The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday arraigned one Christian Efe Oyovweyho, alias Femi Adesina before Justice Z.B Abubakar of the Federal High Court Kano on a two count charge of Obtaining by False Pretence.



The defendant had allegedly impersonated the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammad Buhari, Femi Adesina and attempted to obtain the sum of N300,000 from a professor of Economics at Bayero University Kano, Dalhatu Mohammed Galadanci.


According to the complainant,
sometime in July 2016, the defendant sent him a text message claiming to be Femi Adesina, S.A to the president on Media and Publicity.

The defendant fraudulently claimed to be speaking on behalf of the president and that the name of the professor has been forwarded for appointment in the presidency.

The complainant further stated that the defendant claimed to be searching for a better office for him.

Subsequently, the defendant asked the professor to make payment of the sum to facilitate his appointment to Nigeria Port Authority or Nigerian Railway Cooperation and Rural Electrification. At that point, the professor got suspicious and reported the matter to the commission.


One of the charges read that “You Christian Efe Oyovweyho alias Femi Adesina and another (now at large) on or about 16th day of July, 2016 at Kano, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court Kano with intent to defraud attempted to obtain the sum of N300,000 from Professor Dalhatu Mohammed Galadanci through your Zenith Bank Account with Account number: 2173729401, under the false pretence that the money was meant for a juicy appointment in Abuja , which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offense contrary to section 8 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1 (3) of the same Act.”

After listening to the charge, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Prosecution counsel Musa Isah requested a date for trial in view of the plea of defendant.

Counsel representing the defendant, T.M Oyedema however brought a motion for bail, praying the court to admit his client to bail pending the hearing and determination of the case.


Justice Zainab granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000‎, with two sureties.

One of the sureties must be a State or Federal government official not below grade level 8.

The other surety must be a respected member of the society with a landed property within the jurisdiction.

Also certificate of Occupancy in respect of the landed property shall be deposited with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

The case has been adjourned to 11th April, 2017 for commencement of trial while the defendant remains in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail terms.

France , a former friend of Biafra in the 1967 secession bid, has ruled out any support for the secession of any part of the country, particularly Biafra.France’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gauer, told The Guardian, that his country would not in anyway work with any group agitating for the dismemberment of the nation.

He said France was working with Nigeria and supporting it as a country.
Speaking against the backdrop of France’s previous support for Biafra during Nigeria’s civil war, Gauer pointed out that Nigeria has evolved since the civil war.
France has been cooperating with the country to overcome its challenges, especially the fight against insurgency.
However, Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Uchenna Madu told The Guardian that the struggle for Biafra “is real and cannot be stopped by any man created by God”

He added: “We in MASSOB do not believe what he said because that does not represent the position of France. France is a friend of Biafra and even during the Nigeria/Biafra war, they assisted us so much.
“In this current agitation for Biafra, France has sympathy for us. We advise our people to disregard what he said. We think that the Nigerian media misinterpreted what the French envoy said.
But the French envoy further pointed out that there is no future for Biafra and urged proponents of secession or Biafra to continue to be part of the country.
“We are working with Nigeria and we are supporting it as the only country. This is absolutely clear and I don’t think there is any kind of future for Biafra. They are part of Nigeria and Nigeria has to remain as the only country,” he said.
He disclosed that France is working with the country in its fight against insurgency, saying the fight against Boko Haram has brought the two countries together, more than before.

The Ambassador explained how France helped the former Goodluck Jonathan government to organise a regional meeting with neighbouring Francophone countries, Chad Cameroon and Republic of Benin, in Paris, in 2014, following which the Multinational Joint Task Force, MJTF was established to fight Boko Haram.
“Apart from encouraging neighbouring African countries to cooperate with Nigeria we have also developed a strong bilateral relationship with the Nigerian Armed forces.
In May 2015, the Defence Ministers of Nigeria and France signed a cooperation agreement between the two armed forces, which we did not have before.
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, recently warned those agitating for an independent state to “forget it.”
The groups are Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) .
Though they have the same aim, they are rival groups; and have consistently clashed with themselves and security agents.
Speaking in Abuja after receiving an award conferred on him by a coalition of over 80 civil society organisations (CSOs), Buratai said the army would not condone any act that could lead to the disintegration of the country.
“Those individuals and groups that are bent on destablising our country I think they have to wait till may be the next three or four millennium for them to do that. That is, may be the next generation of officers and men will allow them at all,” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially resume duty as the President of Nigeria after a 55-day-absent from office which has got Nigerians talking. The President in a letter addressed to the Senate revealed that he has resume his functions as the President of Nation.

Femi Adesina the President personal adviser, on media and publicity made the news known to the public on Monday.
Adesina also confirmed that the President's letter to the Senate is in accordance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
According to the Presidential aide, the letters were addressed to the Senate and the House of Representatives.
“I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, March 13, 2017, after my vacation,” Adesina quoted the letter.

A Nicaraguan woman has died today after she was stripped naked and thrown into a burning fire in order to scare away "demons" from her body, according to the Nicaraguan authorities the woman was burnt beyond recognition, as evangelical Pastor Juan Gregorio Rocha Romero and four other people had been arrested.

The arrested Pastor Juan Gregorio has refused to accept that he committed any offense, " the woman fell into the fire without anyone pushing her and a demon exited her body," he told La Prensa newspaper.


Reynaldo Peralta Rodriguez, husband of the victim said that his wife the mother of his two children was taken into a church by members who believed that she was possessed after she(the victim)
allegedly tried to attack people with a machete.

“It’s unforgivable what they did to us. They killed my wife, the mother of my two little ones,” he said. “Now what am I going to tell them?”

The victim, her husband, and two children lived in the impecunious mining township of Rosita, about 300 miles (480 kilometers) northeast of Managua prior to her death.
The Assemblies of God, the church to which Rocha reportedly belonged, issued a statement denying that Rocha Romero was one of its leaders.

Super Eagles striker Victor Moses has extend his contract at English premier league powerhouse Chelsea, the Nigerian international has impressed greatly this season under the tutelage of Italian maestro, Antonio Conte.

Upon signing the two years extension, Moses, 26, is set to remain at Stamford bridge till the summer of 2021. The Nigerian primarily plays as a forward, but has been deployed as a right wingback this season by Antonio Conte.

Popular music act Banky W, has revealed how him and his dog escaped the fire outbreak that strucked his lekki mansion earlier today. The RnB singer told his Instagram followers that he formed "James Bond" by climbing down from the balcony of the top floor of his lekki mansion.

Banky was happy that the fire was discovered early lest it wouldn't have been easy to put off, he also thanked his workers and neighbors for the part they played in putting off the fire.

The two women arrested for the killing of Kim Jong-Nam the brother of South Korean leader Kim Jong-Un could face death sentences if they are tried and found guilty.
The two women were reported to have sprayed a deadly chemical on the face of the diseased at a Malaysian airport.

The women revealed that they thought they were playing a TV prank.

According to the Attorney General, the two women are going to be charged under the section 302 of the penal code. Which will result in a "mandatory" death sentence if they are found guilty.

The two women, Doan Thi Houng and Siti Aisyah who are from Vietnam and Indonesia respectively, are among the ten suspect identified by Malaysia to have played a roll in the killing.

The other suspects include a senior official at the North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur and a staff member of the state airline. South Korea believes at least four suspects are North Korean spies.

Pop Queen, Beyonce, has pulled out of the coachella 2017, after weeks of speculations.
The pregnant Beyonce will not be performing at this years edition of the show, as she is currently pregnant with twins babies.

The news was announced on Thursday via the official annual music festival's social media pages.

Beyonce pulled out of the festival "Following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months, Beyoncé has made the decision to forgo performing at the 2017 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival," read a message posted on Coachella's Facebook page.
