Education / Private Universities Produce Students With Empty Brains - Plateau ASUU Chairman by HigherEd: 10:37am On Feb 05, 2021
Universities do not produce high quality graduates despite the exorbitant fees they receive in tuition from students, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Plateau State, Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, said on Thursday in Jos.

Mr. Maigoro, speaking to NAN on the newly approved private universities decried low academic standards in most of the existing private universities in the country and urged the new ones to live up to expectations. He said they must ensure quality and good academic standards in their operations.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday granted approval to 20 new private universities in the country.

The chairman also bemoaned the alarming rate of poor quality graduates he alleged the private universities are churning out annually.

“It is actually good to have private universities that have standard and quality, unfortunately, most of the existing ones are nothing to write home about,” he said scathingly. “Most at times, they push out people with empty brains as graduates; these graduates hardly contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the society.

Mr. Maigoro called on the federal government and relevant agencies to intensify monitoring mechanisms to set high standards.

He further advised the new institutions to charge moderate school fees in order to accommodate children of both the rich and the poor in the society.

“In any case, the essence of having private universities is to reduce pressure on public universities.

“But you discover that the exorbitant fees they charge still don’t address the problem. Many people can’t cope with the high charges.

“So, even with the large number of privately owned universities in the country, their enrollment rate is just ten percent. Public universities still have pressure,” he said.

The ASUU chairman also called on the government at all levels to ensure proper funding of public universities to improve standards.

NAN reports that the newly approved private universities include; Topfaith University, Mkpatak, Thomas Adewumi University, Oko-Irese, Maranathan University, Mgbidi, Ave Maria University, Piyanko, Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, and Mudiame University, Irrua.

Also approved are; Havilla University, Nde-Ikom, Claretian University of Nigeria, Nekede, NOK University, Kachia, Karl-Kumm University, Vom, James Hope University, Lagos, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria,Kano, Capital City University, Kano, and Ahman Pategi University, Pategi,

Others include; University of Offa, Offa, Mewar University, Masaka, Edusoko University, Bida, Philomath University, Kuje, Khadija University, Majia, and Anan University, Kwall,

Politics / Re: Why Southern Nigeria Needs A Single Political Party - Opinion by HigherEd: 11:13am On Feb 04, 2021
internationalman:
The south is more divided than the whole Nigeria is divided..

That's why the North keeps ruling because they are United..
Not really.

I would say something you should take note when dealing with politics.

People don't matter as much as figures do in political calculations.

Example. You say Igbos and Yoruba hate themselves abi?
But in truth Igbos and Yoruba can share certain mutual values even when they dislike themselves.
1) They both don't want Fulani to kill their farmers and steal their lands.
2) They both want religion to play moderate influence in national politics. Etc.

Both Igbos and Yoruba actually know the north is using their head to play tennis but groan about it separately.

What you need isn't the people to unite. No.

For a moment, imagine a Kanu and this Igboho guy signed an accord to work together on a mutual agenda. What do you think would think happens with their followers? They would all fall in line.
Politics / Re: Why Southern Nigeria Needs A Single Political Party - Opinion by HigherEd: 10:46am On Feb 04, 2021
Let me make something abundantly clear.

Initiatives like Amotekun, ESN, Youth Democratic Parties are very temporal solutions that won't stand the test of time.

The core North was simply shocked about the rise of these security outfits. But they would respond to it in time.
The earlier we give the north far bigger credit for being outstanding politicians the sooner we begin to play high powered politics of our own.

The people clamoring for secession under the Kanu and Igboho movements are political amateurs.

Look at the map of Nigeria again, look at where all the income comes from - Crude oil, VAT, CIT, Customs revenue. Look at the ability to trade via the sea in favor of the south, look at the lopsided human resources in favor of the south.
Nothing favors the north if they allow anyone secede.
The north would rather fight an 100 year war and lose half her population than let anyone in the south go

Ask yourself, do you want Onitsha, Port harcourt or Ogbomoso to be on fire. Would you be consoled knowing Kano too is on fire? Due to years of investment in education, the south is closer to an economic run if certain conditions are twitched in the federal system. Do you really want to go to war?

Therefore the solution is to take control of this union.
Politics / Why Southern Nigeria Needs A Single Political Party - Opinion by HigherEd: 10:43am On Feb 04, 2021
It appears to me that the solution to the problem of Nigeria is restructuring. However, if this is not possible in the short term, then southerners need to reorganize and improve their politics.

Force the country into a two party ideological system by spinning off a southern middle belt party (SMBP) or give it a less conspicuous name like the Liberal Progressive Party. This would represent everything the south and much of north central wants within the federal system - security, fiscal federalism, state police?, freedom of and from religion, free speech, private sector driven economic progress etc - we don't have to agree on everything just like the democrats in the US don't agree on everything.

In practice, this means the entire South West, South South, South East current major political players from APC, APGA and PDP would need to merge together into one political party. The moment the coalition can deliver the presidency to the total exclusion of the North West, then we have saved Nigeria.

The north would be forced to spin off a united political party to counter the south. But it won't mean much if we can get the Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Abuja on board, and get greater control on who the president would be. Thereby battling NASS to a standstill until all our agenda passes.

This means the coalition must work towards getting 75% of votes for the SMBP (or LPP) across all southern states, and have 50-55% of Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Abuja in a national election to elect the president, even when the entirety of the North west and some states in the North East and Central votes in an opposing 98% for their own candidates.

If we can do this, then the ideology of the south would prevail in determining who becomes president for a very long time. Fringe elements like Elrufai and Yerima would never smell the presidency for the next fifty years.

Until the three political zones down south can fuse into one strong political structure the northern oligarchy would keep playing tennis with our heads.

Unlike the education you got, I got a private University education, Covenant University to be exact and we were not train to look for jobs to create jobs. Even if you see a CU student working for a company he is either gathering funds to start up or he is already running his company on a low.
I have never dropped my CV any where for a job and I guess by Gods grace its too late for that.
This your job seeking mentality is what is killing the country. The American government never built America individuals like Ford and like built America.
The companies you searching for job to are not owned by fellow human. Difference is they sacrificed their time and money to build.
So while most of you young people are thinking of how to get money for Valentine the young man who will employ your kids tomorrow is busy looking for money to start up or exand his company....

Thank you. People don't understand.

Just to clarify. When a school is independently owned but funded by endowment or charity, it can be called a public school.. Salvation ministries now has about two free schools.

The Church's "fee for service" private school is called Chokmah International School - a separate ultra modern school located in Port harcourt

GOOD NEWS.

PASTOR IBIYEOMIE DONATES SCHOOL
-Robinson K

Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries has today donated yet another world class Nursery and Primary School for public use in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This School is to run under his direct supervision and he is also responsible for the salaries and welfare of the teachers and non academic staff.

This is just one out of the many charity programs running into billions that he engages in annually. May GOD bless Pastor David Ibiyeomie and the brains behind the successful construction and completion of this gigantic project.

The Church of GOD WILL continue to meet the needs of the people both Spiritually and Physically, just as the Kingdom of GOD is one and there is no competition in it.

Considering the current Covid19 increased virulence and the obvious lack of a vaccine in Nigeria. it might be a good idea for students of social sciences, education, business and commerce, law etc to go back home in a bid to depopulate the Universities.

The reason is majority of these programmes can be conveniently taught online. As a matter of fact, the recent zoom update is quite better improved to support teaching. E.g a large class of students can now breakout into different breakout sessions therefore improving the experience.

The only students that should be retained in school at this moment in my opinion should be those of the science and technology, medicine and surgical departments who need to use laboratories and can't simulate such an educational experience online.

As I said, your education is subpar, if it wasn't you would have been taught in basic economics that people just don't pull up pricing from their arses, but do so as a result of cost of production. This is why many of you are unemployable. Go and do research you won't do. How much is the budget of Covenant and divide it per the number of students they have, and maybe your lifeless brain would receive life.

Let me help you a little. The cost of production (annual expenditure) for Covenant is 7 billion naira per annum according to stears.ng. They have 7,000 students. Now do the math.

But let me still help you again. The answer is N1, 000,000. This means covenant spends 1 million to educate one student. Which means it is not a profitable venture yet, as the school fees hovers around N900,000 - N1.100,000 per annum.

Xi JinPing seems to me to be the Chinese leader entrusted with the responsibility of unifying Taiwan, Hong Kong and China under a strong mainland rule. The way he's going, It's starting to look like that decision has already been made and they are just waiting for the best time to strike. The Hong Kong hullabaloo to me is just like testing waters.. The west didn't react as vociferously as one would have expected to save democratic Hong Kong from total control of the mainland.. The mainland Chinese have a very high nationalistic quotent and are really afraid of nobody except the Americans and maybe the Russians. To most of them, the Hong kongg and Taiwan episodes are some sort of national humiliations that need to be rectified! And the unification of Taiwan with mainland China will be a huge event for any Chinese leader.

Macau is back in the fold, Hong Kong is back to the fold, most part of China Sea is almost being controlled by mainland China, they are grabbing enough land from India! Taiwan is the missing part in the jigsaw! Xi is a hard man whose father operated with Mao! So he's like the original communist, not the pro capitalists like Hu JingTao and Deng Xiaoping who really craved for a peaceful relations with the west.. I also think that the Communist politiburu in Beijing are of the view that the Americans may not come out in full force to defend Taiwan. So it's now a question of factoring when the whole exercise won't destabilize world trade and alliances because Taiwan itself in military terms is a sitting duck when compared to the mainland..
Taiwan should have developed nuclear weapons back in the day. Nuclear weapon is the only deterrent against a foe like China.

Ass for Europe and US, none of them would lift a finger for war if Taiwan is invaded. They would only condemn and perhaps do slight sanction in which China would retaliate.

It totally depends on the University in context.

I'm not saying nobody should hype his church Schools. Not at all. Infact, the online hyping have really been helpful in jerking up covenant university stats in many online ranking that deals with positive mentions.

But when the deal becomes real, we know where to find the real universities. You can call Covenant University the best in Africa as much as you want. But when it's time for a World Bank research funding, they surely will not jump ABU, OAU, UI, UNN, and the likes for that "we are the best in the world" university. Keep shouting "we are the best in the world" until your students start crying after their certificate is bounced by a university even in India citing reasons that "they are not a recognized university."

I know universities (private ones) whose system and output are very much higher than the covenant University's. Let me even list them: ABTI, AAUN, Turkish Nile University, etc. But because bthey don't have church members shouting everywhere no one is giving them the rank.

Let's all chill. When we want girlfriends, we go for Cynthia, Melinda, Candace, Jane, etc. But when we want wives, we go for Chioma, Ngozi, Ekaete, Elizabeth, etc.

If you ever see Cynthia in a serious man's house, know that it was a happenstance. If you ever see a covenant university graduate working in a multinational, then know that his papa get Yello leg. But for every private university graduate you see working in a multinational, there are more than a thousand of his peers from public institutions who are there.
Lmao you know nothing about the University system. Turkish Nile ko Chicken Nile ni grin

Of what use is it when we continue to spend trillions on things that would perish and find it difficult to spend a penny on a needful widow or orphan.

Some people's version of Christianity continues to amaze me. Build it up to the height of Kilimanjaro, it love and compassion isn't the fabric of an institution, everything done is pure activity. We know Christian leaders we celebrate, we k ow the ones we just that k God for and just walk away

Education is an investment that can not perish. Nigeria needs a private sector driven educational sector that can develop well rounded individuals especially as the public sector is burdened with economic problems. Therefore unlike Venezuela, if govt revenues crashes out for a decade we still have top rate schools that would survive and ensure our social service fate isn't intertwined with aso rock.

With schools like Faith academy, Ambassador college, Chokmah springing up in several places with sustainable business models, the nation is on her way out of misery.

Stop thinking like an Almajiri, division of wealth isn't sustainable where poverty abounds. Where poor people outnumber middle income people on 7:3, what you need isn't to share the little that is available but for those who know how to multiply it to do so. When Jesus got the loaves and fishes, he multiplied it before it was worth sharing. If Jesus gives you a seed, would you plant it or give it away? Think about your answer. The scripture talks about the talent and how Jesus values multiplication of seed. In this case, the seed of money to educate a people in a sustainable manner.

Now, we need to create more platforms that create wealth into the future. Which is better? give a widow money for bread or give her employment and dignity of labor? This school would employ out of the tons of people who studied education and create decent income for their families. It would keep money in our economy, increase our gdp per education and plant the seed of quality education in our children.

The old faith academy is to be demolished alongside numerous other buildings to construct the Church's new hundred thousand seater auditorium named "The Ark".

With this new construction, the living Faith would have three academic campuses within her facility. It is unclear where exactly this new campus is being put up as the church has an excess of five thousand hectares of land in her land bank.
