Operatives of the Nigeria Police INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja have arrested two Kano-based suspects, Ibrahim Aminu and Mohammad Umar, on child pornography charges, Igbere TV reports.

According to a statement by the Force on Sunday posted to Twitter, investigations reveal that the suspects are members of a trans-border/international child porn syndicate which sexually abuse and take undue advantage of underage girls and disseminate the video recordings of the illicit sexual act on an international social media WhatsApp group chat known as ‘Pervertidos’ owned and managed by a Brazilian called Adriana. Their arrest followed intelligence received from the INTERPOL NCB, Brazil.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include three mobile phones and a laptop. Forensic investigations and analysis carried out by the police team on the gadgets revealed the series of pornographic and erotic videos with underage girls which the suspects shared on the internet for a fee denominated in US dollars.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu noted that a total of 2,792 suspects were arrested by the police for sexual and gender-based violence and other sexual related offences in the year 2020.

The arrests are linked to the 2,573 cases currently being prosecuted under the Force Gender Unit in various courts across the country. Others are still under active investigations.

The IGP enjoined parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and wards and report any incidents of abuse against women and children.

He expressed displeasure with the prevailing culture of silence in concealing crimes against women and children and called for improved collaboration with the police, assuring that the Force is well repositioned to protect women and children and confront violent crimes in the country.

Similarly, the police arrested five members of a kidnap gang which specialises in the abduction of women and the girl child, sexually abusing them and obtaining ransom from their families before their release.

The suspects are Osinachi Ngwakwe, 22; Sammy Inordee, 27; Epo-Bari Nwolu, 26; Yabari Gbarale, 29; and Barine Yilda, 30.

The police said effort is being intensified to arrest other fleeing gang members and recover more weapons and stolen vehicles used by the suspects for their operations.

All the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigations, the statement added.

*CHILD TRAFFICKING KINGPIN NABBED AS GOMBE POLICE COMMAND RETURNS UNCLAIMED CHILDREN TO ANAMBRA*

It will be recalled that on 22/10/2019 following an intelligence report, Police operatives attached to the Anambra State Police Command arrested three female suspects at Nkpor Market/Tarzan Junction in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, with three children suspected to have been stolen.

2.Investigations revealed that the children were stolen from Gombe State by one Hauwa Usman 'f" on the 20/10/2019 and brought to her accomplices in Anambra State. Following the Public announcement by the Command on the 27/10/2019, parents of the two kids from Gombe State came to Awka and identified their children.

3. Consequently, the children have since reunited with their parents and suspects were handed over to the Gombe State Police Command for discreet investigation and prosecution.

4.Furthermore, upon interrogation by the police in Gombe State, suspects voluntarily confessed that they usually steal the children and bring to their sponsor, one Mrs Nkechi Odinye, here in Anambra State, who buys each child at the rate of between two hundred and four hundred thousand naira (#200 to 400,000), depending on their age bracket and gender.

5.Following voluntary confession by the suspects and while acting on a tip off,Police detectives attached to 3-3 Division, in Collaboration with Operatives attached to the Command's Special Anti-Cult Section (SPACS), stormed the hideout of the principal suspect, one Mrs Nkechi Odinye, 'f', aged 55 years, and effected her arrest at Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

6.The Suspect had hitherto evaded arrest for over three years by changing locations until her arrest.The team equally recovered sixteen other children of various age brackets,comprising ten boys and six girls, reasonably suspected to have been stolen from different parts of the country under her custody.

7.Both the suspect and the found children were handed over to the Gombe State Police Command where four of the children were identified and reunited with their biological parents after exhaustive investigation and forensic analysis, including DNA tests. Also one of them was handed over to the parents in Asaba, Delta State.

8.However,on the 18/1/2021 the Gombe State Police Command returned eleven unclaimed children comprising Seven (7) boys and four (4) girls, back to the Anambra State Command where the children were originally found.They were subsequently handed over to the Anambra State Ministry for Social Welfare, Women's and Children's Affairs, for safe keeping until their biological parents emerge.

9.Meanwhile,the Command now has a total number of 18 unclaimed children rescued from suspected child traffickers.

10.In view of the foregoing, members of the public are kindly requested by the Commissioner of Police *CP John B Abang, fdc, to disseminate this message through their mediums to enable the biological parents or close relatives identify these children whose photographs appear hereunder to claim them.

The Magistrate Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state has reiterated its warning to Mrs. Deborah Archibong, mother of the ‘assaulted’ Deeper Life High School boy that she should desist from making comments or posting any material on the issue on social media.

Recall that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command had two weeks ago arraigned seven persons, including minors in connection with the alleged sexual molestation and maltreatment of one Don-Davis Archibong, a student of DLHS, Uyo.

They were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit Felony to wit: indecent treatment of boys under fourteen and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 556 of the criminal code, cap.38, Vol.2. Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, 2000.

The minors were charged for unlawfully assaulting Don-Davies Archibong punishable under section 218(1) of the Criminal code, cap.38, vol.2 Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, 2000, including section 362(1) of the Laws of Akwa Ibom State.

But at the first appearance in Court on January 6, 2021 the Plaintiff, Mrs Deborah Archibong was warned against making social media comments on the issue since it was in the Court, her lawyer, Mr. David Okokon told reporters after the court sitting on Wednesday.

Before now, Deborah’s video clips were seen on social media making several accusations over the alleged abuse of her son, Don-Davies Archibong.

In the same vein, journalists were on Wednesday barred from covering the proceeding on the ongoing Deeper Life School crisis as the court held under close door.

The Secretary of the Court, whose name could not be ascertained at press time, said since the matter was a juvenile case, nobody would be accepted to participate in the proceedings except the parties involved in the matter.

Speaking with the Counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. David Okokon, shortly after proceedings, said, the court followed the standard of proceedings obtainable globally in the juvenile case, adding that it was the reason journalists were not allowed to participate.

Okokon explained that the mother to the molested boy only gave her part of the story equivalent to what she had told the press, adding that the court later admitted her statement to the police as evidence.

“Procedurally, since it was a juvenile court journalists were not allowed to observe the proceedings. A juvenile court deserves a jurisprudencial privacy it has.

”Why the court did this was because, the court knows that the press has every power to get the information from the lawyers, which I am here with you.

“Ordinarily, the court had warned that parties should not address press because they want to allow the proceedings to be in the walls of the court in its merit, so that lawyers would not talk in and out of the matter and then confuse the public.

“In terms of the proceedings, it was a normal trial and legal proceedings were carried out. The mother to the molested boy opened the floor and the told her story which was carried by the press. But the only difference is that this time she is in the court but there is no discrepancy in what she said earlier, and her statement to the police was admitted as her evidence,”he said.

Also speaking, the Counsel to the defendant, Barr.Nojin Tairu, said; “by standard like this, when you have started a proceedings, you are not allowed to be making comments about the nitty-gritty of the matter.

”But I need to explain this to you so that we do not run foul of what is the standard practice everywhere in the world. At the end of the proceedings you will have all the fact and all that transpired in the Court.

“The matter is subjudice it would not be so decent to be hearing other version of the matter.

“The public’s right to know what happened in court is circumscribed by the practice procedure of the Court. It is pertinent to that this a special court proceedings involving child’s right procedure for trial. That was the reason why all person including men of the fourth realm were asked to leave the court premises.

“This is actually a juvenile court, and the law and the court is weary of exposing some things that may have harmful effect on the children involved.

”There are three children in this matter, we need to be careful and sensitive. I can assure you that at the end the proceedings journalists would have the whole revelation regarding the matter,” he added.

However, the case was adjourned to February 10, 2021 for continuation of hearing.

“I am saddened by the killing of innocent and hard-working young Nigerian, David Ntekim Rex, in the hands of armed robbers due to worsening insecurity in our country,” he said.

“David, and indeed any other citizen, does not deserve this untimely death because the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act (2017), makes their treatment lawful.”

Police in Ogun have said they would proceed with investigation into the sexual harassment allegations against the Commissioner for Environment Abiodun Abudu-Balogun.

Ogun police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed that the Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun had ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital, Igbere TV reports.

Oyeyemi said despite that the victim’s family had officially withdrawn the case against the commissioner, the command would go ahead with the case.

He said, “The father of the victim has no loco standing for him to tell the police that he’s no longer pressing charges against the Commissioner because he is not our complainant.

“He is not the person that was directly involved in the case. The victim is his daughter and even the daughter herself cannot withdraw the case because she is underage.

“Secondly, the case is an offense committed against the state, so they are no longer complainants, it is the Commissioner of Police versus the suspect (Abudu-Balogun).

“They are just witnesses in the case. So the police are going on with investigations to confirm the authenticity of the claims.

“The CP has directed that the case should be transferred to the State CID for proper investigations, so their position is immaterial.”

The police spokesperson assured that the case would be taken to court once the police confirm the incident actually happened.
