Politics › Like Ethiopia, Like Nigeria: How China Helped Ethiopia Economy. by honourhim(op): 9:06am On Apr 17, 2016 |
Nigeria signed a major deal with China this week as President Buhari made an important trip to visit its leader, Xi Ji Ping. Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Godfrey Onyema, who accompanied Buhari on the trip to China, announced that the orient nation offered a $6 billion loan to Nigeria to fund infrastructure projects, one of the key areas Buhari promised to address with Nigeria’s 2016 Budget. This came as good news to many Nigerians as it now appears that Buhari has a clear economic policy. On the other hand, some Nigerians have expressed their reservations concerning this new development, claiming China was “scamming” Nigeria, a phrase that became an hashtag on social media this morning. However, what Nigerians can do is look at precedents i.e. China’s similar investment in other African countries, particularly Ethiopia. Ethiopia has recently gained continent-wide fame for its development and achievements in the past few years. The country is one of the world’s fastest growing economies now, Africa’s fastest growing economy, thanks to government spending (tax driven) and Chinese investment. Ethiopia launched the first light rail system, in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2015 which links its capital, Addis-Ababa, to the neighbouring country, Djibouti. Africa’s current biggest economy and second biggest, Nigeria and South Africa respectively, cannot boast of one. The responsibility for this light rail, which cost $3bn to build, was taken up by China after the World Bank and other Western donors had shown a reluctance to fund the project, to the surprise of Getachew Betru, the head of Ethiopia’s Railway Corporation. China not only constructed it, but provided most of the funding for it. The train, which was initially built to counter the challenges that Ethiopia’s drought this year would pose, has received an expanded vision. It has now acquired a Pan-African vision; it will expand to run through South Sudan, Sudan, Kenya and other East African countries. This move will surely see Ethiopia emerge as an economic hub in East Africa. Nigeria seems to be taking a cue from Ethiopia and China. It plans to build a similar one which will run from its southern states to Lagos, its commercial hub. This project is going to be financed by China and is set to help the economic development of the country’s marginalised southern region greatly. However, projects like this need to be supplied with adequate power, something Nigeria does not yet have, but this is not so for Ethiopia. It recently announced that it made $123 million dollars as profit from the sale of electricity both at home and abroad to Djibouti, Kenya and Sudan, while also establishing links to five other East African countries. These have been done all through the help of Chinese electrical transformers. Ethiopia also recently announced that its Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will be completed in 2017. This dam will supply 6,000 megawatts of electricity, even larger than the whole of Nigeria’s present power capacity of about 5,000 megawatts. That number would make the dam Africa’s largest hydroelectric project and Nigeria could surely do with something like this. Buhari, during his visit, promised China that all projects started by Nigeria’s former administrations will be completed under his tenure. Though this deal could see the influx of Chinese expatriates into the nation, it seems there is no cause for alarm about China ‘stealing Nigerian jobs.’ According to China’s ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, La Yifan, in 2015, “the best way to contribute to human rights is creating jobs and alleviating poverty,” The rate of Chinese expatriates to jobs created for Ethiopians is 1 to 20. And this has seen unemployment rate in the country decrease from 20.4 percent in 2009 to 16.8 percent in 2015, and is set to further reduce with the job potentials of the completed rail system and electricity grid. Though, Nigeria’s inclusion of the Chinese Yuan in its foreign exchange currencies may not “crash the dollar” as some Nigerian media houses have reported, it would go a long way in creating a path for Chinese-built infrastructure in Nigeria, without the cumbersomeness of dollar rates. Ethiopia is Africa’s second largest population and land-locked too. Nigeria which has the highest population and is not land locked should definitely not be doing worse than Ethiopia if it wants to live up to its title as “Africa’s largest economy.” If Nigeria wants to truly diversify its economy, building its infrastructures is essential and it seems China is the best to partner with. http://venturesafrica.com/why-ethiopias-rise-in-the-past-few-years-should-give-hope-to-nigeria/ |

corperscorner: Its been a couple of months since my girlfriend traveled and the frequent rain fall haven't really been helping matters. I initially felt I could contain my urge but sometimes it gets out of hand (GUYS WOULD UNDERSTAND BETTER).
So yesterday, I decided to invite a particular girl over, she happens to have been hoping I would do that a long time though.
To cut the long story short, the touching began and it got to the stage where she gave in and allowed me pull off her entire outfit.....like down to the last. At this point, it must have been so certain to her that we were going to get down.....
But to the glory of God, it suddenly flashed through my mind how my girlfriend would call frequently and how she would often profess her love for me.......the fact that we've grown to become an item over time made me feel a prick in my conscience and all of a sudden I started feeling disgusted with myself. While these activities were going on in my head, this particular girl that came over had already arrived cloud 9....waiting for me to 'enter the place'. But somehow, I was able to knock senses into my head and attempted to help her back into her outfit while she completed the process herself. (IT TOOK AN EFFORT - BLIV ME)
She turned to me and asked? 'Whats the problem?'...........I said 'nothing, its not happening'. Then she pulled away hurriedly and vowed never to visit me again. I was really glad but concealed this so it would not be obvious though.
Anyways, with all that past me now........one thing I can say is that. I have no regrets and if any at all, it would be inviting her to come over in the first place. I realized we guys can be faithful, it only takes a little effort towards self control. I called my girlfriend a few minutes after the drama and we spoke at length for close to an hour..............and from the conversation, all I could deduce was......I care about her feelings much more than I thought. Don't be deceived. It is wrong to have sex with your so called girlfriend or any other girl so don't beat your chest yet until you achieve that. Wait till u marry. |

Romance › Re: I Caught My Best Man With My Wife Two Weeks To Our Wedding. by honourhim: 5:48am On Mar 02, 2016 |
alberson: .I Caught My Best Friend And Best Man With My Wife Two Weeks To Our Wedding.
I walked into the room and met my best man making love to my wife I met Charles on campus. I was in my first year in the university. I had just resumed and was trying to grapple with the demand of university life. One morning I had gone to the cafeteria. While paying for my food, I ran into a young handsome looking guy and we ended striking an acquaintance. I later found out that we are both in the same department. From then we became friends. In the second year, we ended up being roommates. Our friendship grew from there. We were like brothers. We helped one another in our studies. We looked out for one another. In fact many people on campus thought we were brothers. Charles was a great guy. He was handsome tall and good looking. In fact in our third year on campus, he entered the Mr. Campus contest and won. That made him become very popular. He was especially popular with the girls. They loved. In fact the attention was so much at a time that he lost focus and his grades suffered. There were just too many babes jostling for his attention. In our fourth year, Charles had become very used to the attention that it meant nothing to him again. Our association blossomed. As his fame grew, I became his manager when he attended shows. He also worked as the Master of Ceremony at school events. I was the calmer guy. I made sure I kept my head so I could put my best friend in check. At last we graduated and our parents, who had become friends because of our association, came to celebrate with us. When we left school, we continued our friendship. We got jobs in two blue chip companies. We also continue to date our campus sweet hearts. Charles and I met our future partners at a departmental event on campus in our second year in the university. They were both in another department. But we had continued the relationship even when Charles derailed and become way ward. I convinced his girlfriend not to give up on him. Eventually we all graduated and our relationship continued. After about two years of working I proposed to my fiancee. I did not want to waste any more time. But something bad happened to Charles relationship with Adaeze, She had caught him again cheating and had decided to call it quits despite all my pleading. Charles was left to spend more time in my place as he complained of boredom. Adaeze doesn’t come to keep him company again. She had left the relationship for good. I was sorry for my friend. But how many times will I keep interceding on his behalf? Charles now practically was living with me. He also became close to my woman. Gradually I discovered they were both unusually close. When I am at work, they will call me they went out together as Charles had been on leave from work. I noticed their relationship became closer. But I still thought nothing of it. Many times, I my wife to be will stay glued to her phone chatting. I never thought nothing of it as she could be chatting with her sister s and friends. As the days turned into months, we began the planning for my wedding. Naturally, Charles became the choice for my best man. I had pacified my brother who returned from the United States that I and Charles had gone way back since our campus days. The day of the wedding was set. I was also so busy that I did not notice the change in my fianceé body language. Every time I asked for romance, she was always reluctant and unresponsive. I had thought then that she was reserving her body until we get married. One day, instead of calling my name, she mentioned Charles. Well, I did not get angry because I and Charles are like blood brothers. About two weeks to our wedding, I had gone to the office to retrieve my computer as I had been granted leave to prepared for the weeding. Charles was home and busy with preparations as usual. I returned home an hour short of when I told my fiancée I would returned. I parked the car outside our gate as someone had already taken my parking space.I walked the distance to the house. The entire place was silent. I called out but no one answered. I climbed the staircase, and as I made to enter my room, I heard an unusual noise from the guest room. I went to the door and listen. The noise was a moan of pleasure from an excited lady whose voice sounded like my wife. Why they refused to lock the door is what I can still not decipher. But according to the saying, every day for the thief, one day for the owner. I pushed open the door and met my best friend, my best man for my wedding on top of my wife. They were both Unclad as they made love furiously. I shouted Charles name and became unconscious. I later found myself in the hospital. My cheating wife was at my bed side but Charles was nowhere in to be found. He had packed all his things and absconded. I cried profusely as I looked at my wife. When my parents and sisters came into the hospital, I could not reveal to them what brought me to the hospital. I only lied to them that I was stressed out because of the wedding preparations. When they asked for Charles, I could not give any sufficient explanation and I could not tell them that he had been sleeping with my wife to be behind me. I was discharged from the hospital and I am back home. My fiancée has gone back to her parents place and Charles is still missing. I was later told by his brother that he had travelled finally to Canada and had apologise for the short notice. I know Charles had escaped being confronted with his guilt. But I know he can run but not hide. My fiancée has been pleading that it was the devils work. She said she did not know the charm Charles used for her. She has refused to tell me how long Charles has been sleeping with her though she swore the time I caught them was the first. How do I believe her? The wedding in two in two weeks and I still do not know what to do. Do I tell my family and cancel the wedding or should I forgive my wife to be. This is the dilemma I have found myself. I love my wife to be but how can I live with the thought of seeing my best friend Unclad on top of my wife? Should I cancel the marriage and look for another woman or should I accept her apology? matured comments please .. Stoy story. U found your friend on top of your fiancee two weeks to your wedding? You passd out and was admitted in the hospital, your friend absconded and went to Canada while your fiance travelled to the village? All these happened within the two weeks to your wedding? And here u are asking for advice that your marriage is in two weeks time. Liar. U r just seeking attention. Whoever put this on front page should be careful of promoting lies. |

They say the protest march will hold simultaneously in Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo states at a date before Christmas. The Founder of Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, Evangelist Elliot Uko, made this known after a marathon meeting with Igbo traders organizations and some Niger Delta groups. The Niger Delta groups which attended the meeting yesterday at the IYM secretariat in Enugu included, Union of Niger Delta and South-South Youth Congress, among others. According to Uko, 13 different marches for the restructuring of Nigeria will hold in Afikpo, Abakaliki, Nsukka, Enugu, Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia, Okigwe, Owerri, Orlu, Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka. He said that, “these peaceful marches will be led by the clergy and students groups in each of the cities and towns in the South East. “Only the truth can save the situation and the truth is that Nigeria must be urgently restructured

luckycliff: Everyone getting married today wants to do this so called white wedding in the church. But I have been reading the bible and I am yet to see where an event of church wedding or solemnization of marriage of joining two people together took place in the bible. I guess the marriage Christ attended that was recorded in the Bible was a traditional marriage. So where in the world did this church wedding come from? I think it is wrong for Christians to be practicing right in the churches something like this that is not supported by the Bible. I suppose, for the Christians, practicing anything outside the Bible is a sin. Therefore Church wedding is a sin! It waa God that instituted marriage and he didnt specify where it should be done so we are not bound to do it in the church or anywhere. Its an open thing. Most cbueches do support court wedding, traditional wedding or church wedding. Its an open thing. You choose. But the bible said it is honourable, with the bed undefiled. It is between a man and a woman. No instruction about venue so u dont have any grounds to condemn those who choose to wed in church. And people shoild not feel that their wedding is superior to the one done outside the church. |
