Mujtahida: The point you made about Yakubu is why I've emphasised that club football is not the same as national team football. The same game but the dynamics are sometimes different. Before Aiyegbeni there was Jonathan Akpoborie who was scoring goals in the Bundesliga yet whenever he was playing for the Super Eagles, he was either him out running the ball or the ball out running him. It was frustrating to watch him. First off, Yakubu Aiyegbeni was a prolific striker for Nigeria even emerging 3rd all time highest. He scored very important goals in our different WC qualifier campaigns. Please don't use that miss at the 2010 WC alone to judge him. Then, I have always said it that club football is different from national team football. There are some players that look so electrifying at their clubs but when they get to the super eagles they fail to even kick start. And some pose average performances at their clubs but become super performers at the national team. That's why we must be very careful with some names we are throwing in here. They may not be national team materials. Good that Rohr recognizes this and has been inviting new players cautiously. |

SerVik: All what you' ve wrote is prove that top prospects can still play in the less fancied backwater leagues. So setting these lofty standards of top 5 leagues being the sole search radius for national team invites might in the long run prove to be detrimental to our football development. Correct. |

Oasis007: On a more serious Note, I think Forgiveness is really crossing the Line with his Allegations and Submissions. He's not the only Yoruba Man commenting or visiting the Thread on daily Basis.
I would advise him to stop referencing to certain Section of the Country getting more Recognitions for the National Teams Call ups, coz we actually do not need it. This kinda Reasoning is very absurd and he's given some to tag him a Bigot.
Its very unfortunate matured Men are engaging him in this kinda Discourse. It's better Forgiveness is ignored than engaging him on tribal Issue. We are all Nigerians, thus we should be less-concerned with who is repping us in the National Teams.
It actually makes no sense asking for equal Representation in the National Teams, coz its simply translating to DISUNITY in the Country. President, SGF, COS, majority of the Service Chiefs are from a Section of the Country, does that mean there are no better Heads than them?!
I advise Forgiveness once Again to please stop causing DISCORD from the tribal Point of View. I'm ain't saying he's a Bigot, rather advising him to quit toeing the Path. I expect the Thread to be discussing and analyzing our Chances with the List, instead of this incessant Discourse. Good morning Sir. |

safarigirl: your question is hypothetical. You are not basing it on current events
If it were on current events, I doubt we would still need Alampasu to play for us even if he becomes the first choice goalie of a third division Portuguese team. W have an 18-year old who plays for a Spanish first division team, so why will we drag Alampasu with Togo who obviously need him more?
I repeat, we no dey find goalie and even if we are, no be Alampasu. Somebody fit give you karate kick for on top this comment o. |

Poshriel: My recent research shows that government workers are not paid the Same across board irrespective of equivalence in grade, discipline, and certification.
Take for instance some agencies ,parastatal, or ministries would place a fresh graduate on level 7 step 11 while others will place fresh graduates on level 8 step 11 still pay will/will not be same.
I also found out that there are various salary paying bodies of the federal government. To mention but a few are CONTISS CONPASS CONTENDISS ETC
All these findings were as a result of me trying to find out how much a graduate who is employed in a federal school of medical lab technology grade level 7 step 11 be paid under the CONTEDISS salary structure..
Are there allowances , and other benefits??
Please where are our government workers. Answers are needed urgently to help someone make a life time decision.. Thanks in anticipation This your research is a wide one o. By government workers do you mean including: Military, paramilitary, civil service, Parastatals/agencies etc? Or restricted to civil service. |

Kog45: My man before i answer your question you said Kanu was a regular and i said No.
Now to your question, in the UEFA champions league final against AC Milan he featured, came in from the bench towards the end of the match,Kluivert scored the winning goal,he too was introduced in latter part of the match.
Am not disputing he wasn't Ajax player but not regular like Finidi George. Kanu was a very young player then. And of course he didn't get as much game time as Finidi but for his age, considering for how long he had been at Ajax and in comparison to the kind of epileptic game time some of our young players are getting now, I will say he had a fair share of games. A player like Iwobi is not a regular with Arsenal but he still commands a fair number of games. Although I expect more from him at his current age and stage in his career. Kanu was even 18+ then. Mind you ajax then was an equivalent of what we have in Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich of today. No Nigerian is even in any of these teams today |

tbaba1234: Just the ability to keep possession was top notch. So much technical ability. And the brazilian side was not average, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Bebeto, Juninho etc..
That side was world class.
The only area we might be better right now is defence organization but there were so good in controlling the ball that it did not matter. Babayaro, no Nigerian left back comes close, not Iroha Not Taiwo, none.. Yeah you are right. But that Brazilian side was really world class o. They presented 70-80% of that team at France 98. Just almost like Nigeria. But while Brazil finished second Nigeria lost scandalously to Denmark in the second round. That Nigeria's France 98 team IMO was the most gifted we have ever presented at any WC. That was Nigeria's biggest chance to have at least reached the Q/finals or semis. |

tbaba1234: Taribo and tijiani were involved in friendlies in the run -up to USA 94. I said it already that they alongside Kanu were called to camp but were dropped from the WC squad. So as at 1996 when they played the Olympics they had no WC experience. That is my point. |

Kog45: No icon4s,Kanu was a complete bench warmer at ajax in 94/95,pls go to archive and check it out.
Finidi George was a super regular at ajax and one of the strongest member not Kanu even at 95/96 Kanu could not tie a regular spot in the team coz Kluivert was ahead, though better than 94/95 season.
I followed Kanu career as an addicted fan right from 1991 when i watched him live playing for Iwanyanwu nationals,he was member of flying eagles to Mauritius 93 and later drafted to U 17 team going to Japan 93 with Emma Babayaro. Did Kanu feature in that UEFA champions league final or not? I also know all of those Kanu's U17-U20 history. |

Kog45: Yes we did not go to Afcon 96 due political issue and ban by CAF for afcon 98 for not defending the cup in 1996.
Tijani Babangida was ahead of Kanu Nwankwo in eagles but came into the scene when we have better player in Finidi George.
It was a great debate Victor Ikpeba was nearly dropped for Tijani at the last minute prior to WC but Westerhoff still took him along.
Did you know Tijani Babangida was a professional player with Roda JC before Finidi and Kanu joined Ajax.
Pls try and ask any season sport personality,i still repeat it Tijani Babangida was at US 94 but not registered.
If i may ask you did you know Osaze was at 2002 WC but not registered I did not dispute the fact that TJ was called up for camping prior to the 94 WC but the fact is he was dropped for the WC list. Does being not registered make him part of the team. On Osaze I know that one. Amodu discovered Osaze. |

Kog45: Kanu made his debut for Eagles against Sweden prior to WC making him super eagles player,Tijani Babangida was a member of US 94 squad as a stand by player though not registered.
Oruma, Babayaro, Taribo,Lawal,Oparaku all made their super eagles debut before Atlanta 96.
My man Atlanta 96 team was a full super eagles team,US 94 regular in that team are Uche Okechuckwu, Daniel Amokachie, Sunday Olishe,Emma Amuneke, Austin Okocha inclusive Victor Ikpeba a member,Tijani Babangida standby player. Nigeria did not take part in the 1996 AFCON. The 1998 WC qualifiers were not on as at summer of 1996. So even if a couple of those players played any game it could have been 1 or 2 friendlies of which I can't even remember any. Players like Oruma, Celestine, Oparaku, Kanu, Ojigwe were even 20 or less. Compare them with players who are 20 or less in the current super Eagles. And on Kanu, as I said before he was part of the '94 squad during camping which was when that Sweden game was played and T.J was never in the 94 squad whether on standby or not. |

komekn: Consider where they were getting thier experiential competencies from
The best leagues and the best clubs in the world.
Compare them to the current set and you find it feels like we have gone backwards. As at 1995, 19years old Kanu had won the UEFA champions league with Ajax. Not as a bencher o. Nor as a player used for only 'drills' but as a starter. But he could not break into the Super Eagles because we had Rashidi Yekini, Victor Ikpeba and Jonathan Akpoborie who were still ahead of him. |

Mujtahida: But by 1996 they were already in the Super Eagles team na even if not the first eleven. Celestine, Taribo, Oruma, Lawal, Babangida, Oparaku, Ojigwe and Kanu only gained promotion to the super Eagles after the Olympics. Prio to Atlanta they were just U23 players that had no Senior team experience. As I said before Kanu only trained with the 94 eagles in camp and was part of the squad that faced England in Wembley. |

Mujtahida: Who then in the current team are the equivalents of Oliseh, Okocha, Celestine Babayaro, Ikpeba, Oruma, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida who were already Super Eagles players. I think that's the point Kog45 is making - We used our national team to play the Olympics. Such has never been done again. From this crop you mentioned now only Oliseh and Okocha featured at the 94 WC. Ikpeba was an unused sub. Kanu only trained with the 94 team in camp for the WC. Cele, Oruma, Taribo, Babangida, Oparaku, Lawal were not in the super eagles then. |
