Like I always say, we Africans like to take things to the extreme. I doubt if this mummy daddy thing in some of our churches exist in other continents. Respect must be given to those in higher authority as you rightly said but the manner of presentation should be at an individual"s discretion.
However.....priests are called Father in catholic churches.....

Personally I like OBJ although I know he is not a saint. He was a leader Nigeria needed at the time, if his downfall will set all the old brigade tumbling, am all for it. However, if his felling is isolated then we are in for a longer ride. Not sure GEJ has what is required to head a country like Nigeria. Its worrying that all the PDP cronies are decamping to APC.

FamilyRe: Help! Is My Husband Marrying A Second Wife? by Howmanage: 7:16pm On Dec 21, 2013
I had a cousin in this situation, not white though. An elderly aunt advised her that if she still loved him and wanted him she should stay, because if he is an adulterer he will always find a way to cheat. She was advised to take precautions to safeguard her health (condoms) and finances while maintaining good relations with her hubby that is no rows over other women. With time, she would gain the strength to either outlast the other woman, or to wean herself of the man and walk out

walex_biz: HABA MUSIWA, I ALWAYS RESPECT YOUR VIEW WITH REGARDS TO NATIONAL ISSUES, BUT ON THIS ONE I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOU. I WILL LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOU COME TO THIS CONCLUSION, BECAUSE YOU ONLY SHOWED THE PICTURE OF A TARRED ROAD AND A NEW STADIUM BUILT BY THE IBORI ADMINISTRATION AND YOU ASSUME THAT HE HAS OUTPERFORMED TINUBU ON ALL CRITERIA.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, I WILL LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS THE STAFF STRENGHT OF DELTA STATE AND LAGOS STATE CIVIL SERVICE, WHAT IS THE IGR OF BOTH STATE AND WAS THERE ANYTIME THAT THE DELTA STATE LOCAL GOVERNMENT FEDERAL ALLOCATION WAS SEIZED? IT IS WHEN ALL THIS PARAMETER ARE TAKEN INTO PERSPECTIVE AND THEN COMPARE THAT YOU CAN THEN TAKE A POSITION, BUT IF YOU JUST SAY BECAUSE YOU VISIT DELTA STATE AND SEE ONE TARRED ROAD AND A STADIUM THEN YOU ASSUME THAT IBORI HAS PERFORMED BETTER THAN TINUBU THEN YOU ARE WRONG.

THE TINUBU ADMINISTRATION HAD THE HIGHEST CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEE IN ITS FOLD IN NIGERIA, THEY WERE PAID REGULARLY, IT HAD ITS LOCAL GOVERNMENT FEDERAL ALLOCATION SEIZED JUST BECAUSE ITS ADMINISTRATION ESTABLISHED THE LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA AND THERE WAS NO STOPPAGE OF WORK AT THE LOCAL GOVT AS A RESULT OF THE SEIZURE.

THE WAEC EXAMINATION OF ALL PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENT WERE PAID DURING THE TINUBU REGIME AND ITS STILL ONGOING TILL TODAY I DO NOT KNOW IF SUCH IS GOING ON IN DELTA STATE. FROM SECONDARY SCHOOL TO PRIMARY SCHOOL DOWNWARD ARE FREE AND TERTIARY INSTITUTION WERE PAYING AROUND N150 BEFORE HE LATER INCREASED IT TO N25,000 AND THE FASHOLA ADMINISTRATION INCREASED IT TO BETWEEN N170,000 - N250,000. ALSO DURING MILLENIUM SCHOOLS WHERE BUILT DURING ITS ADMINISTRATION.

THE TINUBU ADMINISTRATION ALSO INTRODUCED THE LAGOS STATE TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT AGENCY TO STEM DOWN THE TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK IN THE STATE WHICH OTHER STATE ARE EMULATING AND OBASANJO TRIED TO DISBAND IT FOR PERSONAL REASON, ALSO THE TINUBU REGIME INTRODUCE KAI AND OTHER AGENCIES, ALL THESE AGENCIES EMPLOYED PEOPLE WHO WERE PAID REGULARLY AND ALL THESE WHERE DONE AND WHILE STILL PAYING LOCAL GOVERNMENT STAFF WHOSE ALLOCATION WERE WITHELD BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

HE REPAIRED THE OREGUN ROAD AND ALSO TARRED ALOT OF RAOD ALONG ALIMOSHO CORRIDOR. THESE ARE THE LITTLE I KNOW ABOUT THE TINUBU ADMINISTRATION BUT THESE DOES NOT EXONERATE HAS BEEN CORRUPT. IF WE WANT TO TAKE A DECISION WITH REGARDS ELECTED PERSON WE NEED TO TAKE COMPREHENSIVE LOOK AT CONDITIONS AT THAT TIME BEFORE WE BEGIN TO MAKE ANY PRONOUNCEMENT.

PoliticsRe: Gej's 2015 Ambition Will Lead To Civil War by Howmanage: 9:44am On Dec 20, 2013
Donmams: All these comments about GEJ till 2019 or 2050 are made just to spite the north and the south west. Ironically the north and south west have 80% of the country's voting strength. I wonder how power drunk GEJ thinks he's going to win elections when he's successfully alienated the two biggest voting blocs in the country. I think GEJ has no intention of conducting free elections which explains why he treats these two regions with utmost disdain. It is becoming apparent that GEJ believes that nothing will stop him from rigging the 2015 elections. Which is why he thinks he doesn't need the PDP, the north nor the south west. His body language tells me that GEJ is ready to plunge the country to war if his attempts to rig are unsuccessful. However i foresee this turning out very bad for GEJ, the south south and south east. I just hope nigerians are ready for another civil war in 2015.

However let me be clear about something. The north has had enough. We faced Igbo treachery in 1966 and still forgave the igbos. This time around, the north will not forgive the south east and their south south brothers. As soon as the SS/SE fire the first shots of the 2015 civil war the north will destroy most of the SE/SS with the exception of rivers and imo. The few people that will remain will be treated as slaves and second class citizens. We will show these arrogant SS/SE that the north can be more aggressive than the tiger.
Rubbish! War? I don't agree...what a hateful post... Then again this is Nairaland. Seems Arewaland website is also required ...

itsrandeeboi: I am quite sure that i'm not the first person to write about this but I certainly would like to be the last. I read through the following thread with concern https://www.nairaland.com/1561102/34-year-old-enugu-ebonyi-bridge-collapses seeing how people who claim to be educated spout crass stupidity on a public forum. I mean, someone posted news of a collapsed bridge and all some people could think about is how to make it a tribal thing? Are some people high or just dumb? These are people who claim to have degrees, who claim to be good parents to their children but when they go online, they display such an amazing lack of intelligence that leaves one wondering.
I agree with the op. It has become very boring tit for tat. Wish people would let the tit for tat go with 2013 and we start 2014 with a truce. Not to say you cant criticize others constructively or even according to your own agenda but would be better to do so with some sophistication rather than bleep this and that, curse this and that , coward here , thief there blah blah blah very low level communication.
PoliticsRe: Another Look At President Jonathan’s Achievements by Howmanage: 10:40am On Dec 19, 2013
theshadyexpress: We have upgraded to serve you better.
BY NWAFILI ANENE
THE present democratic dispensation is about 14 years old. President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan’s election to the seat of power is symbolic, representing a paradigm shift, a renaissance, a new age, a new Nigeria. The revolution that Nigeria desires is silently taking place. Since the beginning of his administration just about two years ago, the emphasis has been on transformation: transformations of the way government businesses are carried out, attitudinal change, and value orientation.
His administration is characterized by silent revolutionary zeal. There is no noise or media hype of what is going on. President Jonathan has shown the ability to provide solutions to hydra-headed nagging national problems. His rule has touched on all aspects of the economy.
Now, what are those things that the Jonathan administration has achieved? Specifically and verifiable too, are;
• The first President and non-muslim to build Almajiri schools throughout Northern Nigeria. Until now, no government at state and local levels have deemed it fit that these Nigerians deserve rehabilitation.
• He took the courage to unbundle the Power Holding Company of Nigeria. We believe that very soon Nigerians will begin to see the effects of this bold step.
• Restoration of the railway system. The system has been moribund for the past 20 years. Feasibility of three others to open new railway corridors, which will be concessioned to local and foreign investors. Expected to create 10 million new jobs and cause inflow of 200 billion dollars investment into the country. Now, go and see these for yourself:
* Lagos-Kano train service is now fully operation after being moribund for more than 15 years
* Eastern rail line from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri
* Zaria/Kaura Namoda rail route
* Abuja to Kaduna 187 kilometre rail line
* Ajaokuta-Warri Standard Gauge Rail line
* Lagos-Ibadan new gauge rail line
• About 90% of 22 airports earmarked for rehabilitation and remodelling completed.
• Agricultural production has increased.
* Eliminating the corruption in the fertilizer distribution system, thereby ending the over forty year old racket and government subsidization of corruption
* The government intervention in rice production and other such initiatives resulted in the creation of more than two million new jobs among rural dwellers
* Cocoa export reached the highest level thereby creating a new set of millionaires. 900 million dollars worth of Cocoa exported, as non-oil revenue first time in decades
* Anticipated annual earnings of $136 million in foreign exchange from cassava which was exported for the first time in 2012 under the Vale Chain Addition programme of the Federal Government.
• Massive rehabilitation of roads throughout the country is ongoing via Subsidy Reinvestment Programme SURE-P. Checkout the following roads
* Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja;
* Benin-Ore-Sagamu dual carriageway;
* Onitsha-Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway;
* Kaduna-Maiduguri dual carriageway;
* East-West Road
* Amongst others
• The SURE-P projects resulted from the partial removal of the subsidy on petroleum products:
* 500 Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the 36 states and FCT of the Federation
* Selection of 125 General Hospitals across the 36 states and the FCT
* Training of Nigerians across the federation on skill acquisition.
* Over 5000 jobs created in the health sector alone.
* Many more in the road maintenance sector.
• National dialogue
* This is a bold step to reinvent Nigeria
* For the first time, the no-go area clause is thrown into the dustbin, creating an atmosphere for Nigerians to sit down to jaw-jaw instead the war-war.
* To allow Nigerians define their own brand of democracy suitable to our diversity
• Upholding democratic tenets
* First President to declare a state of emergency without sacking democratically elected governments
* First President to embrace and brook opposition without the usual coercion using the Federal apparatus
* The most misunderstood, insulted and criticized, yet has remained focused without the usual abuse of office by use of ALL MEANS AVAILABLE.
We hope that this will culminate in a Nigeria where every citizen’s potential would be maximally exploited for the benefit of the country. If you can run, you will be encouraged to run very well; if you can jump, you will be encouraged; whatever you can do, you will be made to do it very well.
President Goodluck Jonathan has shown the road map to good leadership, which is the bane of the Nigeria project. He has consistently shown
• Commitment and respect to the rule of law
• Commitment to conducting free and fair election
• Commitment to participatory approach to resolving national issues
• Commitment to govern within the premise of the constitution of Nigeria
• Commitment to accountability as indicated by the performance contract signed by members of his cabinet and their subsequent presentation of performance card.

PoliticsRe: Iyabo Obasanjo's Letter To Her Father by Howmanage: 10:18am On Dec 18, 2013
@steveregs:
There are many possible reactions to this letter. I will state mine, and why the bulk of reactions given here are not helping.

The letter is a response to Fmr. President Obasanjo's open letter to the President. This letter in it's entirety may be true (I actually think it is true). This letter goes a long way to show the kind of family life Fmr. President Obasanjo had. I also, sorry to add, subscribe to her opinion that Nigerians are guilty of desiring change, but not willing to do what is required to achieve it; and, not letting -- actually crucifying people who work hard with skills they possess to change Nigeria on altars of maintaining status quo and keeping things the way they are, believing that one day they will be in government and have access to steal funds that they will never be called on to account for.

Having said this, I will come to the crux of the matter on ground, which happens to be the reason I took my time to write this: this letter does not, in any way, discredit the issues (and that's putting it mildly, for 'problem' is a better word in this case) Fmr. President Obasanjo raised in his own letter. I took my time to study both letters and I have been particularly careful to note that Fmr. President Obasanjo's letter contains issues that, as he rightly put it, will lead Nigeria right back to the Abacha era and what characterized it. Senator Iyabo's letter, however, appears to only say that President Obasanjo has no moral grounds based on his family matters on ground to compose such a letter. I will not take sides with anyone. I will only say that everybody has skeletons in his closet. If risking the exposure of your skeletons will bring about a greater good by telling the outright truth, not behind the person in question but to the person's face, then Fmr. President Obasanjo should be credited for his brave and daring efforts at writing this letter. Someone quoted J.K. Rowling in the comments. Please note that the same celebrity author also said, "it is honourable to stand up to your enemies, but of even greater honour it is to stand up to your friends." Senator Iyabo, being a doctor trained in the US should be knowledgeable enough to acknowledge that things are not right -- or even close -- in this country. I've learned to put family differences and assertions aside when dealing with political matters because we all are imperfect people. If someone is not great at keeping his/er family together or treating them as s/he ought but can provide good governance, "for the greater good" s/he should be allowed to rule. For instance, the late Nelson Mandela was a divorcee but is celebrated today as one of the greatest men the world has ever seen. Fmr. President Bill Clinton was an adulterer having been in an affair with an intern in the White House, but today he is acknowledged as a great President and leader of the United States in his time.

No one is perfect, let us give people their chances to work for the greater good. This is key.

This dispensation is said to be democratic. If this is so, let us, for our own good, decide if we are going to continue in this same path, or fight for the change we so desire. If egos will be sacrificed then so be it. We cannot just sit and fold our hands and watch the treasury be looted, or investors leave the country for lack of basic infrastructure to ease operations, or security policies continually being used when they obviously are not working anymore and persons in charge are apparently too feeble and indecisive to change them.

Being loyal does not mean when my integrity is called into question, or my relationship with God Almighty is about to be affected negatively by my loyalty, that I will continue to follow blindly, searing my conscience for whatever financial or sentimental gains I may have in the future. One governor starts the revolution against disservice and injustice against the people, financial looting, untamed corruption, indecisiveness and slow actions, and we all predict doom for him just because, as they say, "you cannot fight the Federal Government and get away with it." But, the very same people are hailing Nelson Mandela, William Wallace, Ken Saro-Wiwa, just to mention a few, for their acts of bravery in bringing the much-desired change thy fought for and paid for in no small measures, some even going as far as dying for their Country.

Let us know, that in all, and after this, comes the judgment. One day we will all stand before the righteous Judge and give account for our statements, actions and inactions (what we did and failed to do), thoughts, and how well we spent our time here on earth.

God bless Nigeria.
well said , if i had read this i wouldn't have bothered posting my comment!
PoliticsRe: Iyabo Obasanjo's Letter To Her Father by Howmanage: 10:09am On Dec 18, 2013
My take is that she did write the letter in a moment of impulse, it is a heartfelt missive and must be something of a therapy for her hence the scattered grammatical errors here and there. I am proud of her. She has the courage to break familial bonds and speak out for what she believes to be the truth not minding whose ethnic or political or paternal ox is gored. I have to say that rather than a disgrace or abomination this is typical of the tolerant nation she belongs to being one where each man or woman feels emboldened and to have his or her say whether it is "off message"or not. This trait is rarer among the other nations that make up Nigeria.

Some of what Obasanjo said could be true, so also some or indeed all of what she said too . Let's hope she sets the ball rolling for responsible people to break out and speak up in public against bad politicians and bad politics in Nigreria. Well done Ms IOB !
