected Twitter users who retweet his tweet.

A spokesperson for the government of Gabon has said the political situation in the country is "under control", following an attempted military coup.


According to reports gathered by IgbereTv reporters, Guy-Bertrand Mapangou said that four of the rebels had been arrested by the authorities. A fifth is on the run.


The junior officers claimed they seized power "to restore democracy" in oil-rich Gabon, where the ailing leader's family has ruled for 50 years.


Tanks and armed vehicles could be seen in the capital Libreville.


"The situation is calm. The gendarmes who are often stationed there have taken control of the entire area around the radio and TV headquarters, so everything is back to normal", said Mr Mapangou.

Mr Mapangou said that the army generals, civil society and opposition leaders mentioned in the rebels' statement as potential supporters would be investigated.


He added that the officer on the run would be arrested "in the coming hours."


Current leader Ali Bongo succeeded his father Omar Bongo as president in 2009. He narrowly won re-election in 2016 in a poll marred by violence and accusations of fraud.


What happened this morning?

The five soldiers took control of the national radio station at 04:30 local time (03:30 GMT) to read a short statement announcing a "National Restoration Council".


In a video circulating on social media, three young soldiers can be seen in a radio studio wearing military fatigues and holding guns.


Lt Kelly Ondo Obiang, who said he represented a group called the Patriotic Movement of the Defence and Security Forces of Gabon, specifically appealed to young people to "take charge of their destiny".


The insurgents called on soldiers to take control of the transport system, ammunition reserves and airports "in the interests of the nation".


IgbereTv learnt that the coup attempt came as a huge surprise. The army has always been seen as loyal to the Bongo family, he said, because it is dominated by the presidential guard, who mostly come from Mr Bongo's home region.

Most of the capital remains calm, an eyewitness told IgbereTv news agency. The French government and the African Union condemned the attempted coup.

Ninety-seven-year-old Head of Shillim village, Daffo District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Baba Magit Mallo, has vowed not to abandon his ancestral land for the Fulani herdsmen, IgbereTv News report.


Mallo said he won’t run away from the village for the Fulani, if the herders wanted to kill him, he was ready.


He said: “Why should I run away? If they want to kill me, let them kill me. But I won’t run away from this land where my father and my grandparents were born.”


The village head known in Hausa as “Mai Angwa” and his family are the only ones currently resident in Shillim village, where over 35 people, including children and women, were killed on March 8, 2018 when suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded the village and burnt down 48 houses, food items and places of worship.


When our correspondent visited Shillim and other villages, it was learnt that apart from Mallo, his wife and children, all other people have fled to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at the Regional Church Council (RCC), Daffo, for refuge.


“What happened is that Fulani herdsmen attacked us on March 8, 2018 and burnt down the entire houses in the village, destroyed the houses, killed over 35 persons, including children and women. But God saved me. I spent three days in the bush before coming back. Since then, I have been staying here. My wife and children ran way for safety and left me here. She just came back a few days ago. I won’t run away; let them kill me in my ancestral land,” Mallo said.


He called on the President Muhammdu Buhari and Governor Simon Lalong to ensure the return of his people to their ancestral homes as was done in the case of Gashish in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.


“We are peaceful people. My people want to come back and farm; we are farmers. We are pleading with government to help my people who are in Daffo to return to their homes. You can see all the houses in the village were burnt. I am just here by the Grace of God. Governor Simon Lalong should help our people before another raining season; we want to go back to farm,” the village head added.


When IgbereTv correspondent visited the IDP camp located at the RCC, Daffo, people representing hundreds of households that were displaced, queued to present data to the officers of the Operation Save Heaven, also known as Special Task Force, saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace in Plateau State and other surrounding states. This was being done as part of efforts to return the IDPs to their ancestral homes.


The Special Tasks Force had earlier taken a bold step toward relocation of the Gashish IDPs to their ancestral homes.


The Secretary, RCC, Daffo, Rev Ishaku Joshua Mangai, said at the moment over 500 IDPs were being accommodated in the church.


He said: “When the attack occurred in March, 2018 about three local church councils were affected. Over 5,000 persons, including women, children and the old were displaced. But they are now scattered within Bokkos and Daffo to stay with some to their relatives. Others have got temporary homes to stay. Currently we have about 500 in the RCC. People and churches donate food items and toiletries for their use.”


Mangai commended the efforts of the Special Task Force for coming to the church to collect data for the planning of relocation of the IDPs to their communities.


He said government must provide enabling environment for all displaced communities to relocate.


Most of the children, according to him, are out of school due to the sacking of over seven villages.


IgbereTv correspondent also visited Ngakudung, Shillim, Murok among other villages that were all burnt down.


Locals called on government at levels to ensure the prompt rebuilding and return of the displaced persons to their ancestral homes.
