Danielnino00: Chief icon4s feeding us with sweet tales of the good old days of Nigeria football..
It makes me wish people still had passion for the national team today like before.. Most people these days don't bother about the super eagles until an actual tournament is taking place...
Yes o. Sometimes I could be hurrying home to go watch Nigeria U17 vs Angola U17. And some of my pals would look at me like ....... "Man are you serious"
This is something I must say about Arsenal fans. Most Strong followers of the Super Eagles I know are also Arsenal fans. Loyalty and Faithfulness run in our blood I guess
TheSuperNerd: Lol.... Ikpeba shaa. No VAR to also save the day. It is well. We have moved on but I know that just as history gave us a chance to correct the error of missing the SA 1996 Afcon by seeing that we triumphed at SA 2013 Afcon, I believe history will smile on us again regarding Cameroun. Knocking them out twice now in Afcon 2004 and Afcon 2019 and even disgracing them in the 2018 WCQs and doing so on each occasion while Cameroun wore the tag of African champs hasn't exactly satisfied me. I want to play them in a final and beat them well.
A fan's dream.
Nigeria vs Cameroon rivalry seems to have died down more recently as Cameroonian football has completely lost its glory days.
When Cameroon was Cameroon, it was always War each time we played.
Another game I will not forget was the Last Qualifying game for the 1990 WC. All we needed was a draw in Yaounde. The job was half done at half time it was still 0-0. The match was not televised and so we had to listen to commentries on Radio Nigeria. This radio commentries were coming out from virtually every apartment like..... At the end of every Cameroonian move and the commentator shouted "over the bar..." You could hear the relief from people. But unfortunately "It is a goal for Cameroon.......". And that was it. Silence everywhere.
Another terrible day for Nigerian football. Same Qualifiers that we lost Sam Okwaraji.
Danielnino00: Coaches na many African countries problem.. I've said it before,a lot of African teams are shortchanging themselves by appointing mediocore coaches to their national team.. Only Europe and South America can boost of having better footballers than Africa, but we still can't make it to the world cup semis...
We go for mediocre coaches because those are the kind of coaches our FAs can afford.
At best they keep recycling foreign coaches with experience on the continent.
komekn: Can you expand please, l am not aware of there ever being an election for the position of President of Super Eagles and or if the position even EXISTS.
I was in Warri when Amaju won the election for the Presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Chairman abeg when next you enter Warri just hint me.
TheSuperNerd: Lol... ChrisKels is more of an Ivorian and Senegalese protagonist. Yes he also admires Morocco. In case you don't know, Morocco is actually my second favourite African team. It has been so since I read tales and watched many clips of Mustapha Hadji while growing up as a kid. That's why I wanted them to win the title in 2004 especially after Tunisia's win over us in the Semis. But at same Afcon 2004 shaa, I was against them for just one game. The game we played and lost. Lol... That day vex me ehn. Hahaha but till today, I will always love Moroccan football. They are my next team on the African continent after Nigeria.
And see ehn, Danny, if the circumstances align and ensure that we do meet Cameroon in the final then they better be ready to pay for the "Ojoro" wins of 1988 and the robbery we experienced in 2000. 1984 was a clean win for Cameroun, that generation bad pass us that time. The elders, Kog45 and Icon4s can confirm this. Even Tbaba1234 go tell you say Na so. But 1988 ehn... See ehn...that match still dey vex me. Imagine being annoyed at a game you were not even around to watch. Dem never born me but I dey vex whenever I see clips of that game. The Ojoro was too much abeg.
So if we jam Cameroun ehn, they will pay! I know this Nigerian Generation will draw that payment off them.
Our 1984 team was a young squad, being assembled after the exit of most of the 1980 winning players. But by 1988, the team had gotten more matured and matched Cameroon strength for strength. But poor officiating rubbed us in that Final. I wept so bitterly that day. For the 2000 AFCON loss to Cameroon again, I didn't cry but I was so angry. "WHY CAMEROON AGAIN", WHY CAMEROON AGAIN?". I felt like meeting Ikpeba to paint his face with a thousand slaps
techmo: If anything I have traveled to Most GCC countries, and UK and I can tell you for free Ikoyi, VI, Banana island, Asokoro , Maitamah and Eko Atlantic all have as much infrastructure as you can get in top world class real estate
Either you are suffering from inferiority complex or just an Ipob, regardless you need to travel more
.
I initially liked your comment, but when you mentioned Ipob I took it back.
SocialJustice: Let the tribal bigots go. I do not believe they constitute the bulk of people here. Their rants block out brilliant people from discussing here. It is just too much. If Nigerians relate like this offline, we will be in a serious civil war.
I'm shocked to see so many accounts here, some 10 years old with less than 20 posts because they fear harassments. It can not continue like this. It will only take time before a politician takes note of what is happening here and shuts it down completely. Then it won't be an issue of losing some members but the end of nairaland. All it will take is one petition to the national assembly.
I stand with you on this.
Nairaland has helped fuel hatred amongst young people. I have been on Nairaland for 13yrs and was earlier very active in the politics section but over time, as the bigotry deteriorated to an unbearable level, I had to stop posting in that very section.
Seun really needs to do something about the ethnic rivalry on Nairaland, else we will wake up one day to see that the site has been banned/blocked.
TheSuperNerd: You mean Million Koma. From the 2017 NPFL U-15s promises tournament where he was Top scorer.
Honestly, right now I cannot seem to place my hands on concrete info about his current whereabouts but I will ask and get back to you on this.
You know you ask a very important question b'cos I remember Olakunle Olusegun was also a part of the NPFL U-15s promises in 2017 too for ABS of Ilorin. Koma repped Rangers of Enugu. While Olakunle was MVP, Koma was top scorer with 11 goals. Now Olakunle is in Denmark after playing in the U-17s but nothing on Koma. I will definitely make enquiries soonest.
But again, maybe Tbaba1234 can give us something if he does know. For me, I will make some enquiries. It's well.
That tournament was actually held in 2016. Million Koma won the Golden ball (MVP) award and not Olusegun ("Oluseguni" according to SS commentators ) while Chidera Ojukwu was the highest goals scorer.
But I think there were questions about Koma's nationality then and his eligibility to play for Nigeria at youth levels.
feelme2020: Olakunle Olusegun (u-17 2019 set) just scored three goals for fremad (his new club) today. The boy is on fire. I think this new set of u-17 boys will be the most successful at a senior level. I believe the days where players from our youth teams don't succeed in Europe are gone. They are now learning how to navigate the waters of European football
safarigirl: Please, let us remember not to hype this boy. You know, it is just a warmup game, preseason game against a fourth division side at that, and it does not reflect what will happen during the season.
I don't like it when people overhype Nigerian players that cannot even thrive in championship teams, just because of how much, that they bought him? chinkili money
Please, lezz be realistic on this thread, and not allow the emotive bias that this reporter clearly employed, in writing this article, to deceive us into thinking that Osimhen is on the same level as great English strikers like Dominic Solanke. For all we know, they must have even bribed him to hype Osimhen
SuperNerd please, find us more truthful articles, we all know Osimhen is not as good as this reporter claims.
sheyishemba: I Agee with your assertion about tijani tijani is a talented young lad but I vehemently disagree with that on nwakali Nwakali is not part of SE setup lemme compare his situation to that of musa in Leicester city ....musa is an integral part of the team during his woes at Leicester but Rohr didnt for once dropped him and he really played an important role in his move to CSKA Moscow taking a cue too from Kalu when he was at Genk rohr played a major role in his move to Bordeaux also ihenacho during his woes at Leicester have heard news about instance where Rohr called Claude about Nacho performance these are integral players in the team with due respect sir rohr has traveled to Latvia,Norway to monitor alot of players and recommended these players to Bordeaux.when nwakali was in MAASTRICHT Rohr and his assistant went to Holland to meet ebuehi, ekong, ehzibue, Nwakali d great wasn't even mention.... I understand many of ya here are fans of nwakali and it normal for Rohr to scout all naija playing very well in Europe, as it stands RN nwakali still belongs to the set of Luke Amos ,Samuel osayi and the rest if these dudes too perform extra ordinarily well they will be invited too.
When I said "National Team setup", I was referring to the U17, U20 & U23.
That comment from Rohr about K. Nwakali says a lot about his Senior National team prospects, if he can really get his game going.
I am not a Fan of K. Nwakali, I am just telling you things the way they are.
IDENNAA: Probably because you don't know how to manage your resources.
With the quality of players we have, no coach in this world, given the same period as Rohr, could have built that team such that it can rub ranks with the top 4 teams in the world.
Meliforme: Above average players in the current Super Eagles: Wilfred Ndidi. Leon Balogun. Victor Osimhen. Henry Onyekuru. Samuel Chukwueze. Alex lwobi. Moses Simon.
Chidera Ejuke should be in the list, but he is to get an invitation first, and then feature, to get a deserved reckoning.
The listing above was drafted based on the impact the listed can exert when featured for at least 30 minutes.
For me, I'll replace Leon Balogun with William Troost-Ekong. And I will take out Henry Onyekuru and Moses Simon and bring in Joe Aribo and Samuel Kalu.
