i know ure smart; your goalie held on to the ball and the REF demanded for the ball cos the Porto players wanted to take it quickly

the REF didnt block your player( he didnt hold his legs)
**I am just thinking**
Maybe the ref, since the Porto player whispered into his ears that they wanted the kick taken early, shoulda just taken the free kick himself. tongue

call us names o; it adds nor remove nothn

as per the REF; the rules of the game is so clear about what happened
Arsenal FC can lodge a complaint and seek for clarifications
And what does the rule say??
"A referee is allowed to demand for the ball from the offender in a freekick situation and hand it over to the opposition for a quick free kick.
The free kick can be taken quickly even though the referee has stopped passage of play by demanding for the ball.
The referee is also allowed to block the path of the offender and raise his hand to indicate an indirect freekick when the ball has already been played"

Why we are calling you guys 'names' is your failure not to heap any blame on the ref.
We have dissed sol and fabby, but the referee goofed.
Once you call for the ball, it doesn't make sense to drop it for the opposition to take a 'quick' free kick, 5 yards from goal shocked
How you guys can't see that this negates common sense is shocking?

David Morris (Aberdeen) says,

The Referee was woefully wrong. I am an ex football referee. 1. It was not a deliberate pass back. 2. When he blew his whistle to stop play, he should immediately have raised his right arm to indicate it was an indirect free kick and raised his left hand to indicate in which direction (which team) the direct free kick was given. The fact it was not a deliberate pass and no signal was given from the ref caused total confusion, but for the players around the situation. The ref took the ball from the keeper and handed it on a plate to the opposition player. FARCICAL and totally against the spirit of the laws in which the game is supposed to be played. He gave Porto every chance to score and Arsenal NO CHANCE to defend. There is nothing wrong in taking a free kick quickly, but did nobody notice that the referee only raised his hand to show that it was an in-direct free kick AFTER THE PLAYER TOOK THE FREE KICK! (Farcical) And that was on top of the penalty he didn't give one minute earlier. This referee was a joke for the Irish and he was a joke last night too! And I shall tell you exactly why he didn't give the penalty - because he disn't see it - that's why. if you watch the tv/film again, the merest, almost 100th of a second before the trip he slants his head and looks directly towards the goal. By the merest of a fraction of a second he took his eye off the ball. This referee doesn't possess enough BRAIN as regards being a football referee that you keep your eye on the ball for danger at all times! In danger areas he doesn't keep his eye on the ball, hence the reason he missed the Irish incident too. This referee if allowed to continue at the highest level will make more similar mistakes - mark my words.
See this MUMU.

A penalty kick is different in that the referee has to make sure the goalie stays on his line and the other outfield players must stay outside the box.
Comparing that situation to an indirect freekick in the box says a lot about your ineptitude.
The referee has every right to allow a quick freekick. . . . .what y'all should be debating is whether the freekick shoulda been given in the first place or not.
Now a penalty kick is different,eh?
That kick was from 5 yards.
A penalty kick is from 6 yards!

The advantage lies with the team taking the freekick. . . .They can either wait for y'all to regroup or take a quick freekick.
I see
Now, I wonder why the referee stops play when he points to the penlty spot.
Why doesn't a player just grab the ball, place it on the penalty spot and slot home when the goalie and 5 other players are arguing about the decisionhuh

Only a world class m0ron would say there was nothing wrong with the goal.
A. Rosicky was denied a stone wall penalty at the other end in the same passage of play.
B. The rules say the keeper cant pick up a BACK PASS. Campbell's touch was clearly accidental and not a BACK PASS.
C. If i'm not mistaken, when the ref picks up the ball in a dead-ball situation, there MUST be a whistle before play can resume. The retarded ref picked up the ball and gave it straight to the porto player, then let him take the freekick without a whistle. Add that to the fact he was probably impeding Sol and i've NEVER seen a quick free kick taken from INSIDE THE BOX(like HNIC said, its as ridiculous as a "quick-penalty"wink, then the ref should be stoned to death.
@ritchboy
Leave all of dem hypocrites alone.
No one has been able to answer that question.
They say a free kick is the same everywhere.
That freekick was an indirect one and was in the box,by allowing the other team play it quickly then its more or less a penalty

Do u want the ref to present the ball to Sol after collecting it from Lukaz? Do you even read what u post?
Again TH's quick freekick is the same as portos's the key word there is "quick" and not how many yards.
Listen to Darmort Gallaher on SPN. The ref is not wrong on the freekick.
Blame your players for going to sleep after the offence.
Bla, bla, bla
Answer this question
Have you ever seen a quick free kick taken in the box in all your life of watching footie?
and I dont understand how a quick free kick taken from 22yards will be compared to a free kick taken from 5 yards?
It's like comparing a throw in  from halfway line to a throw in at the corner flag!

There is still a 2nd leg to play!
@ HNIC,

Stop arguing like a goat!!!

Fabianski picked up a back pass. . . . .It was a clear freekick so the foul itself is not disputable.
After the foul was given, Sol Campbell held his head and squatted when he should be staying behind the ball and making sure he is standing 1 inch away from the Porto player that wanted to take the freekick quickly. He failed to do that.

Fabianski had the ball in his grasp, a foul has been given. He knew there was no player behind him to defend. . . . .He gave the ball back to his opponent and then turn his back to complain to the line-assistant. If that is not first class idiocy, then i dunno what it is.
Someone like Lehmann or Petr Cech woulda hoofed the ball away and cop a yellow card but he woulda saved time for his players to regroup.

There's no law that says freekicks/corner kicks should not be taken quickly.
The onus is on the defending team to quickly regroup and not be caught napping. Arsenal failed to do just that and they paid for it.
U keep arguing the referee blocked Sol Campbell. . . . .What was Sol Campbell doing in that position. He should be standing behind the ball, Fabianski also should be standing behind the ball when he gave the ball back to the referee.
Balderdash as usual!
Who gave the ball back to the opponent?
Unless you mean the opponent was the referee shocked shocked
The refereee demanded for the ball! and it was given to him.
He should blow the whistle to restart play!
He had the ball in his hands
He could as well have played it wiith his left foot into the net!
We've blamed Fab,blamed Sol, but saying the ref did no wrong is appalling

@Tkb417
Stop saying,blame the keeper. grin
Like Debosky said, I think it should be the last match he should play for Arsenal.
HOwever, the ref is still an idiot.
Come on, presido, stop comparing this with Henry's.
TH14's own was 20-25 yards away.
I would have prefered it if it was the Porto player that grabbed the ball and played a fast one
But the assumption is that once the referee holds the ball, Play is stopped and the referee blows the whistle to restart the game.
Come on, he DEMANDED the ball from Fabianski and gave it to the PORTO player!!!! in the box 18 shocked shocked shocked.
Tell me if you have ever seen a quick freekick being taken 5 yards from goal shocked shocked
In the same way, it's ok for a penalty to be awarded and the ref demands the ball from the goalie, gives the opposing team's player,
he quickly runs to the spot and wham!, ball is in the back of the net,no whistle, no nothing, afterall, it's also a foul!

I am ok, if we call it poor refereeing, but to say it was a dive is unbelievable.

I have been watching footie for decades and I can say,I have never seen a quick freekick being taken in the box 18
