safarigirl:
like I said, pundits the world over tipped Mexico to beat Mali. The same pundits who are tipping Brazil to beat Nigeria based on pedigree.

This is not based on U17 showing, but based on past performances in the U20 tournament, which you would know, Mali does not have a strong pedigree compared to Mexico. If pundits were judging based on the U17, then Nigeria should have been favourites to win Brazil and not the other way around.

I hope you now understand where the soccer pundits base their judgment. Once again, Mali who last won an U20 game over a decade ago, pulled off an upset on Mexico, who have won the cup multiple times.

Good morning
Firstly, Mexico has never won the U20 world cup.
Secondly, forget abt all those permutations and combinations done by all those gamblers, i can still categorically tell u that Mali beating Mexico is nt much of an upset. Teams from West Africa have always been a force to be reconed with at age grade levels. After u mention S. American teams like Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and then u mention European teams like Portugal, Spain and France the next set of countries with pedigree are Nigeria, Ghana and Mali. Teams from West Africa have a better pedigree than teams from N. America. Check the achievements of Nigeria, Ghana and Mali in this competition over d yrs put together as against the likes of Mexico, USA and Canada/Costa Rica etc

Teams from West Africa are always known to pull results at youth level.

Thirdly, y i was making comparison between U17 performance with U20s is that a good lot of peeps here are rating teams based on their performances at the last U17. Check d records, no team has won the U17 & den U20 2yrs later. I hope Nigeria can break that record.

it would interest you to know that I watched Mikel's set in '05 and watched Nigeria '09...haven't watched an U20 since then.

You should check out the internet, no betting site factored in a Mali win, except those in Mali probably. Those are the pundits I meant. Football is beyond just watching, it's some people's careers- and I don't mean the players
Well u should know well enough that an U17 success does nt authomatucally translate to U20 success. Fact that Mexico finished second at U17 doesnt mean they will perform well at U20. Infact fact that Nigeria won the U17 doesnt mean they are favourites to win the U20.History has repeated itself severally that no country has won U17 and 2yrs later won d U20.
This same Mexico won the U17 in 2011 and could nt go beyond 2nd round @ 2013 U20.
Our Nigeria won U17 in 1985, won AYC 1987 & crashed out at grp stage at U20 in 1987 even losing to Brazil in the first game.
Nigeria won U17 in 1993 & finished 3rd at AYC in 1995.
Nigeria won U17 in 2007 & finished 3rd @ AYC and second rnd exit in 2009.

The Brazil we are playing didnt even qualify for the last U17 & that doesnt mean they cannot produce a quality squad for the U20.

I hope we are nt in for a repeat of 1987.

the pundits would say otherwise in this particular game. Somehow, Mexico never gets lucky with African teams......first Nigeria at U17 and now Mali

Mali beating Mexico is no upset my dear. If u have been following youth competitions well enough u will know that overall Mali is the 3rd best team in África after Nigeria and Ghana.Mali has a good pedigree especially at U20s.

This U20 World Cup is a total disaster. I have never missed matches like these since I sarted following the competition in Chile 1987.I am nt even sure of watching Nigeria's game.
I had banked on Dstv only to find out that it is only startimes that is showing it.

So u guys mean even my local NTA Benin will nt show Nigeria's game?

Based on the circumstances surrounding it, The match should only qualify for most disgraceful and embarrassing in Nigeria history! !

All we just needed to do was win them and qualify for AFCON, instead they were beating us in our very own backyard! Chaiii!
That's also what makes it memorable.
Politics › Re: Distinction Between Niger Delta, South South And "Niger Delta" by Icon4s(m): 1:37pm On May 30, 2015
Geologically speaking: The Niger Delta Basin is underlying the following states: Abia,Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers.Though what we have in Cross River can also be called the Calabar flank which is a sub-basin.
These are states that we have the Akata, Agbada and Benin formation which is the atratigraphy of the Niger Delta.
The Delta might seem to be jst between Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta today but the early delta started developing several kilometres northwards of d present day Delta( talking abt geological Delta nt Delta state o)

The PRESIDENT's first action was to deploy the military command centre to Borno state to curb the insurgency crippling our country, this was in his inauguration day... Something that the ex-president NEVER did in his 6 years in office. Haters will be put to shame by this administration. "i belong to everybody and i belong to nobody"
But has d command centre moved? No. On monday mark my words there will counter opinions from the ranks and files on that issue. Besides it is undemocratic.

Politics › Re: ELECTRICITY: Nigeria's Electricty Is Being Sabortaged by Icon4s(m):
Jorussia:
I don't know where you reside, for you to conclude that there is now constant light in all the states of the federation. In my area, throughout yesterday,we had just about 15mins of power supply.
The last time we saw light here in Benin was 3pm on 28th May.

Any President or Minister that promises Nigerians constant power in 1year does not understand thé problems facing the Power sector.

The whole system of power generation, Transmission and destribution is disfunctional and archaique.
When other countries are already generating power from nuclear energy we are still banking on Kainji dam.
Our Power transmission lines were those built in the 1970s. The quality of thé cables have so deteriorated that the power losses experienced during transmission is so massive. For those that dnt understand what a transmission line is: u see those high tension cables? They are the transmission lines.

What about thé distribution system? Those electric poles that with little wind and rainfall everything collapses? Each time there is heavy rainfall there is always cut in power supply. Some of our transformers have been in use since in the 1970s and 80s. The fuse go bad every now and then due to overload.Have u ever asked y is it houses far from transformers usually experience low current? Answer, losses in the distribution system as well, after experiencing losses in the transmission system. Losses can be as high 25% of total power generated! Plus your transmission system has a maximum capacity it can carry. So if power generation improves drastically and d transmission lines remain same that will amount to excess energy being generated while d populace will nt feel the impact cos the current transmission lines dnt have enough capacity to transmit all the energy generated.

Lets face the reality. Steady power supply is nt in sight for now. It will take us atleast 10yrs of massive investment in electricity infrastructures before we can experience something close to steady power supply.

I wunt pik one, rada i wil rank them in an order of importance, effect that d cumbak had on d tournaments.
1) Atlanta 96
this cumbak was a gr8 one as it was against a star studded rival in 4m of brazil who had playas wu were in dia prime, Ronaldo, rivaldo. Also anoda cumbak victory in d final against a strong Argentinian team was achievd and also delivad d Gold medal
2) Darman Miracle
D fact dat it was a cumbk 4m 4goals down in a short time and an 8goal thriller makes dx cumbk d 2nd best in my list.
Tho i didnt watch d match nor d tournament, my dad always speak abt ow good d team was despite d loss in d final.
3) CHAN
D team's effort was rubbishd by poor goal keepin by Agbim, most of d goals were his fault, we shdnt av conceded dat much. also playn against morocco xnt dat easy.
4) 2009 U17
D team startd d match poorly n fans had lost hope buh D match turnd n got more interestn in d closin stages with both teams hittn eachodas woodwork within a minute.
5) South Africa
we culd v won d match
I like ur list. If in order of hierachy i will put the CHAN game as number 3 and the 2009 U17 game as number 4. Reasons: we won the Chan game while we drew d Eaglets game secondly the Chan game was a q/final match while d Eaglets game qas a group opener.
