No it's not a major trophy but it is a trophy and after 5 years (I think that's right, could someone remind me) of not winning anything it would be a good start.

And if it does, why were so many Gooners knocking Spurs for winning it?

Well that's what rivals do isn't it? That along with the fact that's all S***s had won for a very long time and the fact they still haven't won the league for 40 years.

And the more pertinent question, is as to why Arsenal only began to take it seriously this season?

Arsenal have reached the 1/4 finals of this competition 8 seasons in a row, reaching one final and a few semi-finals in that time so it's lazy to suggest we are only taking it seriously this season. We still made 7 changes from the team that started against Villa so it's still used very much to play reserves and those coming back from injury. It's just now there is less to choose between our PL side and CC side (whether that's a good or bad thing I'll leave that up to you!)
