PoliticsConstruction Of 134km Dual Carriage Highway In Nothern Cross River Flagged Off. by IBBG(op): 9:08am On Nov 08, 2016
In a bid to provide more access to the famous Obudu Ranch Resort and link the produce markets, Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has flagged off the construction work on a 134 kilometers Mfom-Okpoma-Imaje-Bekwarra-Obudu-Obanliku dual carriage way.
The construction of the federal road which will traverse the five local government areas of Northern Senatorial District of the state is valued at N31 billion and it is expected to be completed in 30 months.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony that was attended by his deputy, Professor Ivara Esu, House of Representatives members from the five local government areas, traditional rulers as well as indigenes of Bekwarra, Yala, Ogoja, Obudu and Obanliku, Ayade said the event marked “the beginning of a new journey in the history of the Northern Senatorial District which for 45 years has been denied the luxury of driving on good roads occasioned by the challenges of the times and circumstances not occasioned by our people.”

PoliticsS/korean Firm To Build 550 Megawatts Power Plant In Cross River by IBBG(op): 6:54am On Oct 31, 2016
A South Korean firm, Kingline Integrated Power Development Limited, has expressed its readiness to build a 550 Megawatts gas fired power plant in Cross River State.
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Sean Kim, dropped the hint when he led a delegation from the firm on a courtesy visit to the governor, Senator Ben Ayade, in Government House, Calabar, yesterday.
He said: “We have already done some preliminary checks in Cross River State and the proposed sites meet all of the requirements, which is why we are here today. The next phase will be the application for a generation licence, initiating processes for the Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, and preparations for the project, among other necessary bureaucratic processes.”
Giving insight into the financing of the project, bearing in mind the current economic realities in the country, Kim said: “On financing, about 560 million USD will be coming in from the company and other investors which includes the World Bank.”
Responding, Governor Ayade lauded the firm for bringing the projects to the state, saying the idea of gas fired turbines was apt because the state’s capital city, Calabar, was designed to be “the epicenter of gas gathering around the southern flank in the national gas master plan.”
“You are doing the right thing, you are coming at the right time as this is the time that you also have the right incentives.”

i think where the op has a point there is if and only if the yorubas can reach out to gej then they can get the support of SS n SE. Gej though quite now, will be very influencial come 2019. Many political big wigs will jostle for his approval. cos getting Gej approval means you've pocketed SS n SE. I think he is that influencial and we see him as an elder stateman.

I showed you a chart of our growth rate declining rapidly, but you think even though GEJ and his world class crew couldnt do anything when the oil prices were still considerably higher, you expected buhari to wave a magic wand and turn things around with oil prices below $30?... To you and your co travellers it just has to be buharis fault 100% and these are the same people accusing buhari of blame game?.. Tufia... your deep prejudice for buhari has completely eroded the last semblance of objectivity in you.. good night
if buhari feels there is nothing he can do, he should resign and get out of office for those who can do it to step in. no point giving us those untenable excuse of waving the magic wand. he should save us the money we would wasting on his salary for doing nothing. being the president is not about going there to tell us about magic wand and other useless analogy.

The 'competent' PhD holder led past admin with a world renown NOI spent $10billion of our foreign reserves to stabilise the naira in their last 6 months but the naira still fell from 160 to 220. The new admin couldnt risk spending a dime to defend the naira cos the reserves had been depleted to dangerously low levels but you expect naira to be 250 because you think the new admin is headed by a demi-god?... clap for yourself.
you keep dodging the main question, and beating around the bush. this govt has done nothing to improve anything. instead they've further accelerated, excerbated, and compounded the situation on ground. their expired policy is what is really causing the problem. that is why nigerians are calling for their heads, so far so good no right step in the right direction. instead they are busy slow footing when it comes to coming up with concrete plans to effectively manage the economy.
BusinessRe: Recession: Investment Inflow Shrinks By N642bn Under Buhari by IBBG(m): 11:56pm On Sep 18, 2016

Oh yes the last admin did not inherit eldorado but at least they inherited a nation with reserves and savings running up to $60bn, they also inherited a nation with less than $5bn in external debts. They did not also inherit a nation which had just recently lost over 60% of its income so your comparison is baseless. The true test of the last administration's competence was in the last 6-9months when oil prices began to crash. That period was what exposed tne ass of the last admin. FG borrowing to pay worker salary, fuel importers owed for 9 months, gdp growth rate that nigeria boasted of at 7% crashed steadily to 2.3%, foreign reserves crashed by $10bn in 6 months, the money was probably used to stabilise the naira but the naira nevertheless still crashed from N160 to N220 in less than 6 months etc etc.... I could go on and on... go get yourself informed, the economy was booming because oil price was unprecedentedly high all throught that admin.. Except you will say GEJ was the one who made oil price high, then your argument golds no water.

Regarding the $30billion foreign reserve, the $3.7billion obj inherited os worth about $37billion today (if only you understand the concept of foreign reserves). Nigeria's import bill today is more than 10 times what it was in 1999. Compared to today, how many people in 1999 were into inportation?... how much was the demand for forex then compared to today when everyone has an international atm card?
base on your assertion, the last administration inherited 60 billion and spent 30 billion within 5 years with fuel subsidy inclusive. this current administration has inherited 30 billion without fuel subsidy. how has it prudently managed the money left in it coffers, rather than give excuse and blame the unblameable. the truth is if this current administration were actually really competent the true exchange rate will be 250 naira to a dollar. but the useless and toxic policy of this administration is what is bringing untold hardship upon nigerians. no amount of excuse is tenable for this current incompetent and useless administration.

Wetin concern gowon or chadians or almajiri inside this matter?... What sort of directionless ranting is this?...

okay since Hausa-Fulani almajiris are the problem, abeg why could a PhD holder southern president not do anything to diversify the economy in the 5 years he ruled when the nation fortunately even had the required cash to diversify from oil?

By the way, regarding the ongoing oil exploration...., that a country is trying to increase its source of income, that doesn't mean it should abandon its present, proven income source.
you still contradicting yourself. if oil price is falling should'nt the president look for elsewhere to deversify the ecoomy? abi diversification na just for mouth?

$30billion foreign reserves for an import dependent and import addicted nation of 170million+ people is barely enough to meet a 3 month import cover. Firstly go and educate yourself on the meaning and use of foreign reserves before you return here to ask this your question.

A JSS 2 student with N1000 savings/pocket money is more comfortable than a father of 4 who has just lost his job and who has 100k savings in his account. I believe this doesnt need any explanation.
chairman that one na just excuse. obasanjo inherited next to nothing frm the military. but yet we did not suffer like this, even if buhari inherited 100 billion dollars he will still look for something to complain about. The last administration did not meet an eldorado nation on ground, but rather did what they could to salvage the economy and keep it afloat. the truth is that this govt has nothing to offer, even with the phantom fuel subsidy removal.

When you cut the tap root of a tree, the leaves don't wither immediately... it takes at least a week or two before the leaves begin to dry up and fall off. But common sense entails that the problem did not start when the leaves began to fall.

Nigeria was on life support and the economy was accelerating to the abyss when the last govt handed over to the present govt. Only ignorant people dont kbow that and only ignorant people argue about that when reminded of the facts. A country that was already borrowing to pay FG workers' salaries, a country that was already owing fuel importers for almost a year, a country whose foreign reserves dropped by $10bn in 6 months even when oil still sold above $65 (meanwhile the naira still crashed from N160 to N220 within few months notwithstanding the $10bn expended to checkmate this drop), a country whose gdp growth rate just within 3 consecutive quarters had dropped from 6-7% to 2.3%. This same country owed all contractors their entitlements since 2014, forcing contractors to abandon site and render thousands jobless, not until this year (2016) when the new govt managed to provide funds to get contractors back to site. I could go on and on, but then, there is no point. People who have chosen to be ignorant will remain so irrespective of what they are shown. So bros, park well!
chairman leave all this plenty excuse. i thought the claim was the treasury was empty, so what happened to the 30 billion dollars left by the last administration, and the subsidy savings since fuel subsidy has been removed.

He shared all our reserves in 2014

He looted the treasury dry carrying cash around in bullion van.

He drop oil price.

He owed contractors before assuming office.

He approved all memo from Okonjo Iweala on disbursement wether to Tompolo or nobody.

He created Niger Delta Avengers to boost our oil production.

BUHARI is the problem I agree.

As much as I know Fayose and PDP must be desperate to come back to power to avoid prosecution.

I agree Buhari is their only problem.

Oil contributes 15% of our GDP, how does the drop in oil price take us into recession? This is just like telling me a shareholder holding 15% shares in a country can unilaterally decide the company's future. Drop in crude prices should have only affected our earnings but could never have driven us into recession, economic mismanagement did. And the chief contributor to such mismanagement is the constant policy summersault by the present government, nothing erodes investors confidence more than that.
God bless u sir. most people keep blaming it on oil revenue alone. my question what has this govt done to protect investors and their interest in the economy. for crying out loud. 30 billion dollars was left in the treasury for this administration to begin life with, isn't that not enough to have prudently manage our economy. instead they keep wailing about empty treasury. what are they doing with the susidy money. cos we the masses have benefited from any palliatives they promised they will execute with the subsidy funds. this govt currently is worst than the outgone one interms of managing the economy. atleast the last govt were pro investor friendly, atleast we benefited a little from the partial susidy removal, with sure p, graduate internship scheme, and fertilizer susidy.

Let us not be fooled. Buhari doesn't have what it takes to lead a complex economy like Nigeria. He would have done well as the EFCC chairman. The focal point of his campaign was corruption, Nigeria didnt look too hard that all Buhari's economic plans for Nigeria was handouts. All he was promising was food to little Children and 5k to the youths. That is a typical almajiri thinking as it is a culture in the north. There wasnt any talks about industries and innovations. No talks about human capital development. His major source of income to manage the economy was recovering loots to handle economic issues. It is like planning to pay you child's school fees with the money someone owes you which you aren't sure he will pay you. He has no idea of how a nation works or what to do and he leans on Kith and Kin for direction and not professionals. It is no coincidence that the economy always goes into hard and biting recession every time he ascends the throne. I also think that, he has a bit of bad luck. Everything that could possible go wrong has gone wrong under him. There is something about him that brings sadness, tension and lack all the time. Under Buhari people are never happy and free. They feel stifled. Honestly Buhari isn't a creative person and lacks the ability to bring out creativity in people or allow people to blossom in creativity.
u are absolutely right. it is not a matter of hatred for the president, it is a matter of having the capacity to deliver. i doubt if the president ever brainstorm on how to critically improve the nation. No leadership vision at all from him, no projections and bench marks. zero leadership qualities.
