This is really necessary ahead of 2019 presidential elections. As any attempt by a losing candidate to forment trouble and instability in the polity after losing will be severely descended upon by instruments of justice |
A scientist, Dr Emmanuel Unuabonah, on Monday called on the Federal Government to implement research findings in an effort to promote research and innovation. Unuabonah, an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Sciences, Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun, made the call in an interview with Newsmen in Lagos. According to him, there are research works of great importance lying idle on the shelves due to lack of funds to push them out. The scientist told Newsmen that, if well supported, research would help Nigeria to use local materials to tackle its challenges. Unuabonah, a recipient of the Nigeria Academy of Science 2017 Gold Medal Prize for physical sciences, said that funding constraint had been limiting the growth of research and innovation in Nigeria. “If adequate recognition is given to research and innovation, it will go a long way in enabling some works which will be of immense benefits to the society. “Lack of funds is a contributing factor to non-research output in the country due to the fact that many researches are financed from the pockets of scientists,” he said. The scientist told Newsmen that his invention with carica papaya (pawpaw) seeds and kaolinite clay for the purification and removal of pathogens from water and wastewater, which earned him the award, was to address ensure good drinking water. “This is achieved through a developed new composite material from carica papaya seeds and kaolinite clay which are abundant in Nigeria. “These materials can be got from many states in the country and at a very low cost. “We should look inwards; when we do, we will find out that solutions to many of our problems are within us. “They can solve our problems cheaply rather than importing solutions that are expensive,” he said. According to the researcher, removal of pathogens from water are essential because they are deadly. “They are the causes of waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever, and kills especially children.’’ Unuabonah said that when functionalised, clay could be used to remove resistant pathogens responsible for multi-drug resistance in human beings. The scientist said that his invention could go a long way to address the problem in the Niger Delta water. He said that demands by a community hindered his team from penetrating the region with the invention. Unuabonah said that enabling environment would facilitate research and enable its impact to be felt more. i fully support the ippis thing in the university. Because the level of ghost workers in the university is startling. |
If you don't have somebody in high places in this country it will be extremely difficult for you to make head way in your career. Thats why i've resolved to also join politics o. Because this country has taught me a huge lesson big time |
"Meanwhile, analysts at FSDH Merchant Bank Limited have argued that considering the foreign exchange differential in the system, the Debt Management Office (DMO) has been under-reporting the country’s debt level." That says it all. Playing ping pong with our debt profile. After they will shout our external reserves has increased, with how much debt? Is just like a man having savings with a bank but has borrowed excessively. The savings only belongs to the man as long as he can service his debt. But if there is any slightest hint of default. The savings becomes the property of the bank. |
this man seems to have the right template to turn around this country. Out of all the candidates so far challenging buhari, he seems to really understand the perilous challenges bedeviling this nation. He seems to be a man who has really done his home work fine. I love his economic ideology of liberalization and decentralization to open up the economy for investment. His economic postulation on paper is better than that of all other candidates so far. And of course he is a big proponent of restructuring of which he appears to seriously have the political will to implement. I used to be a big fan of dankwambo and was rooting for him to be the presidential aspirant of PDP, but i don't think he is ready to be president yet as he is a rookie and we can't afford another jonathan who was not ready to be president. I know a lot of people have this perception of corruption about Atiku of which i am one of them, but lets face it, non of our politicians are saints, as buhari has demystify political sainthood. As for me i want a vibrant economy, based on the tripod stand of liberalization, decentralization and restructuring to spur and attract investments from far and wide into this country like the posturing of the economy during the jonathan era. The economy should be our area of priority interms of the candidate we vote for ahead of 2019, because it affects everybody, as we can't afford a president that does not understand the rudiments of modern economics. So far Atiku seems to have the template for that, and he has won me over, if someone else comes with something superior to what Atiku is proposing, the candidate has my support. |
long overdue. the next thing should be laws enacted to prevent abuse of this security apparatus |
LaudableXX:the problem we have in this country is lack of will to enforce policies. Each successive government that comes in abandons the blue prints of previous govt, thereby robbing the economy sustainable growth |
on the surface it is good. but if you look dip, if the policy entails banning of importation of second motor vehicle, then you have to look at the cost and affordability of the new ones produced here. banning the second hand ones presently makes second hand vehicles expensive, and the ones produced here that are brand new will not be cheap either. so a middle ground has to be reached in this instance. |
majekdom2:my brother, i'm just tired of the numbskulls parading themselves as politiicans in this country. That is why i implore everyone to be involved in politics, because whether you like it or not, everyone is affected by politics at the end of the day. I never had the interest to contest for any position in this country. but i've changed my mind. I have it in mind to contest for political post in this country in the nearest future. We can no longer sit on the fence and allow incorrigible fellows pull the strings for us. |
izzou:the problem with this govt is that there is no deliberate plan to shield manufacturing industries to cushion the effects of this recession and protect jobs. In advanced countries they take deliberate step to protect these huge industries because of the multiplier effects of unemployment in the economy. The govt of advanced countries are so scared of unemployment such that they will do literary any thing to prevent it. but here the reverse is the case. |
Jiang:Lol. the mistake with most graduates especially in this country is their narrow prespective in life. They tend focus only in the area they graduate from, disregarding other areas. My profession is in the medical field, but i've also cultivated interest in economics, entrepreneurship, philosophy, politics, entertainments, sports, agriculture, ICT, civil engineering etc. i may not be a specialist in these areas, but i study them to atleast have a general knowledge about them and have some basic form of understanding when discussions are made about them. Morever i want to become an investor, even though i don't have the money now, i can atleast read up on the various industries, you never can tell when an idea can pop up. So the problem with most Nigerian graduates is that they are not versatile. they only focus in their area of expertise neglecting other areas. |
State police is the way to go. Laws can be put in place to prevent governors from high jacking it for their political wimps. However the benefits of state police far outweighs the percieved the demerits of it. |
i'm not a fan of buhari, but for this one alone i'll give him credit for abstaining. This deal will not benefit us now as we are not yet at that level. May be in the future, when we have fixed issues that makes our local products uncompetitive due to the high cost of production. |
then who uses Mercedez Maybach? i like the car scarrer |
i'll support him and atiku candidacy. |
dingbang:so the killings should continue unabated because of wike or el rufai? will they be in govt forever. you are very gullible. |
Babacele:Lol. can you compare the first three years of pdp from 1999 with that of APC from 2015. Because the last time i checked PDP first three years from 1999 is miles better than that of APC. that should be the basis of comparison to give a clear picture. |
Babacele:baba APC's record in the last 3 years has been very abysmal. Its pdp that will have a field day tearing into APC's record during political dialogue. |
make this girl know wetin she dey talk o. cos i get plans for canada too o. |
highly commendable |
then why did he campaign for buhari emergence |
alen4smith:lol. those are mere fables. so Markafi will now step down for wike ahead of 2023?. baba if the dynamics favour an atiku win, pdp will readily hand him the ticket. as of now, the momentum seems to be shifting in his direction |
if this happens for real. then buhari should start preparing to leave aso rock by 2019. |
AbuMaryam1:lol. thats a myth that will be demystified soon |
for those writing off atiku. under rate him at own peril. he has more loyalist even within PMB govt willing to work for him. If he gets obasanjo endorsement, it is game over for buhari |
alen4smith:lol. baba i will support a politiican with a realistic chance of defeating buhari. As it is now, dankwambo is acting too docile when other gladiators are struting their stuff. I can''t waste my time rooting for somebody who does is not rooting for himself and does not understand poltics. Atiku is showing serious interest and working hard to clinch the position. i love people who work hard. |
no amount of political black mail of people businesses been affected will change our minds. we voted jonathan out on the grounds of insecurity. Buhari should also face the same fate, because his own is worse with economic hardship. if our interest and that ot TY danjuma, Obj and IBB aligns for any reason at all, it is a welcomed development. |
ASUU has finally spoken up. Operation get your PVC ahead of 2019 |
i was rooting for dankwambo, but as it is he is not serious, i will rather support Atiku. He has what it takes to dethrone buhari. |
no wonder mikel baby mama the clink like tatoo unto mikel |

In the late '80s to early '90s, the car seats used for locally assembled Peugeot cars as well as the windshields, were sourced and supplied locally. Even the plastic bumpers and a few other items like rear lights and front lights, were made by local manufacturers.
Unfortunately, things changed in the industrial sector, and the companies supplying these items folded up, because for several years after, Peugeot started importing fully built up vehicles, instead of assembling their cars locally. It was just a few years back, that they started local assembly operations, again.
