No fewer than ten persons have been confirmed dead as suspected Fulani herdsmen strike in Okigwe council area of Imo state. According to an eyewitness who spoke to IGBERE TV, the attack yesterday which was unchallenged by the police or the Army happened around Ojukwu street, Umuchima, Owerri road by union bank and Six-to-six area. The Imo State House of Assembly in reaction to the barbaric act have summoned the state’s Commissioner of Police Olaniyi Fafowora, to appear at the floor of the State Assembly next Tuesday. Igbere TV reports that Fafowor’s invitation was sequel to the motion moved by Chidiebere Ogbunikpa, a member representing Okigwe state constituency, during plenary on Thursday where he registered his displeasure on the invasion of Fulani herdsmen in the area. The motion reads, “whereas the police and other security agencies are charged with the responsibility of protecting lives and properties of Nigerian citizens, Okigwe people inclusive. “The police and other security agencies have failed to protect the people of Okigwe local government area. This fact became clear with the type of sporadic shooting that took place in Okigwe town last night which left eight persons dead and not less than twelve others wounded. “The hoodlums had a field day as they went street by street in Okigwe town with bike shooting and killing my people unchallenged by the police and other security agencies in the area including the army.” “Be it resolved by this honourable House that Imo state government and the police to provide operational vehicles and other equipment or manpower to enable the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force fight armed gangs in Okigwe.” Ogbunikpa further charged the police to wade into the situation, expressing fears that more persons may fall victim if the situation was not arrested. Igbere TV gathered that the motion which received massive support from members was cosponsored by Paul Emeziem of Onuimo state constituency, Pascal Okolie of Orlu constituency and Kennedy Ibeh representing Obowo state constituency. http://igberetvnews.com/1342736/breaking-suspected-fulani-herdsmen-strike-okigwe-kill-10-scores-wounded/ Lalasticlala Mynd44

Four out of five abducted aid workers of Action Against Hunger (AAH), an international non-governmental organisation (NGO), have been killed. Ahmed Salkida, a journalist known to have access to the leadership of Boko Haram, disclosed this in a series of tweets on Friday. Six aid workers, five male and a female, were kidnapped by members of the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP) after their convoy was attacked in Damasak, Borno state, in July. One of the aid workers, a male, was killed in September. The insurgents alleged that they took the action because “the government deceived them”. According to Salkida, the remaining aid worker, Grace Taku, who is the only female, has not been killed but condemned to a “life of slavery”. He quoted the insurgents as saying the execution of the four aide workers followed the breakdown of talks with the federal government. “ISWAP executes four more, releases video. All four are male humanitarian workers of Action Against Hunger abducted since July, 2019. The only female amongst them, Grace Taku, according to ISWAP, is condemned to life of slavery,” he tweeted. “ISWAP claims the execution was as a result of breakdown of talks with the government.” “The government is not sincere and do not respect timelines,” reports an ISWAP source. Taku’s fate is now the same with other Christian female captives with the terror group.” Reacting in a statement, AAH condemned the killing of the aid workers and asked for the immediate release of the surviving aid worker. “The armed group responsible for kidnapping six humanitarian workers in north-east Nigeria on 18 July, 2019 today claimed they have executed four hostages. This brings the number of fatalities to five,” the statement said. “Action Against Hunger extends its deepest sympathies to their loved ones and our colleagues in Nigeria. “Action Against Hunger condemns these latest killings in the strongest terms and deeply regrets that its calls for the release of the hostages have not been acted upon. “Action Against Hunger is extremely concerned and calls for the immediate release of its staff member, Grace, who remains in captivity. “Action Against Hunger states categorically that every attack against humanitarian workers ultimately impacts vulnerable civilians.” https://mobile.twitter.com/A_Salkida/status/1205512388042280960?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-1504098322168572489.ampproject.net%2F1912101856490%2Fframe.html

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has likened the rearrest of #RevolutionNow protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, by the Department of State Service (DSS) on Friday to an attack by a pack of wild dogs. DSS operatives invaded the Federal High Court in Abuja to rearrest Mr Sowore and co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, less than 24 hours after they were released from detention, Igbere TV reports. Both Sowore and Mr Bakare were forcefully rearrested when the hearing on the treasonable felony charge against them was adjourned to December 11 to 13 by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu. Images from inside the court show Sowore pinned to the floor during scuffles with security agents. In a statement released on Friday evening, Soyinka said he had underestimated the DSS capacity for the unthinkable. The full statement reads: “A few years ago, I watched the video of a pack of the famed African wild dogs hunt, eventually bring down, and proceed to devour a quarry. It was an impala, antelope family. The pack isolated the most vulnerable looking member of the herd – it was pregnant – pursued it, until it fled to a waterhole which, for such animals, is the nearest thing to a sanctuary. “A few minutes ago, almost as it was happening, I watched the video of a pack of the DSS, bring down, and fight over their unarmed, totally defenceless quarry within the sanctuary of a court of law. I found little or no difference between the two scenarios, except that the former, the wild dogs, exhibited more civilized table manners than the DSS u court manners. “Only yesterday, in my commentary on the ongoing Sowore saga, I pointed out the near perfect similarity between plain crude thuggery and the current rage of court disobedience. Little did I suspect that the state children of disobedience would aspire to the level of the African wild dogs on a pack hunt. “I apologize for underestimating the DSS capacity for the unthinkable. I reiterate the nation’s concern, indeed alarm, about the escalating degradation of the judiciary through multiple means, of which disobedience of court orders is fast becoming the norm. May I remind this government that disobedience calls to disobedience, and that disobedience of the orders of the constitutional repository of the moral authority of arbitration – the judiciary – can only lead eventually to a people’s disregard of the authority of other arms of civil society, a state of desperation that is known, recognized and accepted as – civil disobedience. It is so obvious – state disobedience leads eventually to civil disobedience, piecemeal or through a collective withdrawal of recognition of other structures of authority. That way leads to chaos but – who set it in motion? As is often the case, the state, unquestionably. Such a state bears full responsibility for the ensuing social condition known as anomie. “It has become imperative and urgent to send this message to President-General Buhari: Rein in your wild dogs of disobedience. And for a start, get a trainer to teach them some basic court manners!” http://igberetvnews.com/1180813/dss-attacked-omoyele-sowore-court-like-wild-dogs-wole-soyinka/ Lalasticlala Mynd44

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia of covertly supporting Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen. The ex-minister, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, alleged that while the aforementioned countries secretly support Boko Haram and killer herdsmen, ISIS and Al Qaeda make their support open. He, however, did not back his claim with evidence. “Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia covertly support Boko Haram and the Fulani herdsmen. ISIS, Al Qaeda and Islamic Jihad do so openly. What is slowly unfolding in our country is alarming and frightful. Nigeria needs the support of @realDonaldTrump and Israel for what lies ahead,” Fani-Kayode said. https://twitter.com/realFFK/status/1199243305957154817?s=19 Boko Haram insurgents have killed tens of thousands in the northern part of the country since they became active sometime in the early 2000s. Social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has filed a suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging unlawful detention and a violation of his rights. Mompha was arrested on October 19 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on allegations of cybercrime and money laundering. The Instagram celebrity has now filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere through his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole. Igbere TV reports that Mompha is demanding damages of N5 million for his unlawful detention without trial. He prayed the court to order the EFCC to either immediately charge him to court or release him if it was not ready to charge him to court. Mr Oyewole said his client, as a Nigerian, was entitled to the protection of his fundamental rights under sections 34, 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution. According to him, the court order to keep Mompha had since expired and he ought to be released. A date is yet to be fixed for hearing of the case. Nigerian alternative music star, Simi Ogunleye has deemed audience’s ‘unrealistic’ expectations from artist as one of the main issues plaguing the music industry. Igbere TV reports that in a series of Twitter posts @simplysimi, she noted that Nigerian musicians are forced to cater to the same audience and switch their sounds to feed them. According to the ‘Soldier’ singer, artists are forced to be versatile even when they have their own original sounds, as musical legends are usually monotonous in their sounds. “I think one of the most trying things Naija artistes deal with is that we are mostly catering to the same audience. “We don’t want to have to, but the structure of the industry makes it inevitable. We expect the same people to like Rap, street music, soul, pop, indie. Its strange. “Strange for the audience because they keep messing around with your preference. You expect everyone to please you. “Zlatan and Johnny Drille. Strange for the artist cos they keep messing around with your creativity. You expect everybody to like your music. A waste of time. “So when I see someone tell an artist “you’re monotonous’’, it amuses me. Most of the legends are monotonous. “Unless they don’t have a sound. Imagine Fela doing hip-hop today and RnB tomorrow or Whitney Houston – Soul today, akpala tomorrow,’’ she said. https://twitter.com/SympLySimi/status/1196553158052458497?s=19 http://igberetvnews.com/1144890/music-legends-versatile-singer-simi/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

Hours after the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Patani issued a directive on deactivation of automatic voicemail service on existing phone lines, Telecommunication operators in Nigeria have reacted accordingly. Isa Patani disclosed that there is a steep exploitation of phone users through the automatic voicemail service which should be accessed at the discretion of the subscriber and not by default. Patani insisted that voicemail is not a popular service among mobile phone users in Nigeria and also has a language challenge among rural dwellers. In a statement released by the Spokesperson of the Minister, Uwa Suleiman, the minister reportedly said: ‘’The voicemail service should be accessed at the discretion of the subscriber and not by default. The Honourable Minister finds it worrisome and totally unacceptable, that telecoms subscribers incur financial charges, for a service they are compelled to use by default. Voicemail is not a popular service among mobile phone users in Nigeria, coupled with the language challenge among rural dwellers, who mostly do not understand the language deployed by these networks. “In the light of this, Dr Pantami has issued a broad policy directive to the sector regulator Nigerian Communications Commission, to immediately ensure that issues regarding automatic voicemails are addressed on all existing phone lines and the subscribers, given the option of accessing the service via an activation code.” While reacting to the development, the Chairman of Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, Gbenga Adebayo disclosed that the issue is a regulatory one and shouldn’t come from the Minister. “The directive is unclear to us. The issue is a regulatory one and we don’t know why the he should a directive. It is an issue NCC is capable of handling’’, Adebayo said. http://igberetvnews.com/1136933/telecommunication-companies-protest-fg-orders-stoppage-voicemail-service/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

Judge of the federal high court in Cross River state's capital Calabar, Simon Amobeda has revealed that he told Agba Jalingo, the journalist arrested on charges of disturbance of public peace and treason over his publication and social media posts about Governor Ben Ayade that his life is now in the hands of the court. Recounting what transpired in court on Tuesday November 12 as Jalingo appeared for trial on Wednesday November 13, Amobeda said he made the statement after the defence counsel Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika walked out during a court session. The Federal High Court Judge also alleged that the senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) had a habit of shouting in the court. Amobeda who further disclosed that he was accused of conniving with the prosecution by Olumide-Fusika, added that the case will go on with or without him. “In the three times he appeared before the court, the first time he was to bring down the court, the second time he was gentle, the third time yesterday he was shouting on top of his voice. I refuse to be intimidated,” Amobeda said. Also backing his statement by with the case of Saro-Wiwa, Amobeda said “Late Gani Fawehinmi walked out on the tribunal in Ogoni matter. What happened? The matter went on and Ken Saro-Wiwa was convicted and sentenced to death.” Olumide-Fusika clashed with the Federal High Court Judge after he granted leave to the prosecution to mask its witnesses; journalists, friends, family and supporters of Jalingo were sent out of the court room as a result of this. Amobeda however insisted that the aggrieved defence counsel should approach the Court of Appeal over the ruling. http://igberetvnews.com/1134158/life-hands-court-judge-journalist-arrested-criticizing-ayade/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique
