@op please for your information, the surviving part of the old temple does not have any ark of covenant. It was destroyed or taken away by the Romans after the death of Jesus around 70AD. The muslim also invaded Jerusalem and turned the temple into the second most important mosque in the islamic world. |
If there were already court cases up to the supreme court involving this land in the 1970's then there should be no need for any more trouble. The winner of the court case then is the owner of the land. There is also a process of how a King is crowned with respect to approval by the state government, you dont just wake up and make yourself a king. That is an illegal act. For peace to reign, let the status quo remains. odigbosky: |
We need to educate ourselves. This is not a case of fake egg but unhealthy egg. Possibly it has expired. There is difference between fake and expired thing. How much will take to make a fake egg that has almost the same features of a normal egg compared to eggs from poultry? |
It is not a Yoruba tradition for the groom to buy clothes for the in laws, however some families do make such demands. The common thing is for the couple to get such clothings for the parents on the 2 sides out of their own volition but not forced. I did not expect my retired in laws and parents to be able to buy their own clothings, so it was factored to be part of our expenses,. Likewise when my siblings got married. Your friend is likely seen as a jackpot. As you stated they also demanded some other things. God help him. |
Every town has its own perculiarity and history. Comparison of Abeokuta with Ibadan in terms of number of kings does not hold water. Abeokuta is a commonwealth of Egba, Owu, Yewa, Ijaiye and other people. Ake, Owu, Ibara and Ijaiye were towns on their own likewise Oke - Ona and Gbagura also had many towns and villages back then These people took refuge from war at different time in history in Abeokuta. Abeokuta kings were beaded kings for many generations before migrating to the current site now called Abeokuta today. Ibadan was part of Egba old location before they were pushed to Abeokuta. Ibadan was a war camp and was ruled in succession by the war lords who were Magajis of their family. This history of having various strong warlords made Ibadan to refuse monarch system .Baale of Ibadan was a subject of Alaafin as at then. Olubadan was given beaded crown around 1940's in order to be in tune with reality of time. Olubadan cannot be a Baale when Ibadan was the biggest city in Africa then. The high chiefs have been classified as 2nd class rulers for a long time but now conferred with crowns but now as 2nd class kings. Every king has his own domain but this newly elevated kings will be ruling over their family except the Baales who were in charge of various villages. There is a need for Ibadan kingship to be decentralised but this recent development seems to be full of errors. The Nigerian kings in general are more or less a conduit for unnecessary expenditures. What is their function in a democratic setting? Every king should take of himself not constituting unnecessary burden to the people. |
It is a good thing to help the needy in our society but this so called theibadanproject is a celebration of mediocrity. This is a poorly conceived concept, one touch publicity stunt, insultive stomach infrastructure project. You dont go around sharing cooked rice packs to few beggars under mokola flyover or Sabo and call it Ibadan project. If you want to do a real Ibadanproject, go to the inner city areas like Beere, Foko, Oja Oba, Ojoo etc, do a feasibilty and need based studies of the communities. Then execute a lasting project that you can afford and will go a long way to benefit the community. Please re-strategize and make it better. |

Thank God for the recovery. Similar thing almost happened in 2002 in my church in Kaduna and people were warned not give strangers lift from the church. There is need to be extra careful. I only carry people that i know or old people. |
8BitGee:Epe has 2 sections not 2 tribes. The Ijebu Epe and Eko Epe. The Eko Epe people were those who followed Oba Kosoko of Lagos to Epe when he was on exile there in the 1800's. |
Being a Data Analyst is a big deal in an academic and research environment. As already stated by others, you can fit into any organisation that appreciate research and development. However, learning SPSS is just 0.1% of what it takes to be an expert. Organisations use variety of packages eg STATA, SAS,Epiinfo,R etc. You need to show case some formal or professional qualifications such as in statistics or data related courses in order to get most top notch jobs or else you may just be a small fish in the field. |

The reality is that Chi Onwurah is a British politician but cannot erase the fact that her father is a Nigerian and she lived for some years in Awka before relocating to UK. She also worked at a time in Nigeria. It is her choice not to relate with Nigeria possibly in order not to jeopadise her chances as a labour shadow minister. Many British-Nigerians have openly identified themselves with Nigeria but politics is a different ball game. Whatever the case, the British media would remind her of her Nigerian background when she is in trouble with them. |

Olorogun title among the Yoruba groups means Olori Ogun (war commander) or Ologun (warrior). Olorogun are war chiefs. Every Yoruba chief is referred to as Oloye while Olorogun are just a class of chiefs. |
A good and inspiring story, however, Adebisi Idikan is not the first Ibadan entreprenuer. Generations before him people like Efunsetan Aniwura etc were already big business guru. Efunsetan was a big supplier of ammunitions to the Ibadan war lords and these were imported goods. Adebisi father was said to have migrated from Efon Alaaye in the present day Ekiti State not Ondo as stated in the write up. |
I decided not to waste my time listening to any interview. I respected and followed the progress and messages of many so called men of God for decades but the happenings in recent time has made me to change my approach. Many secrets are been revealed. Pastor Adelaja had similar case of sexual harrassment and inappropriate relationships with some ladies in his Ukraine church few years ago. He was told to step down by some of the church board but he refused because the majority supported him. Only God knows if he is innocent or not. Virtually all church disciplines workers by suspension when found guilty but the set man is untouchtable and is only acountable to GOD. Hypocripsy of the highest order. The ministry is their empire and CEO cannot be punished. By their fruits we shall know them. |
I believe the pastor can have a one to one discussion with her , talk to her about the issue and correct her if possible .. invite her her to church to be ministered to. Kemi is perceived as someone unstable or with mental health issues and always believe she is fine. She seems to me as someone with no friends and sees the social media as a way of communicating with people or getting attention. She has spoken against her own father , talked about her own son possessing a gun , all sorts. They are so many people like her out there , that needs to be counselled , showed love and delivered. Locking her up wont change anything , she will come out and do the same thing again. It,s all happening in her head and thinks she is a journalist . She has no sound mind. People like her are not worth punishing . She has lot of issues with herself and everybody. She needs help. who and Where does she gets her information from?? People might be using her and giving her information knowing she will spill it out to the public. Not worth fighting with .. If Pastor is truly honest and nothing to hide .... He can pray, counsel her and bring her close to God, assign people to visit talk and pray with her . He should not see her as a challenge but an opportunity to win her to Christ and change her life. God is able and can touch her. [/quot You are very right and on point. This is what i have been thinking about after reading about Kemi's issue. Having known her for some years i do not need any psychiarist's or psychologist's assessment to tell me about her state of mind. This woman is not stable and needs help. Do you send such person to jail or for treatment? What this woman published did not originated from but a third party. If the magistrate threw out the case for whatever reasons why the rearrest? For show of power by a pastor or his church members? No one can tell me that the police is not influenced by someone? Enough of all the preachings it is by our fruits that we shall be known. Why using hand cuffs on her and circulating the pictures? What i see in the kingdom today is opposite of what the fathers of faith taught and practised. |
BlueRayDick:I think the VC clarifications disappointed lot of people who wanted Dino nailed. The reality is that Dino has skeletons in his cupboard. Absence of Dino's name on ABU alumni site is not a justification to say he did not graduate from ABU. As an ABU alumnus,Dino's case made me checked my record and that of my course mates unfortunately I discovered many mistakes. Some names were missing, wrong spellings and wrong year of graduation. Our system has lot of problems. I know friends who could not get a complete transcripts in ABU years after graduation and were told they did not pass some courses. Let the court decide his case if people are satisfy with ABU VC clarification. |
Strahovski1:This doesnt sound like a married Nigerian man.You sounds a superman who can never stray and that is why i doubt your so called married man status. It seems you do not understand the meaning of divorce and the effects on all the parties. Marriage is not a bed of roses but for better and for worse. Was the man violent? Caught sleeping around? What are the evidences for the court to grant divorce. You just dont advocate for divorce without full details and counselling. This family can still work things out. |
Pidgin2:What of the bishops and popes who always cap. What is the reason for their cap wearing? I have seen many traditional rulers in the catholic church who wear their caps during mass. |
Hello Africa- Eddy Grant was the signal tune for VOA Africa for decades. Eddy Grant most popular song in Lagos\Ibadan in the 80s was a yoruba song, about love and looking for his lover -dont know title. Agolo - Angelique Kidjo was the signal tune for BBC outlook "Ori ori o Olajumoke lo" Mori Kante - Yeke yeke was a daily dose on NTA Magic System Ghaou adaptation by Tope Alabi into Yoruba gospel made her popular back then |
@Naptu2.Lovely combination. The songs took me down the memory lane of life. Most of the oldies were regular on NTA and radio stations especially the night jamz on radio in the 1980s & 1990s before the advent of private stations. I came across many of these on youtube. I am not very conversant with the acceptability of the new generation African songs in Nigeria since i am out of the country. Another popular one was Awilo Longomba - Carolina |
AreaFada2:@AreaFada I checked and found some of Prof Ezeibe's online. The one on the trial is an open access paper. We need to celebrate and encourage our own but with undeniable proofs. Publication of paper does not make a claim infalliable. There are many predatory journals that publishes without peer review. I am involved with drug and vaccine development outside Nigeria. There are procedures and processes to be followed. Currently there are many antiretrovirals under development and in use that will reduce viral load to undetectable level but that does not mean cure because the virus starts replicating after sometime as seen in the "Mississipi baby" few years ago. The findings cannot be termed a cure if during the trial they did not check for the virus in the bone marrow and lymph nodes or long term safety profile. The trial result that i saw showed only few months follow up and only 10 volunteers. That is just a pilot study. It can only qualify as a trial if it is a rare disease. Many pilot studies then to have encouraging results but the main trials were stopped because of safety issues. These are what the other researchers look out for if you claim to have a positive outcome. There has been cases of drug discoveries over the years which turned out to be more of harm than benefit. The case of Abalaka 20 years ago is still fresh on our mind. His drug makes the virus to be undetectable to rapid test but still positive to PCR. As at that time there was no PCR machine in Nigeria. I have met some people he treated then, they are still HIV positive after paying huge sum. Did the Prof trial got approval from all the constituted authorities in Nigeria? Are there are independent validators? My conclusion is that the study is just a pilot one that needs to be encouraged and upscaled for a bigger trial. However Nigeria should not throw the baby out with the bath water. Many are dying round the world from HIV but the high wire politics and greed of the pharmaceutical world is overwhelming. |
The issue of grade or class of degree depends on the university system. Most Nigerian medical colleges follow the British system where all you need is to have 50% in all your courses but can get distinctions that is above 70% in individual courses. The American system is course credit unit system of having different classes. This young Doc seems to have obtained 7 distinctions in all his medical courses which is a rare feat. It is normally people having 2 or 3 distinctions. His certificate will still read PASS with 7 distinctions not first class or 2:1. Wish him the best. A successful medic is not in high grade but impact on patients. |
HungerBAD:His father is Itsekiri and that accounts for his names. He identify more with his mother's ethnic group which is Urhobo. |
He's had 2 wives. His first wife Mee mofe damijo died & so he married jumobi some years after. His older children are those from his 1st wife.[/quot You are wrong. There was no child between him and MEE his first wife. RMD had 2 boys early in life before his first marriage while MEE also had a girl from earlier relationship. This lady is likely MEE's daughter. |
africanusvu:. He left because of the civil war on transfer and completed his first degree at unilag |
mcocolok:I checked the Sapele Anglican crisis online and discovered it has been on for years. What i am reading here shows there is no difference in the way both the old and new churches taxed their pastors and members to support the leaders lifestyles, not different from the Nigerian police - roadblocks money. The funds been requested from the headquarters or diosease are outrageous in most of the churches. Some pastors and elders have to commit all their incomes to fulfill these unending requirements. Lots of disguisting financial malpractises. Where are the money for welfare of the needy? Every denomination is now building university, big auditorium, on ego tripping etc. The clergy has become blind and they are leading the blind. Will Jesus meet faith? God have mercy |
EVILFOREST:For your information the church in question is an Anglican church. There is no religious organisation that is 100% free of corrupt practises just that the older orthodox denominations have better accountability than the president and founder ones. I have seen it all. |
Ademola Lookman is an English man with Nigerian parents. He is presently with the English under 19 team. May decide later to play for Nigeria as the like of Victor Moses did even after playing for England. I do not know much about his family background but if he has similar story like that of Dele Alli and the Fashanus who were abandoned by their Nigerian fathers then he is likely to stick with England. So far Nigeria has enough of Nigerian born footballers and do not need all these foreign born 2nd or 3rd generation Nigerians.May be in case of basketball we need the foreign support. The constitution recognises them as Nigerians since their grand parents are Nigerians. |
james_ibor: My bag has been opened and ransacked at heathrow several times and on p w occasion, the stench from my ogiri became another issue. In recent years the practice is to have you baggage go through scanners. For those who know the rules, there are items you must not put in your hand luggage but allowed in your other luggages not meant for the cabin eg drinks, sharp objects, fluids, perfume etc There are other items you need to declare like certain food items, fire arms, special medications etc. Some will be specially packaged for you. If you do not follow all these procedures and your bag passes through the scanners, you will be made to open the bag and it will be searched. The last time I opened my bag for search outside Nigeria was in 2010. In Lagos just few months ago a whole 150 passengers while standing on queue for 3 hours each person with 2 to 5 bags had our bags opened one by one. For God sake how much does it cost to get scanners. Port health agencies will rubbish the yellow card obtained in an authentic centre with all your receipt to show and make you pay another money to get another card and not give the yellow fever vaccine. NDLEA will subject you to inhuman treatment simply because you are going on holidays. Immigration will claim your passport features are not showing on their system and you need to see their boss. same passport that was issued by them, that has been used in airports round the world I tire for my countri. |
