The Police in Ekiti State said on Friday that they had recovered a weapon from one of the protesting students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Igbere TV reports. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, stated that “a weapon has been recovered from the protesting student”. The PPRO also disclosed that the police had launched manhunt for the alleged attackers of the convoy of the wife of Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mrs Bisi. This was as the school management said that three students injured in the course of the protest, had been discharged, with one still hospitalised in Ado-Ekiti. Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, has constituted a panel to unravel the circumstances which led to the Tuesday’s protest by students and alleged attack on the governor’s wife. Already, one of the four victims who lost their lives in the violent protest, Master Oluwaseyi Kehinde, an 100 level student, had been laid to rest. The students were said to be protesting lack of electricity and water on their campus, when they had a clash with the police officers attached to the convoy of the Governor's wife. The First Lady was said to have visited the area for another event, when the SUG President requested she addressed the protesting students. An eyewitness told Igbere TV that the students went berserk after one of the security officers reportedly slapped the SUG president for the effrontery, prompting them to retaliate. The once peaceful protest got violent, as the police officers called for reinforcements with at least two armoured vehicles, cracking down on the students. http://igberetvnews.com/980219/police-recover-weapon-hunt-for-attackers-of-govs-wife/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Peace Airlines, Allen Onyema, has been trending on Twitter since early Thursday, Igbere TV has observed. This followed the successful evacuation of some Nigerians from South Africa, following the renewed xenophobic attacks in that country. Igbere TV had reported that 187 Nigerians, who voluntarily indicated interest to return home, arrived Nigeria Wednesday night through the Lagos Airport. They were airlifted by Air Peace at no cost, while the Airline company bears the entire bill burden for their flight, according to its Founder and CEO. This development has caused many Nigerians to heap praises and prayers on Onyema, even as some pledged to make Air Peace their official flying company. In an emotional video sighted by Igbere TV on Wednesday, the Air Peace CEO was also seen crying profusely as he received the 187 returnees from South Africa at the Lagos airport. Nigerians have expressed satisfaction, hailing him for airlifting all those who indicated interest, not minding their ethnic group or religious belief. In what appears as a mixture of mockery and advice, Senator Shehu Sani has teased former Governor Rochas Okorocha, asking him to return to his former party, Igbere TV reports. Okorocha has been in the news lately as his successor and Imo Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, continues with state-backed crackdown on his (Okorocha)’s properties. This is even as the former governor is seen lamenting alleged unfair treatment by his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and its leadership. Igbere TV recalls that Okorocha has, on several occasion, publicly disagreed with the party's national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. He had accused the chairman of being behind his ordeals in the party, blaming him for the fallout of the APC in Imo, and his controversial senatorial election. Reacting to the development in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV on Thursday, Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, wrote; “Oh yea Rochas; thee hath wandered for so long in the desert of Egypt, searching for Gold under the foot of the Pharaohs and casting Idols in Bronze. Return to thy brethren and seek forgiveness of thy Lord that thee shalt be cured of thy leprosy.” https://twitter.com/ShehuSani/status/1172079863819382784?s=19 http://igberetvnews.com/980219/senator-shehu-sani-turns-preacher-knocks-okorocha-on-twitter-pixs/

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new twist as Rivers State Governor, Nyeson Wike, on Thursday, vowed to fight the party to a standstill, Igbere TV reports. This was as the governor described the panel set up by the PDP to resolve the minority leadership crisis in the House of Representatives as “the most corrupt” in the history of the party. He was reacting to the withdrawal of Austin Opara from the panel. Opara, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of the panel, had alleged compromise and external interference. Igbere TV recalls that the crisis started after the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, announced Ndudi Elumelu as the minority leader, against the wish of the PDP, who had nominated Kingsley Chinda from Rivers State. This led to the suspension of Elumelu and other members announced by Gbajabiamila as deputy minority leader and deputy minority whip, from the party, following the rejection of the outcome by Gov. Wike. Speaking in Port-Harcourt on Thursday, Wike applauded Opara for withdrawing from what he described as a “tainted committee” by not allowing himself to be “entangled in the illegal outcome” of the committee’s activities. “The Committee set up by the PDP on the illegal emergence of Ndudi Elumelu is the most corrupt committee ever set up by the party”, he said. “We thank our worthy son, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, for withdrawing from that committee so that he is not entangled in the illegal activities of the tainted committee”, Wike added. The Governor vehemently warned the party not to “toy with Rivers State” as “it is not in the interest of the party” to do so. “We are warning PDP to be careful not to toy with Rivers State. “Rivers State has all it takes to withstand the PDP and fight the party to a standstill. “The Rivers State Governor is not one of those Governors that anyone can cajole. “The Rivers State Governor is not one of those Governors that will kowtow to their illicit activities” Wike added. http://igberetvnews.com/980219/just-in-governor-wike-blows-hot-vows-to-fight-pdp/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Jaamatul Nasir Islam (umbrella body of all Muslims in Nigeria) Sa’ad Abubakar on Friday September 6, spoke up against the demolition of a mosque allegedly carried out by the Rivers State Government. Describing the alleged demolition of the Rainbow Junction Mosque as an abominable act in a statement released on his behalf by JNI’s Secretary-General Dr Khalid Abubakar-Aliyu, the Sultan of Sokoto called on all Muslims to remain calm pending the resolution of the crisis, Igbere TV reports l. The statement reads: “Jama’tu Nasril Islam (JNI) under the leadership of His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, as custodian of the deen, the Islamic Religion in Nigeria, whose revered symbol is inherent in the Masjid, the Mosque, described by our revered Prophet, on whom peace and benediction of Allah will be upon, as Baitullah, the house of Allah, is without any doubt pained by the act of demolition of Trans-Amadi Mosque under whatever guise. “However, at trying moments such as this, Muslims should be guided by the Qur’anic teaching of introspection and perseverance, truthfulness and sincerity. Such stand fetches for them Allah’s guidance on how the situation would be approached and solved. “The above approach is to enable the Muslim Ummah to come together in unity under its leadership, which I swear in the name of Allah the Exalted, right from the time the dastard act of the Trans-Amadi Mosque demolition took place, is working round the clock in finding lasting solutions with wisdom, for what the Rivers State Government did, unfortunately, in order to forestall future occurrence of such abominable act in Rivers State and anywhere in Nigeria. “Muslims are therefore called upon to be calm and restraint, and be prayerful, while the leadership seeks for concordant and accordant redress, within the shortest possible time frame in-sha-Allah”. http://igberetvnews.com/968033/mosque-demolition-sultan-of-sokoto-speaks-says-its-an-abominable-act/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has denied reports that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, stripped graduands of their gowns last Friday. Reports had said over the weekend that Prof Abdulkareem ordered the cancellation of a 32-man list of graduating students earlier issued at the 4th Induction/Oath Taking Ceremony organised by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in conjunction with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN). The graduands were alleged to have been stripped of their gowns at the entrance of the venue for reportedly failing to pass a course which was waived by the immediate past dean of the faculty, late Prof. Abdulkareem Aguna. It was also alleged that the Vice-Chancellor, who is reportedly opposed to the waiver, said he could not honour the opinion of the late dean. However, Director of Corporate Affairs of UNILORIN, Kunle Akogun, in a statement on Monday said the allegation was the work of mischief-makers. “Hiding behind the faceless name, Tijani Faraday, these mischief-makers took to the social media last weekend in a fruitless attempt to rubbish the image of the university while maligning the character of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem. “But every right-thinking person would and should know that in the operations of a university system, no vice-chancellor has such power to cancel outright the graduation ceremony of students,” he said. http://igberetvnews.com/955692/unilorin-reacts-to-reports-claiming-it-strips-pharmacy-graduands/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique
