OND was used in the 70's and later ND in 80's so not a mistake. Thank you. I am a PhD holder already. I never had Bachelors. so also Dimkpa who is overseas. So many liboratory technologist are outside doing their Higher Degrees. Nigerian Graduate are chasing shadows.

But we have Technical colleges awarding Diploma like the oversea High school. Our own National Diploma is what British Branded as HND. Nigerian HND has too much contact hours and work load to be called Middle level.
radeniran:
I attended a Polytechnic too but i want us to objective with our argument about scrapping Polytechnic don't we need Technical education in this country again or what?
so the polytechnic is not a technical school.
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by Hndholder(m): 2:35pm On Jun 26, 2007
radeniran:
I think all Polytechnic in the country should be re-accredited based on the new NBTE or NUC standard successful polytechnic will then be allowed to award BTech or converted to University
What ever, those that brought Polytechnics converted them to University. Harvard was a polytechnics. There will be no more polytechnic but University college of Technology for ND only.
radeniran:
Some courses got to be scrapped from the polytechnic like Legal Studies etc because the schools that offer such courses lack what it takes to offer such courses. If UI LASU and the likes can be stopped by NUC to produce graduate from their LAW faculty with their long standing history and pedigree in the education industry how much more glorified technical schools
It was further cleared that all those art course will not be in the New college of Technology

I attended the "GLORIFIED TECHNICAL SCHOOL" call polytechnic now a superior to those who attended the "almighty" University. Do not throw the baby with the water. It is not the school but the person.
Remember those with legal studies do not grow to be a lawyer. It is a way of fund raising in those school by running course with strange names. Of what use is legal studies or public admin in POLYTECHNICS?

What is your own opinion as regard the Changing only 2 polytechnic in the counytry to University do u think it solve the desrimination?
My opinion is that some state own Polytechnic like Calabar Polytechnic Now University of Science and Technology will follow.
We need the middle level man power and that is the ND not HND so More ND graduates are needed. Now non everybody want HND or Bsc. So The HND was treated as the  middle level. Once we have those universities in place the two City Universities will provide research level up to PhD for the HND and the New B.Tech.
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by Hndholder(m): 1:58pm On Jun 26, 2007
Thank you. some Universities do not merit a University. Do you know that some Federal university loan equipment from some polytechnic to meet NUC accreditations? Only two polytechnics had the privilege of the word change.

What is on the ground is cancellation of HND or let near-by University with adequate staff and tools take over the Former HND to be known as B.Tech. Majority of the University too are poorly funded. No university in Nigeria met the world rating.

We do not want HND in Nigeria because Nigerian hate Polytechnic and HND
EducationRe: "Give the Polytechnics a Chance", says UNILAG Professor by Hndholder(op): 11:26am On Jun 26, 2007
"This is attributed to the disparity and controversy between the HND and Bachelors degree, which resulted in many students opting for the university education, which is purely academic and theoretical as against polytechnic education which is practical and pragmatic."
EducationRe: "Give the Polytechnics a Chance", says UNILAG Professor by Hndholder(op): 11:19am On Jun 26, 2007
The lazy office type of engineer that believed in office work is not a university or polytechnic engineer, that is political engineer.
The University engineers are researchers, as well as the polytechnic but more into physical investigation and applications.
EducationRe: "Give the Polytechnics a Chance", says UNILAG Professor by Hndholder(op): 1:53pm On Jun 25, 2007
Section 6 of the National Policy on Education, listed the Polytechnics as one of the five types of technical education institutions outside the Universities which offer technical education. It further defined technical education as that aspect of education, which leads to the acquisition of practical and applied skills as well as basic scientific knowledge. The polytechnics that most of the adaptive researches, relevant to national aspirations for development were being carried out.  Over 75 percent of polytechnic lecturers are university graduates and are designated as lecturers, having the career path of becoming Chief Lecturer, Head of School, and Rector. Polytechnic graduates are called instructors and cannot attain any of these positions except they get additional University degree.
This discrimination is now more prevalent in the larger society where some government agencies and private companies have refused to employ polytechnic graduates because of an organization called the congregation or the convocation, to be a member of the congregation, you should be a graduate  (which is not a right of Polytechnics graduate) and by the interpretation of the graduate, you have to be a degree holder. Because of that in the appointment of, say the Engineering personnel some with HND who are very good with a n Msc degree is sill regarded as inferior, can not be place in the position even with COREN engineering Technologists Certificate, because if you do, you are no more qualified to be a member of the congregation. So such things are there.

Point of correction you had NATIONAL DIPLOMA     ND   NOT ORDINARY NATIONAL DIPLOMA  OND. And most of the lecturers Pass grade in their degrees. No good lecturer would wait to lecture at the polytechnic.
EducationRe: Should Nigerian Polytechnics Be Converted Into Universities? by Hndholder(m): 11:24am On Jun 25, 2007
The relegation of technical know-how in general manifests in many ways in Nigerian society.
Parents want their children to become doctors and lawyers but rarely do they recommend Technologists and Technicians as role models for their kids. When you mention polytechnic education, people think of nitty-gritty hard labour jobs, out in the sun in shorts and rolled up sleeves stained with oil and grease.
But we cannot also fail to recognize the dangers posed to Nigeria's progress by the national obsession with white-collar professions and vocations at the expense of the no-less-important technical education and skills acquisition aspect. This issue has assumed alarming dimensions in the context of the increasing importance of technical know-how and technology in general in world development. The uncomfortable truth staring at us is that the modern world is TECHNOLOGY DRIVEN, with fewer premiums on memo-pushing white-collar jobs that lure our people. The urgent steps taken by the federal government to realign our educational bearings are highly welcome it will dovetail into the ongoing worldwide technological revolution.

Abbeydg:
If there is a plan to creat more technical colleges for practical experiences which will be supported by Universities, then it will be ok. but if not, it is better we still have Poly
Why do you need Poly when Nigerian do not want it? Why are you not in Poly? How many parent want his or her Children to go to Poly?
EducationRe: Hnd Vs Bsc, B. Eng, Etc by Hndholder(m): 2:46pm On Jun 22, 2007
The controversy between HND graduates and university graduate was unnecessary. The quality of HND graduates is as good as that of the university graduates, but insisted that Nigeria was getting it wrong because everybody who passed through OND wants to acquire HND education.
The British Government scrapped HND education years back, because the purpose for it was defeated.
In 1977, there was an attempt by the Federal Government of Nigeria to scrap HND. The intention then was to create a pool of technicians and separate the technicians from the engineers. The mistake government made then was to implement it hurriedly, and then to replace HND with a lower certificate called the National Technical Certificate (NTC).
The students, he said, however, resisted it because they applied for HND programme and not NTC, which was believed to be of lower status. This, he added, was about 30 years ago. The government idea then was good but the approach was wrong
Christianity EtcRe: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by Hndholder(m): 11:00am On Jun 22, 2007
I think somebody some where is over assuming when he has said nothing he assumed to have flaw a point what a lawyer. If one look at himself as "Great Mind" true self assessment might be lacking and no humility traces that show the characteristic of a true Son of God. Tithe eaters knows that they misinterpret the bible to generate incomes in whatever form once BIBLE is involved.

We are all waiting for those words to support Tithe from the NORMal point of view.

Tithe is never the same as Giving or offering in Todays Churches.
My last line.
Good day.
huh
Christianity EtcRe: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by Hndholder(m): 9:38am On Jun 22, 2007
I hope you would remember not to be so dogmatic by forgeting that the bible is just not a BOOK but collection of Scriptures written in diffrent languages by inspired authors.
That Christianity met tithe as a practice which Our lord Jesus Christ never spoke about as a way of getting God blessing.

2000 years ago, they wouldn't even dare say the word
God.'  God was distant, remote, terrible.

Today, Jesus gave the  picture of God as kind, like our earthly  father.
Loving.  Forgiving.  Approachable.

That God said people are stealing in terms of TITHE and offering then will not hold today.

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
   because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
   to release the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Philosophical interpretation of the Bible would be wrong because of the protestants over reacting to issues Just to discredit the Catholics who cleverly preserve the scriptures in scrolls before turning it into a book form in the 14th century when the printing press came.

Mr. bari_kade  you are holding the ball too long than necessary aim at the post and fire the shot.

It seems some one here thought Christianity came out of those electronic organs.
Leaving out catholic means leaving out your authority.  What is the meaning of BIBLE? Go on tell us why we should continue to give out money in the name of tithe to those who call themselves tithe eaters (stealing in the name of the lord)

Philippians 4:15 And as you Philippians know, at the beginning of my gospel ministry, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in this matter of giving and receiving except you alone.
4:16 For even in Thessalonica  on more than one occasion  you sent something for my need.
4:17 I do not say this because I am seeking a gift.  Rather, I seek the credit that abounds to your account.
4:18 For I have received everything, and I have plenty. I have all I need because I received from Epaphroditus what you sent – a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, very pleasing to God. 4:19 And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches  in Christ Jesus.
Christianity EtcRe: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by Hndholder(m): 12:08pm On Jun 21, 2007
Clearly, we pay our TAX in Nigeria to state. The tithe was a form of TAX. Given to the needy, donation to churches are voluntary.

"…freely ye have received, freely give" (Matt. 10:8b).

Look so many are sick in the hospital looking for help that never came. But churches are boasting of Billions and fastest growing.----Stealing in the name of the lord.

The Catholic Church knows its own history and   how tithing got back into the Church after being absent for nearly five centuries:
"As the Church expanded and various institutions arose, it became necessary to make laws which would insure the proper and permanent support of the clergy. The payment of tithes was adopted from the Old Law, The earliest positive legislation on the subject seems to be contained in the letter of the bishops assembled at Tours in 567 and the [canons] of the Council of Macon in 585."—The Catholic Encyclopedia.

bari_kade:
Let me remind you that tithing is NOT by force - and the example I would like you to consider is that of Abraham! The patriarch was NOT FORCED to give tithes of all to Melchizedek!
Hebrews 7

7:1 Now this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, met Abraham as he was returning from defeating the kings and blessed him.
7:2 To him  also Abraham apportioned a tithe  of everything. His name first means  king of righteousness, then king of Salem, that is, king of peace.
7:3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, he has neither beginning of days nor end of life but is like the son of God, and he remains a priest for all time.
7:4 But see how great he must be, if  Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe  of his plunder

7:11 So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood – for on that basis  the people received the law – what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order? 7:12 For when the priesthood changes, a change in the law must come  as well.

No Family of JESUS ever officiate at the alter

7:13 Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to  a different tribe, and no one from that tribe  has ever officiated at the altar.

7:14 For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses said nothing about priests in connection with that tribe. 7:15 And this is even clearer if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 7:16 who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical descent  but by the power of an indestructible life. 7:17 For here is the testimony about him:   “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

7:18 On the one hand a former command is set aside  because it is weak and useless,  7:19 for the law made nothing perfect.

7:28 For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness,  but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever
Christianity EtcRe: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by Hndholder(m): 10:03am On Jun 21, 2007
Not to tithe is still my point. I support the idea of Giving. Giving is not the topic here.
Tithe is by force, it is a law which chritians need not obey but those that use that to steal always made it a condition for GOD blessing.

"By all these things,  I have shown you that by working in this way we must help  the weak,  and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).
