Hi all,
Is it safe to apply for a 1-year PSW certificate program, from immigration visa perspective? Candidate has a Laboratory Science certificate from Lagos State College of Health.
Has anyone applied successfully for a student visa with a PSW course?
Thanks! |

PR is for permanent immigration, while you have to promise to return in a Study Visa application. It is easy to see how these are contradictory. What does the shaded mean? Better to get the PR application to a logical conclusion before starting the study visa, and hopefully you won't need it. Cashmay: Pls gurus in the house, is it possible for someone who applied for PR to also apply for Canadian student visa? I just got admission into one of the colleges in Ontario which is different from the province (Manitoba) that nominated me for PR. Since the PR is not forthcoming, I decided to apply for admission. Please am I on the right path? Hope it won’t affect my study permit application. I would appreciate your sincere advice. |

Minor correction: doing upfront medical may not guarantee you an NSE request. My applicant did not do upfront medical, yet she got NSE request. At this point, we really don't fully know their conditions for issuing NSE request.

1. I think it is close enough 2. Neither really matters as none of them guarantees approval. Theoretically, NSE is supposed to be faster. But if you are able to, submit your IELTS (with each 6 or higher) and 1 year mybankstatement or normal bank statement together with your application. 3. That depends on your personal circumstance, most people will say 1 month is enough for you to prepare. Blessing456: Dear All i have some questions to ask
1.For someone who has BSC Accounting, can the person opt in for an MSC Econs? is it close enough? 2. which is better the NSE or the normal route? 3.can one study and write ielts within a space of 2 months? I appreciate answers please.
Thank you |

I just want to point out that for those planning to go to schools in Quebec, their PR process is different from the rest of Canada and can get a bit more complicated than English-speaking provinces. Primarily due to French Language requirements and other different steps in their process. Something to bear in mind as you start your study journey. Philadelphia: Babcock alumnus right?
Try UBC, McGill... McGill tuition for 2 years is about $50k CAD for the Information Studies program . There are lots of schools in Canada that offers Information Studies programs. But your acceptance is determined by your CGPA and work experience. Information Studies and Library Science programs are competitive to get admits because most of their citizens and Americans are pursuing admission into such departments. |

I can see the link between electrical and agriculture, but with the limited information you've provided it may be difficult for the VO to see the relationship outsider of the SOP. I wonder if your work experience is related to your program of study. We'll need other forum members to analyse this situation and provide perspective. kelvine95: I studied Electrical Engineering and my masters is in agriculture but under the dept of Engineering. My research group is Applied Intelligent Engineering Systems Research Group in the Faculty of Agriculture. |

The reason on the GCMS note doesn't make any sense to me. It is just too subjective. What is your intended program of study versus your background? kelvine95: I was denied Visa for;
1. I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence. 2. I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.
And I got my gcms notes just now. Please note that I got a funding of 26,100 cad per year for 2 years. My tuition is 18,300 cad for first year and around 12,000 cad for 2nd year. I totally understand the comments from the visa officer aside for the *unreasonable cost*, since my tuition us fully covered, why is that still a problem?
I also noticed that the VO probably did not read my application correctly, since I applied to Dalhousie University and not University of Regina. |

I will advise against submitting both a Study Permit and a PR at the time same time. Study Permit require you to convince the VO of your intention to return after study. How can you do that with a parallel Permanent Residence application? Secondly, PR applications are more certain than TRVs, why apply for a Study Permit as an international student if you qualify and have been invited to apply for a PR? TeeMade: Hello @Frankrobbn1,
Please clarify the bolded, has this always been the case or is this a new development? I'm asking becuase I have read on this thread and other platforms how difficult it can be to convince the VO in a case of dual intent. If it's legitimate, why is it an issue convincing the VO? Kindly touchlight this for more learning. Thanks for always.
It will end in praise for us all... |

That is a very strange thing for IRCC to say. Do you mind sharing an anonymized screenshot of that correspondence? I'm not suggesting what you're saying is untrue, but I will like to see IRCC's specific words. In theory, yes you can. But in reality, you don't want to do that. Study visa requires intention to return, which conflicts with a Permanent Residency application. Actually, it wouldn't make sense to a VO for you to apply for Study Visa when you qualify for a PR. Olayinkaji: Also can someone do Canadian PR and study permit together |

If you're just starting your process now, I think May is too close for both admission and visa processing. You should consider September resumption. Olayinkaji: Good day Guys, I would like to ask is it advisable to apply for May session or September session. I just want to start admission application. If I apply for May intake, and the admission letter comes out and I use it to apply for Visa application. With this new 35 weeks wait, will the acceptance letter be deemed invalid to IRCC if they are yet to respond to me after the May resumption? |

Sounds like a reasonable home tie to me. But as a general rule of thumb, don't lie!! If IRCC asks (and they will) about your parents' and siblings' residence and citizenship, just say the truth. It's for their records and your application won't be denied for that. Tre20: Pls I need to ask this question... Short answer is No. You can't even comfortably 'visit' Canada with 700K, much less study for any length of time with that amount. lovecares34: I don't know, that's why I am asking. I know someone that travelled to UK with 700k they worked and planned everything out for d guy and he moved. spent about 280k for flight. So I think a way to relocate to Canada is possible but I don't know how. I want to move asap |

Truth of the matter is that even after completing study in Canada, you still have to go through the Express Entry route for permanent immigration. So, in this particular case, the first correct call of action is for them to enter their stats into the CRS calculator and see what points they get. Anyone with an MSc and 3+ years of NOC 0, A and B work experience should always check their CRS score first and foremost. Even if you choose to do the education program later as a PR, you can do it using domestic fees. Akannitommy: Yes, but not in all cases so we shoud not generalize. Consider someone with 10 years work experience and 2 masters (not even one with one of those earned from the USA). But the person is 40 years old and the wife with a Bsc is over 37 years already, how would that assumption work? I think you can add a "caveat" to avoid unintended misinformation. |

Hubby has an MSc with 8 years relevant work experience? Please consider Express Entry directly. BaesDiary: Hello everyone. Thank you all for this beautiful thread. I have some questions, and it would be so appreciated if I can get answers.
My hubby, 34YRO, has M.Sc in Information Technology with 8 years relecant experience. I am 32 years old, i have M.Sc with a CGPA of 4.2 and CGPA of 4.3 in my B.Sc. I am employed, but in a completely different field entirely. I look forward to doing my PHD with full funding, and I am already compiling emails to send to prospective supervisors. However, I will like to migrate to Canada with my hubby and baby.
1.What do you think is the best route for us? Should we go through EE or PhD route through me?
2. If we are going through PHD route, what is the possibility of going with my family?
3. If going through scholarship route for PhD, what is the minimum amount of POF required?
4. Is it compulsory to attach CV when emailing supervisors?
Thank you all. |

One of the requirements of a student visa is to clarify intention of returning to home country after the study. With a PSW program, I am not sure that is an acceptable certification in the Nigerian health industry, so how will you say you want to use it when you return? This is going to be a big question mark on your application. Also, it is a Post-secondary certificate level program in most colleges, not even up to a diploma. And you have a Master's, right? Just reiterating already known points for the sake of your immigration history. Think about this very carefully. AbionaT: mcobex thanks so much The course is Personal support worker (acute care, its a year program. I want to know how to write a convincing Sop, and as you earlier advised I don't want to hide the Masters certificate, I have 9 years working experience . Pls if you can help or you know anyone that can help for the SOP. Thanks |

Actually, you're right. Any Postgraduate program is OK for a BSc holder, but nothing less. JustMellow: Hello Hope4brym,
How so on the bolded?
I for one, don't see any redflag for a 2.1 applying for a PGD/C in lieu of a Master. There are too many success stories in the streets for those that trod the path.
Cheers! |

Don't apply for a PGD, admission will be easy but it puts your visa approval at great risk.
Apply instead to either a Master's or Postgraduate Certificate. Any 1-year program gives you 1-year PGWP and any 2-year program gives you a 3-year PGWP.

In theory, that's true. Insanity: Be careful of bonds that compel you to come back after your studies. Most permanent resident routes doesn't support such, if you have any kind of sponsorship or scholarship that requires you to return to your home country, you're automatically not eligible. This is based on information I'm not certain of, please confirm this before you tie yourself to a tree.
Goodluck. |
