if you watched the game you would agree that he did ok, just as the person you wrote the words "commendable pointed out".

He did well against that Tottenham midfield, was he supposed to completely outclass them considering the team he was playing for vs the one he was playing against.

Is commending a 20year old EPL newbie now a bad thing
I don't doubt he did well. I'm questioning how you think those statistics you posted buttress that point, when they actually spoil the point you are trying to make. Know what statistics mean and how to use them before you do. There is no way 16 completed passes and 67% pass completion further your argument of a midfielder doing well. It just means you haven't got a clue how to interpret football statistics.

Conor Gallagher vs Tottenham (H):

42 touches
16 completed passes (66.7% accuracy)
2 shots (1 shot hit woodwork)
3/4 successful dribbles
3 tackles
1 clearance
7/15 ground duels won
2/2 aerial duels won

Another commendable display against top opposition.

Chelsea U-20 midfield trio: Gilmour, Ampadu, Gallagher cool
Are you kidding me?

These are extremely poor stats.

16 completed passes in a match with only 67% completion?

Please learn what good midfield stats look like before bringing stats erroneously here.

A average midfield stat is at least 50 passes with 80% success, talkless of good stat that will be 70+ passes with 90% success.

okay pit a kamala Harris against a tucker Carlson, who should the democratic candidate appeal to? Liberals or undecideds?
Harris herself is a moderate so any promises she makes to the hard-left will not be taken too seriously. All she needs to do is temper her language and promise the centrists something also. Obama was good at that.

I wouldn't care much personally if both candidates are centrist and wouldn't even vote cos both satisfy what I need from Government which is stability. That's you guys internal matter, but if you pitch a hard-left candidate against a GOP moderate, you will definitely lose.

BraniacX:
the next Republican opponent most likely won't be trumpist or fascist, what do you suggest the democratic party do then given all we have discussed?
They most likely will based on the GOP current base, which is why staying centrist is more profitable.

Besides next election will be halfway through a potential Biden/Harris 8 year term. A party cannot pivot halfway through their own leadership. That's tantamount to usurping yourselves ie creating the argument that Biden/Harris are not doing a good job which is cutting off your nose on the National stage. A party divided cannot win the Nation. Primaries doing an incumbency should be largely uncontested, not a stage to rake up internal ideological differences.

so a political aspirant should then go scouting for probable(undecideds) votes before first securing his likely votes in his base(liberals) right? In what world is that a recipe for victory? That Hillary failed at that wasn't apparent enough to you
If you have a fascist opponent like Trump, you don't need to worry much about your liberal base cos they will show up. If the GOP present a moderate candidate next time, then you can worry about your base. Right now, the GOP is so extreme that the winning formula for Dems is to claim the centre, not mirror the GOP, simple.

150 million people voted this election. How many are registered party members for Dems and GOP? Subtract that from 150m, that should tell you roughly the size of the undecided (uncommitted/Independent) pie. It's not a number to be sniffed at. It's political naivety to ignore what may appeal to that demographic. They are in that demographic because they don't have strong or extreme beliefs or don't care enough. That's what you need to win in an election.

so you agree then that trump and not policy is the reason for the liberal vote! If that reasoning can apply to liberals and rebel republicans why can't it apply to undecideds?
Whether you appreciate it or not, some people (undecideds) just don't care about politics that much, while other undecideds are very informed but selfish and only judge politics on what's in it for them. I fall into the second category, and mostly vote on tax issues and decency of candidates rhetoric (I don't vote based on moral issues like abortion, religious views, gay rights etc, I only care about my safety as a black man). A white man in the same position could overlook Trumps racist invectives cos it doesn't affect him directly rather than vote for Sanders who he knows may hammer his taxes.

what do you think would have happened to bidden's chances of winning in those states if he won those undecideds but the liberal voters and they do exist especially in the cities sat this out or protest voted for trump? undecided
The liberal voters will just not sit out an election where Trump is on the ballot. They will even vote an orangutan over Trump. The reason some sat out the last election is cos they believed the polls that Hilary would win, and were treating their absence as a protest vote. Election na simple Mathematics.

BraniacX:
get this fact straight once and for all, this election wasn't about policies! It was about personality, decency and accountability! If it was about policy the democrats would have lost! It was more about voting trump out hence the massive turnout for democrats than it was of voting for bidden! If it was about policies, many republicans won't vote for bidden and liberal democrats would have sat out in protest and seeing as the Republican and religious base always turns up bidden would have losr
Not disputing the above. What I'm telling you is that there are at least 100k people plus in each of those swing states willing to overlook Trumps foibles and vote for him if Sanders policies were the ones presented which would lose the election. You already near maximised the far-left vote this election due to their hatred for Trump so not much more to gain from that demographic, but you would have lost those demographic in those swing states that just would not back a far-left candidate, thereby losing the election. Your leadership knows this which is why they quietly worked to ensure Bidens emergence from the primaries despite trailing in the early stage.

in these swing states, the majority of democratic votes come from the big cities which by relative comparison are by and large liberal so yes liberal candidates can gather votes in the Midwest too whether it will be enough I'm not so sure as of now, but if we take reeducation and reorientation of the electorate very seriously by pointing the facts beyond the Republican rhetorics out even the growing younger population in the rust belt will break of ranks from their traditional Republican supporting elders and grow the democratic base
That's wrong. Election is all about margins and when you are winning swing states by 20k votes, believe me there are more than 250k votes up for grabs in these swing states by going centrist.

Many mainstream policies today were once considered too radical and too liberal! Heck! Abe Lincoln was considered too liberal in his time! Even J. F. Kennedy was considered too liberal! Every time American society has moved forward with the times, it was because of liberal pressure so when you are condemning the liberal left remember what they have done for America
Well it's a progression and America is not ready for it at this stage. Let some older people pass on first and the new generation may be open to these ideas in 30-40 years like Obalgwe1 stated. You can't rush anything in life. These ideas were illegal just 60 years ago under McCarthyism so you have to give it time. Europe was able to implement these ideas immediately after the 2nd World war because many people had lost family and assets and that changed their orientation about what they expect from the State. America did not go through that experience so it would require the passing of time, more international travel and exposure to open them up to such ideas.

Right now the wolf at the door is Fascism/Trumpism and that's what the far left needs to help avoid by producing a centrist candidate from their party, otherwise the country will swing even further away from their goal
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Democrats Take Control Of Congress by Ibime(m): 8:34pm On Nov 08, 2020

he won all these votes as a matter of fact and that is not to be disputed! A majority of these votes weren't a vote for a centrist democrats, they were votes against trump and that is also a fact! If the liberal wing of the democratic party had sat this election out like they did in 2016 bidden would have lost and that is also a fact! It is annoying how the democratic party take its large and growing liberal wing for granted expecting them to toe the line when called upon and shut up when shoved outside then attempt to guilt trip them when they sit out in protest! If nothing else, the liberal wing is the most loyal wing of the democratic party who take matters of policy very seriously! Now that bidden has won people like you among other Republican talking heads want to overlook their immense contribution to this victory, republicans will never allow democrats to have a stake in their government when in power but frame democrats discourse in a way that will force democrats to give them a stake in a democrats government! If nobody else is insightful enough to point that out some still are, republicans never build bridges but expect democrats to all the time and that is why people like Mitch McConnell can be as obstructionist and recalcitrant as he is. He is a typical republicans Republican and to someone like me far worse and more dangerous than trump
Liberal wing of the Democratic party is mostly concentrated in areas where Democrats would win without their vote (New York, California etc). There is more volume of vote to be won in the swing states by going moderate than far-left can provide in those states. Whether the far-left is growing or not is inconsequential if it cannot garner enough electoral votes. There are problems going forward for the Dems as I cannot see any centrist rising star which is why they had to resurrect Biden from retirement. All your rising stars are not moderate enough and therefore unelectable. This is an important fight for you guys to take seriously because the Republicans can win with fringe candidates like Trump while the democrats cannot. Therefore you guys just have to weigh the lesser of two evils and go with the centrists in your party.

@ bolded, funny you should say that seeing as non of the so called socialist democrats or justice democrats as they like to be called lost their seats instead system democrats or corporate beholden democrats are the ones loosing their seats!
The left wing democrats (the squad people) can only win in inner cities. They can't win in middle America, and if the Democratic party goes their way, they will never win on National level. Pelosi has done a good job managing them not to become the face of the party. It is never a good idea for a party to go too extreme if they want to succeed. Any middle class person with assets to protect will always vote against a hard jerk to the left. Na students and poor people dey vote extreme left for the most part. I've been supporting Conservatives in UK for most of the last decade due to Jeremy Corbyn and Ed Milliband going too far left in the Labour Party, while the Conservatives presented moderate options in Cameron and Theresa May. From 2000-2010 I was a natural Labour supporter cos their candidates (Tony Blair and Gordon Brown) were moderates. If you give the average centre-left citizen a choice between far-left and centre-right, he will go centre-right.

Most politicians cannot oppose Trump openly for fear that they will lose. Just like Democrats cannot condemn antifa and the far left. They need them for votes. Its the same reason Nigerian politicians in every region cannot openly condemn OPC, Miyetti allah, IPOB or MEND regardless of how crazy and illogical they are
Romney can only do that because it doesnt affect him in votes, he is in Utah where his mormon roots will work for him, also he is not due for reelection till 2024 after Trump would have gone.

Trump controls the party because the president whoever he is becomes the defacto leader of the party who control a sizable followership just like Biden had to embrace the Sanders people. Once Trump leaves the owners of the party will take over their party from the ruins. They have to queue behind Trump for now because they need his crazies to regain the Senate in runoff elections in January. Assuming Trump was blown away and lost bigly the real Republicans will come out. Trumps people cut across both parties. And with the nature of democracy you need every vote

All the FBI guys indicting him for Russia are Republicans, Georgia governor and SOS are Republicans

After Biden inauguration I believe the party owners will come out again

See the tweets from Bush, Jeb Romney and many prominent Republicans
In 2016, 12% of Sanders supporters voted Trump and about 20% sat out the general elections
Let's hope what you wrote up here is true for a better world, but I feel the voters determine the posture of the politicians and too many GOP voters are loonies at present. I still remember how Tea Party conducted a sweep of all moderates in the party some years ago in subnational elections.

I don't see it as that gloomy

There is a rise of extremism on both sides, far right and far left

Sanders was going to be nominee for the Democrats if not for joint efforts to frustrate his effort which some have argued is somehow anti democratic which is what the Republicans failed to control in 2016 they believed the normal agelong politicking will weed out Trump and didn't put in a "fix" to coalesce behind Jeb or Kasich

Just like the far left is believing getting rid of billionaires, getting rid of law enforcement, free for all bathrooms etc that are recipe for chaos. A liberal scientist recently suggested eating human flesh to curb climate change just like some batshit crazies believe that Clinton eats children grin

I have lived in Texas and lived in Massachusetts among other states and I will tell you I have experienced both sides. How the many laws enacted and stifle growth that is why many people are fleeing liberal states to the red states

There are still normal people on both sides. Take away political needs, a Biden has more in common with Bush and Romney than he has with AOC or Sanders

Unless you are saying all those voice of reasons like Biden Bush Powell Clinton Romney etc will suddenly go extinct. There will always be crazy people on both sides, we only have to not give them the center stage. That is why anytime Trump tries to tie Biden to Sanders he quickly said "I am not Sanders and that is why I defeated him"

Trump only brought out the right wing crazies and they are going back to where they belong. Hopefully the crazies on the left too go away

A Virginia congresswoman in a conference call last Thursday told the Democrats to stop all these socialist nonsense and that was why they are losing seats

I believe moderate politics will still stay after we all realize extremists are bad for us all
You are too optimistic, intact blinkered by optimism. Trump controls the Republican party machinery currently and either him or his appointee will control it in 4 years. To show how much the GOP is in hock to the loonies, Romney is currently the only elected GOP member on National level to congratulate Biden and ask Trump to step down. The rest are too scared of what Trumpets will do to them for going off message.

The democrats have also come close to losing control of the party to the left, but each time manage to produce a centrist candidate.

Trumpism is straight up assault on the truth - the ferocious support for those lies, denial of the true facts, relentless effort to create another reality outside the facts, and an attempt to force everyone else to believe this new reality.

That is a dangerous disease that must be contained at all costs. I don't want to wake up in a world where someone dare says black is now blue, and millions of Trumpanzees try to tell us normal ones, that a man who's told 20k lies in 4 years is 'ordained', and so, black must now be blue.

The last person who almost got away this type of 5hit took millions of lives with him.

There are problems with right wing and left wing politics and then there is Trumpism. If Trumpism were to rise on the left tomorrow, then it must be crushed equally, at all costs.
Well said. We are at a critical point in politics. I have followed Western politics closely for at least 23 years and never have I been worried about the future of civilised society until the last 4 years. Truth and facts must be protected at all cost which is difficult to do in this day of social media where people are fed the same news they click on by social media algorithms. Twitter and Facebook feet must be held to the fire over the next few years for the role their algorithms play in the dissemination of fake news.

I just blocked a lifelong friend on Watsapp for constantly feeding me fake news and last night blocked a family member for sending me video from Alex Jones infowars channel alleging faked watermarks on some ballots or some nonsense like that. A fellow black man sending me Alex Jones video offends me deeply to the point of putting that person on snooze even though we might be related by blood.

It's the same way many Nigerians often share videos from NeoNazi channels affirming their political views but not knowing what they are sharing. The same family member put the same video in our extended family Watsapp group at which point I asked him not to share neoNazi videos on family group please and cautioned the Group to always sense-check the source of what they are sharing, and if in doubt only share news from established mainstream media sources which go through proper editorial review.

There are still many good people in this country. Georgia gov and Secretary of State are all Republicans and promised all votes would be counted
I fear the horse has bolted for the GOP. I do not see moderate politics ever returning to the GOP, although they may slightly improve from the Trump years. This started with Sarah Palin in 2008, followed by many moderates being chased from the GOP by the Tea Party. Trump jumped on this groundswell and actually launched his Republican career off the back of the Obama birther conspiracy lie which gained so much traction that Trump found his next con in this group of Tea Party people who prefer lies and falsehoods to Truth. I need not tell you that the preparation for supremacist ideas start with the disregard of truth. It is eerily reminiscent of the Nazi party in the 1920s which started with small scale demonisation of Jews (read Mexicans and Muslims) but the underlying similarity between both movements is the total disregard for truth. That's why far-right conspiracy channels like Alex Jones and co have gone majorly mainstream.

I agree with the poster earlier who said America is on a dangerous precipice if half the population have no regard for truth, underpinned by supremacist ideology.

Shout out to the Bushes, Mitt Romneys, John McCains etc. They will be the last of the moderate Republicans to taste power within the GOP for a long time.
