SamAfoo: I have a 2.4L Toyota Rav 4, 2006 Edition. I started to notice since Tuesday that my car cooling system was faulty and the problem is that each time I topped the water in the reservoir, it will go down to the bottom of the reservoir at fifteen (15) km distance and there is no leakage anywhere outside the engine. The radiator ha's been steam-washed at carwash and the problem still persists. Please what could be causing this problem? Your help to this problem will be appreciated. If the issue persists after changing the radiator cap to a better one ,go for Cooling system pressure check. |

Raptureminded: Hello please my uncles car(opel omega) is faulty. The car refuse to start when ignited. Before the problem start the car was overheating... He consulted two electrical artisan (Rewire) They condemn the brain box and the brain box was working when tested... though the brainbox indicator on the dashboard was blinking (before the fault) and that is why they condemn the brainbox.... Engineers in the house pls ur help is needed... On which basis did the rewire condemn the Brainbox ??If you have issue of Overheating prior to incidence of no starting issue ,I expected the troubleshooting to focus more on loss of engine compression due to burnt gasket rather than absence of control signal for the ignition and fuel injection system .I suspect a foul play (the kazeeem might have mistakenly fried your Brainbox in process of troubleshooting with their crude testing light ,it happens alot ). |

mikotek: I'm considering buying a car with a swapped engine, so I'm seeking advice from professionals here in NL. For example, I've seen a Volkswagen passat (2.5L, V6) being swapped with a Volkswagen golf 3 (1.6L). What are the advantages and disadvantages? To me I think the weight of the Passat would drag the small golf 3 engine, making it to work harder, thereby making it to consume more fuel than normal. Please I would really appreciate professional advice and experiences. Don't it try it unless you want to make mechanic workshop your second home. Every engine is tailored designed with precision for that particular car model it is intended with a lot of engineering parameters in consideration. A car swapped with another engine will never run well |

Mrdigitech: Hello guys, I got a Toyota Camry recently and previous owner removed the thermostat because he was told it wasn't meant for Nigerian weather. The Vehicle was guzzling so much fuel like crazy. At first, I coped for the first few weeks. Latter, I started feeling the financial impact the vehicle's excessive fuel consumption had on my pocket. I decided to research online where I saw some threads about thermostat removal and its relation to fuel consumption. I decided go with the recommended guys ( not Kazeems ) on this forum. One said that he can replace the thermostat but I needed to verify from the previous owner if the Vehicle had overheating problems in the past. I did and the previous owner told me no. I didn't believe him though, but I decided to research a little more about a car's overheating problems till I came across Honmusa's tread. I decided to contact him and he explained what needed to be done. I discovered that he uses a cooling system test kit which presurizes the cooling system to expose leaks. So he was the right choice for me. He presurized my cooling system and a exposed a hidden leak on the pipes (thank God it wasn't Radiator) I sighed. We fixed it and pressurised it with his kit and it was peefect. However, a Kazeem (Toyeeb actually) worked on my alternator earlier in the day and didn't fix the wires properly. This disconnected my instrument cluster and power windows. All the guages were dead. I was wondering how I would be able to drive home without seeing the cluster guages. How do I know the car's temperature was rising beyond the accepted level? But Honmusa assured me that no overheating situation would occur. I took his word and entered heavy traffic. No overheating and I switched on my AC non stop and it didn't cause any problem. I drove 30km home and back to his workshop without issues. Guys! Honmusa is the REAL DEAL when it comes to vehicles. He has tools and kits for almost everything. The Kazeem (who worked on my alternator in the morning) I took to see Her Honmusa was just surprised. He cleaned up his mess and I went home happy. The Kazeem I took was very ignorant and boastful that he doesn't need to scan anything. That he has lots of experiences. That good guys don't need to scan anything them will just see the vehicle abd know. I looked at him and saved my breath. Guys, take your lovely ride to Honmusa and stay a 1000 miles away from Kazeems, Toyeebs, alfas and Kazeem's distant relatives, they'll wreck you...

Also, I happen to run a Mobil1 synthetic oil but hardly drive the SUV, I have not covered a thousand miles in 16 months, is it advisable I flush out oil?
Thanks Early morning steam coming out is normal especially cold morning as this is due to condensation action that has occurred overnight when the temperature has dropped .The engine will need to get rid of all this water in the morning which will come out in form of steam . |

Now I am noticing high temp on temp reading of over 100 degrees. The funny part is earlier when I was using water, once the temp is above 90, my fan will kick start and the temp will reduce to somewhere around 85 and then it will start rising again and the cycle is repeated. Now, the temp keeps rising above 100.

Now I been told that the ecu is no good so needs replacing. My question is can i by pass the ecu and change the injectors and fuel pump to a none ecu controlled just like the older cars are. (cabled)
Thanks jamin It is white elephant project u want to embark on .It is easier and much cheaper to change ECU than change the complete system to a non ECU controlled systems. And even if are able to achieve it ,your are going to have a terrible fuel guzzlers beast as a vehicle . |

The issue is more than oil change !!Though changing to factory spec oil to is a step in right direction .p1349 DTC code due to using dirt in the oil will not localise misfire to a particular bank and it will not even bring about a significant high fuel mileage noticeable to the user cos it will be an intermittent DTC . I am strongly believe that P1349 that set up a misfire code is electrical(vvt solenoide ,vvt wiring ,ecu) or mechanical (VVt actuator and valve timing ) |

Please advice! thanks Scan the car if u can have any pointer to the reason. ,I am sure such a car of that age (1996) will be giving out oxygen sensor code ,thermostat would have been removed and fan running direct. AutoElectNG: There is an alternative professional opinion from a highly respected source who chooses to remain undisclosed at the moment (by that I mean I do not have his permission to disclose his identity) which addresses something I overlooked, you may observe I spent scant attention to the wheezing sound you made mention to coming from around the compressor unit or area.
It reads:
"The temperature on the condenser/radiator went to high that the relief valve on the compressor opened up ( the wheeze sound) and stopped wheezing when the pressure was within limits."
The professional opinion then recommended/concluded:
"I feel she needs a new radiator"
So that is another possibility that we might have to strongly consider.
I came to a different conclusion because I have had to troubleshoot a situation where the temperatures would rise in slow moving traffic or at speeds under 50 MPH, but then there was no wheezing sound. Turns out that the fan that cycles on with the AC compressor has stopped working, so although the vehicle had not been abused, the cooling power of one fan was insufficient to bring temperatures down. But as soon as that problem was identified and rectified so that both fans would work as originally designed, the overheating went away. The difference though is that on this vehicle there was no wheezing sound, as soon as the overheating was observed more than once, the AC was shut down and temperatures came down, the AC was no longer used until the issue was rectified.
Second scenario, different vehicle at all other times, no overheating, but at a stop or in slow moving traffic without AC the vehicle would begin overheating, once the connections were reversed to factory setting, the overheating went away.
So now you have the benefit of more than one expert opinion, so you are in good hands.
shoot me an email carelectronics (at) nichekonsult (dot) com, then I can give your other methods of contacting me if email is not convenient Bros you are throwing parts at issue. This is more less like trial and error cos u are not asking the pertinent questions. You are neither here or there . Let the OP flush the radiator first cos dirt buildup can cause unesssary pressure buildup with the cooling system ,it is more easier and less expensive to wash the radiator than any other thing .Before u can even conclude on any swap ,physical Inspection is required cos u are dealing with alot of variables. |

No issue with the car apart from the fuel ish and the check engine light on. Its bn scanned and it brought forth code p0300 P0301 P0303 Vvt system malfunction bank 1 Please wat could be wrong? Unfortunately the car is in the east as all d professionals seems to be based in lagos. Please I'll need any professional mechanic in umuahia dat can fix this for me. Not kazeeem biko. Lol All the misfire you have and the VVt malfunction are concentrated on bank 1and this a pattern that the issue is concentrated on bank 1. I am sure your kazeems must have confirmed the ignition systems (sparks plugs ,coil and igntions electricals) and fuel injection (injectors ,fuel pump) ok and thus eliminate that the misfire is due to those factors. Concentrate the effort on the the VVt system on bank 1,check the VVt solenoid ,VVt wiring and the oil for dirts, first and if confirm ok ,then u will need to confirm if the valve timing as the last resort as this can be a clue to the cause of the misfire on bank 1. |

Nobody is denying the fact that competent hand is good, but u guys need to reevaluate the way u rush to threads to drag people to your shop. Emulate gazzuzz. It's not hard. Issue will determine the kind of solution that will be preferred . I am a professional , I adopt scientific approach to achieve 100% and accurate diagnosis which is a combination of car repair history , customer observation and data gathered with my professional tool which is why physically inspection is needed most . This can never be achieved online ,physical meeting is needed atimes and is a matter of choice that the car owner can oblige to I am been a practising techie for more than a decade now and I can openly boast that it has been a successful journey so far for me and my crew .U don't need to like my approach as I don't owe u anything cos you you don't know a pin about this profession ,I am the professional here. Also you don't need to rant about that I should copy some one else style, Companies policies differs .Instead of wasting your effort to put someone else down ,use that effort to find your area of strength and you will have that inner joy of putting smile to people's face.Remember backbiter will always remain at the back no matter what . Finally ,what is my concerned with your story of a professional that fixed wrong engine ,if you have issue with that and you find nothing tangible to do with your time ,u can start a thread on it instead of throwing blames around. |
