Russia cannot touch their main stockpile of weapon because they need to be on guard. They have to resupply very well and get back in the war. Russia can fight this war forever as long as it's economy remains intact and a few countries ready to help.

They can't fight the war forever. Apart from lost equipment, are Russians ready to continually Bury their precious sons. Over 60k Russians are now either dead or seriously wounded.

By next year, the west would have perfected ability to give Ukraine far greater military capability, including NASAMS, Patriot batteries, Iris batteries, F16s, maybe ATACMS and more GMLS rockets. The first batch of Ukrainian trained fighters are now returning from the west to fight Russia.

The west is able to wait out this war. It would only cost them money, nothing else. Lastly, the west has the option of cashing in $300Bill of Russian assets to pay for its foolery in Ukraine.

Yes, because Ukraine is the victim. Russia is the aggressor.

It doesn't matter where Russia get weapons from anyway. If they can't win with their high tech Iskander, Kalibr etc it won't be outdated weapons from the 60s that would change the game....

The Chairman of the Nigerian Universities Ranking Advisory Committee (NURAC), Prof. Peter Okebukola has commended the performance of Nigerian universities in the Times Higher Education 2023 Subject Rankings released on Oct. 25.

This is contained in a statement issued by Okebukola in Abuja on Wednesday.

Okebukola, who is also a member of the international advisory board of Times Higher Education World University rankings, said that in the 2022 rankings, only five Nigerian universities featured in four subjects.

He said that in the 2023 ranking, 48 Nigerian universities were cumulatively listed among the world’s best in 11 subjects/disciplines.

He listed the subjects/discipline as arts and humanities; business and economics; education; law; social sciences; computer science; engineering; clinical and health; life sciences; physical sciences and psychology.

“Noteworthy is the impressive ranking of Covenant University, the only private university in the league tables, featuring prominently in business and economics, social sciences, computer science, engineering, and physical sciences.

“No state university is on the league tables. The federal universities with impressive rankings are University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.

” Others are the University of Ilorin, Obafemi Awolowo University, Federal University of Technology Akure, Bayero University Kano, and University of Benin,” he said.

“Professor Rasheed is one individual who will not rest until the old glory of Nigerian universities is fully restored”, Okebukola noted.

“We assure Nigerians that with the ongoing implementation of the Blueprint for the Rapid Revitalisation of University Education in Nigeria, the days of consigning Nigerian universities to the group of non-performers will soon be over,” he said. (NAN).

Foreign Affairs / Australia No Longer Recognise Jerusalem As Capital Of Israel. by HigherEd: 10:04am On Oct 19, 2022
Australia no longer recognises West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reversing the policy adopted by former prime minister Scott Morrison’s government.

In 2018, a year after US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in defiance of international law, Morrison suggested he was “open minded” to follow suit.

The government later decided not to move its embassy until a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine, but that it would recognise West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong confirmed on Tuesday that the decision had been reversed.

“I regret that Mr Morrison’s decision to play politics resulted in Australia’s shifting position, and the distress these shifts have caused to many people in the Australian community who care deeply about this issue.”

Wong said the Labor government “recommits Australia to international efforts in the responsible pursuit towards a just and enduring two-state solution”.

“We will not support an approach that undermines this prospect.”

Israel's foreign ministry condemned the decision, and said it would summon the Australian ambassador.

“Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years and will continue to be the State of Israel's eternal and united capital, regardless of this-or-that decision,” it said in a statement.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki meanwhile told Reuters the decision was “a correction of a mistake made by the previous government.”

He called on Australia to now “move to the more important step, and that is recognising the state of Palestine in light of its commitment to the two-state solution”.

Deleted sentences
In recent days, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade removed references of its recognition of West Jerusalem as the Israeli capital from its website, as first reported by the Guardian.

Liz Truss moving UK embassy to Jerusalem would be disastrous
Read More »
The deleted sentences read: “Consistent with this longstanding policy, in December 2018, Australia recognised West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, being the seat of the Knesset and many of the institutions of the Israeli government.

“Australia looks forward to moving its embassy to West Jerusalem when practical in support of, and after the final status determination of, a two-state solution.”

The update was made following the Guardian’s request for comment on the matter.

The Australian Labor Party, which has been in government since June, said in 2018 that it “does not support unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and in government would reverse this decision”.

However the now deleted references to West Jerusalem remained on the website until last week.

“The Australian government continues to consider the final status of Jerusalem as a matter to be resolved as part of any peace negotiations,” a foreign affairs ministry spokesperson said.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid criticised the policy reversal, describing it as a "hasty" response to media reports.

“In light of the way this decision was made in Australia, as a hasty response to an incorrect report in the media, we can only hope that the Australian government manages other matters more seriously and professionally,” he said on Twitter.

“Jerusalem is the eternal and united capital of Israel and nothing will ever change that.”

In 1967, Israel occupied and annexed the eastern part of the city of Jerusalem, which the Palestinians claim as the capital of a future state, in a move that has never been recognised by the international community or international law.

Last month, British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her intention to explore moving the British embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The review has been widely criticised by UK opposition parties, United Nations experts, and senior Muslim and Christian religious figures.

What many don't realise is that, current weapons given to Ukriane are "NATO lite". The only serious thing NATO has given Ukraine is the HIMARS with GMLS missiles. If Russia continue to tow the path of madness, the US can give Ukraine an entire stockpile of ATACMS missiles that can reach deep into Russia, Tomahawk cruise missiles. F16 fighter jets, Abrams Tanks. In an extreme situation of Putin using Nuclear weapons, US can turn Ukraine into a nuclear powered nation in a matter of weeks.

Ukrainian forces encircle nearly 5,000 Russian troops in Lyman, official says Ukrainian army blocks almost all ways of leaving, transporting ammunition to Russians, says Serhiy

KYIV, Ukraine

Thousands of Russian soldiers are encircled by Ukrainian forces in Lyman city in the Donetsk region, a Ukrainian official said on Saturday.

“Nearly 5,000 Russian soldiers ended up in '#Lyman Cauldron'," Serhiy Hayday, the governor of the Luhansk regional administration, said on Twitter.

The Ukrainian forces have “blocked almost all the ways of leaving and transporting ammunition to Russians,” Hayday said.

"After the de-occupation of Liman, #Luhansk region is the next," he added.

Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesman for the eastern group of Ukrainian armed forces, said that Ukrainian troops have taken back the control of Yampil, Novoselivka, Shandryholove, Drobysheve and Stavky settlements near Lyman.

Ukrainian army’s advance toward Lyman city continues. The city has been under the control of Russian forces for a long time.

On Friday, Cherevaty said that the encirclement of Russian troops in Lyman is at the completion stage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday announced the annexation of four Ukrainian regions.

On Sept. 23 - 27, the Ukrainian separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk and Russian-controlled parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson held referendums on joining Russia.

The referendums have been condemned by the international community, with European nations and the US calling them a "sham" and saying that they will not be recognized.

Zelensky has no idea what he wants...same person asking Israel to be the mediator, still asking Israel to choose a side and send arms.

Yea Israel has some of the brutally realistic and practical foreign policies on earth. They are surrounded by enemies and don't want to complicate their matter by making more powerful enemies. They do not live under the impression that the US would come and rescue them when the consequences begin. This is why they abandoned Armenia too when it was being pummeled by Azerbaijan.

Israel may need to advance a land attack against Iran some day and the only realistic way that happens is though Azerbaijan border with Iran. And to keep that remote possibility alive Israel refused to help Armenia.

Russia is next door to Israel through its presence in Syria. If it goes to supply weapons to Ukraine, you may have Russia no longer permitting Israel access to Syrian airspace. Thus limiting Israel ability to strike Iranian proxies.

The Ukrainians were not wise, they ought to have pursued buying critical national defense assets years ago.

BTW the Israelis would not sell the Iron dome, but could have sold Spyder AA system. Though I believe what the Ukrainians need mostly would be David Sling which possess stunner interceptors that can go as fast as Mach 7.5 - which is super fast and can shoot nearly any kind of missile fired by Russia.

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine: Zelensky Begs Israeli Government For Iron Dome by HigherEd: 8:58pm On Mar 21, 2022
Ukrainian president Vlodomyr Zelensky on Sunday pleaded with over 100 members of the Israeli government for the country's defense support, while also calling them out for not sanctioning Russia like many other nations have, The Jerusalem Post reported.

"Why has Israel refrained from sanctions on Russia?" the president asked during the Zoom meeting. "Israel needs to give answers to these questions, and after that, live with them."

Zelensky then called on Israel to provide his country with some of its proficient defense technology, specifically mentioning the "Iron Dome" anti-missile defense system, which he lauded as the best system of its kind in the entire world.

"We are turning to you and asking whether it is better to provide help or mediation without choosing a side," he said. "I will let you decide the answer to the question, but I do want to point out that indifference kills."

The Jerusalem Post reported that some within the Israeli government were taken aback by Zelensky's critical tone during the meeting. Nonetheless, the country does not plan to change course and provide weapons or other equipment to Ukraine.

Israel also intends to continue acting as a mediator between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has been in contact with Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, passing messages between both parties in an effort to reach a peaceful resolution.

Newsweek reached out to Prime Minister Bennett's office for a comment on this story.

Despite these good intentions, Zelensky continued to criticize Israel for not taking a firmer stance against Russia. "Why are you busy with calculations?" he asked. "Mediating without taking sides? You can mediate—but not between good and evil."

While Israel may not be budging from its current course of action, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid still offered praise for Zelensky following the meeting and said in a statement: "We will continue to help the Ukrainian people as much as we can and never turn our back to people who suffer from war."

During the speech, Zelensky raised the ire of some by comparing the invasion of Ukraine to the Holocaust, claiming that Russia aims to destroy the Ukrainian people just as Nazi Germany aimed to destroy the Jewish people in Europe.

"His criticism of Israel was legitimate, as was his raising expectations of us, but not his infuriating and ridiculous comparison to the Holocaust and his attempt to rewrite history and to erase the role of the Ukrainian people in the attempts to exterminate the Jewish people," Religious Zionist Party leader Bezalel Smotrich told The Jerusalem Post in a statement.

Well good. In air to air combat Russia can't stand a chance with NATO. The Israelis made this pretty clear during the war of attrition where USSR airforce in Egypt repeatedly attacked Israel.

When the Israelis got pissed, they squared of with USSR directly in air to air combat. If I'm not mistakened the Israelis shot down about 20 USSR jets using their American made jets while USSR could only down 2 Israeli jets.

So it's clear the West has a higher command for air power.

This is where the West gets it wrong. A war with Russia will quickly devolve into a nuclear war because Russia cannot afford a conventional war with 30 countries. Meaning the moment Russia feels it is losing a war, it has a possiblilty of going nuclear depending on how crazy their president would be.

Therefore the focus for most of these western countries should be to work on nuclear detterence. SAM platforms that can intercept icbm still in their space trajectory of their flight.

The Israelis know this is the real threat and they've made progress with Arrow3. West should be doing same.
