Kog45: I get your point but it w be unfair to compare the present players with Atlanta 96 team.
In Atlanta 96 team we have Uche Okechuckwu, Daniel Amokachie, Emmanuel Amuneke, Austin Okocha,Sunday Olishe,Victor Ikpeba who are members of US 94 team with only Ikpeba not regular and Tijani Babangida was on standby.
These are already established Super Eagles material playing in under aged tournament and too early to compare the team.
On over hype,it depends on individual, have never for once hype this team but not yet time to compare, let's see what happens in the WC,with quarter final berth then w compared. We are Nigeria. A great footballing nation. We know where we are coming from and we know where we hope to be. The equivalents of Okechukwu, Amokachi, Amuneke and co you mentioned are Mikel , Echiejile, Onazi, Omeruo who were in the 2014 WC So we have a basis for comparison. One major reason I can rate this team is the compactness and team spirit. I hope that helps them go far. |

Kog45: Haba Micho u and Rohr on tactics, well apart from being sentimental sometimes on players selection,Siasia is good tactically(2005 semi final against Holland)tells me the guy is good, also 2008 Olympics.
Truly Argentina match w be a true test for Rohr tactically even Algeria match but nevertheless is still getting it right but South Africa match still put a question match on his tactical prowess cos with the absence of few key players the team crumbled. I am sure it is an error. The 2005 Holland games was in the quarter finals. We beat Morocco 3-0 in the semis. |

Kog45: Pls check Atlanta 96 players out.
Super Eagles players in the team
1.Uche Okechuckwu.
2.Daniel Amokachie.
3.Emmanuel Amuneke.
4.Victor Ikpeba
5.Sunday Olishe,
6.Austin Okocha
7.Tijani Babangida.
8.Taribo West.
9.Kanu Nwankwo
The fringe Super Eagles players in the team
10.Wilson Oruma
11.Celestine Babayaro
12.Mobi Oparaku
13.Garba Lawal
15.Karibe Ojigwe
Well established local players in the team
16.Dosu Joseph
17.Abiodun Obafemi
18.Teslim Fatusi
19.Emmanuel Babayaro
20.Abiodun Baruwa
21.Kingsley Obiekwu
So how do you expect present players who are 23 or less to make this team full of already established Super Eagles players, honestly if it's today a lot w called this team a cheat, surprisedly Uche Okechuckwu, Daniel Amokachie, Emmanuel Amuneke are the only over aged in the team.
Honestly anytime i look at this team am always give respect to Siasia's feat at 2008 and 2016 Olympics, with bunch of average players compared to Atlanta 96 which was full of Super Eagles players. What we have above is close to what we have presently in terms of age. As over 70% of the current crop are 23 or less. And they are also established super Eagles players. Yet none would have made that 96 team starting line up. Maybe 1 or 2 would make the squad at most. Good you made reference to Siasia's 2008 Olympics team. Trace that team back to his 2005 U20 team which was the bedrock of the 2008 Olympics team. That 2005 U20 also had class and quality. I remember repeatedly mentioning that the Siasia's 2005 Flying Eagles were better than the Manu's 2015 Flying Eagles. I got attacked for it but I still maintain my view on that. We have to accept the fact. we hype our current team too much. This team has achieved a lot in this qualifiers no doubt but they still have a long way to go. |

tbaba1234: Just watched Nigeria Brazil Atlanta 96... We used to play with so much swagger.. We dominated Brazil in that second half... That standard has seriously dropped. The individual abilities of those players were top notch. That was even an Olympics team and not the main super eagles. I have always said it that I have seen better youth players than what we have today. We just hype most of our young players of today. most of them are not up to the marks. None of the current Nigerian players who are 23 or less would have made that team's starting line up. Now you'll understand why I am not much excited about all those names people are throwing in upandan here. |

Ikeme Efe Ambrose Musa Ighalo Simon Moses Shehu Abdullahi Sylvester IGBOUN Onazi Akas Onobi Austin Oboroakpo You now see why Oliseh failed? Meanwhile players like Leone Balogun, Mikel Obi and Victor Moses were available for selection. That was my major headache with Oliseh and Keshi. For one flimsy reason they will be having issues with big players and then dropping them for some home based players probably just to spite the big players. Go and look at the list with which we played Tanzania in Dar es Salam enroute qualification for the 2017 AFCON and you will see why we did not make the AFCON. Kog45: Truly Rohr decides but do we really need Nwakili in DM with options we have now,as CM i can't really say cos i w never used Norway league to rate him,the league is to develop players for big league in Europe.
Honestly with due respect to Rohr we need to evaluate and looks at his list critically. In icon4s word we need players that we add something unique to the team.
Am still skeptical about Nwakili invitation, unless he was discovered by Rohr himself, just hoping he prove me wrong and Jobie just raised a very vital observation regarding our players performance in Europe,we need quality players in the team, unless
Till today we have not seen what Ogu,Agbo,Nwakaeme can offer the team despite making the squad, still suspicious of Agu,also Awaziem yet to show us is true colour in the team,Musa still making the team despite having difficult time with his club,
Hope Algeria and Argentina match we have a positive impact towards our WC preparation, the team needs to take shape,WC is not far. Sincerely, I cannot justify Chidi Nwakali's invitation. But I just hope Rohr knows why he has been invited. |

Nigeria appears to have much more youth than experience. We struggle when Mikel is missing. True bro. There is something Mikel brings to that team that our previous captains/team leaders had not brought in the last 10years. It appears as if those young players ride on the back of Mikel. They play better with Mikel in the team. One of my ideologies is to behead every tribalist and corrupt individual in the presence of their family....I hate the way Nigerians behave, they are too weak and ignorant and thats why the country is a sshit hole. Nigeria need a total bloodshed to instill law, order and discipline in them. Then that your ideology, I am sorry to say, is a devilish one. That is not what my Christian faith has taught me. tbaba1234: Yes but i think the 2013 will have a larger number of players in the national team when it is all said and done.
1993, we had Kanu, Babayaro and Mobi Oparaku (till he got injured) were regulars. Oruma and Ojigwe was on and off.
2013 Kelechi, Ndidi are the regulars. But the pool of on and off appears to be bigger. From the 1993 class also was Emma Babayaro, one of the back up Super Eagles goalies then. By 1997, which is equivalent to 2017 for the 2013 boys, players Like Celestine Babayaro, Mubi Oparaku and Nwankwo Kanu had cemented spots in the Super Eagles. Wilson Oruma and Karibe Ojigwe had to deputise for Okocha and Oliseh, who were kings of Nigerian football then. Considering how stars studded the Super Eagles was then but those boys together with others that joined from the Olympics team were able to swiftly effect a transition. Iheanacho has lost his place in the starting 11,. Ndidi himself (who was not even part of the WC winning side) could not have made the Super Eagles team that had Oliseh as the DM. |

Kog45: It seems you are not comfortable with Nwakili invitation,I understand your position on his invitation.
I want you to know something about players invitations to Nigeria national team,i believe Icon4s, enomakos,goldfish80 w understand it better.
A lot of things comes in and we behind the scene w never understand than to keep on wondering on what criteria
My man did you know some invitations are not based on merits, these invitations normally come from agents who want to see their players in the national team to boost their market, some invitations come from NFF telling coach look you just have to invite this player, serious pressure, telling the coach the federal characters is their reason.
Did u know most of these foreign coaches have agents that brokered the deal for them to be appointed and these agents have players they are managing,it is a must for such coach to accept his agent players but there are unwritten rules if he make it in the camp fine, did you see Aaron Samuel getting invitation again coz he didn't meet up.
The home bred national team coaches w make recommendations of their choice players either good or bad,the foreign coach w accept coz he is new in the system.
I remember when my university coach was appointed as super eagles assistant and they requested for his inputs on players invitation,he made sure 5 of the university players got called up letter though they are playing in the local league, out of these five, two made it and one later established himself in the eagles to the extent of playing in EPL.
Remember after South Africa match that we lost two goals to nil, there are allegations that some players are getting invitation through agents which Rohr denied, this led to technical committee to mandate that they must see the list first before Rohr made it public.
On Nwakili i can tell anybody that he can get the invitation in many ways, one through agent,it's simple coach I have player who can do it better than Agu or Ogu,OK let me see him,his invitation can come through NFF technical committee and also through Rohr scouts, nobody can say but to based his invitation on merits is dicey.
I just see Nwakili in the mould of Shehu and Ekong, if you check these two players properly, national team shape up their careers coz on club level they don't deserve to be in the team but they are able to prove themselves and they are part of the team XI.
Let see what Nwakili has to offer before we judge him coz personally am not yet convince that he merits the invitation but such player always seize the opportunity and established himself to prove doubting minds wrong. You understand a lot bro. |

tbaba1234: 2013 under 17 is on track to being one of the most successful. Most successful as how? How many of them have really broken into the team 2 years after their U20 outings? Just Iheanacho and Ndidi(who did not even feature at the CAFU17 and U17 WC). They are still mostly invitees and being used as training materials. At this stage of their careers the 1993 boys were already bossing things in the Super Eagles. I hope you also know that Kenneth Omeruo, Ogenyi Onazi, Olanrewaju Kayode, and Ramon Azeez were part of the 2009 Class of Eaglets. Stanley Okoro another member of that team has also played for the Super Eagles. Abdul Forgiveness Ajagun is another. |

tbaba1234: I am not sure of the readiness of Nwakali or the coaches intentions with him.
Ebuehi, brian idowu and Aina play LB comfortably. So i do not think that is the intention with Nwakali.
Mikel is not a DM for Nigeria. Agu has been heavily criticised. Ogu, we have not seen much of.. so we really have only Onazi and Ndidi, that are tried and trusted. The coach needs at least two other trusted CM/DM.
Nwakali is a utility player like Shehu so he might help plug holes.
The coach has called him, let us see what he offers. Ogu featured a lot under Keshi. One of such games was the Nelson Mandela challenge. The one we one 2-0. He had a pretty descent game. |

See this: Balogun can play both CB or RB, Aina, Ebuehi both LB or RB. Shehu both RB or DM, Iwobi can play RWF, LWF or AM, Mikel can play AM, DM or even CB(he plays that for Tiajin Teda) The two Moses, Musa and Onyekuru can play both RWF or LWF. We are talking about utility players that can be shifted anywhere and you are talking of one way players. Do you think we will always have the option of playing like for like subs?
What if Mikel gets a red when we have a game and you have Etebo on the wings on field, we are one man down and the coach wants to reinforce with a defender without touching the MF, will Etebo not be drafted there?
Etebo is even a bench warmer because in such a scenario, the player who would be on field to replace Mikel will most likely be Iwobi.
If Mikel is first choice AM and Iwobi is technically second choice, what do we need Muazzam for? And is Muazzam the best we can get if so? Please go to be biggest hotel in Abuja and take lunch on me. You just smashed it. |

I think I've trashed Etebo case with Sir Joebie. He's best played as B2B a Midfielder or a Wing-Forward as evident in the Olympic. We have 2 great AMs in Mikel and Iwobi. Etebo and Iheanacho are alternates who can play the AM role in addition to their primary roles. Muazam is not up against Iheanacho and Etebo mind you. He is against Mikel and Maybe Iwobi. What can Muazam offer that would be better than what Iwobi and Mikel can offer? If Mikel for any reason cannot make the trip then watch Rohr invite Muazam. |

You claimed we ain't lacking in the Department, named few Players that could play the Position with lesser competency, thus how you concluded that we ain't lacking in the Department is baffling!
When was the last Time Iheanacho played as an AM, Etebo?!, even Mikel?! at Club Level though. Talent-wise we trust they can do it, but on professional level not competently except maybe Mikel.
Whereas Muazam plied his Trade in the Position while in Nigeria and continuing from where he stopped with Austrian Wien. Muazam? You cannot put him on the same level as Etebo and Iheanacho in that position Naaa. When it comes to the national team a lot of things come to play. Eg Mikel did not need to be an AM in his club to be our first choice AM. |

Joebie: Yes I got your point. only two AM's Mikel, and Iwobi hasn't played as an AM under Rohr. Very good point. However, I think we have better options for AM that were not even called up. Iwobi played AM against Senegal. We are not lacking in that department as apart from Mikel and Iwobi, Etebo and Iheanacho can play that position although to a lesser competency level than Mikel and Iwobi. |

safarigirl: no, no I am not My Dear, We are all sentimental here. All of us. 100% Just that our sentiments defer. For eg my sentiment is for us to be consistent especially at the back and also to field experienced players in the midfield and defense. My sentiment is also to have young Enterprising attackers. That is the sentiment I share. Another word for sentiment is opinion or school of thought. All of us consciously or unconsciously have favorite players in the team. Eg Mikel, Balogun, Shehu and Iwobi are my favorite players. But that doesn't mean I will not criticise them when I need to. And that is the difference. Where it has gone bad is where peeps turn to personal attorneys to their favorite players. And people calling the coach and NFF all sorts of names when their favorite players are omitted. I expected Kayode to be called up but he was not. Do I have to call Rohr names because of that? |
