The aim should be reducing unemployment not competing as you see it
No one creates a company to reduce unemployment. No one... The purpose of a company isn't to generate jobs but to solve a problem and pay the owners.
Companies only recruit people in the journey to fulfill that purpose.

So employment is merely a byproduct of individual or corporate vision. That is why, when a company is distressed it sacks workers to save itself.

Oyedepo is a pastor who has a vision. He can only create employment in line with his vision. Anything else would be lack of focus and direction. He has spent thousands of hours studying on how to become an 'A' pastor not an 'A' entrepreneur.
It's like saying dangote should challenge Microsoft because he has money. Dangote would be ruined if he tries it because he doesn't have the mental capacity for such.

Creating a university alone took Oyedepo many months because he had to study many models. Send teams on study mission etc. And that's why he succeeded. Mind you, his venture into education has shifted his attention away from church, no matter how little.

Visionaries and people serious with life don't cross carpet anyhow. They face one thing only! You won't see Bill gates building refinery because it is good money. What it takes to be successful in church leadership is different from what it takes to succeed in business. Though there are some overlaps.

Wow..nice one..I also think churches should start building companies too at least unemployment rate will be reduced..
So the church can start competing with her members that own businesses?

There are too many people who already have companies. Has your govt made it easy for them to run those businesses.
Let's start by asking govt to create conducive environment for business. Only then would companies thrive.

History Behind The Project

The money for the Ark was fully raised in 2016 after the church raised money from her members and non members across the globe specifically for the project. The project was initially christened Faith Theatre and was intended to be built on 1000 acres of land behind Covenant University.

The project couldn't take off as Bishop Oyedepo said God had not permitted him to proceed with the project.
The money remained with the church.

However, Bishop Oyedepo says he now has conviction and direction to go ahead with the project. Consequently, Faith academy was demolished alongside the church's Institute and camp house. The name of the facility now christened "The Ark" instead of Faith Theatre.

Faith academy was then relocated behind Covenant university giving room for the new construction.

The stadium like facility was designed by Covenant University Department Of Architecture and would be built by a Nigerian engineering firm - Laralek Engineering.

The commissioning for the project happened in the early hours of today and construction has commenced this afternoon.

Good News!

The Ark will specifically take 106,000 seats and will include a 24 Floor Mission Tower (International Headquarters Facility) made up of 2 pairs of 12 floors each.

It is to be built on the site of the old Faith Academy adjoining Faith Tabernacle which will now become its overflow facility. Faith Tabernacle and Faith Academy’s Foundation Laying both took place on 29th August 1998 and both projects lasted one year with the 50,000 capacity Faith Tabernacle project commencing on 18th September 1998 and dedicated on 18th September 1999.

According to Bishop Oyedepo, not one dime of the money contributed to this project since 2015 has been touched and the Church has maintained strict budgeting and never going out of her budget. ‘Right now’ says Bishop Oyedepo ‘ it doesn’t feel like what we are building (the Ark Project) is up to a bungalow’.

Continuing the announcement by the Church-Members of the Church especially Pastors, Deacons, Deaconesses, Heads of various units who are able to make it are required to be present for this Prophetic Event.
Everyone that sees the take off of this Project shall live to see its completion in his or her multiplied state in the name of Jesus Christ.

This is the height of religious intolerance at its peak. It beats my imagination that Muslim pupils cannot wear headscarves in a state funded schools? How did we get to this stage if I may ask? How is Hijab-wearing by few muslim pupils an islamization agenda? This is preposterous and insanely absurd. We have always lived together in harmony in South West until the advent of the so called men of God and Islamic fanatics who find relish in this absurdity. When will Nigeria move out of this religious cocoons? Oduduwa nation my foot!
That is not just the issues. Would the Muslims allow Christian fellowships in their schools.
When you have sorted that, then you can come and talk.

Why can't Muslims contribute money to build their own schools?...
Why would one of the two largest religions in Nigeria want to be benefitting off others as though it was a minority group... If islam was a minority group capable of being oppressed, I would have asked that the church let this matter rest.
It's like saying a staff of dangote cement has the right to be wearing Bua cement uniform inside dangote property.

Imagine a school like Landmark university in Kwara - just look at that beautiful school, fantastic road network and buildings with consistent electricity and zero input from govt. All built with over 15 billion naira solely from Christian people.

Instead of the Muslims to start funding theirs to match at par with Landmark, they won't.

Example, Christians are on number 40th university since privatization in 1999, Muslims are on number 5 since God knows when. Later they would be looking for govt to take over All those schools and want to wear hijab there. Knowing fully well Christians own 95% of religious founded schools.

Stop islamizing our church schools or public schools (which are meant to be secular).
If you want to challenge Christianity then collect license like everyone else.. Stop using government and sham judgements as a tool to compete. Fin.

Religion / Kwara Hijab Controversy: Bishop Oyedepo Tells Muslims To Build Their Own Schools by HigherEd: 1:54pm On Mar 25, 2021
Founder of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has advised Muslims to leave Kwara schools for their various owners.

He said they should look for hijab-wearing schools their children can attend.

The Nation had reported that 10 schools were shut down by the Kwara State Government in February over the crisis on the wearing of Hijab (Islamic headscarf) by Muslim female students.

But according to reports, the schools resumed on Monday.

Last week, students and teachers entered the school with violent resistance especially at Baptist Secondary School, Surulere and Cherubim and Seraphim College, Sabo-Oke in Ilorin where Christians and Muslims clashed.

Speaking on the situation in a viral video obtained by The Nation, Oyedepo said: “It is such a nasty development in Kwara state where Muslims are asking their students in our schools to wear Hijab, and the church said “no”

“I have never seen a place in my life where a tenant will be decreeing for the landlord…you know the reason why? We have never shown the world the other side of God.

“God is not a toy. Our God is a consuming fire, let us show them the consuming fire of God, they need to know.

“Leave the schools for the owners, go to your schools, is there any fight? Stop putting fingers in the eyes of others.

“The church is a time-bomb when God turns his back on anybody or any system, that system is grounded.”

“My advice is, leave the schools for the owners, find your schools…men and women can wear hijab there.. Stop putting your fingers in the eyes of others when they are not blind.

Disappointed in the level of education in Nigeria that nobody asked how many people total are in the top 2%. The top 2% may be made of 71,000 people for all we know, at which point having 71 people in the top 2% is not impressive.

There are hundreds of thousands of academics in this world so don't be surprised if the number I mentioned is not far from the truth.

Edited - as suspected, there are over 48,000 in that list of top 2% academics, and there are only 71 Nigerians there. That is a shameful stat relative to our population as a percentage of World population

Actually there are 150,000 in total 2%. What you cited was for a program.

Truly, Nigeria's showing was poor. But Ghana had it worse with only 4 making the list.

Thinking about this.

Without any grant church schools are flying high.
Kwara should give churches back her schools. We don't need your grant and we would still outperform all your grant funded public schools.

Nigeria as a country didn't perform exceptionally.

The top 2% represents 159, 683 academics. Nigeria having only 71 is quite poor.

Ghana on the other hand had only 4 academics on the list, which was nothing but shameless.

Yes, Landmark in particular being a university founded in 2011 with just 21 departments is very impressive.

The university has surpassed Abuad, Babcock, Redeemers to sit on number two private university in Nigeria (webometrics). The university is growing fast and noticeably.

Bad idea. You don't determine price for private sector.

You only need to open the sector for competition and price would push down.

Business / How Paystack Returned More Money To Investors Than Amazon And Other Us Companies by HigherEd: 7:58am On Feb 22, 2021
If you were to invest $100,000 into both Paystack and Amazon in 2016, you would have made $1.4 000 000 (1400% Return On Investment) and $499 000 (499% RoI) respectively from both two companies.

If you choose to invest in Apple (436% RoI), Facebook (142% RoI), Netflix (470%), Google class A (188%), Microsoft (369% RoI).

A notable US company investment that surpasses return on investment than Paystack would have been Tesla which returned a whooping 1951% RoI as at 7:15am February 22, 2021.

The reward for believing in Paystack – the very first ycombinator bet in Nigeria has excited the investor community so much, leaving many VC firms vowing to look more into Nigeria.

I would like to note some of the reasons Paystack succeeded wildly within just five years.

Paystack got extremely plugged to Silicon Valley

Paystack, Flutterwave, Bamboo, HeliumHealth, Cowrywise, RelianceHMO etc are all companies founded by young Nigerians but headquartered in the USA. In fact majority of those companies have their offices in San Francisco as a C-Delaware corporation. The US incorporated company gives trust to foreign led investors as to the safety of their investments and puts legal conflicts within a jurisdiction investors believe there would be fair play. The US companies are then made to hold the Nigerian company as a fully owned subsidiary.

Paystack Modelled Stripe

Paystack found a US model and replicated their tested design and business model in Nigeria. Prior to Paystack, you require a N150, 000 to integrate a payment gateway on your website in Nigeria if using In___Sw___. Paystack broke this model and offered zero fee integration, while crashing commission to 1.5% + N100 with a N2000 capped fee, above which it would not charge.

Cared Less About Founder Equity

One of the reasons many Nigerian companies fail very early is principal founder obsession with equity. Obsession over owning majority ownership makes your African entrepreneurial journey very long. If you are too equity focused, you would spend too much time bootstrapping insufficient capital than finding investors who align with your goal and infuse capital into your business rather than trying to start a startup with loans that have abominable interest rates.

The Dangote's, Adenuga's hold 80-99% of their enterprises. I believe new founders shouldn't do this. Partner with others and build a company that can outlast you.

The second aspect to this is, if you are too equity focused you would burn a lot of money trying to recruit a staff you can't afford. Rather than making such a staff a Cofounder with sizeable equity too.
(NB: I know I haven't done justice on this equity issue as a cause of business failure. Some day I would do an indepth talk on this)

Treated Employees Wonderfully

The report we have from Paystack is how they treat workers exceptional well. I once had a reason to consider working for Paystack. I was excited to learn I would get a Mac book pro and many other goodies. This would have enabled them to retain only the very best of engineers.

There are many other reasons Paystack succeeded, but mehn I’m running late. Chao and see you guys later.

So yesterday I heard someone say they 1440% return on investment on Paystack.
So I quickly jumped into my investment app to make a RoI comparison with Amazon a behemoth business.

It turns out Amazon had 499% return on investment over last five years while Paystack had an incredible 1440%.

Kudos once again to the Paystack team.
