The Supreme Court has on Tuesday affirmed the victory of Yahaya Bello as Governor of Kogi State, following the dismissal of all appeals. The Appeals were filed by ex-Governor Idris Wada and the former deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), James Faleke. A third appeal, from the candidate of the Labour Party in the elections held on November 21, 2015. The seven-man panel headed by Justice Sylvester Ngwata gave this ruling after listening to the closing statements of all the counsels. After emerging from a recess, the Justices dismissed the appeals challenging INEC’s decision to return Mr. Bello. The court also dismissed the application by the Africa Democratic Congress challenging the qualification of Mr Bello. A similar application by the Labour Party was also struck out. A Nigerian medical doctor based in the United States of America, Godwin Maduka, is currently constructing a mega structure intended to be used as a specialist Orthopaedic hospital in his Umuchukwu community in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state. The edifice still under construction and which is being erected singlehandedly by Dr Maduka will be equipped with state of art facilities and provide jobs to qualified Nigerians at home and abroad, NDIBE.ORG gathered. Umuchukwu, a boundary community between Anambra and Abia State, is relatively rural. Dr Godwin Maduka who is also an entrepreneur and owns the Las Vegas Pain Institute in Nevada, United States is well known as a philanthropist who has assisted the less privileged in his community and state on several occasions. In 2015, he built no fewer than 100 bungalows for widows and other indigent persons in his Umuchukwu community. He demolished all 100 mostly thatched houses, replacing them with three or four bedroom bungalows, complete with green aluminium roofing sheets, the community residents confirmed. When interviewed, Maduka explained his philanthropic gesture, saying, “I embarked on all these to save my people from my ugly experience while growing up. I grew up in a home that when it rained, it rained more inside the house. ‘’Wealth would be meaningless if it cannot be used to better the lives of the people around the custodian. ‘’The wealthy must provide jobs for the youths; build skills acquisition centres for willing adults, market stalls for men and women, if society must be secure,” he said. His Personal Assistant, Vincent Otaokpukpu told our correspondent that “Maduaka has opened up Umuchukwu by building schools, hospitals, churches, security posts, industries, police station with modern working tools.” ‘’He believes that government alone cannot give resounding development due to its meagre resources when compared to the volume of social, economic amenities expected by the people. ‘’Umuchukwu, one of the most backward and remote communities in the state, was totally denied any meaningful government attention. Nkerehi, as it was then called, was in abysmal destitution. Otaokpukpu maintained that Maduka’s gesture compelled former governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, to construct two roads connecting Umuchukwu with other communities. ‘’When the foundation visited then governor Obi at the government house in Awka with the pathetic story of the absence of roads in the area, it promised to finance 50 per cent of the road contract, while the state would pay 50 per cent. He said, “Obi, moved by such an offer, decided to visit the community himself and what he saw overwhelmed him and he took sole responsibility of building the two roads alone. ‘’The foundation has also built community centre, post office, a state High Court, and provided transformers for electricity, primary and secondary schools, civic centre and so on. PRESS RELEASE APC NIGER’S CANDID ADVICE TO GOVERNOR BELLO ON SALARY ISSUE Our attention has been drawn to the 50% salary payments to Niger State Civil Servants. Honestly, we are not happy with this decision. This is regrettable and unfortunate. Our dear Governor, this is not fair in view of the current hardship facing our nation. This is not the right time to take this decision. If you cannot pay the 18% minimum wage, then we urge you to pay civil servants their full entitlements. Our dear Governor, civil servants should not be the only institution to pay the ultimate price for the state’s shrinking revenue. You need to visit the market and see prices of goods and services, particularly food stuff and fuel, which we believe you are aware of. Beware of YES men around you, be very careful, do not allow bad advice mislead you. We in the APC family are seriously disturbed and sincerely concerned about your actions regarding this decision. We are worried about the negative impact this decision might create for you and our dear party. At least you could have made proper arrangements or prior notice to the workers before embarking on this kind of decision that is alien to our people. Our candid advice to you is, please reverse this decision. We believe you can do better than this. There are better options and solutions to our problems. Our dear Governor, what happened to the Federal Government bailout funds, state internally generated revenue and our resources corruptly taken away by the past administration? What is being done to recover the embezzled funds? FG bailout is not a burden on the state but a sense of relief if you make proper use of it. Efficient management of funds is key to our success. We can understand some projects are going on in the state. We expect you to prioritise your projects. You should concentrate on most important, urgent and pressing projects for now. Do you think interlocking projects going on in Minna is urgent and pressing for now, with the current situation? Please reconsider some of these projects and get honest consultants. Our dear Governor, revenue generation is very vital to the success of your administration. Our state is blessed with so many investment and tourism resources that can generate revenue to take care of our financial needs. You must position the state revenue agency to perform effectively. You must invest resources in tourism to generate revenue for the state. We can understand that then past government neglected investments and tourism potentials of the state due to lack of focus, carelessness and mismanagement in spite of huge resources available to them. You should be the first to make history. Provide enabling environment for businesses to strive in the state by attracting investment. Turn around all the agencies that generate revenue to boost our revenue generation. Our dear Governor, consider looking into some of our resources taken away by the past governments, with a strong and sincere commitment to recovering them. Niger State must survive and must stop depending on federal allocation to survive. In fact it is a shame on us to be unable to pay salaries. According to a source who sent in a message to NDIBE.ORG, some soldiers in the early hours of today Monday, invaded St Francis Catholic Church where hundreds of MASSOB/IPOB members were camped in preparation for today’s memorial rally, and released teargas canisters. They also shot LIVE bullets. There was said to be pandemonium as the pro-Biafrans scampered for safety. Four people have been reported dead according to our sources. Another source who sent a message from Eke Nkpor said that the Nigerian Army had positioned their guns, asking passers-by to raise their hands as they passed. There is general tension in the Nkpor area as at the time of filing this report. In recognition of his personal integrity, exemplary leadership style and courage to fight terrorism in order to ensure peace and safety in Africa, President Muhammadu Buhari was on Monday in Malabo conferred with the highest national honour of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. This was disclosed in a statement through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina. The statement through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina added that the honour of “Gran Collar De La Orden De La Independencia” translated “Grand Collar of the Order of the Independence” was conferred on President Buhari by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea at the Presidential Palace. At the investiture ceremony, President Buhari said the recognition was for the people of Nigeria who had worked tirelessly to sustain peace in the country and across other neighbouring countries in Africa. “On behalf of my country, Nigeria, and the people, I will like to express profound gratitude for the honour given to me and my people. The reality of the situation now is that there had never been a time in history for greater neighbourliness, for security and economic stability than now,” he said. The President said the challenges faced by African countries had a common thread, and must be collectively appraised and jointly tackled by all the African countries. President Buhari assured that Nigeria would always support efforts of ensuring socio-political and economic stability of its neighbours and the entire African continent. Earlier in his remarks, President Mbasogo said it was an honour for his country to confer the Highest National Honour on President Buhari on his first visit to the country. “We are here to recognise the son of the soil. On this occasion, we deem it fit and appropriate to decorate the son of Africa for the great work he is doing in Africa, which includes tackling a great menace to the continent, Boko Haram,” he said. The President pledged his country’s support to Nigeria in the fight against insurgency and other security challenges. Source: http://www.ndibe.org/2016/03/buhari-bags-highest-national-award-in.html

KADUNA – The Kaduna State University lecturer, Dr John Danfulani who was arrested last week on allegations of hate speech on social media has been granted bail, ndibe.org gathers. Recall that on Saturday last week, the magistrate of the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Kaduna, Alhaji Awwal Musa while presiding over the case had denied bail to Dr Danfulani arguing that the police had not finished their investigation yet, and as such, Danfulani be remanded in police custody. He also said that further investigation must be concluded in the matter latest by Monday, 1st February, 2016. However ndibe.org learnt from an eye witness at the Chief Magistrate Court 1 which is located at Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna, that the prosecution bungled the process thereby flouting the Court Order of Friday 29th January 2016 mandating it to conclude its alleged investigation of Dr. John Danfulani the accused person before the Court. The counsel for the prosecution further went ahead to aver that they were unable to conclude their investigations as the Telecommunications Service providers were inaccessible to them over the weekend to access some information needed to back up their claims and thus they required more time to conclude their investigations. ‘’This is despite the fact that the Alleged Materials, (phone Sets & Laptop) allegedly used by the accused in committing the said offences he is being charged with were confiscated by the Police during a search at the accused's premises earlier,’’ our source said. After Barrister Gamaliel Kore, leading other six defending counsels raised their objections in line with their legal submissions, the presiding Judge after listening to both sides ruled that Dr Danfulani be set free on bail pending the concluding of investigations.
