PoliticsControversial Interview: Mailafiya Leaves DSS Office In Jos by IamHeWrites(op): 4:18pm On Aug 17, 2020
... says there seems to be more interest in what I have to say than the killings in Southern Kaduna

A former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Obadiah Mailafia has left the Jos office of the Department of State Services (DSS), Igbere TV can confirm.

Igbere TV reports that Mr Mailafia’s visit on Monday was brief compared with his six-hour long stay with DSS operatives last week.

He was accompanied by his wife Margaret Vou and the Jos branch chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Yakubu Bawa, among others.

Mailafia’s comments on radio that a northern governor was the commander of Boko Haram fighters have been generating concerns within the secret police.

“There seems to be more interest in what I have to say than the killings in Southern Kaduna. But all I am saying is that the killing of my people in the state and in other parts of Nigeria must stop,” he told reporters earlier on Monday.

PoliticsLauretta Onochie To Oyedepo Over Rejection Of CAMA: Build Your Own Country by IamHeWrites(op): 1:05pm On Aug 17, 2020
Lauretta Onochie social media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari has criticised the presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide David Oyedepo over his disapproval of the Company and Allied Matters Acts (CAMA) being applied in churches, Igbere TV reports.

Oyedepo had told his congregants on Sunday that the “church is God’s heritage on earth” and that it works “on the pattern delivered by God not the pattern of man.”

However, reacting to his statement on Monday, Mrs Onochie in a brief statement made available to IGBERE TV the popular cleric would have to create his own country where he can live by his own laws.

I hope this is not true.
If it is, Oyedepo will have to manufacture his own country and live by his own laws.

Politics2023: Build Bridges With Other Parts Of The Country - Fani-kayode To Igbos by IamHeWrites(op): 12:22pm On Aug 17, 2020
Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Aviation Minister has urged Igbos to build bridges with other parts of the country to enable them win the presidential seat of Nigeria in 2023.

This appeal was made by the former Aviation Minister while speaking with journalists in Onitsha, Anambra State during a visit to the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano on Sunday, where he expressed hope that Igbo Presidency was realisable, Igbere TV reports.

Fani-Kayode said the presidency is not too much of a position for the people of the South East region to ask for, considering their contributions to the country.

He said the realization of the project would give Igbo people a sense of belonging in the Nigerian nation and serve as compensation for their loss during the civil war.

“Igbo man has never led the country and it is a sad thing for some of us that no Igbo man has ever ruled the country. It is one of the things that should be done to ensure stability

“It is realisable, and it is incumbent on the people of the South East to ensure they win the support of people of other regions. A lot of work needs to be done. It (Igbo presidency) is due and will go a long way to stop agitations and make the Igbo feel they are part and parcel of Nigeria.

“We can ameliorate the pains of the past and make up for it. No part of Nigeria has ever lost over three million people in a crisis, so it can serve as compensation. If it is going to be achieved, we must ensure we win support in all parts of the country,” he said.

Igbere TV reports that the former minister said he was in Anambra as part of a tour of some states in the country he scheduled to visit since after the COVID-19 lockdown.

“We were in Enugu yesterday (Saturday) and will be going to five other states before going back to Abuja. I am here to see what has been going on in Anambra, interact with the governor and see things that are going on here.

“I am here as a member of the PDP and for me, it is not about party, but about how well the state governor has been able to take the state. I can confess that I have seen a lot of what your governor is doing here. Before now, the state was rife with kidnapping and other violent crimes. I urge Anambra people to remember what the state was before Obiano came, and appreciate him.

“We should encourage Obiano. I have seen good development in terms of the international airport being constructed by the governor. We just ran down the runway and it is the longest runway in the country. And it is the biggest in the country so far.

“The project will dwarf every other airport in the country and also draw development to the state. I am a former aviation minister, and I should be able to tell you about the project I saw on the ground. I am sorry that the governor is packaging it (airport) as a surprise, and I have let the cat out of the bag.”

He urged Obiano to ensure that the right person succeeds him, to ensure that his legacies are maintained.

SportsKanu, Ayegbeni, Ronaldo Make List Of 10 Worst Misses In Football (full List) by IamHeWrites(op): 2:30pm On Aug 16, 2020
Former Super Eagles strikers Nwankwo Kanu and Yakubu Ayegbeni have been listed in 10 of football’s worst misses by the Press Association media group.

Igbere TV reports that the list was compiled after Raheem Sterling missed an open goal as Manchester City were dumped out of the Champions League at the hands of Lyon on Saturday night.

10 Chris Iwelumo: World Cup qualifier, Scotland v Norway, 2008

In a crucial World Cup qualifier, and on his Scotland debut, striker Iwelumo managed to miss the target from close range after a perfect cross from Gary Naysmith. It was a sitter and Iwelumo never did score for his country.

9 Yakubu Ayegbeni: World Cup, Nigeria v South Korea, 2010

The former Everton and Portsmouth man was the beneficiary of a pinpoint cross from the left and Yakubu, inside the six-yard box, went for the precision finish rather than a blast into the open goal. Unfortunately for him he sent the ball six inches wide.

8 Ronnie Rosenthal: Premier League, Aston Villa v Liverpool, 1992

The Liverpool striker rounded Villa goalkeeper Nigel Spink and, with the goal wide open, leaned back and side-footed the ball against the bar – to the delight of a packed Holte End.

7 Cristiano Ronaldo: LaLiga, Rayo Vallecano v Real Madrid, 2012

Even the world’s best players can blunder, and then Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo would not want to relive this one. He was slipped the ball across goal by Gonzalo Higuain as Madrid attacked at pace, and only had to tap home. Too easy perhaps. Ronaldo instead chipped towards an empty net and hit a post.

6 Fernando Torres: Premier League, Manchester United v Chelsea, 2011

If there was a single moment which summed up Torres’ miserable Chelsea career, this was it. The Spaniard had done all the hard work by rounding David De Gea, but with an open goal gaping he prodded tamely wide from the edge of the goal area.

5 Nwankwo Kanu: Premier League, West Brom v Middlesbrough, 2004

The Nigeria striker made a fine living off unorthodox finishes, but this effort pushed improvisation beyond the limit. Lurking at the far post Kanu steadied himself for a short-range tap-in from a low cross but contrived to lob the ball over the bar from two yards.

4 Roberto Soldado: FA Cup, Tottenham v Burnley, 2015

The Spain striker laid on two assists in Spurs’ 4-2 win but was found wanting when it came to the simple task of a tap-in. Andros Townsend’s low cross took Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton out of commission but Soldado blasted against the bar.

3 Jon Dahl Tomasson: Eredivisie, Feyenoord v NAC Breda, 2001

Newcastle fans will remember Tomasson missing a hatful of chances during a tough stint at St James’ Park. None matched this one though, with Tomasson – in the centre of the goalmouth – scooping over the bar from barely a foot out.

2 Carlos Tevez: Premier League, Sunderland v Manchester City, 2010

The Argentinian was on the end of a two-on-one break alongside Yaya Toure against Black Cats goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. He had time to gesture with both hands for a pass but when Toure laid the chance on a plate for him, he somehow sidefooted over – and his side went on to lose 1-0 after Darren Bent’s late penalty.

1 Matt Ritchie: Premier League, Newcastle v Burnley, 2018

Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie met DeAndre Yedlin’s deflected low cross two yards out with his favoured left foot – but rather than celebrating, he was left with his arms raised in disbelief in the back of the net after somehow side-footing wide.

Terry Waya the father of one of Big Brother Naija season 5 housemates Kiddwaya has stated that it is difficult for children from rich homes to become successful on their own, Igbere TV reports.

The agro-allied industrialist made this known on Friday while airing his view on a TV programme, ‘Your View’.

According to the billionaire investor, it is easier for a poor man’s child to rise to the top than the child of a rich man.

Igbere TV recall that Kiddwaya had said before the start of the reality show that his biggest achievement was losing significant weight.

“Getting into health and fitness has been my biggest achievement. I used to be quite chubby, so I transformed my body and I have been consistent ever since,” he said.

CrimeTeacher Jailed For Life In Ondo Over Rape Of Pastor's 10-Year-Old Daughter by IamHeWrites(op): 12:10pm On Aug 14, 2020
A school teacher identified as Omotayo Adanlawo has been jailed for life over the rape of a 10-year-old girl, Igbere TV reports.

Justice Samuel Bola of Ondo State High Court who gave the judgement, said the defendant failed to give convincing evidence and testimony to prove his innocence in the rape allegations.

The sexual assault incident occured on August 24 2018. Adanlawo who used to attend the girl’s father’s church, allegedly went to the victim’s house at Iju in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State when she was alone and raped her after which he threatened her not to tell anyone else she will die.

After the incident, the victim was said to have complained of stomach pains as she could not walk afterwards. Her mother took her to a hospital for examination where it was revealed that the girl had been raped.

A family source who prefer anonymity told IGBERE TV that after rigorous interrogation, the little girl opened up and said Adanlawo had sexual intercourse with her.

The case was then reported at Iju-Itaogbolu Divisional Headquarters before being transfered to Ala area command, and a medical report revealed that there was actual penetration into the 10-year-old girl’s private part.

Adanlawo, in his statement before the police, claimed the young girl told him to lay on her after asking for 50 naira and chinchin, but during cross examination he claimed that he was at his home at the time of the incident.

He also claimed to be battling with hernia and as such was not medically fit to have had sexual intercourse with the girl.

Justice Bola in his judgement, however, said the prosecution was able to prove there was penetration in the rape allegation against Adanlawo.

He also said the defendant gave no medical report to prove his condition as well as any evidence to suggest he was in his house as claimed on the day of the incident.

The Judge subsequently sentenced Adanlawo to life imprisonment in line with section 358 of the crimanal laws of Ondo State.

CrimeTolulope Arotile: Police Arraign Brothers Over Death Of Flying Officer (photo) by IamHeWrites(op): 2:55pm On Aug 13, 2020
Police Arraign Two Brothers over Death of First Female Combatant Pilot

Nehemiah Adejo and David Adejo, the two brothers who were detained for killing Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, were yesterday arraigned before a Kaduna State Magistrate Court on four-count charge.

Nehemiah was charged for causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention, driving without driver’s licence and driving without authorisation of the owner.

David was charged with negligent conduct while causing danger to person and property.

Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Police prosecuting counsel, Mr. Martins Leo urged that Nehemiah be remanded in prison, arguing that there is pending investigation of culpable homicide against him.

However, counsel, to the accused, Mr. Ibrahim Omachi argued that his clients are first-time offenders and had spent more than four weeks in detention

The Magistrate, Mr. Benjamin Hassan, after hearing arguments from both counsels granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1 million with two sureties who must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court and possess Bank Verification Number (BVN). The case was adjourned to 24 and 25 of August for hearing.

Arotile was killed by a reversing vehicle at the premises of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, Kaduna.

The vehicle was driven by the Nehemiah, one of the accused persons who is said to be a former classmate and was reversing to greet the deceased.

NAF had last month unveiled the killers of the late Arotile.

It, however, ruled out foul play in the death, restating its earlier position that she was run over by a friend’s vehicle.

It said the deceased officer died of trauma due to the bleeding from head injuries she sustained in the accident.

NAF identified the three suspects being detained over the incident as Mr. Nehemiah Adejoh, Mr. Igbekele Folorunsho and Mr. Festus Gbayegun, saying they were her former secondary schoolmates, who would also be handed over to the police for prosecution.

Folorunsho and Gbayegun were not charged to court yesterday, but David Adejoh, the alleged owner of the car, was on the charge sheet.

At a media briefing on the preliminary investigation report on the death of Arotile in Abuja, the Director, Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said Arotile was run over by a friend’s vehicle and died of trauma to the head and bleeding.

“Upon recognising their schoolmate, Arotile, after passing her, Mr. Adejoh, who was driving, reversed the vehicle, ostensibly in an attempt to quickly meet up with the deceased, who was walking in the opposite direction.

“In the process, the vehicle struck Flying Officer Arotile from the rear, knocking her down with significant force and causing her to hit her head on the pavement. The vehicle then ran over parts of her body as it veered off the road beyond the kerb and onto the pavement, causing her further injuries,” he said.

EducationPolice Take Over UNILAG As VC Crisis Deepens by IamHeWrites(op): 1:23pm On Aug 13, 2020
The police have increased their presence around the Senate building of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) following the crisis rocking the institution.

Former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode says US President Donald Trump will defeat the presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the crunch November general elections.

Mr Fani-Kayode stated this on Tuesday on the heels of the announcement of California senator Kamala Harris as Mr Biden’s running mate, Igbere TV reports.

The former minister said Mr Trump and Vice President Mike Pence who are seeking re-election will defeat Biden and Ms Harris.

“Donald Trump and Mike Pence shall beat Joe Biden and Kamala Harris hands down. Mark it,” he confidently said.

Igbere TV reports that Ms Harris becomes the first black woman on a major party ticket.

Edo Commissioner's House Vandalized 3 Weeks After Gunmen Attack Residence. Obaseki Reacts

Barely three weeks after suspected political thugs in Edo State have attacked his residence, the home of the Edo State Commissioner for Youth Damian Lawani in Udaba, Etsako Central Local Government Area of the state has been vandalised by unknown persons.

Igbere TV recall that gunmen shot sporadically at Lawani's house on July 21 at 11 pm, destroying several properties and leaving scores of Lawani’s family members with various degrees of injuries.

The assailants also promised to return to inflict pains on the commissioner who was absent at his residence.

They also dropped a message with the inscription: “Damian Lawani, you’re lucky we did not meet you at home.

“We promise that we are coming back for you. If you like, tighten security.”

Reacting to the new development, Governor Godwin Obaseki, in a statement sent to IGBERE TV described the incident as “barbaric” during a visit to the vandalised building on Monday.

“What happened here is quite disturbing, we got the report couple of weeks ago and the matter was reported to police in the state. It is quite disturbing,” Mr Obaseki said.

“This is a clear evidence of an attempt on the life of my commissioner for youth. This matter has been reported and I understand that investigations are ongoing.

“When you recall the alarm raised by the Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu, over the weekend that some persons were identified as hired assassins who had been brought into Benin.

“It gives us call for concern that these investigations are taking unnecessarily long.

“We will continue to pursue peace. We will continue to try and use the apparatus of state and I hope that those involved, those who have the responsibility to provide security understand the dangers they are putting the state into.”

The governor said the people should not be blamed if they resort to self-defence, accusing the police of turning “a blind eye to the violence being perpetrated by some powerful people” in Edo.

Southern Kaduna Women Protest Over Incessant Killings, Accuse Military Of Bias

Hundreds of Southern Kaduna women on Saturday in different communities took to major roads to display their displeasure over the incessant killings of their people by Fulani militia.

The protesters, who trooped out in large numbers in Samaru Kataf in Zango Kataf Local Government Area, called on government at different levels to tackle the situation.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Mrs Dorcas David called on the Kaduna State Government to remove the curfew imposed in the area as a matter of urgency.

She said it was as a result of the curfew that the killers were gaining access to their villages to kill them.

She stated that, "The military that was deployed has been baised in protecting lives and properties and has become a tool that is used in killing them.

"It is unfortunate that our killers could still beat security check-points, invade our communities and carry out all kinds of heinous acts for hours without any interruption.

"We have called the military on several occassions when our communities are under attacks but they only come when the attackers must have finished their operations and left.

"We're letting the whole world know that the military sent to guard us have now formed part of the problem we are facing in Southern Kaduna."

The priestesses on their part laid curses at the assembly gate.

Speaking on behalf of them, the priestess of Ekutetebite Negwogho Group Princess lnibokun lmasemwenbor said she inherited her symbol of authority as juju priestess from her grandfather and whatever she pronounced on anyone will be so.

She said Governor Godwin Obaseki has provided social amenities for them including motorable roads and that is why she is “interested in the matter”.

“Obaseki is a peace maker, he gave us amenities of life and for that reason, I have to back him up with my strength,” she said.

Princess lmasemwenbor assured that Obaseki will be re-elected.

“Nobody will grab it from him and whoever says he will turn the state upside down to subvert the wishes of the people, help us tell such people that the head of our ancestors will torment them, all the deities of Benin kingdom should torment them,” she warned.

“The police and other security agencies have failed to protect the people of Okigwe local government area. This fact became clear with the type of sporadic shooting that took place in Okigwe town last night which left eight persons dead and not less than twelve others wounded.

“The hoodlums had a field day as they went street by street in Okigwe town with bike shooting and killing my people unchallenged by the police and other security agencies in the area including the army.”

“Be it resolved by this honourable House that Imo state government and the police to provide operational vehicles and other equipment or manpower to enable the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force fight armed gangs in Okigwe.”

Ogbunikpa further charged the police to wade into the situation, expressing fears that more persons may fall victim if the situation was not arrested.

Igbere TV gathered that the motion which received massive support from members was cosponsored by Paul Emeziem of Onuimo state constituency, Pascal Okolie of Orlu constituency and Kennedy Ibeh representing Obowo state constituency.

PoliticsISWAP Kills 4 Aid Workers Abducted In July (photos) by IamHeWrites(op): 10:26am On Dec 14, 2019
Four out of five abducted aid workers of Action Against Hunger (AAH), an international non-governmental organisation (NGO), have been killed.

Ahmed Salkida, a journalist known to have access to the leadership of Boko Haram, disclosed this in a series of tweets on Friday.

Six aid workers, five male and a female, were kidnapped by members of the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP) after their convoy was attacked in Damasak, Borno state, in July.

One of the aid workers, a male, was killed in September. The insurgents alleged that they took the action because “the government deceived them”.

According to Salkida, the remaining aid worker, Grace Taku, who is the only female, has not been killed but condemned to a “life of slavery”.

He quoted the insurgents as saying the execution of the four aide workers followed the breakdown of talks with the federal government.

“ISWAP executes four more, releases video. All four are male humanitarian workers of Action Against Hunger abducted since July, 2019. The only female amongst them, Grace Taku, according to ISWAP, is condemned to life of slavery,” he tweeted.

“ISWAP claims the execution was as a result of breakdown of talks with the government.”

“The government is not sincere and do not respect timelines,” reports an ISWAP source. Taku’s fate is now the same with other Christian female captives with the terror group.”

Reacting in a statement, AAH condemned the killing of the aid workers and asked for the immediate release of the surviving aid worker.

“The armed group responsible for kidnapping six humanitarian workers in north-east Nigeria on 18 July, 2019 today claimed they have executed four hostages. This brings the number of fatalities to five,” the statement said.

“Action Against Hunger extends its deepest sympathies to their loved ones and our colleagues in Nigeria.

“Action Against Hunger condemns these latest killings in the strongest terms and deeply regrets that its calls for the release of the hostages have not been acted upon.

“Action Against Hunger is extremely concerned and calls for the immediate release of its staff member, Grace, who remains in captivity.

“Action Against Hunger states categorically that every attack against humanitarian workers ultimately impacts vulnerable civilians.”

PoliticsDSS Attacked Omoyele Sowore In Court Like Wild Dogs – Wole Soyinka by IamHeWrites(op): 6:31pm On Dec 06, 2019
Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has likened the rearrest of #RevolutionNow protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, by the Department of State Service (DSS) on Friday to an attack by a pack of wild dogs.

DSS operatives invaded the Federal High Court in Abuja to rearrest Mr Sowore and co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, less than 24 hours after they were released from detention, Igbere TV reports.

Both Sowore and Mr Bakare were forcefully rearrested when the hearing on the treasonable felony charge against them was adjourned to December 11 to 13 by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu.

Images from inside the court show Sowore pinned to the floor during scuffles with security agents.

In a statement released on Friday evening, Soyinka said he had underestimated the DSS capacity for the unthinkable.

The full statement reads: “A few years ago, I watched the video of a pack of the famed African wild dogs hunt, eventually bring down, and proceed to devour a quarry. It was an impala, antelope family. The pack isolated the most vulnerable looking member of the herd – it was pregnant – pursued it, until it fled to a waterhole which, for such animals, is the nearest thing to a sanctuary.

“A few minutes ago, almost as it was happening, I watched the video of a pack of the DSS, bring down, and fight over their unarmed, totally defenceless quarry within the sanctuary of a court of law. I found little or no difference between the two scenarios, except that the former, the wild dogs, exhibited more civilized table manners than the DSS u court manners.

“Only yesterday, in my commentary on the ongoing Sowore saga, I pointed out the near perfect similarity between plain crude thuggery and the current rage of court disobedience. Little did I suspect that the state children of disobedience would aspire to the level of the African wild dogs on a pack hunt.

“I apologize for underestimating the DSS capacity for the unthinkable. I reiterate the nation’s concern, indeed alarm, about the escalating degradation of the judiciary through multiple means, of which disobedience of court orders is fast becoming the norm. May I remind this government that disobedience calls to disobedience, and that disobedience of the orders of the constitutional repository of the moral authority of arbitration – the judiciary – can only lead eventually to a people’s disregard of the authority of other arms of civil society, a state of desperation that is known, recognized and accepted as – civil disobedience. It is so obvious – state disobedience leads eventually to civil disobedience, piecemeal or through a collective withdrawal of recognition of other structures of authority. That way leads to chaos but – who set it in motion? As is often the case, the state, unquestionably. Such a state bears full responsibility for the ensuing social condition known as anomie.

“It has become imperative and urgent to send this message to President-General Buhari: Rein in your wild dogs of disobedience. And for a start, get a trainer to teach them some basic court manners!”

PoliticsTurkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia Covertly Support Boko Haram, Herdsmen – Fani-kayode by IamHeWrites(op): 10:00am On Nov 26, 2019
Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia of covertly supporting Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen.

The ex-minister, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, alleged that while the aforementioned countries secretly support Boko Haram and killer herdsmen, ISIS and Al Qaeda make their support open.

He, however, did not back his claim with evidence.

“Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia covertly support Boko Haram and the Fulani herdsmen. ISIS, Al Qaeda and Islamic Jihad do so openly. What is slowly unfolding in our country is alarming and frightful. Nigeria needs the support of @realDonaldTrump and Israel for what lies ahead,” Fani-Kayode said.

Boko Haram insurgents have killed tens of thousands in the northern part of the country since they became active sometime in the early 2000s.

Killer herdsmen, however, have posed more recent threat to the security of the nation with attacks in the Middle Belt particularly Benue State.

Social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has filed a suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging unlawful detention and a violation of his rights.

Mompha was arrested on October 19 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on allegations of cybercrime and money laundering.

The Instagram celebrity has now filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere through his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.

Igbere TV reports that Mompha is demanding damages of N5 million for his unlawful detention without trial.

He prayed the court to order the EFCC to either immediately charge him to court or release him if it was not ready to charge him to court.

Mr Oyewole said his client, as a Nigerian, was entitled to the protection of his fundamental rights under sections 34, 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution.

According to him, the court order to keep Mompha had since expired and he ought to be released.

A date is yet to be fixed for hearing of the case.

The EFCC in late October arrested a Lebanese and two other suspected accomplices of Mompha.

Hamza Koudeih was arrested after a three-hour stand-off at his N1.8 billion luxury apartment in the 33-storey Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Celebrities‘Most Music Legends Are Not Versatile’ – Singer, Simi by IamHeWrites(op): 9:30am On Nov 19, 2019
Nigerian alternative music star, Simi Ogunleye has deemed audience’s ‘unrealistic’ expectations from artist as one of the main issues plaguing the music industry.

Igbere TV reports that in a series of Twitter posts @simplysimi, she noted that Nigerian musicians are forced to cater to the same audience and switch their sounds to feed them.

According to the ‘Soldier’ singer, artists are forced to be versatile even when they have their own original sounds, as musical legends are usually monotonous in their sounds.

“I think one of the most trying things Naija artistes deal with is that we are mostly catering to the same audience.

“We don’t want to have to, but the structure of the industry makes it inevitable. We expect the same people to like Rap, street music, soul, pop, indie. Its strange.

“Strange for the audience because they keep messing around with your preference. You expect everyone to please you.

“Zlatan and Johnny Drille. Strange for the artist cos they keep messing around with your creativity. You expect everybody to like your music. A waste of time.

“So when I see someone tell an artist “you’re monotonous’’, it amuses me. Most of the legends are monotonous.

“Unless they don’t have a sound. Imagine Fela doing hip-hop today and RnB tomorrow or Whitney Houston – Soul today, akpala tomorrow,’’ she said.

PhonesFG Orders Stoppage Of Voicemail Service, Telecommunication Companies Protest by IamHeWrites(op): 7:23am On Nov 16, 2019
Hours after the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Patani issued a directive on deactivation of automatic voicemail service on existing phone lines, Telecommunication operators in Nigeria have reacted accordingly.

Isa Patani disclosed that there is a steep exploitation of phone users through the automatic voicemail service which should be accessed at the discretion of the subscriber and not by default.

Patani insisted that voicemail is not a popular service among mobile phone users in Nigeria and also has a language challenge among rural dwellers.

In a statement released by the Spokesperson of the Minister, Uwa Suleiman, the minister reportedly said: ‘’The voicemail service should be accessed at the discretion of the subscriber and not by default. The Honourable Minister finds it worrisome and totally unacceptable, that telecoms subscribers incur financial charges, for a service they are compelled to use by default.

Voicemail is not a popular service among mobile phone users in Nigeria, coupled with the language challenge among rural dwellers, who mostly do not understand the language deployed by these networks.

“In the light of this, Dr Pantami has issued a broad policy directive to the sector regulator Nigerian Communications Commission, to immediately ensure that issues regarding automatic voicemails are addressed on all existing phone lines and the subscribers, given the option of accessing the service via an activation code.”

While reacting to the development, the Chairman of Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, Gbenga Adebayo disclosed that the issue is a regulatory one and shouldn’t come from the Minister.

“The directive is unclear to us. The issue is a regulatory one and we don’t know why the he should a directive. It is an issue NCC is capable of handling’’, Adebayo said.

PoliticsYour Life Is In Hands Of The Court - Judge Tells Journalist, Agba Jalingo by IamHeWrites(op): 7:51am On Nov 14, 2019
Judge of the federal high court in Cross River state's capital Calabar, Simon Amobeda has revealed that he told Agba Jalingo, the journalist arrested on charges of disturbance of public peace and treason over his publication and social media posts about Governor Ben Ayade that his life is now in the hands of the court.

Recounting what transpired in court on Tuesday November 12 as Jalingo appeared for trial on Wednesday November 13, Amobeda said he made the statement after the defence counsel Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika walked out during a court session.

The Federal High Court Judge also alleged that the senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) had a habit of shouting in the court.

Amobeda who further disclosed that he was accused of conniving with the prosecution by Olumide-Fusika, added that the case will go on with or without him.

“In the three times he appeared before the court, the first time he was to bring down the court, the second time he was gentle, the third time yesterday he was shouting on top of his voice. I refuse to be intimidated,” Amobeda said.

Also backing his statement by with the case of Saro-Wiwa, Amobeda said “Late Gani Fawehinmi walked out on the tribunal in Ogoni matter. What happened? The matter went on and Ken Saro-Wiwa was convicted and sentenced to death.”

Olumide-Fusika clashed with the Federal High Court Judge after he granted leave to the prosecution to mask its witnesses; journalists, friends, family and supporters of Jalingo were sent out of the court room as a result of this. Amobeda however insisted that the aggrieved defence counsel should approach the Court of Appeal over the ruling.
