nelszx: This should be our midfield trio but sentiment will not allow Rohr drop Ogenyi Onazi for Ogu but he should try it out. My fear is our LB and RB pairing cos they'd have a handful from Bassagog. Hopefully Leon can make Ekong be his usual self again. bros abeg...though I don't really fancy onazi's game presently.....we need a player...so good in tackles for the DM slot...that's why either of onazi or ndidi ought to play that match..... Ogu...can later come in for Mikel... not forgetting Mikel is just recuperating from injury so leaving the DM role just for him to handle or pairing him wit a player more offensive minded will over burden him....he needs to be relieved too moreover we are considering iwobi plying the midfield....too |

Mickael2: personally for me, with a good creative AMF I don't think we need a creative CMF at all. Rakitic is obviously not creative, Kroos isn't all that creative himself although you can argue that Modric is also a CMF but generally CMFs don't need to be creative.
but now let's look at a situation where we might probably need a creative CMF, I think thinking outside the box is required here. Nwakali plays more like an AMF so he is out. in that case I think Ajagun is another creative CMF. If you search far and wide, we have zero Nigerians playing the CMF role for their teams bar Ajagun and since nobody wants to invite Ajagun I still think we can make do with what we have. I like being realistic, Rohr no offence is a limited coach so we know his starting eleven will still be his starting eleven. So we have Iwobi, Karo, Mikel, Onazi/Ndidi vying for the DMF, the CMF, the AMF and the LWF. now for Mikel to truly play the AMF well we need another good player playing as the CMF. at the Olympics we saw what happened when Azubuike was suspended, Mikel didn't really make his mark in that game. against Algeria too Etebo was the guy working with him and it made sense. but we are faced with the issue of Iwobi not being a good LWF( or please is it LMF? I don't even know if we are playing 4-3-3 or 4-5-1) so we need Etebo there. instead of trying to make Iwobi play Etebo's role I think he should take up that AMF while Mikel takes the CMF but problem is that Mikel isn't the type of CMF that will Sprint forward to come and join the attack, he has his own pace and that will create a huge workload for. Iwobi so I general Iwobi does not suit the system, however I can bet a 1000pounds with anyone here that Iwobi will start that game come August.
and meanwhile Iwobi started as an AMF literally CMF. the game where he played as the CMF he wasn't great I watched it and to think that it was against a low opposition shows just how good he is there considering the Cameroonians stubborn defense... I will want two creative players ply the midfield.... should aluko be invited that will be just fine...but I don't see that happening.... so iwobi playing the AM role .and Mikel the CM will bring forth passes to unlock the Cameroonians defense....not forget...Mikel good in some long range passes too that will enable our wingers and forward excel.... my only problem wit their combination is that there will likely be dearth of long range shots...when the need arises... considering the fact that both players not really into such kind of play when there is need for it.....that's why aluko is also needed.... |

Icon4s: Well, I understand our fears especially after the SA game. You don't try an UNTESTED player in a position in a big game. It shows we are coming to a landing on that issue as it caused several debates in the past.
Now the issue of Iwobi, if you recall my comment on it. I said I was just pondering on it. The thing is a CM needs to be a very creative player. Etebo is more of a forward direct player that with a very organized defense he cannot link up play with the attackers. Iwobi is more creative than Etebo. The creativity that Mikel brings for instance is what set him apart as an AM or CM for Nigeria even though he is a DM at Club level.
Etebo to me does better as a winger than as an AM or CM.
Now to set the records straight Alex Iwobi started off as a CM in Arsenal. The competition at the Center (Carzola, Wilshire, Ramsey, Arteter) made Wenger to draft him to the wings. Iwobi played as a CM in one of the cup games (I think Capital one cup) last season.
Mikel started off as an AM in his early years but got converted to a DM at Chelsea. But that AM instinct is still there in him.
It is the job of the coaches to understudy high potential players and see how best to utilize their potentials and not just to throw them straight to the bench just like the Iheanacho calls.
The Super Eagles team needs a very creative central midfielder. I hope Kelechi Nwakali too learns the ropes quickly.
cc: Michael2 why not leave Mikel in the CM...because of his defensive qualities and long range passes and then place iwobi in the AM role having two creative players in the midfield will be a plus to the team... that's why I would have want aluko too....he can as well come in as a sub for iwobi |

TheSuperNerd: Mehn Sir Royalty.... I am cool ooo...
It just makes me shake my head at the nonsense logical shape-shifts some people come up with here just to put down Nacho. Mikel was also put down in the same manner and now their eyes don clear.
You give them facts and stats that are impossible to debate against and you will still see them debate just for debate's sake. Not that they have a strong case sef.
Can't we analyse Nigerian football with keen objectivity and Truthful knowledge of the team's strengths and weaknesses?
And about pairing Nacho and Kayode... well... that is a possibility for maybe later. But truth is, in the long run, like Sir TheGoodJoe, I see an Osimhen rising strong and may pair Nacho for the future of the Nigerian attack or even displace him depending on the formation going into that future period.
But until then, the attack is what it is and the best we have for now is Iheanacho. yeah...oshimen is the kid brother... nacho...I don't think can be displaced for now or in the future should he keep up wit his development... I for see him reversing to the SS role and oshimen taking the cf role....that's why I pray these Leicester move for nacho come to pass... an SS role will bring out the best from that kid and show the man city faithfuls their ignorance of the lad potentials... |

Icon4s: Bros if you have been on this thread long enough you'll know I should be the last moniker to hype Iheanacho.
I know how I continuously poured cold water on guys here hyping Iheanacho putting him on the same level, if not above, Messi and Ronaldo.
But, I can tell you that though Iheanacho may not presently be looking like a player that would take the world by storm as earlier predicted, he is our most lethal striker. It is no hype.
Create chances for Iheanacho to score and see whether he wouldn't rattle the net severally.
Our opponents now know that Iheanacho needs the balls to score. Cut him off supply and he will be a passenger on the field.
Now what I expected of the technical crew is to device a set up that will make the midfield and AM creative enough to dis-organize our opponent's midfield and defense and Iheanacho will continuously find himself in good scoring positions. You saw how Chile did this against Cameroon and Vargas, but for his poor finishing, would have scored at least 3 goals that night.
Sending Iheanacho to the bench and fielding another striker without our midfield and AM being creative enough is like moving from frying pan to fire.
Talking about creativity that is why I am not just of the opinion that Iwobi should be sent to the bench against Cameroon. Apart from physicality you also need creativity to beat a team like Cameroon. I have severally thought of Iwobi being played as the CM and Ndidi DM and Mikel as the AM.
Iwobi hardly makes wrong passes. His through balls are almost always perfect. He is a more creative player than Etebo. Etebo can play from the wings while Iwobi plays the CM role. Mikel and Ndidi to provide physical support to Iwobi. oga icon this your point catch my eye nor be small.... especially your words on iwobi, ndidi, Mikel and etebo...roles in the team oga experience to be true....you need to be a member amongst SE backroom staff. I wish rohr know this...players positioning and strategy you just revealed... but on nacho...playing the CF role....I still have my reservations though I watched him and oshimen under 17 highlights yesterday.... I was thrilled I just pray oshimen grows to be that lethal finisher... both of them playing that attacking role wit nacho behind the lad.....will be something Nigerians will never love to forget |

TheSuperNerd: Listen up Mister.... as far as truth and logic go... you are the one typing utter trash and beautiful nonsense.
You see a stat of a player who is undisputably the deadliest Striker in the EPL... and you come out to say rubbish about how many off-targets he's had.
What about how many off-targets the likes of Aguero, Kane, Lukaku, Costa and Sanchez have mustered?
Every time you drop an argument it is to water down Iheanacho's quality.... isn't that the truest definition of Rubbish analysis??
You type good and slot in terms just to sound smart like you are saying something sensible when all you say is just hell bent on watering down the top quality of a player like Iheanacho.
Man... stop acting like a pseudointellectual.... and man up to the truth.
And what does Kayode's speed gotta do with anything special?? Usain Bolt is fast... does it make him a good footballler??
And noooo... Kayode cannot press like Nacho. Cannot finish like Nacho.... Cannot do consistent Off the ball movements like Nacho and is not faster than Nacho... he and Nacho are almost same level in pace... you keep typing with Blindfolds. If Nacho isn't fast how come he could keep up with City's high octane counter attacks whenever he played?? If he isn't fast how come many media houses and analysts always talk about how Pacy and quick he is??
It is almost as if when you watch Nacho, you deliberately don't see some things ... why?? because you have a very biased mind towards Nacho and it has been there from the first day you walked into this thread. Same thing about Mikel who you blatantly said was useless and not needed in the team. But I don't see you picking om Mikel anymore because it has dawned on your biased self that Mikel is the heart of our team.
Kayode came in and had two shots... bla bla bla... did he convert?? Did he score?? He came up against a defence that has been working tirelessly all 90mins and he, looking all fresh.. huffed and puffed as usual... and you wanna make a silly case with that??
Oga.... just take a hike.
Iheanacho over Kayode on all counts. Even in Jupiter. I mean what rubbish comparison. Saying Kayode can do better... chaaaiiiiii... pseudointellectual talk. Just sit down and eat that humble pie. Just cannot fathom going for something less than the best we have..... #Shocking oga supernerd take am easy......we just hoping to watch both players(kayode and nacho) pair someday with Mikel in the midfield..... |

The build up play you guys are always making reference to was it not bc of the Zambia game? Apart from that Zambia game please make reference to any other games Ideye was involved in any build up play worthy of note. When Mikel is in that AM position which forward player will not have a good build up play? If you recall in that Zambia game both Iheanacho and Iwobi were also involved in build up plays orchestrated by Mikel.
That's why I say put a very Lethal Iheanacho in front of Mikel the orchestrator. I see reason with you...though I remember ideye never had one attempt on goal even the glaring chance that was ruled off side he missed it I just like his work rate... |
