Defenders lose aerial duels all the time. You only have to look at any opta stats, there is no defender with 100% win rate, not even 70%. The reason goals are not scored whenever they lose is because their teammates maintain appropriate distance to clear up the drop which Caicedo and Tosin failed to do

Even in University football, we always make sure we have 1 man drop 5 yards from any striker to mop up. Somehow Caicedo and Tosin were not "goalside" of Mbuemo from that header. That is a disgusting lack of awareness. Something that was second nature to us at amateur level should not have to be explained to pro footballers. Before every match we discuss as defenders. I will go up on the striker and "clap him" - you maintain 5 to 10 yard distance to clear up anything that drops - or vice versa. From this simple rule, we did not concede from open play all season. The error in that play is highlighted below, not losing a header against a 6ft 5 striker
