Stephen0mozzy:Let me give you a chance to learn UI/UX, check my posts and send me a message if you want. |
chariisGRACE:Get you started on what exactly? UI/UX? Any laptop that can use chrome can do it, but the higher the better... |
nabeelbabs:That’s not true, Apple laptop is good for design, I design, my friend uses Apple for video editing, until you try any Apple product, you won’t know it’s capabilities. Thanks for the correction chief. |
Favinzo:Don’t send any email to anyone, take the advice that suits your current lane and discard others, you are on the best lane so far, don’t allow anyone cow you into programming or web development, having a background in graphics design and moving on to 3D animation is a great idea. My advice, the laptop you will be needing for 3D animation costs between 500 to 900k naira, that’s mostly helian ware or whatever it’s called with graphics card, but other low budget ones can still do it sha but would be very slow. Whatever you do, if you can’t buy a good helium ware laptop, any laptop you want to buy for less than 400k naira, make sure it’s apple, Reason, it has second hand value, has better durability. Also, you idea to start a YouTube channel is commendable, I know a 3D designer who creates scenes with 3D animation on YouTube with his channel and he gets hundreds of thousands of views. Summary; be focused man, you are on the right track, don’t take any advice aside from this things you listed, the metavers is coming and 3D animation and design is a billion dollar industry, programming is already crowded, except for web3. Hello guys! It is no longer news, more like a reality the harsh economic situation Nigeria, Africa and the world at large is witnessing as a result of the pandemic. This economic difficulties appear solely in the form of inflation, Nigeria for instance, according to Nairametrics, an online website, Nigeria inflation is currently at 15.99 percent, an average of 2.4 percent increase from 2020 to 2021. These details reveal how much difficulty the world is facing especially developing countries like Nigeria, on this premise, I beg to suggest to you ways to improve yourself in these trying times. Follow projection: There is a lot of negative projection against 2022, it seems the pandemic is far from over from the discovery of the new corona variant, ‘Omicron’. This means there is probably going to be lockdown, international flight bans, limitations to importations and all. All of which is going to show negatively in the economy and affect the average man in the streets negatively. Working with projection helps you prepare for the worst, if it happens, you would have prepared for it, if it doesn’t, you have nothing to lose. I saw a thread on this forum where someone asked how people are preparing for the removal of subsidy and many were of the opinion that the government cannot remove subsidy a year to election, he even used the word and I quote, “ No sane government will remove subsidy a year to election “ Well, it’s pathetic he still thinks this government is sane, there might not be removal of subsidy, but there will be a pms increase and if you work with projection, you won’t have to wail when it happens. Increase your sources of income: This is the best way to ensure you are not very much affected by the negative and harsh economic situations come next year, there are businesses which are greatly affected by the pandemic and those include almost all physical businesses. I bet you that Seun, the owner of this great forum didn’t suffer the pandemic that much. What this means is that most businesses built online were not affected and that should be where every positive minded person should concentrate on. I have a japa plan but with the way the pandemic is positioning , I have decided to add content creation (youtube) to my hustle. well, I’m a product designer and a self thought flutter developer. With this I’m looking out for myself against 2022. Purge yourself of expensive lifestyle: This is the part where you try to examine your expenditures, what are the things you spend money on that need urgent attention? Drinking, clubbing, smoking and mobile data, etc. In my own case, I spend 4K naira to buy fuel for my generator twice a week which is a total of 16k a month, I spend 20k on Data every month and about 30k on feeding, 30k goes home for family support, no transportation and I work from home. Well, I have decided to get the MTN yellow box, that way I have something to charge my phone and laptop, that way, I just subscribe it 7k every month, as for data, I have uninstalled Tiktok, was never on Facebook, uninstalled my Snapchat, unfollowed most people on IG, that way it will reduce the number of contents I view. This is a fight against economic hardship, dynamism is part of life, don’t allow yourself to be caught in the wild fire. Do you know that if you work and earn 200k in the current Nigeria, it will take you 5 years to gather 12 million naira, assuming you don’t buy anything at all which is very impossible and with inflation rising every minute, it will take you more years. So if you are a young man hustling to buy a car, equip your apartments and get married, you should be planning against 6 to 8 to 10 years or never if you are not dynamic. How have you been coping with the economic hardship guys? Please suggest ways to self improvement you know or have adopted against this trying time. |
emmybliz:yes, very sure, first step is to head over to YouTube and watch videos, know the right questions to ask YouTube and you will get the right answers. |
Bapy:Of course I believe they are good, so far it’s physical, don’t accept virtual, you can do it yourself if it’s virtual. |
PennywysCares:Are you supposed to be a front end or backend developer? |
Uchasa:You don't know that Enugu airport serves Ebonyi, Abia and Anambra, can you compare the population to pH that serves only pH alone or sometimes Bayelsa? |
mrvitalis:His people requested, his people told you or sent you to go tell him? Tafia |
ChasinGood:Start from YouTube first, then Udemy is the next stop, good luck. |
Rgade:Chief, everything about Nigeria employers is very off, that's why remote job or freelancing is the best bet for UX designers, Nigeria employers want to eat their cake and have it. |
Ridwanacole:Chief, how is the journey so far? Well, you are right about learning additional skills, on my own part, I'm already deep into web and I intend to scale it to mobile all front end, then backend and Blockchain, well, it's a life time career so it won't all happen over night. |
timi4mayo:What exactly do you want to learn? |
timi4mayo:Sorry, I don't have time, but if you start on your own, I could guide you. |
When Nigerians hear salary, they will start asking your skills, after that everyone will go and rest until the next question with huge salary pops up and they start asking again. They are never ready to put in the work, IT is not your mate, you could spend six months learning and you won't see 1 naira. All they want is a get rich quick scheme, someone is even asking how fast he could learn any IT skill. I volunteered to teach some people UX design skills last time here, some people came live on my zoom and were asking me if I'm the teacher, like I looked too young to teach you what you don't know. |
chariisGRACE:Hello chief, UX/UI design is a soft skill just like other skills. UX skills involve: User experience design. User interface design. Usability and testing skill. User research skill. Interaction design. Incase you don't understand any of the over listed, you just have to Google each word to get an answer. Overview: According to Quora, UX design services concern understanding the user's journey, needs, and requirements and converting it into a product. It starts with a problem and ends on a prototype. A UX designer focuses on understanding the target audience, asking relevant questions to the customers, defining the user flows followed by user testing to cover and fix all the glitches and flaws in the website design. UI design services focus on all the visual designing elements for the website. It includes typography, graphic elements, images, videos, color theory, layout, etc. It mainly concerns giving an attractive representation to the website to attract many possible eyes. In summary, UI is the graphics, elements and buttons visible on a website or app while UX is the feeling users get when they navigate a website or app. Well, these two are the most popular of the skills in UX/UI design. Getting started: materials and sources can be gotten from YouTube and Udemy, when I started, YouTube was my first landing page but then I felt something was amiss, I bought a course on Udemy and some hidden materials and links were part of it. Any laptop can do as the softwares you need are mostly web based and not installation based. Figma, Adobe XD, sketch, prototype.io are the most popular of the softwares, they perform the same function but some employers prefer some based on reasons known to them. But be assured that figma and Adobe XD are the most popular and figma has a collaboration support for multiple people working on same project. Pros: you will have to sit for longer hours trying to join elements and buttons together to create a meaning. You should learn how to combine different primary colours to create amazing colours. Typography is something you need to give serious attention. Give or take, 3 months of constant practice of say 6 to 7 hours a week should get you started, depending on your level of comprehension, for me, it took less. You will need time and patience to build your portfolio. Advice: Twitter is your best bet to network with fellow junior designers. Dribble and Behance are place you would see beautiful designs you can try to redesign during your learning period. Don't forget to network. Let's talk about pay, according to online sources like glass door, a UX designer salary is about 60 to 70k USD per anum, but that's if you are able to get a remote job, for beginners, you could get a 70k naira job and above for a start and scale it from there. Also, you could network with developers and they would give you jobs when ever they get an offer to develop a website or app. Note: I'm not talking about nairaland WordPress developers or the " I will design a website for you for 20k naira" crew. Shalom. |
VicUkegbu:You are on the right track sir, I wanted to learn programming at first, but decided to start with UI/UX. With a dedicated 2 months plus of daily practice, I got my self brushed up and I have never been more proud of myself. Just like everyother skill, nothing is easy, Twitter is the most accurate place to get a job if you can grasp the concept of web design(UI/UX). Enough said, you are on the right track. |
To our senior and junior UI/UX designers, please drop your comments and contributions here, how is the journey so far? To our amiable developers, feel free to contact anyone here for partnership or employment. To anyone intending to dive into UI/UX design, feel free to, the time is not late. A dedicated time and resources can make the year fulfilling for you as you may have acquired a new skill. Modified: There is this misuse of web design by most of our developers or so, so many articles on the internet, especially Quora point to the fact that a web designer is actually a user experience and user interface designer but most developers on nairaland and Nigeria tend to call themselves web designers especially those CMS users. Please I would like someone to expatiate on this, is there something I'm missing? |
Samuelmide69:So chief, we would like to know how you managed to get in even with the flight restrictions et Al. How many days did you stay in quarantine? What's the cost of quarantine? Is there a special program for people getting in this period amidst COVID 19 ? What are the rules or guidelines towards getting in this period? We learnt some districts or states are not fully open for movement, how true is that? Are schools fully open? Any preference or rule towards fully vaccinated and non vaccinated travellers? |
WhyNa:Well, shouldn't there be a range for us to see, like it varies from a number to a number. Please have they started accepting applications for visa processing? We have wait tire |
lizychimamanda:You are blessed babe, should I send a Dm? You are what I pray to have. |
