When Ojukwu expressed his disgust over the murder of Igbo army officers by their northern colleagues in July 1966, Lt-Colonel Katsina interjected by asking Ojukwu why he had not reacted with the same revulsion when senior northern military officers were murdered by Igbo soldiers seven months earlier. Ojukwu now explained and reasoned that against the falsehood been spread but in January 1966, soldiers from every region of the federation (Nzeogwu: Mid-West, Ifeajuna-East, Ademoyega: West, Kpera: North) had staged a coup in which soldiers and politicians from every region of the federation (Akintola: West, Balewa: North, Unegbe: East, Okotie-Eboh: Mid-West) were also killed.
Whereas when northern soldiers staged a revenge coup in July, soldiers from one region of the federation only (North: Danjuma, Murtala, Martin Adamu etc) singled out soldiers from one region in the federation as their targets. Katsina took this opportunity to remind Ojukwu of the effort he had put in to prevent the murder of Igbos. Katsina told Ojukwu that "If you know how much …we have tried to console the people to stop all these movements and mass killings, you will give me and others a medal tonight."

As grand as the Aburi accord may have been at the time, its of no relevance now. . . When would you wipe your tears, pick up your sorry arse and move on with your life?!

Its people like you that spend all your effort hating the Northerners and the Westerners around you, keeping malice meanwhile they barely even know that you exist. Ypu say we were thaught to hate igbos, I laugh at the splendour of your delusion . . The only thing mentioned about that beat-down that you all a war was in socials studies class in primary 4 and it barely took a chapter in the text book sef. Nobody has your time. . .

Keep all the manuscripts you can find from the war, keep all the war memmemorabilia/parparaphernalia u can find, all the recordings, pictures and publications. . . They would be worth a poo load of money 100 years down the line, when they would be sold at auctions. . .

BIAFRA is a dead dream . . .

Ojukwu your leader is dead and would be buried by the same side that defeated him in 1969. . . .

Shortly afterward, a detachment of soldiers led by Captain Emmanuel Nwobosi arrived at Akintola’s residence. Upon sighting the soldiers, Akintola opened fire – lightly wounding a few of them including Capt Nwobosi. After bravely fighting for his life and engaging the soldiers in a gunfight, Akintola was shot dead by Nwobosi and his men.


That is what the Premier of the western Region did when he was faced by bloodthirsty soldiers from a particular group. He did not run to Abidjan

By 1970 THE WAR WAS LOST and Ojukwu had fled and you want to us to believe that this was an improvement to 1966 when thousands were killed in the North

You say that they were challenged in committing killings and then we are told they killed millions during the war.

So in your analysis the millions of lives lost were "WORTH"  the 1970 outcome!

country "widely accepted"? Maybe to the ibos who stood to gain more from it.

He Ojukwu sent his people back to the north after getting "assurance" from Gowon that, they will be protected even though he like other observers of events unfolding then can tell that Gowon had no control over the murderous northern officers like MM, Ibb, Buhari, Abacha, et al who were still baying for ibo blood. And so ojukwu sent the ibos back to the north and as expected by all discerning minds, they were slaughtered like ramadan goats, second time around. It was after this second wave of killings that Ojukwu made that famous speech i.e "once you cross this line, you are home and free".

And lastly, yeah Gowon might have been a junior officer to Ojukwu but nevertheless they were both Lt. Cols, prior to the events that culminated in the civil war.

If you realized July 29, 1966 coup led by Gowon was an unsuccessful one, you would begin to understand the genesis of Nigeria/Biafra war.

More than 3000 youths from the Niger Delta, South East and the Middle Belt yesterday stormed the residence of departed Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on a special condolence visit and procession just as former Niger Delta warlord, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, declared that Ojukwu’s struggle for Biafra was right.

The group under the aegis of the Coalition of Nations and Organizations of Nigeria was billed to hold an all-night meeting at the national secretariat of Ohaneze Ndigbo in their resolve to effect a re-union of the ethnic nationalities.

Speaking when the youths paid a condolence on Lady Bianca Ojukwu, Dokubo-Asari recalled how many of his family members were killed and massacred for their support for Biafra.

Said Dokubo-Asari: “Today, if anything will stir me to fight, it is my belief that Biafra was right. When I was growing up, we were told a lot of things to hate Biafra. Maybe some of us were persuaded. But the more I grow up, the more I realize that it was the greatest mistake we made for not allowing Biafra to stand,

“You might not feel the pain that I feel, but if an Igbo man does not feel the pain that I feel, I am sorry for him. If an Urhobo man doesn’t feel the pain, I am sorry for him.“What Ojukwu lived and died for, in the coming years, we will see it with our eyes because of the arrogance of a few people that were born to rule, and everybody accepts it. When you want to talk they say leave them alone. Why should I leave them? If you don’t bend your back, nobody will ride you.

“For the first time in history, the divide and rule tactics of those who have kept us down failed and the Igbo voted more for President Jonathan than the people of the South-South.“Our gathering today is to bring the gathering of the dispossessed and oppressed people of the Middle Belt, Ndigbo people and the people of the Niger Delta together and we are going to move like a force. “Let nobody be apologetic. What we want is political power. Political power is the key to our development and our dignity, and political power we must own come 2015. If President Jonathan says he is not contesting, we must hold on to the presidency. Either an Igbo man takes it or someone from the Middle Belt, we will continue to hold it.”
