Danielnino00: It will still require money.. And I'm sure u aren't advocating that system for an u-21 team alone.. It should spread to the u-17, u-19 and the women team.. For now, we may not need that for the U17 & U19. Remember the aim is to assess young professionals who are looking ready to break into the Super Eagles. If the NFF want I can voluntarily draft out a workable model for this U21 age grade set up. |

Danielnino00: This would mean more expenditure for the NFF. No Africa team currently has an active age grade team.. I mean age grade teams that are always available not just for competitive games... The NFF will have to b organizing friendlies with non African teams.. I don't think the NFF is financially stable enough yet to reach that level Teams in North Africa have this kind of arrangement. They must not play against other U21 teams from other countries they can play against the senior teams of less fancied African countries or top NPFL sides. As for finance, they can use the funds set aside for the U23 team to run it. After all the same players who are U21 in 2018 will be U23 in 2020. So they can make it preparatory games for the U23 team and also seize the opportunity to pluck some ripe fruits from amongst them to join the Super Eagles. |

charlesemeka85: the game plan is to cap tie them and watch their development. they may turn out to be super stars in the future which will be to our gain. don't paint it as if someone is advocating for their immediate inclusion in the team just to dislodge the the present and more experienced heads in the team This mass caping of players, I am sure u know will come at a price? Because for u to accommodate them for this capping process some other players in the team need to give way from the match day squad. What if in the game u plan to cap lets say Josh Maja, u may have dropped a second choice striker for the match day squad just to accommodate Josh. And then u find ur team trailing. U know quite well that u cannot really vouch that Josh can make the difference, u only added him to the match day squad to cap him. The coach may have shot himself on the foot there. This players selection thing is not as easy u think it is o |

AIG07: Is it the same Iwobi some people have written off before the start of the season Or another one?
They told us how he will struggle to get playing time under Emery-the new Manger. Oga ooo.
Iwobi is far ahead of all his SEs compatriots within the same age bracket. But has not been receiving fair reviews from the media, fans and the SEs gaffer. Wasn't happy when he only managed 80mins of action through out the world cup and players like Kelechi and Ighalo who have been below par for the past 1year clocked more game time on the pitch.
Dude has weathered so many tough things during his hard times and now he is been refined to the desired product we've all been longing for.
#AlexIwobiontherise In addition, they said he is useless from the wings. And yet most of his assists this season have come from the wings. |

Look Chris... I know all about the strengths and weaknesses of all major African sides and even the ones who are giant killers like Capeverde. The problem you have is that you are too obsessed with anything Ivorian and Senegalese that you look down on your own.
So who is Doukoure, Angban and Die compared to Etebo? An Etebo that shone like a million stars at Russia 2018?!! Funny.
Who is Ahoulou and Sangare to Ndidi and Onazi? It is only Seri and Kessie that gets a mention as real Ivorian midfiled Lords there abeg compared to the likes of Ndidi, Onazi and Etebo.
Even Joel Obi plays in Serie A. Which Ivorian midfielder in Ligue 1 is his mate? I could go on but you clearly look down on what is present in the Super Eagles. It is just too obvious. No mind Chris, I just dey look am since when him just dey hype that Ivorian team. See names him dey call sef. |

charlesemeka85: and won't it make more sense if the quality personnel needed for the replacement of the present players in the future are incorporated into the team by having them train together with their supposed predecessors and understudy them as well?
england coach southgate just called young dortmund's winger sancho and 19 year old derby county midfielder who is on loan from chelsea to the englnd squad, can you tell me the motive behind their call ups? Sebi when they called Kelechi Nwakali, some people here , may be u were one of them too, were tearing their shirts on top the boy matter. At Least he has trained with the team just as you have opined above. The coaches have seen him more closely and passed their judgment. So little by little we assess others too. I perfectly understand the transition u are trying to imply. But this must be done with care so as not to upset the balance in the team. Like Mikel is winding down and Iwobi looks good to step in. I hope we can get Eberechi Eze too. Ogu and Joel may also likely not make Qatar 2020, so by then we would have obviously replaced them. |

charlesemeka85: The coach of the national team of Germany Joachim Loew is presently not thinking of calling up German-Nigerian defender Kevin Akpoguma despite watching the Hoffenheim defender at close quarters in the UEFA Champions League tie against Manchester City, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.
Loew watched the former Germany U20 captain in their 1-2 loss against Manchester City and didn’t seem convinced by his quality, hence snubbed him in his list of players for their upcoming engagement against Netherlands and France.
Akpoguma was among the young defenders reportedly viewed as a potential option in defence but the 23 year old who snubbed approach from Nigeria is aware that it will take a while before he is considered by the coach of the senior national team.
Viewed as an excellent match for the Super Eagles of Nigeria by coach Gernot Rohr, the defender is however not in anyway in a rush to commit his international future to Nigeria as he is still hopeful of playing for Germany in the future. The last paragraph sums it up. Please let's move on. |

TheSuperNerd: I gave Billing his first mention on this thread and I believe he will bring more quality to our midfield BUT I repeat... BILLING SHOULD NOT BE A TOP PRIORITY in our recruitment drive. He is NOT an AM/CAM. He is a CDM. We have lots of CDMs... Getting Billing will just be adding another banana to the bunch we have.
We need to be strategic in our recruitment drive and focus FIRST on landing players that address our weaknesses part of which is in the CAM role.
We need an Ebere Eze and Ovie Ejaria more than we need a Phillip Billing. That is the truth. This should be our scale of preference.
I say yes to Billing but I say a first and bigger yes to Ebere and Oviemuno. We need to tackle our weaknesses first before reinforcing more of our strengths. Finito. Son, for this wonderful, analytical and strategic comment. You deserve a statue. Let me go tell Rochas. |

Danielnino00: You are right sir.. What I meant was that we would still be better off today if we hadn't discovered oil.. Aside agriculture, our leaders would have put more effort in other sectors... That would have been a huge boost for us.. The discovery of oil was a blessing and at the same time a curse... Maybe or Maybe not. When Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh was Finance Minister in the first republic he was living a luxurious life off the proceeds of our Agricultural sector. Corruption still would have creped in. No major economy of the world has Agriculture as its main stay. Not even when we have a population as huge as 180-200Million with arable land being lost to both human activities, desertification and erosion on daily basis. I agree with u that other sectors would have been developed. But what other sectors? Mining? Just like Oil too. Manufacturing? We still would have had power problems although raw materials would have been more available due to a more buoyant Agricultural sector. Technology? Yes. Would have really boosted our economy. My brother make we leave economics small talk football. Nigeria's problems are deep rooted. |

Danielnino00: Nigeria might be a lot better off today if we never discovered oil.. We relied on agriculture in the past and our economy wasn't that bad... oil made our leaders lazy and greedy.. Oil made them neglect other sectors of the economy... There are many country out there who depend on agriculture and are doing quite well... I was expecting this argument to come up. Yes Agriculture supported our economy way back in the 50s and 60s. But that was just adequate for that time and generation. Have you checked what our GDP was then? Nigeria was largely rural as at then. Dominated by peasants that cultivated enough to feed their families without depending on salaries from Government work. Dependence on Agriculture would not have been sustained. The South Eastern region was leading in the area of Oil Palm production followed by the Midwest. Where are the arable forests today that would have carried the Oil Palm plantation that will both feed the nation and form the GDP for the economy. Same goes for the Cocoa from the Western Region. Do you think the yams from the middle belt would be enough to feed a population of 200Million people today and still form s large part of our GDP? What is the economic value of Cotton and groundnuts currently? We are talking about agricultural revolution, agricultural revolution. No matter how the current governments try it would be difficult to make Agriculture the main stay of our economy. Some other countries are investing in technology, and human intelligence. Look at Japan and China. That is the way to go in the 21st century. Investing in Agriculture is good for food security but not as a main stay of the economy. The World is moving. |

tbaba1234: The north african countries are in a different situation from others. They do not have their national reserves stuck in France or pay colonial taxes. France only allows them to withdraw a certain percentage from their national reserves per year.
According to one report, African countries pay as much as 440 billion euros to France as taxes every year.
These countries had to pay for the infrastructure built by the colonial masters when they got their independence.
France has the exclusive right to provide military equipment and train their officers.
The sheer control over these countries keeps them poor. Despite all these do you know that mineral rich Anglophone nations like Sierra Leone and Liberia are ranked lower than the poorest Francophone nations in terms of per capita income? France has a great influence on their economies. Yes they pay taxes to cover for the infrastructures provided by their colonial masters but this French interest in their economy makes them better of than some Anglophone countries that are in total control of theirs. I agree with the military support and training but I even see it as being better than leaving it in the hands of corrupt dictators. |

ChrisKels: Shebi u c how aggressive the Ivorians are with recruitment that has made them have a mammoth of pool to select from. Why cant we do that to also have a hat plethora of good players? Just look at Ivory coast and the move they just made for Tie, the Chelsea young goalkeeping sensation. Why cant we do such with highly rated Gavin Bazunnu before Ireland ties him down? Man, Rohr is clueless and lacks vision See, if we were in the same situation as Ivory Coast, we would have disbanded our team sacked our coach and shopped for new players. Their golden generation of players is gone. Their football is on the downward trend and so they needed this massive influx. But we have a team that dominated its WCQ group and featured at the WC. We cannot pull this team down. All we need do is to build on it. If you look at this team from when Rohr played his first game to date will you say there have not been so many inclusions? If it because of Eze, we can still get him after he plays for the England U20. |

tbaba1234: The poorest countries in Africa are Francophone countries. France still controls every aspect of their econonies. They still pay colonial taxes to France till today. But there is also a lot of French interest and investments in their economies. There are so many French nationals who have businesses in these countries especially those along the Coast of West Africa: Senegal, CIV, Togo, Benin. Guinea severed a lot of ties with France very early, gaining independence in 1958, two years before their Francophone neighbors. Reason why Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali are that poor is because of firstly lack of direct access to the sea and secondly lack of Mineral resources and thirdly shortage of Arable land for Agriculture. Remember also that Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia are also Francophone and among the leading economies of the continent. Sierra Leone and Liberia despite the huge presence of Diamond deposits are amongst the poorest in the World. Gambia thrives on tourism and Groundnut production and their barely 1million population has made life easier for them. Access to the sea has also boosted their international trade. Even though they are still among the poorest. |
