No, we discovered oil later on and so much effort was pushed towards oil exploration.
The collapse of the regional govt system after the civil war made issues worse, because the federal govt now had so much power and virtually everything was controlled by them and they channeled so much effort towards oil exploration which is paying off today but has sadly made many of us lazy, but the good news is that the mentality is now gradually changing and we are now going back to our agricultural roots.
U can see how much progress we are now making in the agricultural and industry sector. It would be just a short time from now.

However u Kenyans are still lucky that your colonial people (Indians and whites) are still in your country to help u run things there because it's obvious u guys would have never achieved anything on your own.

Majority of Kenyans live in Bushes, forests, villages and slums.
I believe so, cos for a country of 40 million people, yet they have only 1 city (Nairobi) with above a million people.
All the other smaller towns and cities put together (Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret e.t.c) are barely up to 5 million people. This tells us that only about 25% of Kenyans live in cities & towns, and even half of those in the so called towns live in slums (courtesy of Kibera, mathare and others emerging the largest slums in Africa).
That's really terrible for a country that wants to compete with Nigeria.


In Nigeria every of our 36 states + Abuja (Federal territory) have at least 1 city (the state capital city) with over 500,000 people.
Some states have 2, 3 or more cities with over a million or half a million people.
We have at least a hundred towns with about 100,000 people or more. And all these individual states and cities are developing at their own unique paces.
At least 70% of the 200million Nigerians live in developing towns and cities.
Nigeria's development is explosive. It's just a matter of time.

Religiously Nigeria is 50/50 muslim and christians, with 3 large tribes like Hausa, Yoruba and Igbos each numbering about 40 million people with hundreds of other ethnic groups. These ethnic and religious groups are sometimes up against each other.

No offence, but the Ethiopians, Sudanese and Congolese (equally large nations but smaller than Nigeria) yet could not manage their ethno-religious diversities and split up.

Kenyans should imagine themselves sharing one country with Somalis, Ethiopians, Eritreans and South Sudanese, let's see how large tribes like the Somalis, Amharas, Tigrinyas, Kikuyus, Oromos e.t.c can be able to share one country where each is fighting for dominance and yet still make significant progress.

If 90% of Lagos is a slum, then it would have been reported likewise by international media and organizations, but it's not.

Let me be frank to u, the reason why Lagos had issues for many years in the past was because it was completely neglected by the Federal govt of the nation who focused on Abuja alone. It took the former governor (a progressive person) many years to fix Lagos.

Pidgin english, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo are more spoken than English in our country. Those who speak English as their everyday home language are not up to 15% in Nigeria.

I think you are unrealistic. In almost all analysis from different media bodies, Kenya and South Africa have always been recorded to have bigger and more slums than Nigeria, despite the fact we have more cities which are bigger in size and a larger overall population. So why the hating?

Pictures don't lie. You can see South Africa pictures depict a truly middle-class country and you see Kenyan pictures look good. Nigeria cities are creepy looking. You cannot even distinguish slum areas from non-slum areas coz 90% of the city is a mishmash of slum and creepy looking buildings. They have maybe 10 pictures that they keep reposting and reposting - coz entire city is cesspool.

Outside Oil and banking (after their recent forced merge of 60 banks to make 18 banks now) nigeria is a sh.iet hole. If kenya forced their 45 banks to merge to 18 banks...then they will be as big as Nigeria banks but kenyan banking sector would be poorer. Kenyan banks still rank Africa's most innovative and profitble. There should be space for small nimble innovative banks. South Africa I think is on the extreme on this - they have I think 5 banks.

As for Nigeria & Lagos GDP; those are totally cooked figures which recession is making a big joke of it.

Nigeria depend on OIL. Nigeria will remain the armpit of Africa for a long time.

What abt our multi billion dollar entertainment industry which is bigger than that of East Africa combined? Our movie industry the third largest in the world?
