PhonesRe: My Experience So Far With The Tecno L8 Plus by iamakbar(op): 8:12am On Jul 10, 2016
Fesisko:
What about the price?
I bought it 35k here in Yola
PhonesMy Experience So Far With The Tecno L8 Plus by iamakbar(op):
Eventually, I decided to buy Tecno L8 after serious considerations and scrutiny of both the phone and its battery-capacity contemporaries (Gionee M5, Tecno L5, Infinix Hot Note 2 et al), i headed to phone shop to make my purchase.

Getting there, i was a bit surprised when the attendant told me they only have L8 Plus. At first I thought it was the oversabi attitude of most attendants who in an attempt to sell, attribute irrelevant names to product. I was wrong. The attendant clarified that while L8 has just one 1GB RAM, L8 Plus boasts of a 2GB RAM memory. I was elated. I have seen and read about how frustrating 1GB RAM phones can be.

For brevity's sake, I'd like to state that L8 Plus is everything like it forerunner, L8. The only difference lies in the RAM.
However, for the benefit of those that mightn't have known, here are the basics about the phone:

Camera:
While for an 'unrepentant' picture snapper and Selfie taker, this might be a no no, the 8mp back with flash, 2mp front w/o flash camera will trump a lot of other phones within it cadre. It HDR option gives it a significant boost. I am contented with the quality.

Memory:
The 16GB ROM, 2 GB RAM is a seamless delight when i multitask between apps and play heavy games. No delay, no hang.

Battery:
Ehn ehn! While some might believe the price, coupled with the RAM is the unique selling point of the phone, I think the 5050mAh battery life is major perk of the phone. For one, it was what bought me over. However, I think the 5050mAh battery didn't live up to expectation. My take is that a battery with such gargantuan capacity should atleast last 3 days without heavy usage while heavy use of the phone should still give like 2 days of battery life. L8 Plus does not. A full charge without heavy usage gives you a max of 38 hrs or thereabout while you can only like 24/26 hrs for heavy usage. After surfing the net with 3G network and watching two episodes of GOT, and 60 mins of Now You See Me 2, there was only a considerable 20+% drop in my battery level. Suffice to say, i had my data on while watching the movies.

Operating System:

Prior to this time, i knew nothing about HiOs, never even knew Tecno had gone the way of Apple to create its own custom O.s- HiOs
The HiOs comes with some interesting perks like the Micro intelligence, Hi Theme, Hi Manager, App freeze, Ultra Mode, Wallpaper Switch et al( nothing entirely new that you won't get from the settings option of other android devices, except probably for the beautiful themes and Wallpapers). The HiOs really takes the lead in terms of graphics and User interface.

My L8 Plus is just 4 days old, thus, the discovery phase is still ongoing but as it stands i will peg the phone at 80/100 on all fronts except the battery. For the battery I'll give 70

Ps: Pic2 is a feel of one of the many beautiful wallpapers that abound in the HiOs
1 was taken with the 8mp back camera.

PPS: My feel about the battery is tentative and still under study. I just watched a 1hr35mins movie with HD @only 7% deduction of battery, which I feel is pretty fair.

First, do not refer to me in any derogatory term used by slave masters of old. You can call yourself a 'nigger', 'nigga' or 'niccur' all you want, i personally don't like it. I associate users of such words with the stupidity of the current day blacks (in the US) who only know violence and drugs or those in Africa who despite being free, long for the shackles of the western masters.

Secondly: "A word does not really have to be rigidly used as its meaning dictates" is complete bullshit. Any given word has a number of given contexts which ensures that the construct of the parent language is properly spoken; in other words, people don't start speaking rubbish. Even pidgin english has its own grammatical structure.

So that you may learn and stop yanning rubbish online: Epic means

1. a long poem, typically one derived from ancient oral tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures or the past history of a nation.

2. an exceptionally long and arduous task or activity.

3. heroic or grand in scale or character.

4. particularly impressive or remarkable.

Finally, look at my profile. I joined nairaland LONG before you ..
much as it sickens me to reply you again, u just did urself in....
4. particularly impressive or remarkable

you typed the bolded urself. So tell me again my use of 'Epic' to mean impressive is wrong.

BTW, the word 'epic' has been 'twisted' to serve a conventional and 'untraditional' purpose to show the impressive way the lecturer responded to the student. In everyday conversational dialogue, this is absolutely right.
A word does not really have to be rigidly used as its meaning dictates; the creativity and mastery of a speaker of a language transcends cramming surface-level semantics rather it is how such persons can dexterously infuse word in 'unfamiliar' terrain without violating any rule of grammar and meaning is still preserved.
Go and learn your grammar; then we can rub minds.

Politics'hotbed Of Terror'- CNN Apologises To Kenya by iamakbar(op): 11:54am On Aug 19, 2015
When Cable News Network (CNN) report tagged Kenya a 'hotbed of terror' ahead of President Obama's visit to his home country for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July, little did CNN know that it had unsettled a hive of bees ready to sting.

Kenyans wasted no time in taking the news agency to the cleaners on social media for the smear. Immediately the #someonetellcnn hash tag started trending on twitter with Kenyans on Twitter taking corrective jibes at CNN for its flub.

Not only did Kenyans react, the Kenyan government also protracted the multi-million advertisement deal it had with the cable news network.

In a bid to ease things back into normalcy, The CNN’s Global Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Tony Maddox paid a personal visit to deliver an apology on behalf of CNN international. While at the State House, Nairobi, Maddox expressed regret at the smear brought upon Kenya and Kenyans through the broadcast carried by CNN. He further admitted that the misrepresentation was not only undeserved but also ill fitting.

While receiving Maddox, Kenya President- Uhuru Kenyatta spoke plainly in rebuking CNN for their blunder. He summed up the country’s bitter disappointment for having been portrayed as a country at war, seriously impacting on Kenya’s reputation around the world and affecting tourism arrivals.

An update on the President’s Facebook page reads “In one stroke, CNN’s description of Kenya as a ‘hotbed of terror’ undermined the sacrifices made by our Kenyan troops, and the value of hundreds of lives lost, and relegated them to nothing.”

However, despite the move by CNN, the Kenyan government is yet to broach discussions on the protracted deal.

IslamRe: Things That I Saw In The Front Row Of Jumah Today. by iamakbar(m): 12:08pm On Jun 12, 2015

Salam Alaikum

Happy Jumah my dear muslim brothers and sisters.

Astaghfirullah! But I don't usually be in the fromt row of the Masjid during Jumah but today I was privileged to be at the front row so I will share some of the things I saw.

1.The most annoying thing I saw today was tat the people that came late will always want to be in the front and thereby causing inconveniences to the people that are seated already, I was sitting down comfortably when this fat man (I am not being abusive, it's just a description) just sat between us and made me uncomfortable.

2. Sitting in the front, I could see some people that came in and perform nawafil, but they were looking left and right like someone was going to steal them away.

3. Some people even held tesbah while standing when performing the nawafil and they were counting, I wonder if they were counting the numbers of Fatiha they recited.

I know some of will wonder how I get to see all these, well, I was sitting backing the wall.
At Op, Walahi it saddens my heart when i see these too (esp. number 1), it shows aw gravely disconnected we are fro the teachings and injunctions of the Noblest of Mankind(s.a.w).
Another annoying thing is seeing people discussing during khutbah.... the prophet himself warned against all these.
May ALLAH overlook our shortcomings sha.

NYSCRe: The Evils Of NYSC- How A Female Corper Was Sexually Molested By A Man O War by iamakbar(op): 11:50am On May 16, 2015
Bolade005:
Most Akwa Ibom people behave like sexually depraved animals. I served there so I know what I'm saying.

Good thing about them is they always protect one of their own. That's the end of the matter. It would have been different if the lady was an indigene.
Buh den its unfair to just let the case die down llike cos the lady isn't an indigene. Most importantly something needs to be done to check the highhandedness of security officials in camp. They make life miserable for corp members
NYSCThe Evils Of NYSC- How A Female Corper Was Sexually Molested By A Man O War by iamakbar(op): 11:38am On May 16, 2015
When I heard about the guy that was unjustly maltreated in Nasarawa camp beause he refused to kneel cos of his health, I was sad, but when I heard this other story from a fellow corp member, my sadness took a new form; it became anger. Seriously someone needs to do something to cut the high-handed wings and arrogant impunity of security officials in various camps across the country. I mean, alot of bad memories associated with camping can be attributed to the menace of these security officials who derive untoward joy in reducing corp members' existence withn the space of three weeks to something bestial.
First of all, I have decided to share this story because of the "hush-hush" manner with which it was handled such that some fellow corp members never knew it happened. Here is what happened in NYSC camp Akwa Ibom:
I was coming back from the mammy on Thursday night when I saw a fellow platoon member standing alone by herself with a sullen look which suggested she must've been sobbing. Being some1 I had chatted and joked with once, it was only normal that I inquire and try to cheer her up. But what I learnt later disoriented me totally.
It happened that this Man o war guy by the name Christian had lured this lady in platoon 10 to the security room, on getting there he spoke ibibio to other security officials in the room and they dispersed leaving her alone with the guy in the room.
Then he started with the sexual advances and acts, threatening the lady and wanting to perform all demeaning act. The Lady could do nothing but just plead, appealing to the humane part of him. Eventually she found a way out and that was when I saw her.
On getting to know this, I with some guys notified our platoon commander who later fished the guy out. Here comes the sadly intruiging part, the guy bluffingly denied at first but after the lady came out he started apologizing and even offered to take us to the mammy. Imagine!
Our concern now is that the Akwa Ibom camp management has been keeping the matter "hush-hush" and nothing seems to have been done to forestall future occurence of this ignoble act. Seriously, pervs like Christian shouldn't be around corp members.

NYSCNYSC DG Visits Nasarawa Camp, Storms Out In Anger as Security molests a lady... by iamakbar(op):
Following news that a corp member- Adeyera Olubunmi (State code: NS/15A/0134)(Call-up no.: NYSC/NIJ/2015/061287) of the Nasarawa state 'chapter' of NYSC was unjustly maltreated by security operatives of the camp, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps visited the state today to personally check on the welfare of corp members and make inquiry into the cause of the gross and inhumane maltreatment of the corp member.
The DG who said he was highly perturbed when he saw the news on Linda Ikeji's left the camp in a fit of rage when officials of the camp could not give convincing reasons to justify their ignoble acts.
Ever since the visit of the DG, corp members have been free to act on their whims as soldiers and other security officials have been reduced to rain-beaten fowls. Dem jus they look, grin
I just wish the DG visits evry other camp in the country and check the excesses of these men in uniform.
Must we be reduced to slaves cos we've chosen to obey the clarion call?
Meanwhile a friend just called me to relate that in Akwa Ibom a common Man o' war officer sexually molested a lady.
Seriously the evils being perpetrated in the name of this NYSC really defeats the noble goals it was meant to achieve.

Seriously this is becoming undefendable for Aregbe and ApC, even if the Federal govt did not release anymoney at all to Osun state(which is totally impossible), he as a leader with deep concern for the welfare of his workers and denizens should have devised other means to pay workers salaries. And I hope his son gets tried for the money laundering indictment, we should all be equal before the law.
