Pink!:Yes we should be reasonable in our assessment and how we make comments. I have had the privilege of at least using the first 3 airports in Europe, Asia and Africa in the last 2 years without having to pay for trolley. I was shocked when I was told to pay to use trolley at Abuja airport, don't know of MMIA because I always travel light whenever I am passing through Lagos However, I stopped using the toilets and wait till I get on board when I was told to pay for tissue paper 2 years ago. Then why is bulk of the airfare which is airport tax and yet we have to pay for all these basic things? The rot did not start from this government but lots has been written about the great work of the current team but I will say what I saw recently is a worsening situation. |
billante: Omojuwa is a complete yoruba boy!For your information , Omojuwa is not Yoruba but .Edo. Don't let us turn this to tribal war but face reality on ground. |
Some experts believed that high content of plant hormone phytoestrogen in yam and cassava is more likely to be responsible for the release of 2 or more eggs on monthly basis during menstrual cycle. However, there is really no strong scientific evidence to support this claim. Okro and Agida (a vegetable) also have high level of phytoestrogen. All these are consumed on daily basis by the Yorubas. The yam species regularly consumed by the Yorubas contain Diosgenin which can be used to commercially produce Progesterone and other hormones same as a wild yam known as Mexico yam which was used to produce hormones in the 1960s. However diosgenin can't be converted to estrogen in the human body after consumption. Genetic predisposition has a stronger association than dietary link. Many tribes and groups in Nigeria do also consume yam but do not have as much twinning rates as the Yorubas. For epidemiologists who may be interested in this study, Yoruba women in diaspora who are not consuming yam will serve as a control for this research. |
joeydozzy: Medicine after death? You know how much their bis was before the slash? They were the second network to slash theirs actually. They just went further with thisGlo should not expect any rush since the package is not going to work on android. Airtel has been able to improve its market by making the bis package work on android for about 2 years in running while others refused to do so. |
donchris33: I have problem with people like you. People like you are more deadly than judas iscariot. I would gladly accept judas iscariot as a friend than a snake like you. What is the f...k Stella have to do with this. I don't know what is wrong with you. Have I had any issue with you or anyone on Stella or any other case. Was my comment in support of APC or PDP or your regular tribal rantings on Nairaland or any of my post supporting Sahara reporters. To me SR is a junk and if Vanguard wants to join them I won't hesitate to call the journalist so and you can do your worst if you are the reporter. Must I believe everything I read in the dailies and online especially when they go against the constitution. Did you bother to read my comment to the end before rushing in your kill and go rage to type a snake and judas village story. If you have problem understanding simple thing ,then you can follow your friend Judas to his final resting place in hell. Did I not call the whole story a total rubbish if it is really true and the end of Amosun in Ogun? So why attacking me?Must everyone who does not come hard on APC or outrightly against APC, a yoruba or anti PDP or against your tribe? Do u know my political affliation, ethnicity, my stand on Stella issue? If Stella is innocent she will be vindicated and her accusers shamed. It seems any mentioning of Tinubu gives some people uncontrollable rage. Was I praising or supporting Tinubu in my comment?Simply because I didn't call him Tinubu like you guys call him , I should be likened to your village snake. I hope you did comprehension in high school and got good grade in it. A good student would have understood me better than you did. I was just telling you guys to be objective and understand the difference between elected and appointed officials. My understanding of the directive is for commissioners, advisers and other civil servants. I initially thought it was the poster that wrote the name of the speaker but later discovered it was the reporter and I have modified that part. It is a pity NL is now Naija village of commotion where anything goes in the name of infantile excesses, tribal and religious sentiments. |
The journalist is just misleading the pack. Where was it written that the legislature was among. I thought many of us claim to be educated. For the so called educated and learned Nairaland commentators to have equate public servants / civil servants to the legislature is rather a wonder but can blame them because anything goes in Naija. The house of assembly is another arm of the government which cannot be muzzled by the executive. they are elected officials and not appointed or civil servants. It is only the legislature that can gag themselves, although this can be done indirectly by the exco especially since are all from same party and more or less selected by the godfathers, Jagaban Borgu and others. The exco have the perogative to give such directive to public servants, commissioners and other appointed officials. Do not just take everything hook, sink and line because it comes from a newspaper. There are many half baked journalists, junk newspapers and their ignorant followers. All the politicians in Nigeria are the same, I don't trust any of them. However if this so called rubbish is true ,I know the people of Ogun will not take it lying low and could be the beginning of the end for Amosun. They have mob action mentality , if you mess up your own don finish be that. Some of the elected local gov and legislators can hardly understand their responsibilities many are thugs and touts in suits and babanriga. |
tellwisdom: If fela never wore pant on stage. Then seun is not his true sonIt seems u people don't understand simple english. Have u ever seen Fela wearing only pants on stage? He wore pants around the house but not to perform on stage. So u guys know Fela than his son.! |
I think Osun defender reporter is being mischievious and giving a misleading information. Nwoye has not been declared PDP candidate but the Supreme court gave him chance to continue his case at the Appeal court. Anambra gov: S’Court refuses to stop appeal court from delivering judgment in Nwoye’s appeal The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, declined to stop the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt division from delivering judgment in the appeal brought by the disqualified candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Tony Nwoye, in the forthcoming governorship election. It will be recalled that the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had earlier voided the candidacy of Nwoye as the candidate of the party. The judgment of the high court was a result of a suit filed by another aspirant, Nicholas Ukachukwu. The court declared Ukachukwu as the authentic candidate of the party. Not satisfied with the judgment, Nwoye had approached the Court of Appeal challenging the decision of the lower court. The appeal court heard the matter and reserved judgment. However, Ukachukwu had through his counsel, J.B Daudu (SAN), approached the apex court seeking a stay of proceeding at the Court of Appeal. He also wants the apex court to disband the panel hearing the appeal on the grounds that he is not comfortable with the way the matter is being handled. But counsel for the PDP, J.K Gadzama (SAN) and counsel for Nwoye, Garuba Pul (SAN) opposed the application. In a short ruling delivered by the five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Walter Onoghen, the court held that the application to stay proceeding at the Court of Appeal could not be granted because in the face of the law, it is intended to arrest the judgment of the appellate court. The court further held that there is no law that allows anybody to arrest the judgment of the court, adding that judgment can only be appealed and not arrested. The court adjourned for a later date to give reasons for its judgment. Meanwhile, former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Maja Umeh, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plotting to subvert the governorship election in the state. Chief Umeh, who spoke to newsmen in Awka on Tuesday, said that unless the INEC chairman acted swiftly and stopped the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner from carrying out electoral fraud, the forthcoming November 16 governorship election in the state was doomed. Chief Umeh’s reaction was as a result of INEC’s distribution of voters registers to political parties in Awka, the Anambra State Capital. The former commissioner noted with dismay that INEC issued two voters registers to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while other political parties contesting the governorship election with PDP got one each. http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/24572-anambra-gov-s%E2%80%99court-refuses-to-stop-appeal-court-from-delivering-judgment-in-nwoye%E2%80%99s-appeal.html |
THE safety and well being of Nigerians living abroad, particularly African countries, was once again, called to question after the recent lynching of some Nigerians in Bissau, the capital of Guinea Bissau. Following the incident, which also saw an attack launched at the Nigerian Embassy in the volatile West African country, the Federal Executive Council during its routine weekly meeting, ordered an investigation into the incident. The Federal Government did the right thing in taking particular note of this incident and making it clear that the extra-judicial killing of any Nigerian in any part of the world, much less on African soil, is unacceptable to the government and people of Nigeria. We prevail on the Federal Government to follow up and ensure that law enforcement agents, who failed in their duties to protect the victims are brought to book and adequate recompense made. It is high time that fellow Africans were made to know, in no uncertain terms, that Nigeria takes the welfare of her citizens everywhere serious, and that every incident of victimisation of Nigerians will be accounted for. However, the greater homework to ensure that incidents of this nature are eliminated lies with Nigeria. The steep rise in crimes and immorality in Nigeria, which our media carry with glee to the rest of this world on a daily basis has given the citizens of this country a stigma that precedes them. The contents of our movie industry, which are very highly sought after in the world out there also play crucial roles in branding our people, especially the ordinary economic migrants in foreign lands. The upsurge in the violent crimes of kidnapping and child theft-for-profit has now added to the dubious rich profile of Nigerians hitherto known as fraudsters and drug pushers. When these things happen here we treat them with levity, unaware that our citizens outside our shores will be made to pay the price either because they export the crimes to other countries or they are simply innocent targets of the stigma arising thereof. This country has drifted for far too long. A country filled with milk and honey should be the target of migrants from other countries, rather than spew out economic refugees in such large numbers, who float to less fancied jurisdictions only to be demonised, dehumanised and victimised. A country, whose citizens are lightly lynched on the streets of foreign countries should get the message upfront, that it has lost all modicum of respect and fear. The impending national conference must explore ways to reposition Nigeria and make her work for her citizens. It is only then that foreign countries will have respect for this country enough to allow law enforcement agents to deal with any of its erring migrants according to the laws of the land. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/bissau-lynching-nigerians/#sthash.7OzNR8pT.dpuf |
lertee: Thanks.@ Lertee I have been reading your comments. It is obvious that your knowledge of Ilorin and Kwara is very limited for a so called Ilorin indigene as you want us to believe. You have been missing up facts here. For your information Kwara is not just Ilorin. Most purely Yoruba towns in Kwara will not follow Ilorin since they are always at logger head. Kwara has border with many SW states not just Oyo. Ofa, Igbominas, Kwara Ekitis will rather join SW where they will not be a minority. You need to take the map of Nigeria and see that Ilorin is surrounded by Yoruba towns and failure to join SW while other towns joined will let her an island. Get your fact right before posting comments. |
Oladiran: Pple always twist history as it pleases dem! It s not true dat 'yorubas' were never cooperating b4, yes dere were serious infightng but remeber,Ogedemgbe of Ijeshaland was trained by the Ibadans(Oyos) and they surely knew he was Ijesha as his tougue will always give him away, yet they trained him. When Ogedemgbe was to be sent away by the British, he was sent to an Oyo town and they did not mob him there, he lived there and returnd to Ilesha safely! Again, despite the rivalry between Ibadan and the Egbas, we all know that the Iyalode of Ibadan, Efunshetan Aniwura was an Egbawoman!@ Oladiran. You need to really understand the history and political intrigues of the Yoruba sub groups to be able to understand what Ommo was talking about. Some of the groups were allies and see themselves as cousins while others waged wars against each other and sell themselves off as slave. Egbas are made up of different groups and see Owus, Ijaiye as cousins, same as Ekitis and Ijeshas. Pre colonial yorubaland had lot of slave raiding activities and this often encourages wars and distrust among them. The examples you gave were that of Ibadan. Ibadan was a war camp made up of warriors from mainly Oyo , Ife, Egba and some other groups. Ibadan is a commonwealth of many yoruba war mercenaries and traders. They don't really care about where they get slaves and they subdued many other groups just as old Oyo Empire. Most Egbas left for Abeokuta with some like Efunseitan staying back. Ogedengbe was captured and was more or less a servant to the Ibadan warriors who eventually trained him and gave him tribal mark. He initially refused to fight against Ibadan during Kiriji war because of his earlier allegiance to them. If other major yoruba groups like Egbas, Ijesha, Ijebu , Ekiti etc had joined Ibadan to chase the fulanis beyond Ilorin, it would have been reclaimed but Ibadan was busy fighting on four fronts with others. The pre colonial Yorubas see themselves as Egbas , Ijebus, Oyos etc rather than one group. Others saw Oyo and later Ibadan as over lord and common enemies. |
@ All We all seems to be missing the point here. Ilorin is just a town in Kwara, the foremost town as it may be. But there are other big towns who are 100% Yoruba. Like someone says, Ilorin controls everyone else with the Emir and Saraki factors. If a free and fair referedum is done, other Yoruba towns will rather go with SW as they have been doing from pre colonial , 1st and 2nd republic. The Igbominas and Ofa will stay with SW. |
0monnakoda: The problem with the Oyo empire is that it was an empire which means that all those groups that it subdued are likely to strive for their independence when circumstances are favourable and that is exactly what happened to Oyo in the early 19th century. Ilorin that a lot of people talk about is populated to a significant extent by descendants of slaves from sevral places. Ilorin was a place where slaves could claim their freedom especially if they could fight. It was a garrison town and that is the context in which it broke away from Oyo many of the so called Fulani were mercenary soldiers who were often freed slaves. We must remember that The Nupe and Borgu bore the brunt of slave raiding by the Oyos.I agree with you on this. The original old Oyo was in the present Nupe/Borgu areas. Sango who was one of the most powerful Alafin is actually had a Nupe mother. Some of the Alafin possibly had Nupe connections. The Igunuko cult is of Nupe origin and it is practised by Yorubas with Nupe origin |
sheniqua: Ojukwu and Azikiwe did not have wives coming out after they died, please stop the liesFor your information, Ojukwu also had a love child unknown to his family. It is a personal thing , accepted more common with the Yorubas than others. Don't pass your comments ignorantly. The whole thing came out during his will reading in 2012. www.ynaija.com/my-fathers-love-child-was-a-hidden-agenda-for-the-north-debe-ojukwus-first-son/ |

dontjealousme: They had a divorce or their wife died, not marrying multiple women at the same time. Big difference. This is not a tribal thing. It may seems more pronounced among the Yorubas because polygamy is still well practised and women can have kids for the men without being properly married. However, I agreed on the fact that Yorubas are champions of unknown baby mamas surfacing during funerals. I actually know many popular men who had this issue at their death eg MKO Abiola, Prophet Akinde, Bola Ige, Art Alade etc. Like tpia mentioned, I think there is a link secret cult, wealth and power seeking in some of these cases. Most of the other southern tribes are mainly xtians and polygamy is not encouraged but that did not stop such from happening. A recent one was that of Ojukwu's daughter who was given his building in Kano. In the core north, polygamy is culturally and religiously accepted therefore no need to hide the women and their kids. Outside Naija many of our brothers are sowing wild oats about in order to get papers while their wives and family are not aware of these kids. It is a personal thing. |
RIP. This is pathetic. Can't the family and 3SC look for a good hospital in Ibadan to transfer him to. There are numerous hospitals that will look after him before UCH resumption. It is a known fact that most of the doctors in government hospital run or do private practice in private clinics. 3SC should have made such arrangement not just leaving the family to be carrying a terminally sick man on a long and tedious road journey to Kano. Was the family stubborn and decided to take him against medical advice? Possibly for spiritual or traditional care? I no understand this scenario. Abi na case of winch and the family spiritualist say make dem dey carry am come kano ? Kano to Ibadan is a whole day journey about 15hours. He eventually died in Ogbomosho which was just 2 hours from Ibadan. This shows he was in a very bad shape and shouldn't have been on that journey. At times the family members and club just mess up things just like in Rashid Yekini case. RIP Moses |
Autolord: His Royal Highness Prince Yilkyes Bala Tonglele PhD State Crown PrinceThis is a case Nigerian government through the High Commission should take serious. I stand to be corrected, these names do not sound Nigerian at all. Except Bala which is a common name in Northern Nigeria the other names are really foreign to Nigeria. Even the title as His Royal Highness Prince, the crown prince of 419. I suspect this guy is from a neighbouring country using Nigerian passport |
geeez: I always wonder why people do this on the street when they can walk into a pub, restaurant, hotel or filling stationYour post shows that you are not in Nigeria or Abuja. I do not support urinating in the public but we must answer these questions before blaming the guys. Where are the public toilets located? Do you know the cost of using them? How many private or public businesses will allow you to use their toilets even when you are a customer? Will you allow a total stranger to use your residence toilet? What is the state of the public toilet? Have you ever been seriously pressed in the public? If the local governments can't provide simple amenities such as public toilet, dust bin by the road side, pack refuse, potable water etc then no one should complain. What are the options for these guys? |
nagoma: In the early seventies ( 1972 I think) when the change occurred uniformity was being encouraged world wide. More countries were driving on the right hand side of the road except countries with British colonial background. Nigeria was ( and is) surrounded by countries with French colonial history who had always been driving on the right. ( Benin republic, Cameroon, Niger and chad) their drivers use our Nigerian ports and our drivers delivered goods to those countries with much confusion. It made much sense to make that change. America and Britain are simply proud and feel important so they refuse to change from their imperial systems. It is the same with metric system; only in America and UK do you hear of awkward measurements in miles, pounds ,stones , ounces and inches. It is not a must to give answers to what u don't know on Nairaland , rather keep quiet or do simple research by checking internet or asking elderly people around you about things like this instead of writing stupi..d comments. Our youths should learn to be sensible and responsible. Well done for posting the right reasons. My old man told me same thing decades ago. |
dapsonlou: Chiwetel is igbo, ofcos he can speak pidginHow are u sure he can speak pidgin. This is a guy who possibly has never been to Nigeria or even interact with the Nigerian bred guys leaving in UK. Chiwetel is a. Briton with Nigerian parentage. |
cold: Disturbingly, his “discoveries” have been backed by Dr. Henry Boyo at the Department of Physics at the University of Lagos. He said: “You can quote me anywhere, the guy’s concept is germane and has been scientifically proven to be trueI am not surprised about this information. I met some Nigerian lecturers who are doing their Phd in my institution and was shocked about their level of education and queried their Masters degree. These guys don't even know how to develop their research protocol and busy looking for contractors to do it for them just as they do back home. Some were doing wrong research for months. I kept on asking how do these guys teach in the higher institutions. Some just look for old projects and change title and name. Some years ago I asked my niece the title of her on going BSc project and she couldn't even remember. I got to know she just took her aunt old project and presented it as new How do you explain a prof calling press conference to announce findings some even write academic books and do launching as if it a political rally. I don't know what our lecturers do. You hardly see them at international conferences except those in diasopora. ASUU is just busy striking. I lost 2 years to this same strikes in the 90's and yet they are still there asking for money to do research which don't do |
I can see that many on Nairaland are really ignorant of what it entails to put forward a scientific research finding. Some of the comments here shows some of us are product of failed educational settings. What is in the Unilag rejoinder that is difficult to understand ? If you don't know what is been discussed then keep quiet. When did a newspaper became a peer reviewed journal or scientific conference for research presentation? Few months ago a Prof at Uniben claimed to have found cure for HIV/AIDS, and called a press conference, he has to apologize when he was queried for his folly action. If you really understand chemistry and physics, you will be appalled by this Unilag guy so called findings - an introductory technology magnetic experiment of primary /junior secondary school being showcased by a postgraduate student and claiming to have used to disproved homosexuality. Why do we celebrate mediocrity? Many people who understood research on Nairaland actually spoke against the report earlier in the week. You need to go on internet and see comments from the global scientific community blasting Nigeria, calling it a state with failed education country, which is the true state of things . Just because a f... lish old man and ignorant reporter decided to open our yansh in stuwpidity. The issue became a hot cake because of its homosexuality connection. Part of scientific research ethics is that you don't bring your prejuiced religious or sexuality into your research and produced a biased finding. Whoever is this guy supervisor who approved sure nonsense needs to be sanctioned for dragging Unilag and Nigeria on floor, this is not a local herbal medicine claims, this touches the international community. If you have anything against homo then don't drag others into it. |
shymexx: Who the hell is Dede Mabiaku? Is it the same senile Dede the Deridegull of nl?Yeah I think. Akinnuoye Agbaje may be a good take considering his past roles as a Naija man on international scene. All the same, I believe the production team know what they are looking for and who will best fit the roles. The production has a lot of Nigerian contribution unlike Fela on broadway. Producer and script writer are Nigerian but hope they still have the naija touch and the film will have the real shrine swag. Dede would have been the best for the original shrine swagger but for the international dimension for the lead actor. |

,I have passed through the three out of kwara before.
