According to the United Nations, the proportion of urban dwellers living in slums decreased from 47 percent to 37 percent in the developing world between 1990 and 2005.[3] However, due to rising population, the number of slum dwellers is rising. One billion people worldwide live in slums[4] and the figure will likely grow to 2 billion by 2030. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slum Slums are a physical and spatial manifestation of urban poverty. People living in slums have little or no access to services such as water, sanitation, and solid waste collection. Most of the housing structures in slums are sub-standard and do not comply with local building codes. http://ww2.unhabitat.org/mdg/ slum 1. To endure conditions or accommodations that are worse than what one is accustomed to. http://www.answers.com/topic/slum Take note of this particular information, it's of good value to you and those arguing. Slums in the traditional sense are housing areas that were once respectable – even desirable – but which deteriorated after the original dwellers moved on to new and better parts of the city. The condition of the old homes declined as they were progressively subdivided and rented out to lower income people. What is a slum? Since it first appeared in the 1820s, the word slum has been used to identify the poorest quality housing, and the most unsanitary conditions; a refuge for marginal activities including crime, ‘vice’ and drug abuse; a likely source for many epidemics that ravaged urban areas; a place apart from all that was decent and wholesome. Today, the catchall term “slum” is loose and deprecatory. It has many connotations and meanings and is seldom used by the more sensitive, politically correct, and academically rigorous. But in developing countries, the word lacks the pejorative and divisive original connotation, and simply refers to lower quality or informal housing. HELP YOURSELF WITH THE REST. http://www.unhabitat.org/downloads/docs/4625_51419_GC%2021%20What%20are%20slums.pdf I am done helping you comprehend. ![]() |

Hehehe, i see. |
When i need to listen to music, i get my radio or audio player working, can't stand all the "porn" views, too slutty to me. Why waste time on music videos when there's discovery channel? |
medjai:lailai, no boardroom point is allowed again, so its either they replay or they don't play at all. |
The problem i have with chief Obaseki is his manner of approach, too boastful, he should stop praising himself, rather let his works speak for him. Too bad most of these ex-footballers won't get into the board with the current settings. |
Wow, well how they managed to make the league go on without money is kinda incredible, all the same, they had money from glo before, they can't tell me they spent all. As for glo, they can go to hell, they can as well go sponsor not just Manchester Utd, but also the rest top 3 teams in England. The league will definitely survive and i pray that someone like Dangote comes in to sponsor the league or even Etisalat. |
Uhmm all these wahala for a car? ![]() |
Sagamite:Do you have problem with comprehension? i said this thread is not for comparison, can't you read this for once? ![]() Sagamite:As a 1st world country, that is a slum, if you like fine-tune it anyhow, it's your problem, not mind bro, A slum is a slum as long as it fits the definition of the UN. Do you mean those houses are of accepted standards in the US? does those streets look like a typical American street? UN definition: A slum, as defined by the United Nations agency UN-HABITAT, is a run-down area of a city characterized by substandard housing and squalor and lacking in tenure security. Lacking security is another meaning of a slum, and you can't tell me some part of Philly and Detroit are not slums, we already saw posts posted by some members on this thread about security is these place. |
What does he want the NPL to do? replay or what? |
hmmmmmmm ![]() |
Sagamite:I showed you pictures of houses, also of the environment, don't tell me you didn't see the street and also the numerous cars parked outside these houses. these houses are on a street in an area right? Sagamite:lol, you are the one having erec.tion at the mention of slum and your almighty USA, can you please calm down a little? were you expecting me to post pictures of slums in America looking like that of a 3rd world country? if that's what you're looking for, sorry you won't find that because slums in 3rd world countries can't be on the same level with that of 1st world counties geddit? One more thing, the way a slum looks like in a 3rd world country won't look like that of a 1st world country, but if they have similar or related features, they are tagged and termed to be of same meaning. A slum is a slum, whether be it in America, Nairobi or Lagos. Lastly, if you don't want us to tag these pics on this thread slums, you can as well give us your own name or the name you think we should call these places. |
MrPrsdent:These scholarships came from the ministry of Women affairs indirectly chaired by the 1st lady, so I'm not wrong, even in her speech, she clearly stated that it was her intention that these girls got the scholarship, so i don't think it was the govt. The government is yet to host them just like they are yet to host the U-17 MEN |
They already won the Emirate cup without Fab, they might as well continue winning it without FAB |
blank:they still need a draw to claim the tournament. medjai:And was that no penalty call? since the ball was goal bound? ![]() |
Uhmmm, apart from using the bible, is there no other reason a woman should be respectful to her hubby? |
