@ poster .You are more than right about the issue of passion. That is the first thing in farming business. I have a fish farm that I started barely a year ago. I have harvested twice now. The first set I made losses due to inexperience. However with the second set I just managed to break even, slightly above the operating cost. I am planning on massive construction of ponds and expansion this year 'cos I've found out that the larger the farm, the higher the profit margin because some costs are fixed. Eg staff salaries, Cost of transporting oneselve to the farm, cost of servicing operations vehicle(I have one). An increase in production when some factors of production have fixed costs reduces cost per unit of product and this enhances profit. So optimal production (not mass production) is the way out here. 'cos u have to also put ur market into perspective. I also smoke the fish that don't attain good marketable size.eg 300-700g. |
If this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth, then Enyeama deserves to be left out. ![]() |
^^ you can't be more right. @Odunnu, those pple u think that had 2:2 (1st degree) were probably employed as GTs in or b4 2005, were employed as experienced hires, are contract staff or were contract staff that got converted to permanent staff. Right from the 2006 recruitment the requirement has been a 1st class or 2nd class Upper for GTs and Upper Credit for Operators and Technicians. @poster try and find out the position or category your family friend is helping you with. You can at best enter as a contract staff and if you are lucky can be converted after a few years. NO COURSE IS USELESS IN THIS OUR NIGERIA. |

What's New for 2012 The 2012 Toyota Camry is fully redesigned. Introduction Can the most popular family sedan in America afford to take a risk? Not likely. The 2012 Toyota Camry doesn't aim to find out, either. Sure, the seventh generation of Toyota's bread-and-butter sedan shows a sharper look, including a more aggressive front grille and side profile. Tougher, more angular lines ring the exterior. There's even lip service paid to sporty handling, an effort to woo buyers who've already written off Toyota as the New Old Buick. No, the new Camry isn't too different from the last one. And that's not a bad thing. For one thing, the 2012 Toyota Camry offers improved versions of last year's engines: a respectably powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Both engines also join a six-speed automatic transmission to deliver better fuel economy. The four-cylinder returns an EPA-estimated 35 highway mpg, while the V6 -- with nearly 100 more horses -- achieves 30 mpg on the highway. There's also a Camry Hybrid, covered in a separate review. Suspension improvements have been made to enliven the Camry's handling dynamics. There are even paddle shifters on the SE model, offering manual control of the automatic transmission and rev-matched downshifts. That's not to say the 2012 Camry is really sporty, but it does infuse slightly more enthusiasm into a rock-solid legacy of cushy, comfortable ride quality. We expect pricing to start at around $20,900 for the base model and about $26,500 for a cushy XLE. The hybrid, meanwhile, will be available in both LE and XLE trims. A Toyota official has said that the LE Hybrid will ring in for less than the current model, so expect a price slightly shy of $28,000. Given that the midsize sedan segment has changed considerably, with cars like the Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata garnering some of our top recommendations, we'll be watching the Camry with great interest. Check back in the coming months for complete pricing and performance testing on the 2012 Toyota Camry. Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The 2012 Toyota Camry will be offered in L, LE, SE and XLE trim levels. The L features 16-inch steel wheels, power-folding mirrors, air-conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth and a six-speaker CD sound system with auxiliary input and USB jacks. The Camry LE adds auto headlamps, remote keyless entry, steering-wheel-mounted audio and Bluetooth controls and the six-speaker Display Audio system featuring a 6.1-inch touchscreen. The SE includes a sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, heated exterior mirrors, unique interior and exterior styling treatment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, sport seats and the Display Audio system. SE V6 models get the upgraded Display Audio system that adds navigation, HD radio, satellite radio, voice recognition and Entune smartphone and Web integration. The luxurious XLE reverts to the LE's softer suspension settings, and adds heated exterior mirrors, foglamps, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat, a four-way power passenger seat and the Display Audio system with navigation and Entune. XLE V6 models get a rearview camera, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery and heated driver and front passenger seats. A premium 10-speaker JBL audio system integrated with a 7-inch touchscreen hard-drive-based navigation system is also optional on XLE V6 models. Powertrains and Performance The 2012 Toyota Camry is offered with a choice of two engines. Base Camrys are powered by a respectably powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 178 hp and 170 pound-feet of torque. Upgrading gets you a silky smooth 3.5-liter V6 generating 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Both engines drive the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Toyota says the four-cylinder will return an estimated 35 highway mpg, while the V6 -- with nearly 100 more hp -- will achieve 30 mpg on the highway. Safety The 2012 Toyota Camry comes with a battery of standard safety features, including antilock brakes with brake assist, stability control, front- and rear-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and knee airbags for both driver and passenger, the latter new for 2012. A blind-spot monitoring system is also available. Interior Design and Special Features Inside, the Camry's cabin feels slightly roomier. Thinner front pillars increase visibility and narrower door panels open up elbow room. Door panel controls also move higher, allowing knees to breathe better. Among other amenities, top Camry trim levels get an eight-way power driver seat, while all Camry models now offer a 60/40-split fold-down rear seat. But the most notable improvement has been in interior materials. The previous wave of hard plastic is replaced with complementary dash textures, handsome trim and subtle, decorative stitching. The Camry's new upgraded audio system also includes Entune, a suite of smartphone-connected services that include features like the Bing search engine, Pandora streaming radio, real-time traffic, sports and stock information, and the ability to reserve movie tickets or a table at a restaurant on the go (Entune is optional with the Display Audio package). Driving Impressions We've only had the opportunity to briefly drive the new 2012 Toyota Camry. In terms of power, both engines are pretty similar to last year's model. The Camry's new electric steering (once limited to the hybrid) feels pretty decent in the V6 versions. But four-cylinder versions, which use electric steering from a different supplier, feel vague and somewhat lifeless. On the bright side, this new Camry feels more planted to the road and less disturbed by bumps, the result of refined rear suspension tuning. The SE in particular, with its larger tires and sport-tuned suspension, feels more athletic than before.

In as much as I am not much of a Camry fan, i'll stll say that the 96 Camry is more roughed, better on Nigerian roads and has a higher 2nd hand value. The Camry is also cheaper to maintain and more fuel economical. And I am sure u know that the 97Accord is slightly more expensive. However if u talk of facial beauty and exterior styling, give it to the 97 accord. The 97 accord also drives more smoothly and also has a more luxurious feel when inside. Choice is urs. |

The Managing Director/Chief Executive, First Inland Bank Plc, Mr. Okey Nwosu has restated the bank’s resolve to access the capital market for fresh funds in order to take its pride of place in the industry. Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, the First Inland boss said the Nigerian banking industry had stabilised to a level where operators are expected to refocus their operations. The bank, according to him, is raising N100bn in form of debt and equity, a development, he said, will make First Inland Bank competitive in the face of the emerging challenges in the international banking climate. Explaining the choice of debt and equity, Nwosu said that debt, as a choice of raising funds, give investors the opportunity of making a quick returns. He said that time had come for banks to consider the interest of foreign investors who are daily streaming to Nigeria. “According to him, most of the foreign investors that came to Nigeria did so with debt option. The debt option is targeted at foreign investors as convertible debenture,” he stated. The bank boss said that in spite of the rising fortunes of the Nigerian Banks, there are still some opportunities which were yet to be tapped by the banks. He said that plans are afoot to take First Inland bank to other countries in the sub-sahara Africa. He disclosed that First Inland Bank has already signed a contract with a South African firm on the rebranding of the bank. Nwosu stated that although the number of banks branches have risen considerably in the recent time, a large number of Nigerians still do not have access to bank branches especially, in the rural areas. - Punch,11th October '07. Nigerian Stock Exchange's council has given its nod to the bid by the Dangote Group to list the shares of another company, Dangote Flour Plc on the official list. Post listing, the company's shares will become tradable on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and investors would be able to make money from it. Director-General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Professor Ndi Okereke-Onyiueke, who disclosed this yesterday said the group, will soon float its cement company, while urging other wealthy Nigerians to emulate the moves by Alhaji Aliko Dangote to make Nigerians wealthier by floating his companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. She said: "The Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday (Monday), approved the application of Dangote Flour for listing and the offer will come to market soon. After Dangote Flour, the cement company will also come. I like to see Nigerians like Alhaji Dangote who helps to pull people up." Earlier, at the presentation of the facts behind the figures of Dangote Sugar Refinery yesterday, Alhaji Aliko Dangote told stockbrokers that the company would pay a total dividend of N20 billion or more this year, considering the N8 billion already paid in the first and second quarters. Preparatory to the payment, he urged stockbrokers to advise their clients accordingly, to open bank accounts into which such dividends would be paid, to facilitate easy payment. His words: "We plan to pay N20 billion dividend at the end of the year, we have paid N4 billion and will pay another N4 billion on Monday. He added that the company would soon commence operations in Ghana and Angola. "We plan to start operations in Ghana next year, and we will ship over 250 containers by September 15, 2008. We will also commence operations in Angola, a country which consumed more sugar than Nigeria, Angola by sea is half a day to Europe, so we are seizing the opportunity to establish our refinery there which would be ready next year." Speaking at the meeting, the company's Managing Director, Mr. Abdulahi Sule said the company will make a profit of over N20 billion this year, and it plans to commence the production of brown and liquid sugar soon. He added that the company plans to produce 1.1 million metric towers of sugar by first quarter of 2008 while plans are underway to expand to other West African countries. -GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER, Wednesday, 29th August, 2007. |
Shareholders of Sterling Bank Plc have approved the bank’s plan to raise additional funds of up to N100bn or its United States dollar equivalent. The shareholders also approved an increase in the authorised share capital of the bank by up to N20bn by the creation of 20billion ordinary shares of 50kobo per share. They equally empowered the directors of the bank to take necessary steps including initiating and negotiating mergers/or acquisitions or any form of other business combination with any company whether foreign or local. Besides, the shareholders gave the directors the authority to reconstruct the bank’s shares. All the approvals were given at the 45th Annual General Meeting of the bank held in Lagos on Tuesday. Although some shareholders initially kicked against the share reconstruction considering the fact the bank had embarked on a similar exercise last year, the Group Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Babatunde Dabiri, gave the rationale for the proposed reconstruction. According to him, the reconstruction is as a result of the post-merger share adjustments in accordance with approved scheme of merger of the legacy banks. He explained that it was sanctioned by the court that should there be discrepancies in the claims made by any of the legacy banks after the merger, the shares should be adjusted. He added that the reconstruction will also make the bank to compete favourably and give value to investors. He assured the shareholders that the future was bright as the half year results have indicated, saying the bank started on a clean note having cleaned up its books. Dabiri explained that the funds to be raised would be used to enhance its operations and create more value for shareholders. Although, Sterling Bank has a relationship with State Bank of India, he said a major business alliance with a leading foreign bank would be unveiled very soon. In his report, the chairman of the bank, Alhaji Suleiman Baffa, said that despite the huge cost of the consolidation exercise, the group ended the nine months in September 30, 2007 with a profit after tax of N1.05bn compared with a loss of N5.6bn at the beginning of the financial year. Baffa said, “Similarly, total balance sheet and contingent increased significantly by 365 per cent from N31.33bn in December 2005 to N145.74bn at the end of September 2006. “However, we could not recommend a dividend payment for the nine-month period due to fact that earnings from the previous operations were used to clean up our books and position the bank with an efficient balance sheet that would guarantee a healthy return to shareholders in the coming years,” he said. -PUNCH NEWSPAPER wednesday, 29th August, 2007. |
The management of Access Bank Plc has secured the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission to extend its ongoing public offer by two weeks. The offer extension came on the heels of an intense lobby by some shareholders associations for more period of grace on the public offer. The bank said in a statement on Tuesday that its banking halls nationwide have been bursting at theirs seams since Friday as investors made last minute efforts to subscribe to the offer. “Some shareholders have attributed their late rush to the fact that they were unable to secure application forms as the outlets in their locations complained of logistical problems,” the statement said. The bank said that with this extension, investors, who thought they had lost out in the opportunity to benefit from this wealth creating offer now have the opportunity to be part of the offer during the two-week extension window. The extension, therefore, offers an opportunity for more Nigerians to be part of what is touted to become one of the most successful public offering. The unprecedented interest generated in the public offer is said to have been largely due to road shows embarked upon by the bank to all the states of Nigeria. The bank said it adopted this as a strategy to educate, enlighten and mobilise Nigerians behind this opportunity to benefit from the wealth creating process that the public offer represents for a large number of Nigerians residing in remote locations and centres. -PUNCH NEWSPAPER wednesday, 29th August |
