THE National Chariman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said at the weekend that the Buhari administration inherited a corrupt subsidy regime run by corrupt cartels. He said, “oil cartels and their cronies resisting change have continued to blackmail and sabotage government’s effort on subsidy and availability of petroleum products” He spoke in his New Year message. This is even as he said the ruling party will deliver on its campaign promises, saying 2015 was a difficult year for Nigerians Odigie-Oyegun urged Nigerians to sustain the hope that brighter days are ahead of us, adding that even in the face of legion of challenges, the party has the courage and determination to rise up and meet them. “While 2015 was difficult for many Nigerians, we must also look back, with relief and a collective sense of jubilation, to the momentous opportunity it offered to the electorate to make the long-desired change of political leadership at the federal level and in many states. According to him, the presidential directive to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to adjust its pricing template to reflect competitive and market driven components should be supported. The review of PPPRA’s pricing template will result in a more efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and result in constant availability of fuel nation-wide. “It is also reassuring that Nigeria is winning the war against insurgency. With their welfare now taken care more seriously, the morale of our gallant troops in combat areas has been heightened. The international community is cooperating with Nigeria’s military offensives, including sharing of intelligence information, to end insurgency in Nigeria, as part of the efforts to combat global terrorism. “In spite of desperate and shameless attempts to discredit President Buhari’s anti-corruption efforts, the war against graft is being won. It is reassuring that the Federal Government has recovered huge sums from looters of our common wealth, which will be injected into the 2016 national budget. “The state of government infrastructure has improved. Electricity supply has improved in most parts of the country. Eleven years after the dismantling of toll gates on federal roads, the present administration has signalled its intention to reintroduce toll gates in a bid to generate revenue for road maintenance and in line with global best practice. https://www.today.ng/politics/61325/buhari-inherited-corrupt-subsidy-regime-oyegun?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigerian (IPMAN) has concluded arrangement with two British oil companies to build two modular refineries in Plateau State. The National Secretary of PMAN, Alhaji Danladi Pasali, who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday in Jos, said the decision was taken following the return of peace and the change in the political and economic atmosphere in the state. Pasali said, “We have concluded arrangement with two foreign firms from Britain, Blue Oil Company and Water Carbon Filed Energy to build two modular refineries. One refinery would be located in Plateau South while the other one would be built in Plateau North.” He said that following the approval of over 60 modular refineries in the country by President Muhammadu Buhari and the accommodative, peaceful as well as inclusive system of government demonstrated by the current administration in the state, the state would witness more and investors. Pasali noted that investors have been driven away from Plateau state in the past because of attitude of previous governments and the protracted communal crisis in state, “but the measures put in place by the present government has restored the confidence of investors and a lot of other investors would storm the state. President Buhari had within his first 100 days in office granted licences to Nigerian companies to construct modular refineries. Modular refineries are mini-refineries with capacities ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 barrels per day (bpd) which can be assembled and separated easily for enhanced performance and efficiency. The decision to award the licences may not be unconnected with his desire to see the increase in domestic refining capacity to meet local demand, thereby reducing huge import bills and addressing the perennial scarcity of petroleum products in the state and environs. The federal government had in 2002 granted 18 similar licences but only one of them had come on stream with just 1,000 bpd capacity. The refinery is operated by Niger Delta Petroleum Resources, NDPR, which produces only automotive gas oil (AGO) popularly called diesel. Ahmed Raji, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), over the weekend pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to allow all accused persons who have been granted court bail to go and enjoy their bail. Speaking to Daily Trust, Raji who is also defending the former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki said that he was too small to join words with the president. “On the isolated case of my client- Sambo Dasuki, I plead with the President to allow him to enjoy his bail. I am too small to join words with the president of the country, I will only plead that he allows him to go on bail,” he said. Raji who had secured bail for the former NSA in three different courts said “in law, we have judicial review of administrative actions. We don’t have executive review of judicial decisions. That is why I would beg the president to allow all those that have been granted bail to go and enjoy it,” he said. Igbo elites have maintained sealed lips over the ordeal of the agitator for a sovereign state of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, because they were never at any point consulted over his mission, an activist has said. “I think it's very wrong to involve the Igbo elites in Kanu's woes since they were not involved from the beginning,” said Mazi David Nonso Ifeanyi Ezedinma, National Coordinator of Igbos Diaspora Initiative for Buhari (IDIB), a pro- President Muhammadu Buhari group of Igbo. “The continued silence by Igbo elite is quite articulate; it speaks volume, saying the elites of the tribe won’t want to be dragged into what they have no idea about,” he said. Ezedinma who spoke with Daily Trust on phone today said that he is worried about the continuous impression of cowardice by Igbo elites, or of abandoning their own, as being created by some analysts, and explained that the elites will not abandon their own. He said the problem lies with Kanu’s handling of the issue of Igbo’s political status in Nigeria, explaining that an agitation for session cannot be an individual’s but the people of the tribe, which he emphasizes do not lack the intellectual capability to execute. “The Igbo as a people are a force to reckon with in Africa and the world at large. We have the intellectual capability to execute any agitation, as we have the numerical strength. The agitation for session cannot be an individual’s opinion as though the nation of Igbo people lacks nationalists,” he said, adding: “There is nothing wrong with any individual raising nationalistic conscience, but executing an agitation to support such nationalistic ideals for the Igbo has to start with consulting the elites for their opinion and support.” “We never knew there was anything like the agitation to create a sovereign state for a people scattered across the length and breadth of Nigeria. We only wok up a certain morning to read that a certain agitator for a sovereign state for us the Igbo, was on air the night before, making pronouncements for and on behalf of the Igbo. That is overzealousness.” “Kanu did not consult the Igbo leaders before embarking on this unsolicited liberation crusade .One thing I want you to understand from the continuous silence by Igbo elites is that Kanu and his co-travellers did not consult the Igbo leadership before embarking on this sensitive agenda .However, if the young man is remorseful for dragging the entire Igbo race into opprobrium, that's the only reason Igbo elites should consider and intercede. If Biafran agitators are demanding for increased federal government presence in the South East certainly, Ohaneze ndi-Igbo and other notable Igbo groups would have made strong demand for Kanu's release. But what did we have; a Kanu looking for heroism using the Igbo,” he said. The Bayelsa state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Seriake Dickson’s recent visit to the presidential villa, Aso Rock, was to beg President Muhammadu Buhari to join the APC. Despite recent political disagreements, Governor Dickson is known as a core loyalist of former president, Goodluck Jonathan The party’s allegation was made through the Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation (SICO), in a statement signed by its Director, Media and Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba. Egba who said the governor was at the seat of power without invitation, further said Dickson who sought to seek audience with Buhari, was also denied access to meet with the Chief of Staff to the federal government, Alhaji Abba Kyari. He said: “Our sources confirmed to us that Governor Dickson went to beg the presidency to forgive him over his derogatory and inflammatory statements during the election and to prevail on the APC candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, to soft pedal in Southern Ijaw LGA to enable him win the forthcoming rerun election in the area. “In return for that favour, the governor proposed to forment an artificial crisis in the PDP at the national level and use that as a basis to decamp from his party to the ruling APC. His argument was that he recognised the fact that Bayelsa state cannot afford to remain in opposition to the ruling party. “We know of a fact that this would be the second time Governor Seriake Dickson would be seeking to dump the PDP for the APC in the course of elections in thes. “The first time was in the heat of the National Assembly primaries of early last year when he sought to replace all serving National Assembly members from the State with his cronies against the wishes of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who wanted the performing ones to be returned. “On that occasion, he openly threatened both the former President and the PDP hierarchy of his readiness to decamp to the APC and using his past relationship with the APC National Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu to secure tickets for his preferred candidates, as well as himself to defeat the PDP at the polls. “Of course he got his way in that election with Dr. Jonathan despite sponsored verbal and media attacks against the former First Lady, Dame Patience. “But unfortunately for Mr. Dickson, the APC unlike his party, the PDP, will not fall for such cheap antics and the officials he met with, clearly told him there was no deal. He therefore, had to return home deflated and empty handed.” But in a swift reaction to Egba’s claims, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement signed by the Director, Restoration Campaign Organisation (RCO), Jonathan Obuebite, denied the allegation. He said: “Governor Dickson has no reason to defect to the APC in order to win an election that had ahead been won. We call on APC to accept the fact that they had lost this election. They have not only lost, they have also been roundly rejected by the people. No amount of propaganda, lies and deceit can change the outcome of an election that had already been won by the PDP.” Recall that the Bayelsa state governorship election was held on Saturday, December 5, but that of the Southern Ijaw region was nullified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the election was declared inconclusive. INEC said the election was nullified due to violence, abduction of electoral officials and ballot box snatching in the area. Results already announced indicates that Governor Dickson is leading in the poll. However, both Dickson and Sylva have been asking to be declared winner of the election by INEC. https://www.naij.com/684212-bayelsa-governor-seriake-dickson-moves-join-apc.html |
Moscow: It may be a little difficult to believe but Edward Snowden has claimed that Osama bin Laden was still alive. WorldNewDailyReport.com said that during an interview which he gave recently to Moscow Tribune, Snowden said that Osama was living in Bahamas and was still on the payroll of CIA. The report quotes him as saying - “I have documents showing that Bin Laden is still on the CIA’s payroll. He is still receiving more than $100,000 a month, which are being transferred through some front businesses and organizations, directly to his Nassau bank account. I am not certain where he is now, but in 2013, he was living quietly in his villa with five of his wives and many children. Snowden is at present a fugitive. He flee US after leaking documents about the NSA’s surveillance programs. The report also said that Snowden previously too made some unreported allegations about Osama Bin Laden Snowden goes on to say that CIA had orchestrated fake death of the former leader of al Qaeda. He claims that Osama was transported with his family in an unrevealed location in the Bahamas. The report further quotes him as follows - “Osama bin Laden was one of the CIA’s most efficient operatives for a long time. What kind of message would it send their other operatives if they were to let the SEALs kill him? They organized his fake death with the collaboration of the Pakistani Secret services, and he simply abandoned his cover. Since everyone believes he is dead, nobody’s looking for him, so it was pretty easy to disappear. Without the beard and the military jacket, nobody recognizes him.” Not only this, Snowden categorically states that he will talk about the documents which prove Laden is alive in book which is likely to be released in September. However, Snowden's claims have not been substantiated or confirmed by any other source. The US government has filed espionage charges against Snowden for revealing classified NSA documents to journalists. http://www.disclose.tv/news/osama_bin_laden_is_alive_staying_in_bahamas_claims_edward_snowden/121882 |
