The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited is to provide a 15-year In-Orbit Test (IOT) and Carrier Spectrum Monitoring (CSM) services for the Belarus satellite, following its emergence as the winner of the bid submitted by many countries, a top management staff of NIGCOMSAT announced in Abuja yesterday.
The Belintersat-1 satellite management deal would fetch millions of dollars for the country and also provide hundreds of jobs for Nigerian engineers, NIGCOMSAT’s Managing Director,
Ms Abimbola Alale, who was represented by the agency’s Strategic Adviser, Tibaomi Okujagu, told journalists during a media tour of the agency’s facilities in Abuja.
Belintersat-1 will be launched on January 16 2016 in China by China Great Wall Industries Corporation (CGWIC) and will thereafter be managed from Abuja by Nigerian engineers at NIGCOMSAT for undisclosed fee.
“This is a big feat for Nigeria and clearly shows that NIGCOMSAT, and indeed Nigeria, has developed the capacity to provide highly technical services in the satellite communication industry,” said Ms Alale.                        
Earlier, engineers AbdurRaheem Adajah and Danjuma Ndihgihdah, the agency’s top two satellite managers, said Nigeria’s communication satellite is being used by many companies in Gabon and Ivory Coast in addition to Nigerian companies.
