I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist and I am also registered in the UK as Biomedical Scientist with a Licentiate membership of the Institute of Biomedical Science (UK). I am submitting my documents to AIMS for assessment tomorrow with IELTS overall test score of 7.5, 5 years of work experience starting from internship till now.

I just hope AIMS will assess me as a Medical Laboratory Scientist because of my registration and MSc degree in Public Health in the UK. I am yet to read this thread very well but when the need arises, I will come back to it.
There was an agreement between IBMS and AIMS sometimes ago. I believe you should be assessed positively, especially with your experience.

Hi all,

For all the engineers in the house, is it recommended to do the skilled work assessment? my brother recently got a positive assessment as an electrical engineer and is skeptical about paying another fee for the assessment. what is your advice? if the assessment is recommended, what other supporting documents can he include apart from the reference letter, offer letter, promotion letter, confirmation of appointment, bank statement and pension statement. he does not have his payslips.

Your suggestion will be highly appreciated.

I think he only needs that if he wants to claim points for experience.
If not, it's not necessary.

If it's positive, they won't ask you to come in person. They would ask you to send your passport by courier. Or have they changed the process nowadays?

I think you can only convert after you have spent at least 6 months in Finland. So you gotta wait for the permanent one anyways......

This is quite strange.

SnazzyBaba:
I have been meaning to drop a line on this issue.
Folks Pls wait until you get your RP in ur hand before doing anything to the money in your account o. The Police officer that came to give talk during our orientation mentioned that they are aware of people putting money in their account for RP purpose alone and returning after the RP has been granted. Even if possible, make sure you get here before returning the money.

I had a experience at the Helsinki Airport, the officer attending to me suddenly flagged me and detained me for about 15minutes when he noticed that this was my first time in Finland. I was asked to fill a form detailing all the questions asked during interview and more. My saving grace was God, my train ticket to my base (which I had booked before leaving Naija), My address in my base, they even asked me how much i had on me and asked me for evidence to back my claims.

The financial situation in Nigeria has made them to be more focused Nigerians

so pls guys be very careful

I guess it is Self explanatory; if you write any CDR based on work experience, you must provide proof... that's all.

Hence avoid writing CDR based on work experience cos you'll have to submit proof of employment which must be a minimum of 12months.
Must be a minimum of 12months?

What if the career episode is based on an internship that lasted 6months?

It's a different scenario if you wanna claim points for experience. Otherwise I don't think it has to be 12 months.

Thanks everyone. It wasn't easy. I was used as a bad example for months. Even my family members started doubting me and it hurt when they started asking me to confess if I really submitted an original insurance cert. It was like me against the world. I mark down the name and face of that yeye white guy for Finnish Embassy and vow say I go everly treat him Bleep up if our paths ever cross. Now, I don free the matter sha.

I remember two options wey people give me. Re-apply immediately and hope for the best or just free the matter and sue Mutual Benefits. It was a tight corner for me. I sold a lot of things to raise another 140k for flight, another RP fee, Aiico, etc. despite having money sitting in my account, money wey I no fit touch. As them reject me the second time, I just mellow.

In hindsight, e go be like say I be one determined weyrey who wasn't discouraged and finally got a better deal, Omo... I don't know how I survived o. It was hell. he next three months, my life was stagant. I no know wetin to do, I just dey spend out of that 6720 euros small small, dey use am forget my sorrows. Thank God for every sha.

Now I go channel my ginger towards enjoying my stay in God's own country! Forward ever. If anyone needs to talk to me, just mention me. I go holla and contribute in any way wey I fit.

PS: Baba Kezman, I apologize for forgetting your username in my last post. you were really helpful. I go relate with you and other people wey get interest when I don reach Hermereeekkkaaa. Thanks. smiley

Lol @snail.......actually cow meat dey helsinki, cant say about other places though. There is almost everything, but u gotta spend. Some are crazily expensive e.g. yam (over 6 euros for just one tuber)...so na only once in a year i dey chop am....lol

@cmanforall.....noodles dey. they have theirs...indomie dey african market.

You shld bring stuffs like egusi and ogbono too. Smoked fish and dry pepper also important.

Bring stuffs that would help u minimize ur spending in the first few months. Cos then u will still be converting everything u wanna buy to naira in ur mind. And u will almost not wanna buy anything..... smiley

My Oga(s) I hail o, pls what's ur advice for us coming in with regards to fund, should we convert our money to Euro or can we use ATM card in Finland. conversion rate here na die.

Secondly, this one na personal question, I am thinking of buyer 2duvet(like blanket), is that extreme?

what other advice can you give us?

thanks a lot.
Well....i think its better to come in with Euros.

Depending on airline, most times you have two 23kg baggage allowance. Before you know it, you will exceed the limit. So i think one duvet is okay.

My appreciation to God all mighty and to everyone on this thread. God bless you all.
@sir iceberg54, i am going to Aalto, otaniemi campus. I am at the moment searching for alternative budget accomodation while awaiting Hoas and Ayy offer as a progamme i applied for will commence in august. I will be most grateful for any advice or assistance from you sir.
Boss, you wont get anything cheaper than what Ayy or Hoas will offer. Moreover, all apartments in Otaniemi belong to either hoas or Ayy.

AYY has a few apartments below 200 and a little bit above. Hopefully you get one of those. DO you have your RP already? You can send them an email reiterating when you will arrive so they can make you an offer soon. For AYY, you can quietly ask that you want something around 200 euros considering your budget. I know you can specify range for HOAS as well.

Best way to save money is to secure any of these offers and then when you arrive, you can get someone to share with to save cost, that is if you're lucky enough not to share apartment with guys who would report you. smiley

All the best sir!

Hi All, I am yet to receive a decision from migri after applying on the 6th of June and submitting supplementary documents on the 27th June. This is because, the Finnish embassy in Abuja mistakenly routed my application to migri manually. So my decision is ready , but I can't see it online. Migri has said, that my decision will be sent to the Finnish embassy in Abuja. The Finnish embassy in Abuja, after having contacted them, are yet to receive my decision. This is very very frustrating. cry cry I therefore advise that, for those that are yet to be interviewed, pls, make sure it is routed through the e service online platform from the embassy in Abuja. I have been sending several emails and making several phone calls to no avail. Has any body here ever applied through manual means?? Pls how did you get your decision? Did you have to travel again to Abuja? Or was it sent via attachments to your email?
Lol..Manual application can be very frustrating.

Fortunately you don't need answers to these questions anymore.

Congrats! Which school are you coming to?

Boss Ice, thanks for the response. I want to wait for a decision to be made on my application before applying for MOAS accommodation. I am alerting the house in case I get a late decision and unable to get a room.

Thanks once again.
But you can apply regardless. You would indicate when you want to move in, and there is no financial implication. Waiting till after you get Rp might be too late and you might not get a place. And not securing a student apartment would be a disaster. Private apartments are expensive. So you're advised to apply now.
