Travel / Re: Should I Stay and Complete My PhD Or Accept a 30 NZD Per Hour Job In New Zealand by iceberg54: 7:04pm On Oct 17, 2023
Middleborn:
I just got a job offer in New Zealand, I am to earn 30 New Zealand dollars per hour.

I have been pursuing a career in academics and I currently run a PhD program in a federal University. I am currently in the field gathering my data.

Should i move to New Zealand or should I turn down the job to complete my PhD? Or is there a way to continue and finish my PhD program via video conferencing since I just have to present my research work.
Please help me. Tell me what may work in this situation.

Do you currently have a job in Nigeria?

Firstly, make sure the job offer in NZ is valid. There are lots of scams out there.

What type of visa are you going to NZ with? Does it provide a pathway to permanent residency? Ask your potential employer that question or do your research.

You can always continue your PhD in NZ later if that's what you really want. Many universities allow transfer of credits from prior studies if it's in the same field.

There are opportunities for PhD scholarships in NZ and neighbouring Australia.

All the best.

You don't want it to be approved? grin

This is absolutely unnecessary.

What will he gain if your visa isn't approved?

He spends his valuable time here helping others which he doesn't have to do. You can share the outcome of your application for everyone to learn from. That is the purpose of this thread.

What you're currently doing is uncalled for.

Hi All,

My sis is heading to Curtin University next week and looking for accommodation. Please if you're a Curtin student and have any links, kindly inbox me. A room in a shared accommodation will be fine. We have tried the usual avenues but not getting any response.

Thanks guys.

What is your occupation: Quality Engineer

Attached is the skill assessment I took (TSS Skills Assessment & Competency-Based Virtual Interview {Manual format}), which I completed and submitted for about two weeks before I was sent the offer letter.
The offer was actually advertised on GUINNESS PLC Australia Annex Careers & Latest Job Vacancies.

Does anyone stays in Melbourne?, I'd like if you can help confirm the existence of GUINNESS PLC Australia Annex in the address provided Guinness Level 22 #120 Spencer Street | Melbourne | Victoria | VIC 3000 | Australia.

I have also attached some of the documents out of the ones I have here with me.
@iceberg54, can I private chat you?

Yes, you can.

Hello @FBS/Everyone,

I need help in confirming the genuinity of the job offer, visa application process and documents sent down by my Australian employer.

I got a job offer from Guinness Australia, Guinness Level 22 #120 Spencer Street | Melbourne | Victoria | VIC 3000 | Australia | and was asked to contact assigned DFAT Case officer who requested me to make a payment of $489 for the enhanced GTE Regional Express Clearance/TSS Subclass 482 Work permit Authorization.

I was about to proceed to make payment but needed to be sure I am doing the right thing and not being scammed.

I would love to share some of the forms/documents so as to help confirm.

Most likely a scam, please don't make payment yet.

What is your occupation?

Have you done any skills assessment with the relevant body in Australia e.g Engineers Australia, Vetasses etc?

Did you write any English tests? E.g. IELTS

Which year did you get your visa?
Was this before single points was introduced or after?

You're right mate. That was before. Thanks for the correction.

Good morning everyone,
Please, I woke to ITA for visa class 189 this morning. I'm more than elated.

However, I am getting married by 29th of this month. Please, how do I go about this application consideration my change of status.? My points is just 65 though without IELTS score.

please assist. Thanks

Modified

Please clarify the bolded. Do you mean you didn't do IELTS before submitting EOI? If that is the case, your ITA might be invalid.
.

All the best.

Nobody wants to answer me or is their any thread specifically for my question.

Please I am currently in Russia, and my partner who is Australian citizen wants to bring me up there (Melbourne) specifically

1. She got me a job and full time permanent job and the organisation is willing to sponsor and send me support documents to bring me up then we get married

2. In my own sense I want her to come to Nigeria so I can return back and we get married and I will apply for marriage visa

Please guys what do you think. I need someone to advice me on what to do.

Because I am thinking if I have to go through the work embassy might deny me with a reason that a citizen in Australia can do that job they want to spend money and bring me up.

But the obviously the company said the vacant have been empty for a long time now.

Gurus in the house pls help

@justwise

It is the company's responsibility (not yours) to prove to DHA that they couldn't find an Australian to do the job. They have to do this before they can sponsor you and before visa application. Hence you can't be denied visa on that basis. A lot of people are coming in through work sponsorship these days due to the skills shortage locally.

More importantly what is your occupation? Do you have a valid skills assessment? Do you have the required work experience in that occupation? You need to go through the requirements of 482 visa and see if you are even eligible. If you are, and the company is willing to sponsor, this is the best option.

Option 2 is a very stressful process. It can take at least two years in many cases before you are granted a spouse visa.

Cheers.

Started job from 04/2018, vetasses approved from 04/2029 to 2021. Still with that job.

Wrote to vetasses and they advised renewal application so the months from 2021 till date will count. I'm about doing that but only hope the ITA which elapses 21st October will still be there when the renewal results show. Unfortunately no priority for vetasses renewal.

Is there something else I can do? Has anyone had this experience before?

Please share or advise.

You definitely don't need to reassess since you're still in that job.

By the way, there was a DHA ruling a few years back that started allowing applicants to claim work experience points before the deeming date set by Vetasses as long as the work experience was after the qualification that made you eligible. This meant you could start claiming points from 04/2018.

I am not sure if this rule is still in place. Can you please confirm @tunlex01

Isn't it still the same thing? If one wants to enter Aussie, and they are preventing the person from entering simply for not taking the vaccine, does that not mean that they are indirectly forcing people to take the vaccine?

That's an indirect way of forcing people to be vaccinated.

If you don't take, you won't enter. That's more like force.

There are over 190 other countries you can go to. No one is being forced to come.

But this one they will be forcing people to be vaccinated, isn't this a terrible move? As there are people that won't want to take any vaccine of this sort.

They are not "forcing" people to be vaccinated. They are only allowing vaccinated people in.

@tunlex01,

Thank you!

I can move the budget to btwn 1.2M - 1.7M. I am sure that would be enough to get something decent. It looks like the property market is as crazy as it is here in Canada if not worse.

I know it is oyiboland so we would also be the minority population. I just want a place or suburb where you get to see/bump into ur kind from time to time. About the school for the kids, I am not concerned about his class per se - more like the population of our kind in the entire school. I have changed my son's school twice here in Canada and I can tell how he has reacted to both situations.

I really appreciate your help and all the feedback.

Western and south-western Sydney are both within 1hr from CBD and have many new areas with developers offering house and land packages eg. Leppington, Marsden Park, Riverstone, Schofields, Box Hill, Oran Park, Austral etc. I believe there is a sizable number of Africans in these areas.

Regarding price, you won't get anything around the 600k mark apart from apartment units. Single stories - around 800k+ depending on area and double story definitely 900k upwards (but not as high as 1.7m). You can save if you don't mind a town house (Yes, the property market is crazy right now). Check realeastate.com.au or domain.com.au.

I advice you get in first and rent like you mentioned. Then explore those areas in the first few months to decide what you really want.

Cheers.

Send an email to support, request for a link to initiate a bank transfer from your Nigerian account. That is the method i used. Though flutterwave charges an extra 2000 naira.

Thanks a lot.
