DestinationCann: It's really sad. People don't want to make effort. Even those who have all the time in the world to actually do some reading.
That's why agents charge them as high as 500k to secure school admission then go ahead to use fake documents for their Visa applications.
I once gave someone an ebook to guide him/her on how to apply to schools, they came back to say they didn't understand it and I should help them with list if schools. I blocked the person on WhatsApp oo.

1. That is a wonderful course because it is 2 years and have co-op. You did a great job identifying and going for it. When you get to your school, get excellent grade and highlight on your resume during your co-op search. Your co-op will give you the highly valuable Canadian experience.
2. That's a lie. Although minorities, black included, have more unemployment rate, there are several black people in and leading HR departments. In fact, one HR leader in the City of Calagry is a black woman originally from Nigeria. Her name is Adediwura ODIASE, MBA, MSc., CPHR.
The problem most immigrant minority face is that Canadian employers like to build their own leaders and most immigrant come with international experience and education. As such, they end up being over qualified for most entry level position and under qualified (due to lack of Canadian experience) for most senior level position. At the end, the compete heavily for the limited position available for them.
Most masters and PhD graduate, particularly in humanities field, with zero Canadian experience will find it challenging to get a professional job after school. Diploma and bachelor's degree graduate find it easier because of many entry level position. For the masters and phD international student, there are ways to navigate the issue but you won't learn it in school. You will learn them from professionals outside school. So don't just study in school, network with Nigerian and non-nigerian professionals while you are in school. If you find one close enough to you, they might share the tips of getting a professional job in Canada. Thanks for your good responses and insights. Pls what is your take about doing MEng (Course based) at University of Calgary. Is it a good move? |

Yes you are right and that depends on different factors based on each individuals and the school or schools in question
A 2.1 graduate of 5 years study gap might not find it easy to get admission cos of the assumption by a Professor or graduate comitee that such candidate might not have an updated knowledge of what he/she want to come study in Canada most especially if its a thesis based masters program
The work Experience of some 2.1 graduates is not related to what they studied in the university. In the move to get thesis based masters admission that requires a candidate to get a Supervisor (Prof.), that prof. might not be interested in such Candidate
Some 2.1 graduates are going for research interests in a Masters program not related to their degree. Though some do it cos they can tailor their research experience to that non related research interests but some can't cos there is no connection.
Some 2.1 has grade, and in the context of Canada's Graduate School Admission Requirements, there are mostly focus on the CGPA of that 2.1 graduate in his last two years e.g. 400 L & 500 L which must be 70-75%.
Also some 2.1 graduate don't package their application well, they feel only the 2.1 would be sufficient. Thats why lots of Canadian universities ask for ACADEMIC CV (not the conventional CV in Nigeria), and Statement of Purpose for admission which is also called Letter of Intent, Motivation letter etc.
I have a feeling there is more to a 2.1 graduates not able to get admission, await more inputs from the house on that
POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS FOR 2.1 GRADUATES LOOKING FOR MASTERS ADMISSION AND FULLYFUNDED GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES IN A CANADIAN UNIVERSITY OR UNIVERSITIES
You need to package and position yourself before making move on your graduate application cos there are lots of brilliant graduates from different parts of the world you gonna be competing with. So in order to AVOID SUBMITTING ANY HOW and NON-COMPETIVE GRADUATE APPLICATIONS, see this;
- Send COLD MAILS to Profs. you have something in common with in terms of research - Your Research Interests must align with what a Prof. focuses on most especially those of you who want to do thesis-based programs - Do online courses related to your research interests which is to be stated in your ACADEMIC CV, this can boost your admission chances - Attend conferences webinars, workshops etc. related to your research interests for Masters - Your SOP for admission must be well written, proofed read, and plagiarism free - COVER LETTERS to apply for advertised graduate positions (MSC, PHD) - Recommendation letters

Good luck!!!!!
Very detailed. Thanks so much. Although I have always applied to course-based masters programs. Since when my study gap was 2yrs until now it's 6yrs. All reject letters. Let me go with d college first. At least you apply for study permit. While I still apply to 2 other schools for Masters. 1 Like |

Lekiboboe:
That's totally a FALSE STORY
Lot's of folks on this platform and some that I know outside this platform have gotten their visa approved by going for a PG.Cert program. You just have to make sure there is Academic/career progression in what ever program you want to go for
- If your interests is to go for a PG.cert, you have a 2.2 or an HND with no obvious study gaps (like you graduated two to three years ago), you can go for a PG.CERT program related to your degree
- You can also go for a PG.CERT program related to your work experience but doesn't relate to your work experience
Look at this illustration, I graduated with a degree in Microbiology (2.1) with 5 years experience as an Administrative officer. In the above scenario, I can't go for a Microbiology related PGCert program cos of my Study Gap, that being said, I would be looking forward to apply to PG.cert programs such as Human Resources Management (HRM), Public Administration cos it aligns with my 5years work experience as an Administrative Officer.
- 2.1 graduates. Most time, a 2.1 graduate with no study gaps is expected to go for a Masters degree program, but some applicants success stories here have mentioned that they got approval for a PG.CERT program with a 2.1. They stated that they had to convince the VO on their SOP with strong cogent reasons why they are going for a PGcert program.
By the way, there is more to Visa approval than what your question states
E.g
Ties to home country Proof of funds and type of sponsor and lots more.
Await more input from the house on your question.
Good luck.
But not all 2.1 are able to secure Masters admission. Example. Me |

You can pay your deposit and defer the semester to September.
Quite frankly, online studies is not the same as face to face interaction. There’s even a petition by students asking for tuition paid to be refunded.
As for support system, it means having a strong financial backbone. If you intend to work and pay the rest of your tuition fees, this will be an uphill task.
So my advice for you is this, go for your Tb test but defer if you can.
The good thing about the new student route is that you can apply for your visa up to 6 months before resumption.
That simply means anything from March onwards which is just around the corner.
This is not to discourage anyone in anyway as STENON said, the U.K. is open to everybody.
Splendid.. if I can defer without deposit. Will be best for me. So I don't tie down that money. Since I can apply by march for my September start, I think it will be cool. Thanks brother 2 Likes |
