forgiveness: Is Solanke not good enough?
Is Sheyi Ojo not good enough?
Is Ajagun not good enough?
If Tiago Ilori plays regularly in the Championship then he is better than Omeruo. Except Omeruo breaks into the Chelsea main team. You know I go change mind fast fast. How many of those players you mentioned there are eligible to play for Nigeria against SA? Ajagun good enough for where? Look at the list of Nigerian players who can play the number 10 position you wish Ajagun is good enough to play: Mikel Etebo Iwobi Aluko Even Iheanacho. Now in addition all the five players mentioned above can play at least 2 or 3 more positions. Which one of them is Ajagun better than? And please you have been singing this exact song for years now. Can't you contribute to the growth of Nigerian football without the inclusion of your players? |

Joebie: Well yes for CB. But let's not all forget how they perform in camp before the actual match is what the coaches see. I'm basing my reasoning in the fact that Omeruo has not played for us as a CB in a long time, and Rihr seems to like Awaziem and Ekong partnership A long time. So the Zambia game was a long time ago? |

tbaba1234: Reading comments by south Africans on Akpeyi gives you an idea of how bad/average he is.. He plays in the SA league.
How he is Nigeria's second choice, i do not understand. Who would have been our second choice? This reminds me of Edward Ansah of the then Iwuanyawu FC of Owerri, a Ghanaian. Ansah was so much criticised by the Iwuayanwu fans me inclusive. I cannot forgot how we lost 4-0 to Setif of Algeria in the final of the 1989 African Cup winners cup. We won 1-0 in Lagos Or Enugu (forgotten) but lost the second leg 4-0. In late 1990, Nigeria was to play Ghana in the 1992 AFCON qualifiers. Lo and behold Edward Ansah was their goalie. There were a lot of Ghanaians in my locality in Lagos then. Come and see how we bad mouthed them that Ansah could be their best goalie. Lo and behold we lost 1-0 to Ghana in Accra and drew 0-0 in Lagos. Edward Ansah did not concede against Nigeria. We met again in the semis of the 1992 AFCON and Ghana won 2-1 with Edward Ansah still in goal. So forget those SA fans football is not that way. |

forgiveness: Of course, you know most of them are players of Nigerian origin Abroad.
Oga! Shehu Abdullahi, Ikechuckwu Ezenwa, Victor Osimhen, Ibrahim Alhassan, Noah(an injured player) etc should not have been called ahead of some players in Europe, both for the friendly and AFCON.
Why are the coaching crew doing selective selection?
I thought friendlies are meant to give some boys opportunity to show themselves.
Why bring the ones you can easily dispose and no one go raise eyebrow.
When competition come na dat time go clear. Enough said.
They keep working while you bring bench warmers to gain status, ba.
I am very much aware of the antics behind team selection.
Which players be even my players self? Please name those Nigerians born abroad that are eligible to play against South Africa that are worthy of making the team. I need names and not repeating the same statements over and over. |

Mujtahida: On this Osimhen issue the preferred approach is to just watch for now. A raft of guys playing for championship sides in England na im dem prefer. No wahala with that. But Osimhen has questions on his head. How can those questions be answered if he's not given an opportunity to answer them. You set exam. You lock the key to the exam Hall preventing a student from taking the exam. How then can the student prove himself?
Osimhen =fingers crossed for now. On this Osimhen issue, I think I am slightly with forgiveness on this. I had always opined that let us see him kick the ball as a professional before giving him the call-up. Yes he has started playing for Wolfsburg but sincerely speaking he has not done anything of note to be invited to be Super Eagles. However, I feel Rohr knows Osimhen and the team better than I do so I join you in just watching. |

TheGoodJoe:
It took Iheanacho to score the decider against Crystal Palace before people agreed he deserved a Super Eagles call-up. What you are pointing out even goes on to coaches. Some coaches just watch around and look for starting eleven players in clubs and old list. Then call these players regulars. Very few have the capability of rolling their sleeves and unearthing gems.
Look at Jardim's work at Monaco or Ranieri with Ngolo Kante, Mahrez and Ndidi. Now clubs are rushing for Sidibe, Bernado Silva, Mendy, Lemar and Mbappe. However, these players were there before this season.
Most people analyse football with that same static spectacle. Again you use club examples for national team selection. |

Dedebanky85: Every National team selection has a pattern. Coaches don't just bench existing players merely because a new entrant is in-form. France played a friendly yesterday and Giroud still started ahead of Mbappe and Lacazette. In terms of National teams chemistry is very limited due to shorter training camps. So coaches tend to stick with existing starting 11. That's why I know I can confidently select my 11 for June10. Akpeyi; Shehe RB, Elderson LB, Omeruo and Ekong CB; Ndidi DM, Onazi CM, Etebo AM; Iwobi RW + free roamer, Musa RW+LW, Iheanacho ST.
Free Roamer means, he'd not be pinned to that RW all game. He'd interchange with Etebo and Musa a lot. I'm 98% sure that this is the team. Thumbs up to you. |

He plays in the Portuguese 3rd division abi? He is no buffon if he was a bigger club would have picked him up..give the youth time..ease them in gently. Nacho is there now because ighalo n ideye forgot the route to goal..if they remembered nacho f9r they sedan bench..#fact...likewise at city..there is no way nacho will start ahead of aguero or Gabriel for the lone striker spot...Now did u hear gabriel..yes gabriel is the starting striker for brazil..brazil..he is a class above nacho..nd I am nachos super fan..he will need to go to a club where he is trusted enough to start and get minutes nd build...people seem to forget that even mbappe wasn't a starter at the beginning of last season. Germain was..and if monaco played a lone striker falcao will get the nod..so mbappe as a 3rd choice striker in a 2striker system had hope compared to nacho as 3rd striker in a lone striker system...now back to the omeruo debate..awaziem is 4th choice back..balogun has been keeping omeruo on the bench now he is injured..omeruo gets the nod...TheGoodJoe says he clamours for the recent and best..and picks awaziem as if omeruo has been standing still at his club while awaziem slugged it out at porto b. forgiveness: Of course, there are better players but that is not my point. My point is centered on replacements or backups.
Remember, when Emmanuel Amunike and Daniel Amokachi (cant remember) were tactically removed by the Italians at the 1994 World cup, the team crumbled. When Taiwo and Sanni were removed at Japan/korea world cup the team also crumbled. When mikel got injured before the 2010 world cup the team pafuka. When Onazi was removed at the Brazil 2014 world cup France destroyed the team.
For this reason, I am clamouring for quality replacement or backups for each postions.
if Ekoog wound who go replace am? if Ndid wound who go replace am? if iwobi and Etebor wound at the same time in a competitive position who go replace them?
Abi you never witness where two key players got injured at the same time? You dont need to go far, just recall Japan/Korea and USA 1994. First of all, I want you to name those 'better players' that have not yet been invited and We would gladly recommend them to Rohr and his coaching crew if truly they are better than the player(s) you want them to replace. Concerning the issue of replacement are you telling me that for the current Eagles team we don't have at least 2 or 3 players per position? Victor Moses, Leon Balogun and Mikel Obi who are 3 regulars are out and we are not even crying over it because we have capable replacements. Also that team is so dynamic such that most of those players are capable of playing at least 2 positions. Any of Etebo, Iwobi, Moses, Musa, Success, Simon, Onyekuru can play each other's positions fairly comfortably. Injury to any 2 or 3 and we still have a pool to pick replacements from. Our midfield boast of Mikel, Onazi, Ndidi, Shehu, Agu, Ogu and sometimes Etebo. What of the defense? Even in Balogun's absence we still have 3 good CBs in Ekong, Omeruo and Awaziem. Recall also that Ndidi can also play CB. Echiejile, Shehu, Ebuehi, Madu and the newly invited Yousef are there as wing backs. I am not saying this team is there yet but the fact remains that we are gradually getting there. If there is any player the coaches feel can add quality to the team they will invite. And if your favorite players are not there,of which I know is the main reason for this your clamour for back ups, let them keep working hard they may get their chances one day. |

TheGoodJoe: I have said it repeatedly. When it comes to picking starters, recent performance in camp is key. When it comes to assessing the potential of a player, you can use past games to highlight.
When we talk of Iheanacho's quality, we highlight his past performances. When it comes to selection, his current form is camp is key.
E nugo? Hahaha TheGoodJoe. Even before Roger opened any camp whether France or Abuja I believe he knew at least 9 of his would be starters. Even the newly appointed SA coach by now would have known majority of his starters even without camping. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 12:55pm On Jun 03, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: Those 9 are players Rohr can attest will standout in camp when he calls them. They are the best. Just like Ikeme or Mikel. They are the best and will stand out in camp. Iheanacho always does well in camp.
It is not a mystery that reports came of Awaziem performing well in camp and in the recent games, he pulled off good performances. If Awaziem continues with this momentum, he can become one of Rohr's trusted regulars.
They are not regulars by titles but consistent performances in camp. Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Ramos and Busquets were the best. That is why they were regulars. It is difficult to find people performing better than them in camp and games.
Just as it is hard taking a Nigerian striker to camp that will do better than Iheanacho or find a midfielder with more stamina than Etebo.
They must show these in camp to keep their places. I ask again what if Omeruo was in that France camp? I hope you know that performance is relative. |

TheGoodJoe: Why do you think Rohr wants the players in camp early, do you think the German tactician is playing on those training pitches? It is serious business to find the best players for the coming games. So you make team selection strictly from the training camp? I told you Months ago that Rohr knows at least 9 of the players that will start against SA. |

ChrisKels: Dolly would be up against any of these three ; Shehu, Tyrone and Omeruo. It all depends on who Rohr picks to man the RB position because Dolly operates from the left side.
Am actually relishing the battle in the midfield because in either of Agu or Onazi, Ndidi and of course Etebo, we've got combative midfielders, add to that, Iwobi's guile and technic. Omeruo is not a RB. |
