Of course, such is based on conviction and not because of threats of an eternal infernal confine. The people in such gatherings have seen a reason to believe without being blood curdled to follow Christ. But people who go to church for fear of hell have only proven that fear sometimes keep people at bay.
I was just trying to show you that its not only hell fire that drives people into church as you earlier said. And here you ve admitted

The idea of hell has only scared people into the Church. It is quite effective than the promised bliss in heaven.
Nope. There are denominations that don't believe in eternal torment and they have population. There are other religion that dont preach hell yet they have population.

mrmrmister:
As kids , they used to tell us that when we die and make Heaven, we have mansions in heaven.
The mansions are built according to what (the offerings) we give to God on earth.
Infact I was even told that Lazarus the beggar is currently squatting with Abraham in heaven grin because he never gave offerings.

So my question is,
Do your Pastors ( who spend the offerings here on earth grin) have mansions in heaven??

Another question
Why do they (pastors) tell you not to worry about worldly things, but instead enjoy your reward in heaven while they keep buying private jets??
What is a Pastor's reward in Heaven??

#Curious
Its really pathetic. For me i cant stay in any church that does this. There are some churches that are not like that anyway. People should rather change to those churches. No pastor can tell me how i will spend my money. If you like preach from morning till night, i will put my money in any church i find in need of it, not only where i worship. For some months now i ve not put my money in the church i worship, i ve been given to other churches, especially the up coming ones to give them support. Not that my church fall under the the category you mentioned but considering the fact that my monthly tithe/offering is quite reasonable and can be of good support to the up coming churches thats why i give to them. We should be wise.

Pastors/MOGs/Daddy GO's keep telling the poor to forget the things of the world and make the heavenly riches, pay tithes and have a heavenly account accessible when you die, but they themselves stark huge amount of money right here on earth, big houses and cars and jets - isn't time the poor asked themselves "Do they really believe what they preach?"
I agree with this.

Do i care how you feel about it? Nope, If you go to hell does it add more money into my bank account and if you make heaven does it add to my bank account? No. So why do i spend time to tell people reading this message that hell fire is real? I didnt invite you to my church, I'm not even a pastor so nothing to benefit if you believe or if you dont believe. (God forbid) if i come tomorrow and tell you that there is no hell fire it still wont change the truth that there is hell fire and that its eternal. I have just stated the truth for sincere readers.

I know it sounds strange but i have been thinking of it recently, lets say a woman wants to get an abortion, couldn't God audibly tell her that it is sinful and not to get it done? I get that free will is why we are able to... but surely it wouldn't be taking away free will for God to simply say not to do something. One could still choose to reject God's command. What do you think?

If Mr Femi thinks the parable of rich man and Lazarus shouldn't be taken literally, what does he think of the book of Revelation where it was clearly stated times without number, about the fact of the everlasting nature of Hell?

His opinion about the way and manner God chose to mete out judgement - cannot change the mind of God. God is not just a God of mercy and great love, He's also a God who is very concerned about justice. And because He created us in His image, we share that quality too.
A year or two ago, a US judge sentenced a rapist to 1000 years of imprisonment. That was how the judge was convinced justice could be clearly seen to be done.
Let's come home to Nigeria.... There's a probability that you have at least one time been disappointed on the slow pace of govt's pursuit of fighting corruption and then commented, "How many corrupt politicians have they jailed since all these brouhaha of fighting corruption?" You're so eager to see justice done, not because you derive any joy from people being jailed.
That's God's nature in you showing forth.

No matter how people castigate it, the Word of God say it so clearly and that's what every Christian should believe.
Thank you my brother. We will continue to say the truth whether they like it or not.

Christianity EtcRe: My Experience With A Psychotic Religious Woman Today. by honourhim: 9:56am On Oct 02, 2016
FunkyMetahuman:
On my way to work this morning,
a woman flagged me down and begged for a lift, I had a friend in the car I picked earlier.

Well, since we're going in the same direction with the woman, i decided to pick her up. I think she should be in her early 30 and she looked like an educated person.

She sat at the back, and i started having a conversation with my friend and suddenly this woman butted in. She asked if I will be available on Saturday evening that she wants to invite me to her church for a program (directing the question to me). I said nope, Saturday evenings are me time, to have a good beer and watch weekend football.

Na so preaching start o. I no know say beer and football are bad things. (She said football is the new god that people worship) grin
Okay! after like 6mimutes of boring preaching and threatening me with hell.
She asked which church I attend? I said nope I'm not a Christian. She was a bit disappointed and automatically assumed I'm a Muslim. then she said well, we worship the same god.. She said that with the hope that she could convert or at least force me to come to her church program.
I said nope I'm not a Muslim either. (I could see the big disappointment on her face right now from the center mirror grin )
She then said what are you then? I'm sure the answer running through her mind at that moment would be that I'm either an idol worshipper or something related to that.
I said I'm an irreligious.
She said irreligious ke? In Nigeria? or just a back slider?
I said nope.. In fact, I don't believe in god.

Chai! come see how this woman screamed ehnnnnnnn like she saw a ghost or a serial killer or something like that.

Next thing, she started shouting park! park! park, park, opening my car door on motion.
I have never seen anything like that in my life.
She just jumped out of the car and started running like a mad woman.
I didn't even park well, and I could see the look on the few people around faces like I just did something awful to the woman.
Like I pointed a gun at her head or robbed her.
I had to quickly zoom off before those people start getting a wrong idea from the scene caused by the crazy woman and probably subject me to jungle justice grin

My friend and I busted into one serious laughter afterwards.

But seriously, it wasn't funny at all. Atheist should be more outspoken at least to downsize the number of over brainwashed intolerant people like her who probably thought she did the right thing by staying away from a devil like me as quickly as possible.
Big lies.
Christianity EtcRe: God Will Not Burn Anyone In A Fiery Hell For Eternity -femi Aribisala by honourhim: 9:42am On Oct 02, 2016
seunmsg:
When some Samaritans refused to allow Jesus free passage to Jerusalem, the Zebedee brothers asked him to call down fire from heaven on them, just as Elijah did. But Jesus rebuked them strongly. He said to them: “You do not know of what spirit you are.” (Luke 9:55).

In the same manner, most Christians today don’t seem to know of what spirit they are. As a result, they buy the lie, long promoted by those inclined to scare people into churches in order to get their money; that God is going to burn sinners in a fiery furnace for eternity.

This is preposterous. “God is love.” (1 John 4:cool. He is not hate. “His anger is but for a moment, his favour is for life.” (Psalm 30:5). “Though he causes grief, yet he will show compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.” (Lamentations 3:31-33). “He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:9-10).

We are told 41 times in scripture: “(God’s) mercy endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1). Nevertheless, some Christians are so racked with evil and hate, they fail to realise there is a fundamental contradiction between a God whose mercy endures forever, and one who would burn sinners in a fiery furnace not for an hour, or a day, but for eternity.

Parables Are Allegorical

One of the scriptures used to justify this denigration of God’s character is Jesus’ story of Lazarus and the rich man. There, Jesus talks about a rich man who lived sumptuously, not caring for the poor, but ended up in a place of burning in the grave. He then juxtaposed this with Lazarus, a man poor and downtrodden all his life who ended up in Abraham’s bosom in the grave.

The first thing that needs to be pointed out is that this story is a parable. All Jesus’ stories are parables: “All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable he did not speak to them.” (Matthew 13:34). Parables are fiction; they are not real. The parable of Lazarus and the rich man comes as the last segment of a series of five parables Jesus presents sequentially in Luke 15 and 16, including that of the “Lost Sheep”; “Lost Coin”; “Lost Son”; and “Unjust Steward”.

Jesus’ parable is allegorical. There is no real place called Abraham’s bosom. Solomon says: “The dead do not know anything.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5). So how come the rich man recognises Abraham in the grave? If there is a great gulf fixed between heaven and hell, how can Abraham converse with the rich man in hell? If those in heaven can hear the agonies of their relations in hell, how can they enjoy heaven?

Jesus’ parable is issue-specific. It is an indictment of the Pharisees in particular, and the Jews in general. They are the rich of Jesus’ parable. They are rich because they have God. They are rich because they are the descendants of Abraham, who God blessed in all things. They are rich because they have “the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the Law, and the service of God, and the promises.” (Romans 9:4).

Because of this, they look down on the Gentiles, represented by Lazarus. Gentiles are the poor because they are: “aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.” (Ephesians 2:12).

Lesson to the Jews

What the Jews failed to understand, however, is that in the kingdom of God, “the last shall be first, and the first last.” (Matthew 20:16). Jesus warns: “Many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven. But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 8:11-12).

John the Baptist also warned the Israelites about reliance on their Abrahamic heritage: “Do not think to say within yourselves, we have Abraham as our father. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.” (Matthew 3:9). In Jesus’ parable, the chickens have come home to roost. Jesus’ story shows how and why the sons of Abraham lost their inheritance to the Gentiles.

Some say the fact that Jesus states the name of the poor man shows his story is real and not fiction. However, the opposite is the case. The name Lazarus is the Greek version of the Hebrew name Eliezer. Eliezer was Abraham’s servant in real life and Abraham was worried that if he remained childless, this Eliezer, a Gentile stranger, would be his heir. But now according to Jesus, it is this Gentile stranger that ends up in Abraham’s bosom, while the son of Abraham is cast into outer darkness.

This shows Jesus’ parable is not about the fictitious Christian hell but about the comeuppance of the supercilious Pharisees and Jews. Jesus’ rich man represents Judah. He has five brothers like Judah, who also had five brothers: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Issachar and Zebulon. (Genesis 35:23). When he pleaded with Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers, Abraham said to him: “If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded, even though one rose from the dead.” (Luke 16:31).

This is a veiled prophecy directed specifically at the Jews and not at Gentiles. Jews, not Gentiles, are those who were supposed to hear Moses but did not. Jews, not Gentiles, are those who were not persuaded when Jesus raised a real Lazarus of Bethany from the dead. Indeed, they wanted to kill him again thereafter. Jews, and not Gentiles, are those who were not persuaded when Jesus himself was raised from the dead.

Restitution of All Things

In short, the parable of Lazarus and the rich man is not about the eternal damnation of sinners in hell and the end of the righteous in heaven. It is about the comeuppance of Israel and the Jews. Jesus never said Lazarus was righteous; he only said he was poor. Abraham’s bosom is not heaven. As John the Baptist explains, heaven is the bosom of God the Father. (John 1:18).

Both the rich man and Lazarus are in the grave; a temporal, and not everlasting, abode. According to Jesus, all will resurrect from the grave: “The hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth – those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” (John 5:28-29).

Jesus does not indicate how long the resurrection of condemnation will be. But it cannot be eternal because there will be a restitution of all things (Acts 3:21), when every knee will bow in worship to God. (Isaiah 45:23). The redeemed are merely the “first-fruits” of salvation. In the ages to come, God promises to rebuild the tabernacle of David: “so that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord.” (Acts 15:16-17).

Before I stopped going to church, I was living with a very stingy religious uncle who gives me #500 or #1000 for offering every sunday! But the truth was that I have never given the money to church! I had always removed the money and submitted empty envelops!
Just this morning, our house was on "fire" just because I said I wasn't going to church again and in the course of the heated argument, I told them how I had never even paid offering even when the money was given to me!
My parents became mad at me and saying that if I don't go and beg for forgiveness and pay all those money, that the cancerworm and caterpillars will "chop" all the money me and my generation will ever make! Personally, I just believe all those things are trash but the way my dad was saying it convincingly and trying to quote the bible makes me want to ask if those curses are true for "chopping god's money"
