PoliticsRe: Nigeria Warns India Of "Repercussions" Over Goa Face-Off by Howmanage: 7:53pm On Nov 07, 2013
yelsew80: The Nigerian community in India is feeling "aggrieved" after one of its citizens was killed in Goa, Nigeria's high commissioner has told the BBC. Ndubuisi Vitus Amaku said the resort state's subsequent order to deport Nigerians living illegally there was like "rubbing salt on their wounds". Meanwhile, police in Goa have made the first arrest in the murder case. Police blamed the killing on rivalry between local and Nigerian drug traffickers, and Goa's Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar asked the police to track down Nigerians living illegally in the state and deport them.

There are about 40,000 Nigerians living in India and Mr Amaku says he is concerned about the safety of his people.
"Indians need to understand that a large number of Nigerians are living legally in India and even if some are living illegally, there are laws in place to deal with that and those should be implemented," Mr Amaku told BBC Hindi's Divya Arya.

He criticised the Goan authorities for plans to deport those living illegally in India.
"If Nigerians are living illegally you don't wait till their compatriot is murdered before you go around picking them up and threatening them with deportation - that is like rubbing salt on their wounds."

Earlier in the week, another Nigerian diplomat had warned of repercussions against Indians living in Nigeria if Goa did not stop "evicting Nigerians" from the state and failed to arrest the killers.
More than 800,000 Indians live in Nigeria and they own approximately 100,000 businesses there.
Mr Amaku said the official's statement was made in the context of the murder and that he felt "aggrieved" like all other members of the Nigerian community.

Indian foreign ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said he was sure that the row could be settled "amicably".
"We have been assured that the investigation (into the murder) is under way," news agency AFP quoted him as saying.

PoliticsThe Lagos ‘deportation’ Saga And Uke 30 In Anambra State By Joe Igbokwe by Howmanage(op): 12:41pm On Nov 07, 2013
Few months back some mentally challenged indigenes of Anambra were relocated from Lagos to Anambra after months of rehabilitation in Lagos Rehab Centers. The moment the press got wind of it hell was let loose. First Governor Peter Obi wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan that Governor Fashola has deported Ndigbo from Lagos. Governor Obi in the letter did not tell the president that there were correspondences between Lagos State government and Anambra state government on April 9 and April 29 2013 with no response from the government of Anambra state. Governor Obi did not stop there. He ran to Lagos where he made all his money, went straight to Ndigbo Lagos, Ohaneze Lagos and Aka Ikenga and told them that governor Fashola is planning to send Ndigbo packing in Lagos. He told them that Fashola is just trying to test the political waters by sending the mentally challenged people away and that the next port of call is to send every successful Igbo man out of Lagos. I was not at the meeting but I was told that our people were alarmed and furious. For standing beside Fashola because I know a lot is at stake in Lagos, I was called names. I was asked not to venture to come back to Igboland. Aka Ikenga, an intellectual organization Governor Fashola has soft spot for went to town to address a Press Conference, berating the Governor even before going to hear the Governor out.

Ohaneze, Ndigbo Lagos and every other Igbo went to town. The roof was brought down, a vast preponderance of Igbo at home and in diaspora went for governor Fashola’s head. It was war from all corners, in websites, in the social media, pages of newspapers, Radio, TV, in the markets, town meetings, in offices etc, Gov Fashola became the number one enemy of Ndigbo. Governor Fashola was almost physically taken to the slaughter house to be killed. The lynch mob increased by the day and almost put a knife on things that held Yoruba and Igbo together since the 50s. In the midst of all this, I, Ceedon Adinuba and a few others felt the need to stand by governor Fashola, knowing fully well that the lynch mob is constantly jeopardizing Igbo interest in Lagos. Time and space will not permit to discuss Igbo huge interest in Lagos, the magnanimity and friendly deposition of the Yoruba, the huge business empire of our people and the beauty of Lagos. It is a book project for another day.

Our people did not remember that the same Governor Peter Obi who came to Lagos to incite Ndigbo deported citizens to Akwa-Ibom and Ebonyi States in 2011. They did not remember that governor Orji of Abia State sacked 3000 indigenes of Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu states from Abia, sending some of them to untimely deaths. It did not matter to Ndigbo, but Governor Fashola must be crushed for bringing destitute to their home state to re-unite with their people. These ethnic interlopers and warriors led by governor Obi did not stop there. Few weeks back some Charge and Bail lawyers in Onitsha said they have instituted a one billion Naira suite against Governor Fashola for deporting Ndigbo from Lagos. The rest is now history but take notice that all these shenanigans were targeted on Senator Chris Ngige, the APC Governorship aspirant for November 16 Guber Elections in the State.

On Saturday 2nd November 2013 a tragedy occurred in Uke, Anambra State when Governor Peter Obi, APGA Governorship candidate Willie Obiano, APGA National Chairman Chief Victor Umeh and others took their political campaigns to a night vigil at Adoration ground in Uke, Anambra state where Rev. Father Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso) holds forte. About 30 people died as a result of a stampede. The world is yet to know the cause after five days. For the avoidance of doubt people go to night vigil to seek the face of God to solve their life threatening problems – barrenness, HIV/AIDS, cancer, poverty, family problems, unemployment, life partners, safe child delivery, long life, intervention for wives, husbands, children etc.

Night vigil is a place of worship attended by people who seek quiet moments with their Creator, denying themselves night sleep and other comforts. It is not a place for political jamboree. But the desperation of Governor Obi and APGA to get Anambra state by all means led them to Uke and 30 people died thereafter. As I speak their bodies are in the mortuary and the campaigns have been going on as usual as if nothing happened. The heavily compromised Catholic Archbishop Val Okeke has said that there was nothing political about Obi’s presence at the celebration in Uke on that fateful night. The corrupt Archbishop is saying that the tragedy would have happened even if governor Obi and others had not gone there with full APGA campaign regalia. This is unbelievable, unthinkable, and unimaginable, a story told by somebody who cannot get it, full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

Now, I have been waiting like a patient bird for the same lynch mob that took on Fashola to stand up against Governor Obi for causing the deaths of 30 people at a sacred ground in Ukeh, Anambra State. I expect that the charge and bail lawyers in Onitsha will file a two billion naira suit against Gov Obi for causing the death of 30 people in an idiotic and brainless political jamboree. In Uke , I expect Inter-society, Aka-Ikenga, Ohaneze, CLO, MASSOB, Ndigbo Lagos and others who wanted Governor Fashola’s head at all cost to issue a statement condemning the Uke invasion and deaths. I expect the mob bloggers in the internet who wanted Fashola’s head to rise to the occasion. Yes, the TV stations that are keeping quiet now should throw open their doors and let us discuss the tragic incident. Has Governor Peter Obi written to President Jonathan to report himself for taking political campaigns to Adoration ground in Uke and consequently caused the death of 30 poor Nigerians?

Gov Obi, Rev Father Emmanuel Obimma are still playing hide and seek game on what caused this incident. How much did Governor Obi pay Rev. Obimma to mobilize 100,000 men and women for APGA in Uke in a night vigil? If it was truly a night vigil for God, this incident would never have happened. APGA and Governor Obi polluted the sacred ground and hence the tragedy. Our so-called men of God have turned the Church of God into den of robbers and I know that God will fight for Himself in the fullness of time. Let the truth be told about Uke 30!

I love a good write where honesty is the agenda. " To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man."

William Shakespeare

Moreover, that nollywood stuff u mentioned is laughable cos the mainstream (and exported )Nollywood is Igbo culture and nothing else, ranging from the marriage styles to names given to casts, even omotola wl answer ogechi, olu Jacobs, Igwe Ifeka.
Have u ever seen Ngozi Ezeonu eating amala and ewedu in a movie? Whatever happened to Abacha.
.

Ur Yoruba movies, how come they don't move outside Yoruba circles even with the subtitles but an Igbo spoken movie will sell more copies?
Worse still, more yorubas would rather watch Igbo nollywood than those plays u call yoruba films.

malele: Lamido Sanusi has told HARDtalk he will not be entering politics when he ends his term as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

"Being a good central banker does not make you a good politician," he said, adding he had seen enough successful people enter politics only to "destroy everything they have built."

Asked if he could persuaded to change his mind, Mr Sanusi said: "I have been in Abuja long enough to know that I cannot survive for one year in that space."

Good thinking, @Musiwa.
i do agree with the guy a lot, but them he sometimes derails and descends into filthy talk , digression etc My thinking is that he is an intelligent Nigerian elder perhaps bordering on Alzheimer, not being rude, just me assesment. I, for example, was in Elekahia as at 2006, but was never counted.
How could Benue which is just almost like a farm settlement, sparse in population, be more populated than Anambra with serious commercial activities going on in its three cities.

Jacob, who spoke to IANS on his way back to New Delhi after a two-day tour of Goa, also said that police had been going from home to home in places where Nigerians resided and were forcibly evicting them out.

"They are evicting Nigerians forcibly. There is no rule of law," the attache said.

One of those suffering the brunt of the forcible eviction is Chioma Ghansoli, a 24-year-old Nigerian living in Anjuna. On Monday morning, Chioma Ghansoli's landlord asked her to move out of the rented house by the end of the day and she has nowhere to go for the night but the beach, where she plans to spend the night, in absence of a roof over her head.

"My landlord said all the 'blacks' had to be evicted on police instructions. I have nowhere to go in Goa. Me and my friends will spend the night at the beach tonight with our luggage," Chioma said.

She added that locals had begun to specifically target Africans racially chiding them for being of black persuasion. Jacob also that said a resolution passed by a local panchayat headed by the wife of a BJP legislator, Michael Lobo, banning Nigerians from the village should be withdrawn.

I get scared whenever i see these type of assertions that are not based on fact. Scared that it will end up in some western newspaper trying to make their readers laugh. Igbos are really Jews, Yorubas are really Egyptians, please you people should try na. Nigerians are already known as 419 capital, we don't need to add Laughing Stock of the World too... How embarassing that some dont have any self belief/esteem always got to try and tag themselves to other nations who won't touch you with a stick angry

yes maybe in another 200 years. Can we really afford to put our generations through such a long and tortuous journey? For the sake of what exactly? To make colonists who created Nigeria proud? To simply break our necks and ruin our childrens future trying prove that we can stay together? I don't understand this hysteria about keeping Nigeria together when its clearly not working
CultureRe: Igbos And Yorubas: A Cultural Comparison. by Howmanage: 11:23pm On Nov 04, 2013
0monnakoda: The Ibo nation is too small and inchoate culturally to compare itself to Yoruba. Ibo should compare themselves with the likes of Efik,Urhobo,Isoko etc those are nations of similar size and political development. They did not advance from the Umunna or tribal level of political organization before colonization and there is really no history to talk about.
Is there any account of any Ibo Nation that anyone can tell us here. The simple answer is No. A very loud Mba!!
Is there anyone trying to copy Ibo culture ,learn Ibo language or Ibonize ? I doubt tht very much .No one wants to copy the Ibo ways or style. I certainly am not planning to buy any red baby hats

I cant verify how accurate the comparisons are but one thing i know for sure is that we love each other and thats a fact. Despite the protests, accusations, insults etc Yoruba and Igbo seem unable to do with the other. Once we separate from Nigeria and stop competing so closely i am sure it will dawn on us all.
